Il Chianti is located right by the Trevi Fountain, which may turn some people away to avoid tourist traps. I can promise you Il Chianti might be the best restaurant in the vicinity. They offer house made pasta dishes, a long selection of wine, traditional second dishes, and a lively atmosphere. The pasta is absolutely delicious. For my main dish I got the raw beef that is slightly cooked and topped with spinach, pine nuts, and an eggplant spread. I was a little bit skeptical but it really was not "raw" per say. It was pink but warm and tasted great! My dad got the veal chops and absolutely loved it. It was very flavorful and tender. My brother got the meatballs topped with fresh marinara sauce. read more

Il Chianti has one of the best pasta Carbonara in Rome and probably one of the best I've ever had!!!! During my last trip to Rome, I took it upon myself to find the best carbonara in the city. Il Chianti was the first restaurant we visited and I honestly couldn't believe how delicious it was. After having their carbonara, I kept comparing all of the other restaurants to them and no one came close (except a Michelin star restaurant we visited on our last day). Their pasta has the perfect balance of saltiness and creaminess. The carbonara is perfectly coated with the right amount of egg, the pecorino was delicious and don't even get my started on the pancetta. Very meh - Pretty disappointed for a 4.5 star Yelp rating. Our first night in Rome, we waited in line at this restaurant for about 25 minutes on a Thursday night. Sat outside which was fine, they had heaters and even blankets (did not use the blanket) so it was comfortable. Ordered the carbonara and beef raviolis. A salad with pears and Gorgonzola and a bottle of Pinot Grigio to start. The bread was awful. Service was very basic, order takers and deliverers if that makes any sense. The food wasn't terrible, it was very average. Maybe my expectations of Italian food in Rome were too high. We just got to Rome from Venice and the food quality and service differences are pretty stark so far. Here's hoping things turn up for our time in Rome. read more

This was our first meal in Italy and it did not disappoint. After a long day of walking along the Spanish steps and past the Trevi Fountain, we stopped here for lunch. The bread was delicious when dipped in olive oil with pepper and balsamic. We ordered a mixed salad which was good. The best part was the entree. I ordered a pumpkin ravioli with butter sauce and sage. My husband ordered the home made paccheri and said it was delicious! The service was wonderful- they were very attentive. My wife and I were on a ten day trip through Italy and this place was right by our hotel and The Trevi Fountain. We got a spot inside and my wife ordered the mixed vegetable soup, which I had a few bites of. Dear Lord, it was so fresh! This was a 10! I ordered an Italian beer, which I did not recognize, but it was really good! I got the large noodles with boar ragu. Every bite was perfect. Tons of flavor and fresh noodles are so much better than creamette boil stuff. I love a society that takes pride in their food. Go here! read more

The food was wonderful. The roast pig had a tremendous flavor. Everyone at the table was happy with their meals. It took 3 staff blatantly ignoring me while I was trying to get their attention and an additional 15 minutes to get my table water while other Caucasian/European-looking parties who came in after us received their water immediately after being sat down. Then it took the waiters 20 additional minutes to come by and take our order. After they finally took our order, we waited a solid 45-50 minutes for our food until I finally asked a second time if our food was ready. The excuse they gave was that making the pasta took a while, which was a lie because tables around us were getting their pasta about 5 minutes after they ordered. Since I've been traveling around Europe this summer, this is the first blatant encounter I've had with rude and racist staff ay a restaurant. Lastly, the food was okay, definitely a tourist trap. We each had a pasta course - mine was with mushrooms and tomatoes, his was carbonara. We ended up switching but both were good. BF thought neither dish was al debate, but other than that was good. We spilt a salad after that because were still full from our pizza lunch! Add in a bottle of wine and all was good. When we clean out the line here probably exceeded an hour. We had a great beef tartare and the "hunter's rabbit", both excellent. The best part is the wine selection. The clientele is a mixed of tourists and some locals. I wish we had eaten here one more time. We stayed in the small hotel right next to this restaurant. It opened at 11 or so but the kitchen didn't start cooking till 1115 which we were warned about prior to being seated. That was definitely appreciated. We were given time to review the menu and order drinks. Everything looked delicious but my husband and I wanted something on the smaller side. We had a caprese salad and shared a pizza. This was our first dinner in Rome and my wife and I had a great time! We recommend making a reservation since there was a long line that formed shortly after we arrived. We arrived on Thursday which in Rome means carbonara day! My wife had the carbonara and it didn't disappoint. We had the house red wine and took recommendations. Ahhh, Il Chianti! This place is what Italian dining dreams are made of! Though it's in a busy, wild street close to the Trevi Fountain, this place is no tourist trap. The food is legitimately great -- my wife and I split a prosciutto pizza and the Chianti insalatone (basically, a really big salad), and both were fantastic. The wine selection, as expected for a place with a name like this, was superb. The service was friendly and helpful, and though our waiter only spoke a bit of English, he tried his best to explain things to us. The price, while not cheap, is very reasonable for the quality of food. Best part of all? The beautiful outdoor patio, where you can enjoy all the deliciousness I mentioned above. read more

Arrived half-past 18:00, although the dinner menu wasn't ready until 19:00. In the meantime, I ordered meat cold-cuts (like charcuterie) with my family, which unfortunately didn't look very presentable, as it was literally placed on a normal dinner plate and served to us. Meats were okay, although portions for four people were small. We ordered dinner, and we got veal rolls and fettuccine with porcini mushrooms to share. Veal rolls were tiny, but the truffle sauce with it was divine. Fettuccine was okay, although it was served lukewarm. Service was slow, albeit it was busy that evening.
