Stopping by here with two of my kids after a day of tubing on the Delaware River, we ordered the sicilian pizza and were instantly amazed at how delicious it was. The ratio of sauce to cheese was perfection, with the sauce offering a robust tomato flavor without the sweetness of commercially produced versions. The crust was perfect: not too thick (or doughy) and not too thin (or wimpy). We ate our fill and marveled at how it hit the spot and made it a point to come back the next time we were in the area. Situated on Route 97, the ambiance of trees in full bloom could hardly have been nicer. The service wasn't the fastest, but it was definitely worth the wait. We'll be back! read more

Wanted to thank the owner Pete and his family and workers for at the last minute providing me with a large catering order for a business meeting and having it ready a half hour before the restaurant opened. Truly amazing understanding service. Linda Kenney Baden read more

Best, most authentic Italian food in a 30 mile radius. Hidden gem on the Delaware. Service is amazing, food is second to none. Thank you, Il Castello for being there and being consistently delicious. read more

Unfortunately our meal was terrible. Pizza was undercooked, meatballs meh. The worst was the chicken wings, dry, you know how it gets wooden, at least day old. The main room is spacious and the outdoor seating nice. Not busy for an end of summer Friday night. Waitress attitude and scowl tantamount to our feeling of unease. Greeter was very pleasant, amiable. Maybe just a bad night but if you don't feel welcome why go back!? read more

Service was great and food is amazing! Can't go wrong here. The pizza is better than NYC pizza and in a lovely setting

Not a bad place! Very nice owners! However their rices are way too high. Their food is about a 5 of 10. They seem to be overworked and tired. I regularly order food from here, but the quality is hot or miss, unfortunately. The taste of the food could use a little pizazz too, as it's not up to Italian quality standards. read more

Solid pizza place. Big portions and bonus points for lots of toppings on the Il Castello special. Lots of folks coming in for takeout orders. We sat down as a party of 4 at 12noon on a Thursday. One waitress/hostess/cashier was taking all the orders but she made time to check in on us and bring us everything we needed. read more

Yet another crap dining experience in the Poconos. The person who opens a decent restaurant in this area will become a millionaire. The fam ended up here last night after our initial dining plans didn't work out. First thing you notice is chaos: there's a ton of people waiting in the front area for to-go pizzas. After we managed to mosey into the dining space there is one--ONE--waitress for the entire restaurant who is serving, bussing, running, etc. Her greeting to us was "No menu. Only pizzas." We're like OK, OK, no problem, and then ten seconds after she flies away, she comes back to serve the table next to us calamari, soup, and what looked to be stuffed mushrooms. ???!?!?????!?!!?? When she comes to take our order, we ask about the radical non-pizza dishes going out and she clarifies that we can get apps. Fine. So we order calamari and a pizza. The calamari is not as bad as we expected but it had a strong fish smell and we do not even want to think of what frozen food giant it came from. The pizza took FOREVER to come out, like close to 45 minutes, and let us assure you that it was not worth the wait. It was bland, chalky, and overly doughy with canned mushrooms and suspicious sausage. We all ate it like a bunch of backwood fatties since we were hungry, but it did not feel good afterward. Not sure why this place was the hottest spot in town on a Friday night, but we're guessing that it has something to do with it being the only spot in town. Call us city snobs, no problem, but there was absolutely NOTHING positive to say about "Il Castello" (LOL, more like castle of pizza hell!). read more

Pizza places usually make good cheesesteaks. The one I had here was one of the best cheesesteaks I've ever had in my life... and it was huge. I ate the whole thing and barely touched my cheese fries because I was stuffed! I'll have to go back and try the pizza some time, if I'm not at the cardiologist haha. read more

Kids ordered pizza, which was alright, nothing so special about it. My husband and I shared Clam Marinara, the portion was huge (typical American style), the Clam was sandy and chewy, the sauce was made with canned tomatoes and fried garlic, nothing to rave about. But what made us write this review is the Tiramisu. Because we have had fake Tiramisu from many places, so we asked if it is made with real ladies fingers and made sure it is not sponge cake. The waitress, with her strong Italian accent said definitely lady fingers, it is made in the house, with real Mascarpone cheese. The moment she walked to our table with Tiramisu approaching, I could see clearly it is the yellow sponge cake staring at me. I had a bite to see if it is even real mascarpone. Nothing about this dessert is Tiramisu, no coffee taste. Just another chocolate/vanilla sponge cake. Then the waitress came with the check, we asked her again and she said it is lady fingers. She even asked her brother, owner of the restaurant, he yelled out from the back yes it is. We felt very disappointed, they didn't have to lie. We didn't want to argue about this in front of our children. No integrity. Service was ok, the waitresses looked burnt out, she walked like a zombie when she came to our table. Ambiance was ok. Music was terrible. Not going back! read more

Very good meat lovers pizza. Very juicy. Very good. Staff is great & friendly. All there food is really good.

Me and my mother went to IL Castello because of the great reviews. The ambience was great and great service as well. The salad was delicious. However, the linguine with red clam sauce was salty. My mother did not finish her meal. It's been three hours since I finished lunch and my mouth is salty. I tried drinking coffee and tea but still my taste buds are salty. Stacy read more

Not sure if it was an off night for this restaurant. But everything but the salad bar was gross. I got eggplant Parmesan and it tasted old and really disgusting. Kids got penne vodka which had big pieces of bacon or ham in it in the sauce with mushy penne. Another kid got fried vegetables app, it was disgusting fried a few times which made a bunch of the veggies black. My husband got a chicken ceaser wrap which had tomato and stringy bacon that was the complete opposite of crispy. The service was slow slow slow. And waitress not very friendly. She didn't ask us how anything was and didn't mention anything when all The dishes were pretty full as she was handing us the check. We pass this restaurant a couple of times a month but will never return. read more

I ordered eggplant rollatini and it came with pasta, salad, and humongous Italian bread. The rollatini was good, included spinach which I like. As soon I got there to pick up, the food was ready. The service was excellent and super friendly. I appreciate that the food serve through the window to maintain social distancing, and only two people at the time can be in the pick up area. Thank you for requiring masks. I highly recommend this place! read more

For people not familiar with the westernmost end of Sullivan county, Barryville is halfway between Port Jervis and Callicoon. There are numerous small towns along the Upper Delaware river. Barryville is an odd one. Located at an important intersection of Route 97 and Route 55, and at a bridge connecting PA and NY, Barryville flanks both sides of Route 97, lacking the traditional downtown or town square so prevalent in Catskill communities. Because of that, it's hard to get a bead on the town's spirit, which is there, but you have to know where to go. It is small by even Sullivan county standards, but has become a hotbed of activity for second homeowners, artists and patrons of the arts from northern NJ and NYC. Il Castello is not going to set the world on fire for its cuisine, but it provides a sorely needed dining option in an area where not only are places few and far between, they are also usually pretty mediocre. Traditional red-sauce Italian specialties are offered alongside pretty darn good pizza, which they churn out like speed demons on weekends. Whatever you do, don't come on Friday night when you get up here for the weekend. It's one of the few affordable, tasty and casual restaurants in the area, and people line up three deep at the counter to place takeout orders or to pick up the ones they phoned in. There are bears up here...no, they don't deliver. The calzones are particularly good, with most eggplant dishes up there as well. Pizza is hot, fresh and very well done. They are great at accomodating kids, and have a huge beer selection with some nice surprises. Steamed broccoli comes with a ton of garlic. Yum. I want to emphasize the remoteness of this location. This is the country. Not the suburbs. The country. The fact that a pizzeria of this caliber exists here at all, much less is this good, is a real blessing. read more

Mother Nature couldn't have picked a better place for our car to break down late on a stormy eve. We quickly forgot about our dilemma - stuck in a cell reception void in the darkened woods - after entering the aromatic surroundings. Hailing from Philly, and having a pretty good sense of the local culinary highlights, I was shocked that a place like this had been kept from my radar for so long. I blame the in-laws for keeping me from this dough, this sauce, this four-cheese masterpiece of pizza. And the staff couldn't have been friendlier for these broken spirits. read more

Food is halfway decent. They are good for pizza and quick foods. However, there dinners are lacking. Had chicken franciase and it was not good at all. Sauce had no flavor and was a weird. Also the wait is insane. When the place is busy the staff is very scatter brained and unorganized. Could use better system of taking orders and checking people out. Not very much room in restaurant either. read more

Was camping near by and got a pepperoni pie for lunch. It was ok, nothing amazing...basic cheap pizza. The large pie was huge, 8 big slices, cost about $16. Inside is a sit down Italian restaurant had an extensive non-pizza menu, even a salad bar. Place was empty when we went but it's a small sleepy town so. The lady who took my order was nice and helpful. read more

For a group of 9 guys hungry after a full day of camping and tubing at nearby Kitattiny campgrounds, we decided to stop by this place for dinner on a Sunday around 5 o'clock. It started to get busy only halfway through our meal, but the atmosphere was very calm and the decor was rustic Italian. We ordered appetizers (four orders of garlic knots, fried jalapeno cheese ravioli, calamari, and a large salad) and three large pizzas (pesto, grandma, and buffalo chicken), and everything was delicious. The garlic knots were decent and I didn't try the salad. The calamari seemed a little tough, and the fried jalapeno ravioli, as good as it sounded, was a little underwhelming (more like breaded and fried cheese ravioli with some jalapeno bits in them). However, the pizzas were delicious. The buffalo chicken pizza came out first, and we each devoured a slice (for those of you counting at home, one person was a vegetarian so it was exactly 8 slices for 8 people). There were little pools of buffalo chicken oil that weren't overly greasy at all, it just enhanced the flavors. The pesto pizza could have had more veggies but the bread tasted of the perfect amount of butter. Lastly, the grandma pizza (contains anchovies) had just enough toppings not to be too salty (as anchovies can do). This place was as good as it gets! (or as good as I expected to get in a town that seemingly had a population of 1000) read more

This place is actually quite nice inside, not the typical booth style pizzeria. Think casual rustic Italian. Excellent, hefty pizza and an amazing Stromboli loaded with Italian meats and peppers and onions. Other entrees are pretty good as well but have ordered pizza 9 times out of 10. There is a decent salad bar too. read more

I don't know why this place has 2 yelp profiles. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place. Besides how this place is horribly over priced, it is gross. Went camping and came here for some pizza. I ordered a buffalo chicken slice and they said they were out so they poured buffalo sauce on top of a chicken parm slice (w.e I can deal with that). What grossed me out was how the woman behind the counter picked up the slice with her BARE HANDS and DRAGGED it across the bottom of the plastic area it was in and ACROSS THE COUNTER. Nasty. Stay away from here. read more

Pizza was okay, our waitress was kind of rude. I was looking forward to the stuffed mushrooms, excitedly expecting stuffing made of chopped mushroom stems, garlic, spinach, maybe some romano or locatelli cheese, a little bread crumbs, and olive oil drizzle. Instead, we got mushrooms stuffed with only breadcrumbs and drenched with butter. They melted mozzarella on them which was nice, but omg. tooooo muchhhh buttahhhh! Calzone was tasty but not stuffed with enough ricotta. read more

I stop here once a year right before a canoe trip. It's more of a tradition then due to the food itself. Pizza is nothing special. They do have a nice variety though. Staff can get a little impatient. Interior is nice. Overall, if you just need a quick bite, you could do worse. Also, it's a pretty remote area. Not sure if anything better is actually around. read more

This is a good local pizzeria. Great service. Good, friendly people. Excellent pizza. Mediocre salad bar. The owner, an original Italian, is going to retire in the near future and the place is up for sale. We'll miss it. But when you're in Barryville, dine there. read more

The food is okay. Considering it's the only pizza place around here. The females that work at the counter are always rude. I had actually told one of them they were being rude and they told me I could leave. They're pizza is nothing special but it's not bad either. I always order in and leave as fast as possible so I don't have to deal with the rude females working at the counter. read more
