Francesco and Sylvia brought the warmth, friendly personality while the chefs delivered some amazing meal with the Fantasia pizza with yellow and red fresh tomato, mozzarella di bufala. Really fresh, light, and tasty. The Focaccia was crispy seasoned well complementing the tagliare (met and cheese plate). The bruschetta with eggplant was comforting. Everything was great. Came across this restaurant as we were walking to another. The food on the outside tables looked good as did the menu on the wall. We decided to sit down and give it a try. The outside seating was clean and comfortable. The service was very good. Our server, Alina, spoke English which was nice but my wife did order in Italian which Alina enjoyed. The food was delicious. After hearing about their gluten-free options, I visited Il Tulipano Nero (The Black Tulip) during my May 2024 trip to Rome. I was certainly impressed by most aspects of my experience and had the best pasta during my trip here. They were very busy with a lively outdoor seating area. The staff seemed friendly, but there was one particular man who was out, interacting with customers and seemed super happy, energetic and friendly which was nice to see. The menu featured photos of celebrities, mainly footballers including Sergio Ramos, Matthijs de Ligt, Mo Salah, Jurgen Klopp, Gigi Buffon, Edin Dzeko, Virgil Van Dijk, Cristiano Ronaldo, Aleksandar Kolarov and many others. Most of the menu can be made gluten-free, I ended up opting for the Carbonara, while my guest had the lasagna. The lasagna was one of their daily specials. As a little side, we went for something else our waiter recommended which was similar to arancini. The Arancini-style start was a disappointment, they just felt plain and while the inside was OK, the outside crumb just wasn't good at all. My pasta on the other hand was really good, I loved how they served it in a pan, and the guanciale was cooked perfectly, and both the sauce and GF pasta were good, making it one of the best carbonaras I've had in quite a while. My guest commented that she would have liked more meat in her lasagna, and also felt it had too much cheese, although she did compliment the pasta. Pricing was reasonable and competitive. It was slightly expensive considering it is a walk to the more touristy parts of the city, but my Carbonara was certainly worth it. Sure some things went wrong but all in all one of the best places to grab some gluten-free pasta in Roma, with great service and I will certainly return the next time I am in the city. 4* read more

I don't know what happened but we ordered pizza and a salad for 30 euros and the waiter asked if we wanted a glass of wine, I said yes, white please and my husband ordered a beer. We didn't specify what type. He did bring an enormous size glass for the beer though. When I went to pay, it was 77 euros!!! So over 40 euros for our drinks. Last summer, I ate at Il Tulipano Nero with my husband and his family and we were all blown away by the amazing flavors. I am celiac and was so so happy with the wide array of options. The waitress was high on marijuana, couldn't remember any of our order and had to ask us multiple times what we wanted. Food was terrible. We ordered some bruschetta and instead received 3 other random starters. Whole experience was weird and bizarre. I don't think this was totally a language barrier situation. This should be a gluten free Mecca. Instead it is like all the other tourist traps. I got a GF pizza and it arrive cold. I called the waiter over and he yelled it had to be the best pizza ever! No I replied its cold. This was odd as all the other food came out first so the waiters must have been chasing tourist down the street to badger them to come in and let my pizza sit until it was cold. They brought it out 5minutes later and it was hot. Still it as so-so. Making a new one or an apology would have been nice. I am so f*in tired of all the tourist traps in Rome, and this is seriously no exception! Steer away at all costs! I was actually heading for the restaurant beside this one, since a friend had recommended it, but because there were so many people sitting down at this place, we decided to give it a try. First of all. Our waiter was this nice and cute Italian girl, which I am sure did her best at first. But she seriously rushed through our meal like she wanted us out of there before we had even sat down. That's not right. Second, I am a celiac so this was supposed to be heaven for me. But I really don't understand the deal with pricing EVERYTHING in the menu gluten free for a euro extra. Like "mixed salad" isn't gluten free to start with? Come on!! So, I ordered bruschetta with tomatoes to start and baked lamb with potatoes for second course (lamb is my favorite kind of meat). The waiter was super happy when I told her I could just have it served at the same time, and rushed away at once. The bruschetta was all right I guess, not the best gastronomic experience, but mediocre. The lamb was.... Bland? It tasted like lamb, but nothing else. I couldn't even see pepper on there. I certainly hope the Italians can make lamb better than this! (I know the French do) Then, the worst of all - when we asked for the bill, it took some time (unlike the rest of the meal and the general experience), before our waiter rushed to our table again. Then she started explaining the bill to us. We were seriously charged 8 euros just for sitting at the sidewalk outdoor seating at the restaurant, because of "police taxes they had to pay to use the sidewalk". WTF????! First of all - I call bs. Second, if you have to pay a tax to sit in a specific area at a restaurant, you should be notified and ASKED about that when you sit down. If I had known this, I would off course had sit inside instead!! I actually want to call the police myself to ask what the f*k this is about. Also, we were (as usual) charged 2 euros each just to sit down and had pre packaged bread thrown in front of us. In a restaurant that advertise SO clearly that they serve gluten free food, you shouldn't have to pay for bread that you get sick by eating! As good as it gets! We ate here for 5 days straight (right outside our air bnb) for either lunch dinner, food consistently across the board 10 out of 10. The pizza tops my list. Pasta cooked PERFECTLY. We also enjoyed some meat dishes, pork leg and ox tail, each memorable. What makes this place wonderful is the staff, quality of food and the prices.
