We had just finished viewing Fontana di Trevi and were looking for a place to have a late lunch/early dinner. The issue I had was that I was in a super heavy tourist area and all of the restaurants we were walking past had people outside trying to lure us in. I wanted to avoid places like that, however via Yelp I discovered Il Chianti a short walk away. While still I assumed still touristy, the reviews were great and as we approached they weren't trying to lure us in, so we decided to try them out. I take this place is very popular since I noticed a sign instructing diners for form a line as we walked up to the restaurant. However, there was no line to be found and we were seated right away. Curb appeal is lovely, they have a decently-sized outdoor seating area though we opted to sit inside. The interior is a good size and compartmentalized into different rooms. The aesthetics are mostly classic with medium to dark wood tones. The menu contained some Tuscan dishes but also several that were more common outside of the region. We decided to start with two of their apps - a cheese plate and bread with fatty prosciutto, pistachio, and honey. The cheese plate was great, I love cheese and this one delivered - there was a good variety and the plate was paired with a few complements. The bread was great - the combination of the fatty prosciutto with the honey and nuts made for a great experience. There was a small salad in the center of the dish which was a welcome reprieve from the heaviness of the app. For my main I decided to get pasta - the paccheri with tomato sauce and burrata was speaking to me. The dish was great - pasta was cooked well and all of the components were super fresh. I've tried burrata in may settings but rarely in a pasta dish - it worked well and now I'll be seeking it out more often. Service was good - everyone was very friendly and there was a good pace to the rate our dishes came out. Overall, we had a great experience at Il Chianti - in a sea of touristy spots by the Trevi, this stands out as a noteworthy option for a good meal.
We were lucky to get a table without a reservation--seems it's easier to snag one inside than outside. The Tuscan food was delicious overall. The bread was okay; I've had better focaccia, but the fresh, made-to-order pastas were absolutely scrumptious. The wine paired nicely with the meal. We were too full for dessert, but they brought out complimentary biscotti, which was just the right amount of sweet. Service was prompt and attentive. If you're in the Trevi area, it's definitely worth checking out!
We stopped by for lunch after walking tour of Rome. We decided to eat inside as there was pretty much no tables available outside and there was a possibility of a rain - and I was very happy about this as ambiance was great and I had a pleasure looking at wine bottles while eating :). I had a wonderful glass of Vermentino with my meal. I had gorgonzola pear salad as my lunch dish, and it was delicious. Everybody else had pizzas and they were superb - thin crust, perfectly charred and delicious, including mortadella pizza. Excellent service - prompt, friendly, attentive. Highly recommended.
It was alright. Out of all the places around the Trevi area of Rome, this is probably the most legit. So many spots are straight up tourist traps charging astronomical prices for mediocre "Italian" food. Il Chianti is good. It's a little more expensive but at least it's good. There was a line outside when we arrived but it moved quickly. We were seated on the patio and service was fairly quick. We got the prosciutto e melone to share. The melon was so tender and juicy. The prosciutto wasn't the best ever but the flavors still went nicely together. I got the cacio e pepe and it was yummy. The spaghetti noodles are very thick. This surprised us. Is it a Roman thing? Not sure, the other places we ate in Rome didn't have spaghetti like that. My sister, who had been spoiled by Bolognese cuisine for the past six months, wasn't very impressed with her food. Overall, we felt everything was just pretty good. We would've stayed for dessert had there not been a man sitting right next to us blowing cigarette smoke straight into my face while we were eating. When in Rome, I guess...
We had such a lovely dinner here after a one hour wait (this place was very popular, highly recommend making reservations). We were sat outside and were served by Elida. The ambience was intimate and inviting, somewhat casual. We ordered the filet and almond roasted chicken. One of the best chicken breast, I have ever had. It was juicy, tender and full of flavor. My husband and I are both lactose intolerant and there were very accommodating. Unfortunately I don't have pictures of the main dishes just the dessert.
My husband and I ordered the same meals, chicken and salad, both were absolutely delicious. The service was excellent and the ambiance was charming and cheerful. I highly recommend this wonderful restaurant.

Food was great Wine was great Service is great Nice clean establishment Pizza was napoletana, which can be a little to soggy in the middle for m but this one was not. Eat it!
So based on Yelp we picked this spot out of many options in the area that all seemed catered to tourists aka mediocre. Perhaps we caught them at the end of the night, we sat down at 11pm on Wed night, the outdoor area was packed, and were told - very nicely - that we had a few min to order pasta or meat dishes. So we ordered the pappardelle with boar ragout and the beef medallions. The pappardelle was quite good EXCEPT what inspired me to write this review... there were full black peppercorns (!) throughout the dish. Which just makes no sense. Have eaten this dish many times in many places (including all over Tuscany), never once had the dish bombed by such a strong counter flavor. . (We picked them out best as we could and ate the pasta somehow as it was good...yet I just can't forgive them 'corns!!) The beef medallions were totally ordinary and forgettable. Great wine selection helped. Our waiter was friendly and on point. FWIW the pizzas we saw looked (much) better. I just wish the Yelp rating was closer to 3-3.5 stars so I could go back in time and pick another place. ;)
Had an amazing dinner here. I thought it would be touristy since it was so close to Trevi Fountain, and while it was certainly a popular place for tourists, it was some of the best food we had on our trip. We started with the cheese and jam. It was similar to a Brie, but with a different taste. It was really good. The truffle pasta was delicious and the spinach and ricotta raviolis were out of this world. Service was great as well. Overall really great meal!
Such a disappointment. We expected pasta and pizza in Rome to be amazing almost anywhere... especially somewhere with 4.5 Yelp stars. But this was a huge mistake. We arrived at 11.40 and were 2nd in line... minus being cutoff by a horribly rude French woman and her husband... we were excited to grab a table outside a little after 12.00. We were then completely ignored. It took 12.20 until someone asked us for our drink + appetizer order and another 10 minutes for the drinks to arrive and another 40 minutes for the cold cheese/meats to arrive. Other tables completed their meals before we could even order our entrees. When we did order 2 pasta dishes and a bacon pizza it took another 50 minutes to be delivered. And it was awful. The pizza was shredded cheese and strips of undercooked bacon. There was absolutely no color on the crust. The pasta had no flavor. Traveled 3000 miles expecting amazing and instead had the worse meal of the whole trip.
Although we didn't have a reservation we got a table right away outside. The restaurant has a nice ambiance, clean and chic. Perfect location!! I had the pasta, it was okay but it lacked a little flavor. The pizza was good, better than the pasta. I don't think we will be back.

Authentic Italian Cuisine! Ordered the Wild Boar ragu with pasta! Buffalo Mozzarella with tomato! And topped it off with some local Vino.... Sooo good read more

Came here for a quick bite after seeing the Trevi Fountain at night. We hadn't made reservations for dinner since it was our first night in Rome, and we wanted to see how tired we felt from a full day of travel and sight-seeing. Spot didn't disappoint, though with better planning, I'm sure you could find great restaurants elsewhere in the area too. read more

This was our first meal in Italy and it did not disappoint. After a long day of walking along the Spanish steps and past the Trevi Fountain, we stopped here for lunch. The bread was delicious when dipped in olive oil with pepper and balsamic. We ordered a mixed salad which was good. The best part was the entree. I ordered a pumpkin ravioli with butter sauce and sage. My husband ordered the home made paccheri and said it was delicious! The service was wonderful- they were very attentive. I would go sooner than later as the crowd tends to expand the later you wait. If the weather is mild temperature, I would sit outside and soak in the Italian atmosphere. Very meh - Pretty disappointed for a 4.5 star Yelp rating. Our first night in Rome, we waited in line at this restaurant for about 25 minutes on a Thursday night. Sat outside which was fine, they had heaters and even blankets (did not use the blanket) so it was comfortable. Ordered the carbonara and beef raviolis. A salad with pears and Gorgonzola and a bottle of Pinot Grigio to start. The bread was awful. Service was very basic, order takers and deliverers if that makes any sense. The food wasn't terrible, it was very average. Maybe my expectations of Italian food in Rome were too high. We just got to Rome from Venice and the food quality and service differences are pretty stark so far. Here's hoping things turn up for our time in Rome. read more

Our meal at Il Chianti was so wonderful, we went back again! Servers were attentive, personable and offered fantastic food and wine-pairing recommendations. Both nights we were seated at a lovely outdoor table, away from the street's hustle and bustle. Everything we ate and drank was a delight! Our favorites: baked tomino cheese with fig spread--amazing, the best carbonara we had while in Italy, impeccable lamb chops, and the puff pastry with mascarpone and strawberries was a happy ending! read more

Decent place in a high tourist area. We got there about 7:20 and were able to get in without a reservation. BF and I had the tomato and mozzarella as an appetizer- it was a 10! We each had a pasta course - mine was with mushrooms and tomatoes, his was carbonara. We ended up switching but both were good. BF thought neither dish was al debate, but other than that was good. We spilt a salad after that because were still full from our pizza lunch! Add in a bottle of wine and all was good. When we clean out the line here probably exceeded an hour. While I thought it was a good restaurant, I would not wait that long. read more

This place was wonderful! Staff was nice and super helpful. Food was delicious, dessert amazing, and wonderful variety of wine. Right around the corner from the Trevi Fountain, there is normally a line but it moves quickly and is absolutely worth it. read more
I wish we had eaten here one more time. We stayed in the small hotel right next to this restaurant. It opened at 11 or so but the kitchen didn't start cooking till 1115 which we were warned about prior to being seated. That was definitely appreciated. We were given time to review the menu and order drinks. Everything looked delicious but my husband and I wanted something on the smaller side. We had a caprese salad and shared a pizza. The pizza was so thin and amazing! It tasted so fresh!! I think I could've eaten the whole thing myself. I wish we had ordered a pasta also since those looked so great too. read more

Amazing food, service & vibes! We had the focaccia bread, the beef fillet and the fettuccini Il chianti with an insalata mixta that was deliciously fresh! The house red wine was divine! Come here but be ready to stand in line for a table. Highly recommend! read more

Ahhh, Il Chianti! This place is what Italian dining dreams are made of! Though it's in a busy, wild street close to the Trevi Fountain, this place is no tourist trap. The food is legitimately great -- my wife and I split a prosciutto pizza and the Chianti insalatone (basically, a really big salad), and both were fantastic. The wine selection, as expected for a place with a name like this, was superb. The service was friendly and helpful, and though our waiter only spoke a bit of English, he tried his best to explain things to us. The price, while not cheap, is very reasonable for the quality of food. Best part of all? The beautiful outdoor patio, where you can enjoy all the deliciousness I mentioned above. read more

I was a little nervous to go here since it was so close to such a touristy area(Trevi fountain) but it was AMAZING! our server Paola was on top of it she got us everything we needed and was extremely kind and polite! the food was fantastic and i would definitely go here again! the place was busy but the wait was short and totally worth it! read more

We loved this restaurant while in Rome that we went back the following night. It's very easy to make a reservation via email and we were seated within 2 minutes when we got there. The staff were all very nice and the food was just delicious! I mean really delicious! I hope to come back soon. read more

Giving it 3 1/2 stars. Having it been highly recommended by a friend, I was looking forward to trying Il Chianti while in Rome. Arrived half-past 18:00, although the dinner menu wasn't ready until 19:00. In the meantime, I ordered meat cold-cuts (like charcuterie) with my family, which unfortunately didn't look very presentable, as it was literally placed on a normal dinner plate and served to us. Meats were okay, although portions for four people were small. We ordered dinner, and we got veal rolls and fettuccine with porcini mushrooms to share. Veal rolls were tiny, but the truffle sauce with it was divine. Fettuccine was okay, although it was served lukewarm. Service was slow, albeit it was busy that evening. Prices were rather steep, but I found the dishes only to be mediocre. However, it's a good place for couples to eat and it's conveniently located near the Trevi Fountain. read more

A classic Italian restaurant with all the charms. Our waiter, Ahmad, was sensational. The truffle pasta was very good--but it's tough to screw up anything doused in truffles and truffle oil. The pasta fagioli was the surprise hit of the meal. read more

Fabulous for our 20th anniversary dinner! Great location. Wonderful atmosphere. Staff did an excellent job. Food was A+++. I had the "BRAISED BEEF WITH BRUNELLO WINE AND GRILLED POTATOES". My wife had the "MEATBALLS STEWED IN TOMATO AND PEAS SAUCE RECOMMENDED BY OUR CHEF". They were excellent. We had a bottle of Prosecco to go with the meal. It was raining, so we sat inside and the lower level. The atmosphere was so perfect. My wife absolutely loves it. Can't recommend it enough! read more
