I was greeted by a friendly bartender and quickly served a cold beverage. I looked around the bar at all the yummy bbq. The smells and the happy faces got me hooked so I order the ribs 1/2 rack. Wow they were juicy and tender and just the right amount of smoke, No regrets here!! I had a few cold beverages and finished up my ribs. Had some great conversations with the patrons around me and really felt at home. I'll definitely be back here!!!

Couldn't fit in my mouth. I ordered rare and it came rare BUT without drippy blood. It was cooked absolutely perfect for my palate. Super delicious, excellent excellent service - friendly and attentive. The waitress told us the meat is freshly prepared from the restaurant and I can really attest to that! I am a real burger aficionado having traveled all around the country sampling great eats and the Outposts nails it 100%. There was live music here on the Friday night with a loaded and lively crowd, we bumped into this place coming back from an ATV ride. This being on the main drag on Rt. 97 but for us in the absolute middle of nowhere. Other than going rafting or a drive up Hawks Nest this is NOW our monthly destination to get to die for burgers.

I don't know what kind of cheese they used, but it was creamy and cheesy. The shrimp was really fresh. We arrived about an hour before they closed and were served promptly. The staff was very nice our waitress was really pleasant. I would absolutely dine here again and would be willing to try anything off the menu.

Lettuce in the Caesar salad was wimpy and bright yellow; no green leaves. Should have been served already tossed with a better dressing and shaved Parmesan cheese used. It was an over priced diner salad($8). House salad looked a little better. Meatballs appetizer looked unappealing; no sure how they tasted and again over priced. Lobster ravioli seemed to be enjoyed by friends that ate it. I had Ahi tuna served on top of salty humus and a side of sweet roasted carrots with a few pieces of mixed greens a two cherry tomatoes( not sure what this was about but it was not a good mix with tuna). I asked for broccoli instead but it did not come out with plate but waitress brought a few florets out. The one order of short ribs looked nice and was excellent in taste. It was served on to of garlic mash that were not that tastey and grey looking; not fluffy. Rolls were served with a sweet butter; not sure if it was supposed to be a honey type but it just was very sweet. The cordon blue was a breast stuffed and deep fried-looked just worst than a diner. The meteranean chicken was similar a fried breast stuffed with 'stuff' with greasy risotto This should have been a healthy dish ; I do not recommend. Waitress said all desserts were homemade. The cheesecake was good. The coffee was really good and turned out to be Maxwell house brewed in a Mr. Coffee machine. I won't come back here. Plate presentation needs improvement and side dishes as well. We were all looking for some chicken wings there which we remember from the old days. Good efforts but the prices charged do not match the quality and presentation of you get. I was expecting more and coming from New York City ; a lot of improvement in food served is really needed. Good luck!

Her name was Alyssa I believe and we saw her like two or three times the whole time we were there to eat. She took our drink orders, brought them and then disappeared for like 20 minutes, didn't even ask if we were ready to order or if we needed anything within that time. Then she came back to take our food orders, and that was the last time we saw her until we were done with our food and she drive-by style asked how our food was. Then brought our checks another 10-15 minutes after seeing we finished our food. I finally get the check and see on the bill that she charged me for swapping fries for onion rings; even though when I asked her if it would be extra to swap them, she told me no. When I asked her about it she was pretty rude and defensive saying she never recalled saying there was no extra charge even though the whole table did in fact hear her say it wouldn't be extra. Then she walked away with the checks and didn't take the extra charge off the bill. Her not coming to the table throughout the meal, fine, I'll find someone else and ask them for what I need, but the fact that she was rude about the miscommunication and then didn't even offer to take the charge off the bill ON TOP of that is what really made me mad.

Not only was the kitchen slower than molasses in January, they also don't accept credit cards. Cash only !?!? I know we are just the mountains on western New York, but I'm sure even the Beverly hillbillies would gladly accept credit or zelle or even Venmo these days. Not sure if they were understaffed or if making customers wait 30+ minutes for eggs and pancakes is the norm around these parts. Needless to say Irene's grossly over promises and sadly greatly under delivers. Over medium eggs which could easily pass for hard boiled. Bisquick pancake mix pancakes and Costco has browns more oily than a seagul after swimming in the waters near the Exxon Valdez. Unfortunately the kitchen was not the only downfall. Wait staff so jaded I'm surprised they even decided to show for their shift. Waiting with en empty cup of coffee for over 15 minutes is par here. Unless you are a local in which case your mug gets topped off every 3 minutes. Walking into a diner my standards drop and I'm open to experience the food and service for what it is. With very little expectations I find myself more often than not pleasantly surprised. I'm all for supporting mom and pop local places. But when even the simplest of things are done poorly, it's hard to root for the small guy. In Irene's case they fail to deliver on 2 simple basics of running a "restaurant". Provide mediocre food and bare minimum service. If you come here expecting either my suggestion is to pack a snack and bring the Sunday times. If lucky you might get your food before getting to the weekend section.

I really like Irene's Eldred Diner even though I only eat here 2 times a year when visiting local friends. We usually have around 10 people when we go there for Saturday brunch. They always find a way to accommodate our large group and never get flustered by our very large orders. You would think that with such a large group mistakes would be made with the order, I have to say never once did they get our order wrong. They know how to properly cook eggs and I've never received a burned omelette. They make their own kielbasa at Irene's and I never pass it up. All my friends like their home-fries very well done so when Irene see's us enter she has the cook start burning the potatoes. Coffee is really good and the cup is always kept filled. If you find yourself in Eldred, NY stop into Irene's Diner and have breakfast. They'll be happy to serve it no matter what time you get there.
