This was the first restaurant we visited when we arrived in Rome. The upside it was within walking distance and featured the menu in Italian and English we also had the benefit of a waiter who spoke English. We ordered 2 appetizers the Which was delicious, and the pizza bread which was also good. We ordered 3 different pizzas including the Margherita pizza, a spicy sausage pizza, and the house specialty which had ricotta and ham baked in the crust. All were beautifully made in the wood fired oven, and presented beautifully.The highlight of the meal however was the the discovery of Italian Fanta soda which we enjoyed thoroughly. The downside: I give this place 3 stars however because of an exchange with our waiter about eating habits of various nationalities that was inappropriate and offensive. read more

Normally I would give this place a 3 stars for the value (pricey!) but seeing how it's in the heart of a huge tourist zone filled with terrible, cheaply made, and overpriced food, this restaurant seemed to be a nice change of pace. Just minutes from the Vatican City entrance, you'll find a huge amount of restaurants with terrible food or flavourless oily food for a few Euros. We were told that Amalfi was a fairly good restaurant that does Neapolitan style pizza in a nice clean atmosphere that wasn't incredibly expensive. They weren't wrong! The restaurant has huge woodfire stone oven for their pizza and if you're in a rush, they have some premade slices in the entry area. If you're looking to sit down and enjoy a few moments (or a lot of moments in our case), this would be a good option before spending hours in the Vatican. The restaurant has a lot of tables inside and outside if you prefer to enjoy your meal in the Roman sun. It is quite clean and I didnt find the place overloud or crowded. It was nice considering I just spent hours being in line up and crowds at the Coliseum. My only issue with the place is the service... ordering is slow. Very very slow and it can seem to be very confused. Also, the kitchen seems best to be focused on their pizza and salads. Around us, everyone who ordered pasta either got them significantly later than everyone else at the table or it went missing! Margherita pizza - The most reasonable priced item on the list and though its close to $20 Canadian ($13 Euros), it was a generous personal pizza that could easily feed 2 people or one super hungry person. It wasn't as nicely charred or spotted like traditional Neapolitan but it had a pretty good taste to it. 3.5/5 Tonno salad - What seems to be a very generous serving is really a large shallow service platter. It could be used as a platter for the entire table but for a person, it's just the right size for one. Still it was filled with very good olives, tuna, grape tomatoes, slices of carrots, and fresh leaves. I enjoyed eating this and would say that their salads are pretty good. Like the pizza, it is nearly $20 Canadian ($13 Euros) and its expensive but seeing how we're within 100 m of the Vatican, it was a good place to eat real food. 3.5/5 Sometimes you can't find a good place to eat when you're in the heart of a tourist zone but Amalfi offers good food with fairly decent but slow service ... yes it's at a price but seeing how there's cardboard being served as pizza for $5 Euros a slice, I feel this is a much better option! read more

Went back for a sit down meal- fried rice balls, 2.50 each (basically tasted like fried Spanish rice), pasta- 12 euros for a plate, and mineral water, 2.50 for 1/2 L. Ended up being 32 euro when the 3 dollar service charge was added on. I guess the pasta wasn't a bad deal- it had flavor, especially the pesto (the cheese and pepper less so)- but I won't go back. The take out pizza is a good deal- the sit down restaurant is only so so. On the other hand, if your desperate, it certainly is "good enough" and it's a tough area to find decent food at any kind of reasonable price. read more

We received to Reccos for this place...interesting point, the pizzeria amalfi is located right across the street from the amalfi...same family, just heavier on the pizza offerings vice assorted pastas etc. Though we did not eat there, looking at the traffic and food being brought out, worth a stop as well. Why so close? Couldn't tell ya...must be a Roman thing. For starters, their house red wine was excellent, a crowd pleaser!! Several nice pasta dishes were ordered...all nicer presented. One critique, the seafood pasta was ok, a little light on quality/quantity....room for improvement. On a high note, the ravioli porcini was marvelous...a new taste for me/heavy looking but presents as both light and savory, bravo!! Here is to the best Pasta Carbonara I ate in Rome. And when I say it is the best is because I had it in at least 10 other places (4.0 and up rated) and this one is the best hands down. Beautiful flavors, not too heavy, perfectly crisped bacon, al dente pasta, not over egged, not oily... It was superb. Now, wine list is extensive and the prices are very good to the quality of the wine they offer, pizza is very good and the people who tend the place are very helpful. We were in Rome for two weeks for study abroad and this is the one restaurant we went to more than once because it was that good!! Everything from their pizza to bruschetta to salads and seafood was amazing and so very tasteful. The service was also one of the best we had received in Rome. Word of advise, get the fries!! We stopped by after a quick trip to St Peters square, needed a quick bite before the walk back to the hotel. Pretty standard Italian fare, we had the Gnocchi al Ragu, Bufalina pizza, and Bruschetta. The gnocchi was great, but a fairly small portion, the pizza had delicious cheese, but wasn't the focaccia bread we've come to appreciate in Rome. The Bruschetta was amazing, delicious olive oil and tomato really highlighted our favorite dish here. My suggestion would be to stick to small portion dishes and drinks here, maybe not a full meal, but serviceable none the less if you're hungry! read more

Stopped in on a recommendation from our tour guide during our visit to Vatican City. Delicious pizza, salad, & cappuccino! Pizzas are medium sized, was enough as a light meal for 2 paired with a salad. Salad serving size was BIG so I was glad my husband & I had decided we would share. Had the salad with olives (unpitted), tomatoes, & mozzarella. Pizza was tomato, cheese, basil, & anchovies. Good ration of all ingredients, anchovies can be tricky. Too many & that's all you can taste, too few & you miss the point of even ordering something with them at all. Wanted a shot of something a bit sweet with my cappuccino because it was a bit damp & chilly during our tour. Our waiter looked at me like I had multiple heads when I asked about a cordial. He told me I could have Sambuca, AFTER my meal. I don't care for licorice thus have never liked Sambuca. I asked for Frangelica, Tuaca, Bailey's...all were unavailable. Other than Sambuca, our waiter had no suggestions but finally I came up with Kahlua, which WAS available. Yippee, me. It was a good choice, but Tuaca or Frangelica would have been better because, geez, I was in ITALY not Mexico, LOL. Anyway, the food was very good to excellent, the prices were fair; €30 for 2, and there is the service/seating fee included in that. The reviews that decry the practice of the service/table fee are ignorant. There is limited tipping practice in Europe, and that certainly applies to Rome. And you know how that proverb rolls, right? When in Rome... Personally, I like tipping because I once depended on waiting tables & bar when in college & had I not been given a bit of attitude when I wanted a toddy to go along with my coffee, I would have left my loose Euro change BUT any pissiness, especially in a high volume tourist area does not deserve reward. Good food, decent value, nice ambiance but a bit of attitude. If you can stomach that, you'll enjoy this place. I'm honestly shocked that this place only has 3 stars. I went her twice today! I first came for lunch and had a delicious 4 cheese slice. Then, I came back for dinner with my roommate and had fettuccine bolognese. the server was so wonderful and asked my roommate out for wine. We had great service. I will be coming back again. I also told my other roomates and they were so thankful that I told them about this place because they thought it was delicious. read more
