Complimentary Bread with 3 spreads

A lot of restaurants have become boring copies of each other lately. This weekend I returned to a place that I haven't been to since it opened with its original chef maybe 20+ years ago? Il Luogo in Lynbrook. NY. I was pleasantly surprised. The service is old world professional, attentive and personal, the dishes are creative both in flavor and presentation and the atmosphere allows for conversation. Nice to see how some things haven't changed.

This place was just beautiful the lighting from the outside the decorations inside was very romantic. Our server was really great and his recommendations were spot on. The food was delicious it was my first time having squid in pasta and I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious it was. My husband and I will definitely go back

Have to hit up IL Luogo for restaurant week!

Local Italian fine dining serving up a 5 star experience every and any time you go. Prior to the COVID pandemic [2020/21] I was able to pop into this location a couple times, whether for a restaurant week special barside or with family for a birthday dinner. Each time satisfied the tastebuds to always walk away wanting to go back and try some more of their menu. Most know that the pandemic did a number on local small businesses, with many struggling to survive. I was very happy to see as things started coming back to our new normal, this local gem survived through it all. They now are still offering the outdoor [heated] dining tent [all year round it seems] since the capacity and social distancing went into effect to get all local restaurant businesses back up and running, if you wish to still dine in that manner. It's a new year 2022 and I just had to get back in to see where they were at with their diverse menu that i remembered. I was not let down one bit from beginning to end of an exquisite meal noting that that menu seemed to be expanded, total bonus, all the traditional Italian fan favorites and more delicately plated and presented to perfection! Started this chilly February evening with my guy at the bar having a Gimlet and Courvoisier VS Cognac as we waited for the table we reserved. Once seated we heard the chefs daily specials which all sounded fabulous...so of course had to personally temp my tastebuds with a few. Started of with their seafood avocado mango appetizer and the chefs Cauliflower Lobster soup of the day. Both were nicely presented and tasted great, although a little more sizable Lobster pieces of course would have made it that much better ;) What can I say I'm a seafood lover, so maybe l weigh on the side of never enough. :) I followed that up by selecting the Pistachio crusted Swordfish over a dijon creme sauce with mashed potatoes and spinach chefs entree special. This fish was so masterfully cooked to perfection, softly curling into the fork with such ease, I enjoyed every last bite! My guy opted a more traditional veal entree and ordered their Vitello Alla Saltimbocca. He raved cooked nicely with great flavor throughout, not one piece left behind or lost their either, well except for the bite I tried. ;) We couldn't stop their and nor should anyone, as one of any of their dessert selections to indulge in solo or shared is highly recommended, coupled with a Cappuccino and dessert liquor of course. We selected their Cheesecake and Apple pie and shared across sipping our Cappuccinos [w/Disaronno & Kahlua liqueurs]. Overall a fabulous welcome for my guys first time there, as he has been dying to try IL Luogo out for some time, and a more marvelous, mouthwatering return for this foodie ;) Nothing like closing out the night for all in style. I will be back for sure and highly recommend to even the pickiest palettes to definitely dine here and repeat...You won't be disappointed.

Not my first time here but there was just so much going on around me that it was difficult to focus on the food portion of the visit. Street parking was fairly easy here and just a short walk back to the restaurant. In the middle of this vibrant restaurant with people speaking, laughing and really enjoying themselves, I get to give a speech. The funny part here was that when I got up to speak, someone having dinner gets up and says: "I know you." Appetizers came out family style. Calamari, salad, and pasta. All very good and very fresh. The serving staff did a great job supporting this large crowd. I also appreciate that what needed to be hot, was hot and what needed to be cool was just that. My main meal consisted of Chicken Francaise which was excellent. Thin tatsy-fresh pieces of chicken with a very tasty francaise sauce. PLenty of food here... No one goes home hungry. Happy to come here, very happy to eat hear and enjoy myself in a very fun family restaurant. The team did an amazing job here and needs to be recognized for all their hard work. When you enter their space, you can see pictures on the walls of previous guests, then the owner will come right over to you, greet you, and get you to your table. There is a bar area that you can wait at if it's a busy night. THE GROWS: Parking is on-street, or a short walk to a lot. READ THE SIGNAGE. Depending on the time of day and day of the week you go, parking can be annoying, but the food is worth it! THE GLOWS: Once you are seated, you will be greeted with complimentary caponata and a bread basket with a ton of bread choices. Additionally, they will give you a tray of bruschetta, with one piece per person. They also leave a bottle of their own olive oil on the table. During my latest visit, I enjoyed a glass of chianti, their stuffed zucchini flowers, and a risotto special. There are SO MANY menu choices. I highly recommend going with a few people and all ordering something different, that way you have a tour of their impressive menu. They do not have a social media presence, but they do have a website that they keep updated. They are also "Dining Deal Foodie" approved, because they offer a lunch special for $21.95, which includes 3 courses AND coffee, tea, espresso, or cappuccino. WOW!

The Chef's Table in Lynbrook was a really impressive experience from start to finish…read more It's tucked away on Watkins Street just off Merrick Road, so it definitely has that true hidden gem feel. The restaurant is warm, comfortable and a little more upscale without feeling stuffy. White tablecloths, great service and very reasonable prices. The service deserves a mention on its own because everyone was incredibly attentive, friendly and genuinely seemed to care about making sure we had a great experience. I started with an Espresso Martini, which was honestly one of the best I've had, followed by a Lychee Martini that was also excellent. For food, the Calamari con Gamberi was a standout for me. I actually prefer calamari braised like this instead of breaded, and theirs was tender and full of flavor with shrimp, cherry peppers, white beans and tomato sauce. The Chef's Table Salad with shrimp was super fresh and light. The goat cheese, pear, prosciutto, pistachios and lemon thyme dressing all worked really well together without the dressing overpowering anything. The Lobster & Crab Ravioli was excellent and that saffron cream sauce was the star. I can absolutely see why this is one of their best sellers. I also tried the Pollo alla Franca with Bell & Evans organic chicken, prosciutto, spinach, artichokes, mozzarella and Port wine mushroom sauce. Rich, flavorful and very well executed. Even though I'm normally not a big dessert person, they make all of their desserts in-house, so I had to try a few. The flourless chocolate cake, warm apple tart and Belgian chocolate mousse were all excellent, especially that mousse -- very rich with a strong Belgian chocolate flavor. This was my first time here, but definitely not my last. Great Italian food, excellent cocktails, fantastic service and a true neighborhood hidden gem. Highly recommend.

We were lucky enough to stop in during long island resturant week and participate in the prefix meal. I had the research salad which was fresh and sauce. Unfortunately the caprese salad and eggplant balls fell short. Will go back again for light bites

Unfortunately, Selita's failed with the first impression. We walked past a very small bar and into the dining room, which had a musty smell. The green walls, red leather tufted seats, and mirrors on the walls gave the place a very dated, old-fashioned feel. Since it was our first time there, we decided to play it safe and just order a couple of appetizers. We had the grilled octopus and the eggplant Parmigiana. The eggplant Parmigiana was tasty, but we would not consider it an authentic Italian dish. The grilled octopus, on the other hand, was a completely different story. It was incredibly tough and chewy - honestly, it was like eating a garden hose. It really seemed as though it had been cooked ahead of time and then reheated. When we left, my wife looked at me and said, "We're never coming back here again." Unfortunately, I had to agree. That's really a shame because we genuinely wanted to like Selita's. It's close to home, and we were hoping to find a new local favorite. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I suppose that's the chance you take when trying a new restaurant. Sometimes you find a gem, and sometimes you don't. Unfortunately, Selita's was a "swing and a miss" for us.
