I just went to dinner here with my family. This is perhaps some of the worst food that I've ever had in my life. In fact we threw some of it away. We had to send some of the food back as it was too cold. Seriously, the lasagna tasted old and was cold. They didn't even bother reheating it enough to bring it up to a Stouffer's level of taste. It was like bad school lunch level of taste. And that was even after covering it in cheese. I had a pasta carbonara which was ok. The pork they sent out had been drenched in mint and basil. More or less inedible. I advise going anywhere over this place. Even the sandwich shop down the street can do better. Definitely a tourist trap feel. WORST FOOD EVER!!!!! read more

In a city renowned for its cuisine, it's hard to say which restaurant is truly "best." However, I can say that Il Papalino is definitely my favorite. Close to the vatican, it is a perfect location for a light lunch or heavy dinner for tourists and pilgrims. Unlike many American restaurants, don't expect ice or big drinks. While walking around by the Vatican in the evening we decided to stop here afterwards for a late dinner. What a great place, beautiful ambiance, friendly wait staff, amazing food and great wine! Will go here again for sure and recommend! The best way to describe this? Olive Garden quality food in Italy! Americans, like myself, know this is no compliment. I've eaten lots of great food here in Rome. This was the worst. From service to food, I was not a fan. The only good parts were that costs were reasonable and the outdoor dining experience was nice. My lasagna came cold and had to be reheated. It was no great loss any way because it was mostly devoid of flavor. Maybe they had an off night. Idk. There are lots of other great places within walking distance. I'd recommend those instead. read more

Terrible experience, the waiters were rude and unhelpful. We ordered two pizzas, and received one that had the wrong ingredients (it had egg and artichokes, but was not supposed to) while the other had pieces of paper and plastic attached to the salami. We told the waiters who eventually reluctantly took them back, we actually had to point to the ingredients on the menu to make the waiters realize the pizza had the wrong topping. They then proceeded to tell us the oven had just broken (pizza oven breaking, sure) and told us to leave. We had to pay the 3 euros for the water we ordered (and barely had time to drink any of). read more

Great fresh pasta and fish. But milanese veal was frozen. We had fresh ravioli with ricotta and spinach, that were wonderful. Then orata con patate cooked in the wood log oven: excellent. And a melanzane alla parmiggiana (eggplant gratin) that was very good also. Only disappointment was a milanese veal that was clearly frozen food... The OWNER IS RUDE!! This was by far the WORST experience I've had dining in Italy. I've been to Italy 4 times in my life and have stayed for months at a time and have never experienced what I did tonight. - Ordered wine & our glasses had soap suds so we asked to have the glasses replaced. They did so right away along with the bottle which was nice. - After replacing the glasses we ordered food. Was offered bread (which is usually on the house) and it came four tiny slices of pita. (Which they charged us 6 euro for) - Our meals came shortly after. Received my spaghetti con vongale (w/clams & olive oil), which was instead just spaghetti w/ water and old clams. Lacking flavour is one thing I can deal with. But eating smelly, old clams is not okay. I attempted a couple bites before realizing this meal would make me sick if consumed. - 3 of the four meals at our table was awful. The only delicious meal was the plain tomato sauce pasta. - We called over the waitress who refused to believe us and just shook her head and walked away. Then called over the owner who instead raised his voice and slammed the hot oil on the table, almost knocking the wine over onto my boyfriend yelling in Italian that we did not know food because we asked for peroncino with pasta ( I can understand Italian as my dad was born here, but can not speak). This was our first attempt. - We then called him over again and said we'd like the bill and will not be eating this food and he pushed my boyfriends shoulder (Literally put his hands on him, which in hindsight we should've called the cops) and yelled about us not knowing food and followed with vaf******* (f*** off). I could not believe he touched him or swore at us. We were in total shock as the OWNER was handling his business in this manner. We are paying customers and should NEVER be made to feel this way when dining. Totally inappropriate. - He refused to take anything off the bill when we explained we could not eat the dishes as they were old and did not taste good. The waitress brought our bill and they had the nerve to even charge us 6 euro for bread on top of all other dishes which were not eaten. How ridiculous. When we mentioned the bread she did remove it at least. But still were left to pay 62 euro, that of which we only ate 1 of the 4 meals and drank a bottle of wine. I cannot believe this place is still open. It is a disgrace to the Italian culture, which is usually very hospitable. I would give this a 0 if I could as it was not worth the upset we experienced on our last evening in Rome. read more

So we stumbled across this place after we landed in Rome in the evening. The main waiter was kind to me when I asked to order our food in Italian. I had prosciutto with melon and chicken in a white wine sauce (I can't remember the Italian right now) but both were out of this world. Combined with a 10€ bottle of house wine on a warm evening outside in the midst of native Italians....it was incredible. What a great find! read more

FRUIT FLY INFESTATION!!!! My husband and I had a horrible experience here. We knew going in prices and quality would be affected by the tourist area but we had been up since 6 with no breakfast and it was 12:30 after a morning at the Vatican and were hungry. Our waitress was inattentive and rude, plopping plates down on top of our menus, hardly spoke to us at all other than taking our order. Then we had speck, parm and an arugula salad to start that was very tasty and then we both ordered the rigatoni with tomato and prosciutto or bacon-good tomato flavor but no bacon or prosciutto flavor at all. Portions were fair. Worst though was mid way through our meal we noticed black specks moving on the wall across from us- the place is INFESTED with fruit flies. We couldn't get out of there fast enough and waited so long for our waitress that we had to flag her down ourselves...and she gave us a bill that was wrong! (She charged us for an item we didn't order) The manager agreed to change it but was less than accommodating with us. AVOID!!! Easily our worst dining experience in our 12 day Italy trip. read more

The food was excellent. The service was great and the atmosphere was relaxing. Highly recommend following any Vatican visit.

My wife were in town for 5 days and we have tried a different place every night. This place was very polite and always made sure we were taken care of we dined our on the street. Very nice set up I would definitely come back the next time we are in town. The food here is very very good. And the beer and wine was cold. Don't be fooled by the bad reviews of the ones that can't be satisfied. read more
