We had a lovely experience dining at Ilima Terrace while staying at the Grand Hyatt for three nights. While hotel buffets are usually pretty basic, Ilima Terrace goes above and beyond! The first thing I'll mention is the variety. There were approximately 10 hot food items on their main hot food table with options ranging from kalua pork hash, to frittata, to mango mahi. Plus they switched out all options each day to make sure the buffet wasn't repetitive. The quality of these items was generally great. But they had much more beyond the main hot food table. The fresh juice shots were always a highlight for us. Also the pancakes/french toast bar, which always had a good local twist like taro or ube mixed in. And make sure to dig into the fresh fruit spread. They have good sweet baked goods as well, but I think the bread/bagel cabinet is the only miss at this buffet. The bread options just weren't good quality. I still give 5 stars, because even without freshly baked breads, we still had a plethora excellent options. If you are staying at Grand Hyatt Kauai, this buffet is a great option. Especially if you want to fill up on brunch and not go out to eat again until dinner. read more

The breakfast buffet at the Grand Hyatt blew my husband and I away during our stay. Luckily for us (credit card perks), it was free before 11 am. Regardless, the fresh, healthy and tasty variety and gorgeous views were so satisfying and invigorating. They change up their options every day so you don't get bored either. I really appreciated their fresh juice options too! I realized that's hard to beat when you've got the more soda-like, sugary juice options around the islands. Like the rest of the resort, service here is superb and warm. It really feels special and I hope to visit again one day. read more

The view and the vibe are amazing. The swan was very entertaining. We named him Walley. The hostesses are so friendly and kind. They had a great attitude every morning and they were very accommodating. The food is average like it is on the whole island. The chef Edgar and Rolly were both so nice. We had lunch at Ilima Terrace during our stay at Grand Hyatt. The staff was very friendly and gave us an amazing table with a view. We had the the Ahi Poke Bowl and Mirin-miso Glazed Mahi. Both were delicious but my favorite was the poke bowl. It was server with a very unique and delicious edamame mousse which gave the poke bowl a wonderful flavor. Easter brunch at Ilima Terrace was a huge disappointment. I've been here before for their regular breakfast buffet and loved it, so I expected the Easter brunch to be even better especially at $149 per person. It wasn't. We had a 1pm reservation and there were basically no breakfast options left, which defeats the whole point of "brunch." No one explained anything either, so we were just left figuring it out ourselves. The whole setup felt poorly thought out:    *   Crab legs... no garlic butter    *   Sushi... no soy sauce or wasabi    *   Juice station... no glasses And good luck finding your server, we barely saw ours the entire time. Food was mid at best. Prime rib was fatty, breads were dry, desserts forgettable. Nothing about it felt worth $149. Honestly felt like I paid for things I didn't even come for. Only saving grace was the omelette station and the kids food. To top it off, service was lacking. Near the end, we hadn't seen our server in a while and didn't even know how to pay. I had entered payment info when booking, so we weren't sure if it had already been charged. When I asked the host, she said the server should have brought the check. We went back to the table and finally found him looking panicked, like he thought we were about to dine and dash. Ironically, this was the most we saw of him the entire time. I still tipped 18% out of habit... definitely shouldn't have. I had a great experience here before, but this one completely changed my opinion. I won't be back. read more

My favorite is the papaya with chia pudding (the first option on the menu), but instead of having a side of oatmeal brûlée, I feel like it should have a protein as a side. Went for Thanksgiving brunch. The waiter was quick, attentive, and pleasant. However, the hostesses were not. My husband asked them how to say "hello" in Filipino. The heavy set hostess at the computer said "Amoy" and the other two hostesses laughed. I found out that "Amoy" means it "smells". Then the same large hostess told us we were late. The other hostesses laughed again. Interestingly enough, it was 12 noon. Our reservation was for 12:30. Not sure why friendliness towards the hostesses ended in this manner. But it has been consistent the last few years. They can't possibly think the customers paying high prices are stupid and easy targets. These 3 hostesses were dealing with 2 lawyers, one of whom is a retired judge, who didn't appreciate their unprofessional, low rent antics! read more

Breakfast buffet was so awesome. Mainly for the experience- the view, the all you can eat, the variety of options, the service. Definitely a hefty price tag (90+ for 2), but we're on our honeymoon so we said sure! Probably wouldn't go here on the regular. The highlights were the salmon loch bagel, kalua pig hash, small shots of kombucha/juice, lemon poppy seed pancakes, endless eggs Benedict, lots of fresh fruit (mango specifically), etc... Best breakfast on the South Shore. Go for the buffet. It shifts expectations of the standard Hyatt breakfast. We enjoyed collection of morning "shots" - watermelon + chili + ginger / cantaloupe + orange + ginger/ green apple + kale + celery / Kauai kombucha. To me, green one with kale was the best taste! Weligton pie is mind - numbing, so good and melting in your mouth. Pancakes are fluffy and "airy". Eggs, omelettes, fruit -- very good selection and cooking style. Only the selection of cheese could be better, in my view. Prices are very reasonable. If you go to nearby places, you would spend roughly the same amount of money, but for less quality food. No to mention fascinating views, birds chirping, great customer audience and helpful team. read more

Food here was actually better than what I've had elsewhere on the island, and it comes with a view! 4.5 rounded up to 5 stars. We ordered a poblano quesadilla ($18), island cobb salad ($23), and a side of fries ($6). As a Hyatt discoverist member, we also got a 20% discount for lunch. The poblano quesadilla doesn't come with cheese- odd for the name. But our server mentioned this right off the bat and asked if we wanted to add it on. We didn't hesitate because what even is a quesadilla without cheese?! He didn't mention if it would cost extra, so we were pleasantly surprised to see it wasn't an addition fee when we got the bill. The quesadilla on its own is average and definitely needs the salsa it came with. The cobb salad was light and the papaya dressing was delicious. I requested no bacon and chicken on the side, and my server obliged without an issue. Waffle fries were exactly as I expected. Is was craving fries, and this hit the spot. read more

The atmosphere here is unbelievable! The view will take your breath away. The breakfast buffet has everything you could want and then some. I'm usually not big into buffets but the quality of the food and ample options was amazing. They even had a make your own inlet station with a very friendly chef. Satcha made our whole experience even better. She is so warm and friendly and goes above and beyond to make sure my husband and I are having the best honeymoon! Breakfast a la carte here is amazing! Lobster Benedict, Malakai smoothie, and kids breakfast options are all of high quality. The ambiance is gorgeous with the spectacular ocean view, swans, and birds. The buffet is really grand but not at the same level as it was for when I last enjoyed it 16 years ago. The fresh omelette station was nice and the pastries, latte, fresh pineapple. French toast and scrambled eggs were all good. Being a pescatarian, unfortunately certain foods were off limits as they were prepared with pork or beef so would have been nice to have vegetarian options for the noodles and dumplings. read more

We came here for brunch, but keep in mind they recently changed their chef, so the lunch menu is quite different from what's shown on Yelp or Google. Be sure to check their website for the latest menu. Nevertheless, we were impressed with the restaurant's pleasant ambiance, situated next to a serene pond with two elegant white swans and a bunch of fishes. The staff was welcoming, and the food, while different, was quite enjoyable. We opted for the Ahi Poke bowl and the Fish and Shrimp salad, both of which were well-portioned and tasty. Additionally, it's conveniently located within the Grand Hyatt, which is where we're staying. We had stayed at the Hyatt pre Covid and I was dreaming about going back for the buffet at Ilima Terrace and was greatly disappointed. When we got there half the food items were gone and it would take a good 10 minutes to get anything replaced. The breads were stale the fruits were not ripe and the service was not up to par. It's been a while since I've been here. During the few days that we were here for breakfast I noticed that they would cycle several of the food options while keeping some of the staple items. Definitely come here around 6-6:30 if you wish to get one of the good tables and get a good view during the sunrise that happens around 7:15am. One of the things I have to say though is how welcoming and friendly the staff were to the point that they even remembered my name the second day that we came here. We meant to do a quick takeout but there were so many items on the menu that looked delicious! We especially enjoyed the mochiko chicken appetizers. We subbed waffle fries for onion rings and it was so yummy with kewpie mayo and some sweet chili sauce, it was a perfect flavor combo. I first ordered the hummus, veggie, and balsamic flatbread, which was a rather refreshing dish for traditional resort food. Aloha, when we arrived at the Grand Hyatt the aloha spirit hugged us. Note: we stayed at a hotel nearby but we were excited to try their Easter brunch with our friends and family. I wish I could give a positive review as I desperately wanted to enjoy my meal. Alas, we were very disappointed in the food. The service was outstanding as was the ambiance. This is why I am giving this experience three stars. We loved the staff's positive energy and hospitable spirit. However, this Easter Brunch was epically disappointing. The lamb and beef were both rare and not palatable. The food looked like it had sat around all day. The ahi tuna was tasty and so were the desserts. But for a hundred dollars a person, I expected more. If I was only reviewing the food, it would be a one star. I came here to get my Portuguese sausage, rice, and eggs fix. They have an incredible buffet that everyone seemed to love but all I wanted was a plate of food that I grew up eating. It did not disappoint!!! I got Portuguese sausage with roasted potatoes, over easy eggs, side of rice, and an extra side of Portuguese sausage . It was super pricey, and cost me 40$ not including tip. The flavor was on point and the rice was cooked really well. I've never had potatoes with my Portuguese sausage plate before but I didn't mind it. I don't regret the price because it was really good and brought me back to when I was a kid. The only place to have breakfast along with a 1,000 other guests. Super dirty. Servers are friendly but lazy. Take forever to clean tables. Given it is a buffet you need your table to have space. Everyday I have removed my own dishes because servers don't come around at all. Then they are and a massive tip. For buffet and never being around, what exactly am I tipping for ? Please consider clean spaces and actual service (ie checking in on your guests and taking dirty dishes away). This is basic ! read more
