I went to Raza's for a Friday lunch meeting, which is how many small human dramas begin. It was…read morenoon when the doors opened and inside stood one poor young man tasked with running the entire dining room by himself. This was not a metaphor. This was a fact. And yet he performed a yeoman's job, moving from table to table with the calm bravery of someone who has accepted his fate and decided to try his best to do right by strangers anyway. The room itself was lovely, still dressed up for the holidays like a house that refuses to admit the season has moved on. It was pleasant to sit there and feel briefly insulated from the outside world, which was surely still doing whatever it does to people who skip lunch. I ordered the Wild Mushroom Risotto. It was delicious, earthy and comforting, the sort of dish that suggests someone in the kitchen cares. The portion, however, was modest for the price, leaving me fed but contemplative. My companions ordered a Caesar salad with salmon and a wedge salad with chicken, and both appeared content, which is often the highest praise one can expect at midday. With tip, the bill came to about one hundred dollars for three people at lunch, which felt a bit steep for what landed on the table. There is no crime in that, but it does linger in the mind afterward. So here we are. A good meal, a kind and overworked server, a pleasant room, and food that was enjoyable but not generous. Given the abundance of good eating options nearby, it will probably be a while before I return. I do not regret going. I am simply aware that time, money, and lunches are all finite things. Which is something worth remembering anywhere you eat, including places you like.

My wife and I came to Brick Farm Tavern for my birthday dinner since we like trying someplace new…read morein the area. The setting is very nice. It has a rustic farmhouse feel (wood floors with wide boards, multiple fireplaces) but still comes across as more upscale than your typical tavern. The dining room has a warm atmosphere without being too loud, so you can actually have a conversation without shouting. We started with the seasonal pickle plate (beets, carrots, cauliflower, cucumber, fennel, olives) and the bread plate (three different breads with two different butters and olive oil). Both were a good way to kick things off. The pickled vegetables had a nice variety and the bread was fresh and paired well with the accompaniments. For our entrees, my wife went with the homemade pasta while I chose the Wagyu NY strip steak cooked medium rare with bourbon maple glazed root vegetables. The steak was cooked exactly as requested and had great flavor. The root vegetables added a nice sweetness that complemented the dish well. My wife really enjoyed her pasta and had enough to take some home. To finish the night, we had the mozzarella gelato (yes, you read that right - mozzarella), along with tea for my wife and coffee and Sambuca for me. The gelato was a unique dessert and a nice way to wrap up the meal. Our waitress Jemma was very friendly and attentive throughout the night without being overbearing. Overall, everything was very good. This is definitely a place we would return to, especially for a nice dinner out.

The service was very friendly, and the food came out promptly. They also provided complimentary champagne for our celebration. For appetizers, the duck bacon and vegetable fritters ($16) and hand-made potato and cheese pierogies ($19) were ordered. The fritters consisted of house cured and smoked duck breast with a whipped lemon ricotta. There were two present and each were fried perfectly. The lemon ricotta was definitely needed to pair with the salty fritter. It was a great compliment. The pierogies were of the squash variety and they came with caramelized onions and sauteed greens. There were about five or six substantial size pierogies and each sized appropriately. The squash layer really made them airy and the filling was tasty. The onions were a little too soft as there was some type of broth present. The greens were ideal though. For an entrée, I had the signature tavern burger ($38). It was a cold smoked grass-fed ground beef patty with caramelized onion, bone marrow, bacon jam, and potato wedges. I also had the gruyere and bacon added to the burger for no extra fee. When I initially ordered, I thought the bone marrow was just going to be on the burger, but I was wrong. Right next to the burger was one of bigger bone marrows I have seen. It was very good with the onions and bacon pieces. The marrow itself paired nicely with the bacon and onions. For the burger itself, I opted for it to be medium rare, and it came out perfect. There was an ideal ratio of bread to filling. The bacon jam was not too overpowerful, and the meat was seasoned well. The potato wedges which I believe were cooked in tallow were also large. They were crispy and seasoned nicely too. It was a well put together meal. I also tried the lamb being offered that night which I believe came with a lamb sausage and a shallot tzatziki. This was solid as well, but there were a number of fatty pieces I was surprised to see. For dessert, the mozzarella gelato ($12) was ordered. Yes, this had to be ordered to give it a try, and it was well received. There was not an overpowerful flavor of cheese, which I was afraid of. It did taste like mozzarella, but not overwhelming. The actual gelato was very creamy too, which I am sure helped. Will I go back? I would.

A really intimate place, with probably like 15 tables max inside, and a little bar that can sit also about the same amount of people, but still looks new and fresh, and also be on the lookout because when you're driving the place sneaks up on you. The friendliest service, Lauren who seated us and served us was truly genuine, and I told her I really appreciate that as most restaurants don't have that sense of personal customer service, actually noticeable and appreciated. The food was also really good, the dip was flavorful, could be a little warmer but still very good, the chips were next level, and this was a huge hit. The calamari was lightly breaded, and also I do appreciate the two sauces to choose from when dipping, either Kung Pao or Marinara. I got the Pastrami Rub Tuna over Scallion Mash, and when I first looked at it I thought the fish piece was a bit small, but after eating it, it was the perfect size, and the mash was delicious, and the Wasabi Sauce to dip the fish really made the dish Pop. Drinks were okay, started with a kick and boozy but finished a bit watery for my first one, the second one I had with Mescal was a 10/10 though. This place needs attention, and the fact that it is still pretty low key and food influencers haven't descended to blow up it's spot is awesome.

Have to say that while it appears to be an amusement park from beyond the fence with massive water slides and multiple aquamarine pools for various uses; from within it makes more sense and is actually quite attractive in a hyperactive way. Happy Hour with half price drinks was a good deal, and the bar food offerings were also well designed to complement the alcoholic drinks, if not all that tasty, nor compelling in their own right. So many people in a relatively small space around the bar, that conversation was a bit challenging. Plenty of alternative distractions among the many "beautiful" folks who enjoy being the center of attention, and know how to do it right, especially when encouraged with beverage. With music playing in the background the experience was a mixed bag. Clearly, the plan is a bit over the top, and made for people with kids or those who like this glitterati experience. Yet, there was a full house that evening, and business was booming. Covid put an end to the crowds for the last year, but I suspect the club will be back in action full tilt come vaccinations and reduced mask wearing. I'm the more cautious type, and will wait a while before accepting my next invitation.

Dim lighting, big comfortable leather chairs, bookshelves lining the walls, a fully stocked bar, and historic photos throughout the space create a classic lodge vibe that feels timeless without being stuffy. It is cozy, polished, and incredibly relaxing. The staff is knowledgeable and clearly takes pride in what they serve. The craft cocktails are well made and thoughtful, and if you prefer beer, there are solid options there too. As a bourbon lover, I especially enjoyed their private barrel pick served neat, a real treat and easily a standout pour. This is a perfect pre-dinner or post-evening stop, we have done both, and it works beautifully either way. Dress is slightly casual but leans upscale, and while pricing is a bit higher than average, it feels completely worth it for the setting, quality, and experience.
