We came here on our first day of vacation after spending some time on Shipwreck Beach. We needed someplace nearby that we could get into quickly before our children (ages 1 & 3) had a meltdown from hunger. We were able to get seated quickly and had a table right next to the koi pond where our kids could watch the fish and swans while we waited for our food. It was excellent entertainment and a beautiful environment. Our server Tim was excellent. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and was able to make substitutions based on food allergies that both myself and my mom have. We both got the Cobb salad and substituted the chicken for fish and it was delicious and gluten free too! My son kept saying how yummy the food was even though all he ate was fries and a few bites of pizza. Their fries are excellent though. A crispy waffle cut fry with yummy seasoning. My husband got the ahi tuna burger and really enjoyed it. Overall, I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for a beautiful setting, great service and really tasty food. read more

The management of Hyatt should be ashamed of this place! Chairs were stained, smelly and falling apart. Tables and carpets were with stains too! We dine here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. It wasn't busy when we arrived at 8am but the restaurant was full with people waiting by 9am. The restaurant is located in the Grand Hyatt. We choose the breakfast buffet because we wanted a variety. However, the actual breakfast menu looked good too. Breakfast Buffet cost $39 for adults and $15 for children. They had rice, Portuguese sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, potatoes, corn beef hash, miso soup, pastries, fresh fruit, waffles and French toast with nuts and chocolate to top it off, steel cut oatmeal and the best part, smoked salmon. I made my own lox bagel sandwich and it was delicious. There were many workers making sure the food was well stocked and the buffet area was cleaned. The staff was friendly and refilled our water and coffee often. Overall, I would be back for breakfast. read more

Review is for lunch: This is the main breakfast buffet at the Grand Hyatt Kauai, located next to the check-in. They also offer a sit-down casual lunch. Perfect timing since we were hungry after a long flight. The menu is pretty diverse and they have some pretty interesting combinations. Prices are on the high side, though portion are generous and flavors are on point. The Chicken Katsu was excellent! Crispy, thin-layered breading with a slight kick. Chicken meat cooked perfectly. The kimchi added some nice tartness to balance the meal (5 stars) Wife got the Pesto Penne Shrimp pasta with mushrooms, tomatoes, and prosciutto. That's a lot of ingredients, but it works! Shrimp were large and were seasoned well. Pasta cooked al dente. (5 stars). We skipped dessert but shared a mango smoothie. It was a bit on the sweeter side with the whipped cream topping and pricey at a whopping $10. Not bad (4 stars). Will come back and review for the breakfast buffet. Ilima Terrace is on the lower floor of the Grand Hyatt Kauai, facing the resort grounds and the ocean. I came down one morning for a sunrise meal, and I was not disappointed. Opting to order à la carte over the $45 buffet, I had coffee (bottomless), orange juice, and the 2 egg breakfast over medium with an extra side of fruit. I was pleased to get exactly what I wanted without feeling obligated to overeat at the buffet, and my window at the table gave me front row seating to view the swans in the pond immediately outside and the sun rising over the exquisite grounds of the hotel. My server was warm, friendly, and attentive, and being a (15-year-) local gave me some great sightseeing tips. To cap the experience off, we also saw a whale blow in the distance. I would recommend Ilima Terrace for a romantic brunch or other special occasion. read more

Ate here every morning during our stay at the hyatt and gotta say was not as good as hyatts other Buffett breakfast. We had the breakfast package included in our stay however if we didnt i dont think the $40 a head is worth it. On the most positive note the omelette bar was great. Tons of selections and option's. The line does get long though so expect to wait, even with their 6 cooking pans. For the rest of the buffett it wasnt terrible but the options really didnt change much, so if you came here for more then 3 days you get a little board. Options wise they always had eggs Benedict(not bad), some type of hash(cornbeef/sweetpot the best), a breakfast potato, asian selection(steamed porkbun was great), scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, pastry station, bagels, pancakes/french toast/or waffles, and then assorted condiments and add ons. Now it sounds like alot but by day 3 you get a little board. The other hyatts we have stayed at for weeks at a time have definitely rotated options better. Staff was friendly and helpful. Always gave you options of to go coffee when you were leaving. Overall if its included go for it, decent amount of options and allows you to eat kinda healthy if you wish. If its not included id say one time is good enough. Had lunch here once and it was just ok, over priced and not as good as some local spots. Enjoy and happy vacation! read more

The service is absolutely five stars. The food just isn't really good. The buffet is fine but nothing stood out as really good. My sister really liked her smoked salmon bagel. My mom liked her tofu dish that came with rice. I wanted a fruit bowl and our server was really nice and allowed me to utilize the fruit at the buffet. None of the fruit was very good though. There was underripe melon and ok pineapple. There was no banana, mango, or anything else that would have come with the bowl. The vanilla latte was good, but I was just so disappointed with the food. read more

This was the only on-site restaurant we tried during our stay at the Grand Hyatt due to the discount for Globalists. The view is amazing as you see the Koi pond along with the ocean view. We shared the appetizer of the Ahi roll which was a substantial amount of ahi and was divided into 4 rolls and got the soba noodle entrees. I added the fresh catch of the day to my soba but that was a mistake as the Mahi wasn't grilled as much as I would have liked and could not tell if they didn't cook it all the way on purpose. There weren't many breakfast options to choose from on the resort. I liked Ilima Terrace because it had a satisfying breakfast and a beautiful view. The room service menu is straight off the Ilima Terrace menu. Everything is pricey so the breakfast buffet ($31 per person) was the best option. This buffet has a good balance to satisfy any breakfast craving from french toast with coconut syrup to a made to order omelet. My favorites things included the bread pudding, bacon, papaya, pineapple, pastries, and guava juice. The food options ranged from 3 to 4 stars. Service (4 stars) was very good. There was a good movement of staff to clear the plates quickly. They were nice enough the get me a little packet of li hing miu (plum powder) to sprinkle on my fruit. If you sit right by the koi pond, then please watch your food. Even when I kindly took a picture for honeymooners, the bird devoured my omelet. There is also a beautiful swan that shows off in the mornings. If you're staying at the resort, then this is a great breakfast spot. However, if you just want pastries and coffee, then the Seaview Terrace is a good spot for something lighter with a great view. read more

Giving it 1 star only because we were seated at the best spot in the entire restaurant. We were seated overlooking their swan/fish pond. Couple things: 1. When your kitchen closes at 2pm, please do not allow reservations for 1:45pm, guests feel rushed. 2. When a vegetarian asks you for recommendations, please dont say things like "eat the fruit plate"...if i wanted that, i wouldn't come to the Hyatt. I ordered the grilled tofu sandwich. I came here daily for the breakfast buffet during my stay, and it was the best breakfast buffet I've ever had. First off, the setting was very beautiful. It's so nice to have a view of the ocean while dining. And all of the foods were laid out beautifully. There is such a variety! I really liked the daily island special. It was their take on a traditional breakfast dish. For example, they would have corned beef hash made with Maui onions. Very creative, delicious, and well-executed! They also had a lot of tropical fruit juice options. The service was amazing, as well. My waitress brought out more tropical fruit jams for me to take home as a souvenir. :) read more

Solid breakfast spot if you're visiting for guests and non-guests! Brunch is a bit pricy, but might be worth it if you love breakfast. I went twice and between those two trips, ordered the pancakes with berries, scrambled eggs, bacon, orange juice, hot tea, and a mango smoothie (which was more like a shake than a smoothie) Lovely experience and an absolutely GORGEOUS view. It sounds pricey - and it is - but if you arrive around 9:30 or 10 you can stretch out a meal that could become a "brunch", and you may not need to eat until dinner. There is a quality omelette bar that has a bunch of good options. The fruit is delicious - fresh and tasty. One of the most popular options is the salmon, and there is also a variety of waffles, pancakes, bread puddings, eggs Benedict, chicken sausage, bacon, etc.. There are four juices that are fresh - including pineapple and mango. Coffee is served at the table (espresso drinks are extra). The service staff is friendly and they do work hard to keep your table clear and drop off clean utensils (they pretty much expect people to go back for more!). read more

Ilima Terrace is a perfect fit in such a grand hotel and resort. It has floor to ceiling large doors left open to allow diners to enjoy the gorgeous views of the resort area, beach and the ocean. Everything (from the rice, veggies to the protein) was just made to perfection and plated beautifully. Everything was superb. Incredible service. We never had to call them over for anything. This was the worst meal I had in Kauai during my 1-week stay there. In fact, I'd even go as far as to say it's the worst meal I've had in a while. I had the eggs benedict, which is pretty hard to do wrong but the one I had here was soo bland and used very underwhelming ingredients - the hollandaise tasted like it was just microwaved from a jar and poured over the eggs. The has browns were cooked so thick that parts of it were not cooked and soggy. I had some coconut latte and it was also the worst coffee I had on the island - it was lukewarm, overly sweet, and not flavorful at the same time. read more

I've eaten here a lot because it is the only place for a lunch meeting spot at the Grand Hyatt, but I wish there were better options. I've ordered several dishes such as the pesto crushed fish and prawn salad, and the miso mahi and all of my fish was overcooked. The rice was really mushy for both my mahi dish, and the hand roll appetizer. My favorite was the kalua pork quesadilla appetizer because the tortilla was very crunchy. Service was slow and we frequently had to go up to ask for someone to come, but perhaps we just haven't embraced island pace yet. read more

Excellent friendly service, combined with nice view of the resort and a pond where swans frolic around. Had both breakfast and lunch here. And our meals were an "A" every time. My wife loved the "Local Boy" breakfast dish and they made a mean omelette. For lunch their Katsu was pretty solid. Pro tip, if you are a World of Hyatt member you get 20% off your lunch. Which is great. Just make sure to mention it to them when you get your check. Another tip, if you don't like birds, you might want to consider somewhere else. There are a bunch flying around inside because it's an open restaurant. But they're harmless. The food is impressive, but wish it was a bit cheaper. read more

But this is a review about the pasta buffet (and not the hotel) and it is horrible. For almost $60/person the burgers we ate at the Lihue airport cafe tasted even better. The meats, fish and vegetables were overcooked while the pasta sauces lacked flavor. The desserts were decent however. We stayed at Grand Hyatt Kauai for over a week, and have breakfast here everyday. Food was okay, regular breakfast food and nothing special. My biggest issue is that some of the buffet attendants were rude, especially if they think you are a local (shameful!). In particular, a lady attending fruit and pastry buffet, was very rude and refused to help me and my 5 yro son. We were first in line to get the fruits, instead of helping us she was busy asking other customers (who are not in the line and non-local looking) if they need something from her buffet station (weird to say the least!). I was very disappointed with the service and prejudice type of attitude Grand Hyatt allowed their employees to behave. The most disappointing part for me is having to answer my son's question of why we were ignored and passed up for food even though we patiently waited in line. In this day, these type of behaviors , especially in hospitality industry, should not have happened at any cost. Sadly, we still witnessed it. read more
