Some things I buy here, some things I will spend more on to get better quality. One could certainly spend a whole day in Ikea, and still miss a lot. The swedish names on things are cute and all, but if any of your items are missing their price tags when you get to the register, the cashier has to know the swedish name for the item to be able to look it up in their price book, or they have to call up to the floor to get it. Worst Customer Service! My mom went in and asked for help when it came to putting boxes on top of her cart. She's 50 years old (although age shouldn't matter). One employee told her "I can't shop with you". So she went to another employee, a women. And she spent 30 mins explaining to my mom "we ARE NOT ALLOWED TO HELP YOU that's what keeps the prices so low". My mom was so bother she called for a manager who spent another 30 mins explaining to her why the employees were right. Did she get any help? No! What kind of service is this? You can't help a lady putting items into her cart? You're horrible if this is what you're training you're employees to be like. Disgusting and you will not only hear from me here. read more

The return process really makes me second guess buying anything at all. The process is slow, outdated and the people working the systems are just not the more efficient. OHHHHH where do I even begin...I ventured to this IKEA to buy new furniture for my apartment. I scheduled for same day delivery and headed on home to meet the movers. At 630pm, I received a call saying the delivery truck had broken down and therefore I wouldn't be getting my furniture that day. Well, if this didn't suck enough, the movers were no longer going to be at my apartment and I wouldn't have any help assembling all of my new furniture. The delivery service (which apparently is a third party one) informed me that I could call IKEA customer service and request a new delivery date along with the assembly service. AFTER SITTING ON HOLD FOR ONE HOUR, I was told that I couldn't arrange assembly over the phone and that I had to drive back to the store to set it up. In the amount of time I spent on the phone waiting, I could have driven to Schaumburg. NEXT MORNING, I drove to the store and was informed that the assembly truck leaves at 9am (but the store doesn't open until 10am) and therefore I couldn't get my furniture assembled until THE NEXT DAY. Prior to learning this, they were unable to locate my order because they had spelled my last name wrong (although I spelled it out and it's literally 4 letters long). That evening, I received a text message stating the same order number on my receipt and that the delivery would take place between 11am-3pm the next day. FOLLOWING DAY, I waited around in my apartment all day long and as 3pm approached with no show, I called their customer service. Customer service then informed me that the time frame they had texted me was incorrect along with the order number... The delivery and assembly team arrived around 345. After I received their call that they were here, I got a text message from IKEA stating that the "delivery was delayed". HOW IN THE WORLD CAN A COMPANY THAT MAKES SO MUCH MONEY AND ATTEMPTS TO PRIDE ITS SELF ON EFFICIENCY BE SO UNORGANIZED!? I will probably never shop at IKEA again. Although I love many of their products, their customer service, lack of communication and disorganized manner has been a complete TURN OFF. PS. I love this store! I get so addicted and can easily spend hours and hours here. Even the little cafeteria is good. I love the Swedish meatballs and noodles meal. Everything you need for your home from top to bottom, in and out, is here! All at decent prices. You pay for the level of quality you want! IKEA, I love you! It's like Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory except nothing is edible, nor are there guides that break out into song and dance. But there is a restaurant that offers cheap (free if you buy over $100 of furnishings) food and modern, functional, and efficient furniture. And the employees are nice and try their best to help you find the oddly named items. Like many people, my first impression of IKEA was the instructions are confusing with its universal picture design and lack of written directions that can push any sane person into a fiery rage mixed with shame from being unable to make a simple shelf. In fact, my first piece of furniture, a book shelf, ended up having two flipped shelves because I couldn't understand which side was supposed to face inwards with its all gray shades. (Due to the overly efficient Swedish designs, I was unable to disassemble the mistakes.) However, that didn't stop me from going back to ogle at the various displays and design ideas strewn across the store. My family wanted to remodel the living room and we wanted it to look cool, but not consume our savings. Being fickle people, we decided to go with IKEA because the designs are made so that your furniture can be customized and updated to your preferences. I personally enjoy the progressive, family-oriented ideas found in the children's products. Where else do you find toys like carrot and broccoli plushies that can help your children appreciate vegetables? The toys promote creativity and don't push any brand advertising onto children. Or clean designs that stay fresh for years, yet are able to be mixed and matched as desired? They also have a series of reusable wall stickers called Slatthult, which add an extra touch to your home. They're large and each set has 3-4 sheets of stickers, which costs $9.99 and is a lot cheaper than other stores. The furniture was very easy to assemble (either I got smarter at understanding pictures or they really revamped their instructions) and within a few hours, we transformed our living room! We'll be back to get ideas for the kitchen renovation. The store is a behemoth of a warehouse, and houses a ton of items, so grab a map and prepare to keep your eyes peeled for your desired item(s). It's like a scavenger hunt for adults! Otherwise, it's just nice to browse and imagine building a model home using their large variety of displays for inspiration. I don't think you can really get lost in it because there are signs and info booths everywhere (plus giant arrows on the grounds). IKEA is well-stocked, clean, and organized, so finding items shouldn't be a hassle. Other things I admire are their efficient product designs that reduce waste, use of recycled supplies to make their products, and the low prices. I noticed a lot of reviews about the delivery service sucking, but since my family has a large car, we just made two trips to bring our couch and TV cabinet set home. Because of this, I can't really offer advice about shipping, but because IKEA works with a local, third party company, I don't think you can really give them a negative review for that. There's only so many local options, and if they are of poor quality, IKEA can't be blamed for having to choose from an awful, limited selection. read more

Call me sour grapes, but I hate this store. I've only been there once, but I left so angry I couldn't take it. Yes, it's a personal problem. Regardless, I need to comment. Ikea has everything you could ever want. Need to decorate your house? I don't condone houses that are completely decorated from IKEA (because they look like a catalog) but you can do it there for cheap. There's lots to like about the store. For me though, there's lots to hate. The layout is horrible. Lets say I want hangars on the third floor. I go up, get them. Then I need to go across the store, down an escalator, across the store, down an escalator, and across the store. Yes, the impulse buying must be immense. Regardless, it drove me crazy. Go on a Saturday and it'll be more swamped than food rations in a starving country. Carts will collide and you'll be asking people to move away. It's a good store, really. Absolutely the worst Ikea I've been to. Elevators to get between floors are slow, the cart escalator has been broken every time I've gone, and the cashiers are extremely rude. The first time I was here, I waited in a line for close to 35 minutes and then the cashier closed his lane and I had to move to the back of a different line even though I had gotten in that line when it was open, rather than taking care of the people in the line already and closing it to new people. The second time, the cashier left all my items out of reach so I couldn't bag any of my things and when I asked him to scoot them down, he literally shoved everything, breaking one of my cups and knocking the dirt out of two plants. Really awful service, I'd rather drive out of my way to go to the other location versus deal with the staff here. read more

Review re: IKEA Kitchen Installation & Traemand We have had the worst experience with the kitchen installation. IKEA only offers one vendor and they are a hot mess. DO NOT WORK WITH TRAEMAND, you'll be out of a kitchen for 4x as long as you think. I'm still not back in my home a month after the installation process started. IKEA items will be out of stock. You will have to check the website continuously and drive to IKEA about 10 times before you have the items to even book the installation. Double/triple check the measurements. The Traemand person completely measured wrong - walls, plumbing, all of it. Wrong, wrong. Cover your furniture - they scratch things and do not feel that there should be any compensation. read more

IKEA.. where do i begin? I first visited this place exactly one year ago and my cheap, inner South Asian-ness fell in love. There is SO MUCH stuff here. Furniture, decor, kitchen, dining etc etc. Most of the stuff is moderately priced and you can find whatever style it is you're looking for. The store itself is GINORMOUS. It's a maze trying to get through and there's so many displays of different rooms, most of my time was wasted admiring the different set ups lol. One star is mainly deducted for the lack of help from employees and the dizzying layout. There's no quick and easy exit to get to the place you want to be. Otherwise, love their stuff and prices. I would not visit this location on the weekend cos it will be PACKED. It gets extremely busy, weekdays are far quieter and easier to shop for the things you might need. Parking is also easier as the loading spaces at the front of the store are mostly free when it's not busy. So you're not lugging things across the lot. We are a lot closer to this Schaumburg locations so will be visiting more often for all our home stuff lol but i'm sure people in the city would want a location closer to them. It's IKEA! This place is huge. If you want to look around you may need a few hours to see everything. This place is very popular. The parking lot is always full. While you're looking around why not check out their cafeteria area on the 3rd floor. They have things from $3.99 swedish meatballs to penne pasta and salad. Coffee is only .99¢ with free refills. The coffee is actually pretty good. If you come early you can grab breakfast also. They have $2.99 breakfast specials. Great place to get ideas on how to set up your home/apt/office or whatever. Prices are reasonable. Just be handing with basic tools as you will need to put together some of the items you purchase on your own. One last thing, grab $1 hot dog or ice cream by the check out area before you head out. Pick up some swedish food items too while you're there. If you've never been to an IKEA before you will probably be amazed when you walk in. IKEA is a humongous store filled with staged living places and a giant market place. Growing up IKEA was kind of known as a place to get decent cheap furniture. The type of furniture you would use in a college dorm room or to stage a rental or sale property by making it look modern and contemporary. Today it has gone more mainstream and people realize the savings associated with purchasing flat packed boxes and assembling furniture themselves. Not all IKEA furniture is bad not all of it is great. I would not recommend furnishing your entire house with it either. IKEA is a fun store with great ideas for design and decor. I often visit and spend around $200-400 on knick-knacks or small pieces of furniture. The real value is the ideas I walk out of the store with. read more

Worst retail experience of trying to get a simple pax wardrobe delivered and assembled to getting it removed after 6 visits of failures. In general, - we bought the pax in store for delivery and assembly - 4 visits to get delivered (came damaged 1st time) - once replacement was delivered, installers mentioned they are not allowed to install - 6th visit to remove item, installers said they cannot disassemble, so I had to do myself - spent approx. 12 hours on customer service - twice delivery/installers did not show up to appointment Will never shop at ikea again. read more

IKEA - Hmm hanging out??? - Home Decor Near Me - Schaumburg, Illinois

I am giving 2 stars simply because this is a standard Ikea, with the usual merchandise. The furniture is cheap, and lasts for a year or two like you would hope. But that's where the acceptable mediocrity ends. First, you have to fight 1-2hrs of ORD traffic to get here from Chicago. Not their fault, but not ideal, either. Second, and most important, their business practices are appalling. I purchased cabinets from this location (no small sum), and was told multiple times that the free delivery was the way to go. As I should have known from existing reviews, the delivery never showed, and no notification was given (after I had taken off of work to receive it). Unfortunately my contractor was coming to install the cabinets, so I had to drive out the pick up the cabinets directly from Ikea. Upon arrival, I was told that I would have to purchase a second set of cabinets, and wait to be refunded for the original order. Faced with no choice but to max out my cards, I did, comforted by the promise that I would receive the refund in "2-5 business days". That was ~40 days ago. Those who have called Ikea customer service will know that ~50% of the time there is no answer. If you are lucky enough to get through, my average wait time has been 45 minutes. After all of that, I get the same response each time: "we don't know why you haven't been refunded, but we're sure that it will eventually happen." End of conversation. I'm beginning to think that this is how they make their profits, and now I'm stretched to the limit as a result of their incompetence. I would strongly recommend using a reputable vendor for kitchens instead. Whatever savings Ikea may offer will be lost many times over. One caveat: the return department employees are great people. They gave me a good-faith rebate when I first came to pick up the order after failed delivery. At this point, however, it's little compensation. read more

One of my most favorite areas is their restaurant and it is great in pricing and quality. This location has a great parking place and easily accessible. Until I went to this location I had never been in an Ikea. I must say that now having been to one it is quite the experience. Up front I have to say I wasn't overly impressed with the layout. If you are a regular there I'm sure that isn't a big deal but for a novice it is not very beginner friendly. It's multilevel but there wasn't anything by the entrance to explain the layout. On the other hand it does have a multitude of interesting items. I wish I had been to an Ikea before I started the remodel on my house because I could have saved some money and got a better looking living space. I like how the place has a restaurant in it and I really like the "as-is" section downstairs as it appears there are some deals to be had there. Dear Ikea, I like you. I actually like you a lot. And I hate the fact that everyone else likes you. It invariably leads to me waiting in line way longer than I want to, but I guess, that is the price to pay for you being so popular. I also like your prices. Even though I end up buying a lot more that I need, that does seem more of a personal problem than yours. Come to think of it, my problem directly benefits you. I also like how you have arrows on the floor directing horde of people navigate through all your inexpensive products. Your cart escalator fascinates me and I could spend hours watching my cart go up and down with me right next to it. Oh, simple pleasures. I haven't had your food yet, but don't worry, now that I live 15 or so miles away, I will have many opportunities to try your cuisine. And yes, I will grade you on presentation, texture, flavor, and obviously, serving proportion. This visit, I got a handful of furniture that included a dresser, TV stand with matching shelves and coffee table, couple of floor lamps and other little items screamed, "PICK ME" as I tried my best to navigate your store. On a side note- I was able to put all of them together without messing up once. Don't worry, I will treat myself to one of your soft serve ice cream. My only issue- not being able to take my cart to my car. Yes, it saves a lot of cars being dinged by runaway carts, but it makes it hard to shop alone. Do I get the car or wait with my purchases? At 36 I've grown tired of assembling my own furniture, but darn it if they don't always have something I can use. My husband had to get a table for work so we made the day trip on Sunday, and wound up with a few things for our house. Is it just me or does everyone wind up buying things they never thought they needed once they're there? Who would have thought I'd need a wok and fake red flowers?? The prices are great, and while most of the furniture is kinda cheap looking (especially the couches) it's a good bargain. We got an entertainment center there about 6 years ago that we love and will probably keep forever. As a new homeowner, I took special notice during this last visit of their model kitchens, and will consider them when we're ready to remodel. It is no secret that I am a fan of IKEA. I have been since my college days. I have visited many IKEAS in the Midwest, and I must say that Schaumburg is my favorite. I find that that it is the largest and best organized. At times I have gone looking for a specific product but after arriving, found it unavailable. They also have a great scratch and dent section. My husband and I have found many "treasures" there. It has an easy access from the freeway, which is important coming from Milwaukee. As a mom I can take my daughter there and know she will have fun as well. There is childcare provided as long as there is room. If you are not comfortable leaving your child in the hands of strangers, you can take him/her with you. Throughout the store there are "playspots" where kids can play. Top that off with kid friendly food, such as mac and cheese for .99 and parents have it made. I know IKEA has been charged with adding to our "throw away" culture. There was an interesting article in the New Yorker this past month about just that. But, I still stand by IKEA. We have moved several times with our IKEA furniture. Most all of it has made it through the moves. It isn't heirloom furniture, but my argument is that my daughter is not going to want my old furniture any way. As far as organization, IKEA understands urban apartments and the need for making space where there isn't. I also am a fan of their clean contemporary style...and one cannot go wrong with the meatball platter in their cafe. :) While you are there, I recommend eating in the cafe. They have affordable and fun food choices. They are most well known for Swedish meatball platter. For 3.99 you get a hearty and filling meal. read more

Ikea serves a great purpose for those who might not be able to afford the good stuff. Not to stay that don't have some high end products but it's a good place to get you started and hey if you don't like, keep it for a little bit then put it on craigslist when you want to get rid of it. They also have a lot of randomn stuff that you tend to accumulate but really dont' need. Plan to spend alot of time in here because there's so much to offer! You can sit on the chairs, lie on the beds and try out everything! I even saw one lady take off her shoes, pull back the covers and get in a bed! So serious... At the entrance they even have pencils, paper, tape measures, store guides, catalogs, shopping bags and strollers. They have a food court here as well. Alot going on... I came here with my 6 year old monkey last weekend and when he saw the place he was struck with awe! A huge smile appeared on his face, accompanied by a very loud "WOW"! But oh no, he was not going to jump on or break ANYTHING in here! Nope, not on my watch, not in this IKEA!!!! They have a supervised kids center where you can drop your kid off for some worry-free fun, not necessarily for them, but for YOU! Mirrors, lighting, picture frames and art decor are all GREAT buys at IKEA. Aside from the furniture, buying items for interior decor is a must at IKEA because you will save so much money on things you will overpay for elsewhere. They carry items of almost every color here too. I came here specifically to find lime green & turquoise decor for my kids bathroom and everything was in stock. I'm planning another trip this weekend with my neighbor to get red and gray decor for my master bathroom and my shopping list is already sitting in my email ready to go! I highly recommend to anyone thinking of going here to checkout the website first and email a list from the website to yourself. The positives: Ikea's cafeteria has some good, reasonably healthy food for a fair price. I go here on my lunchbreak every once in a while and like it. The place has cheap, build it yourself furniture, that's opened the eyes of everyday midwestern Americans to the concept of "design" and that's a good thing. A little Euro influence never hurt anybody. The Negatives: There stuff is cheap- particleboard just doesn't cut it for certain kinds of furniture, does it? So this place does not open the eyes of everyday midwestern Americans to the concept of quality. But some stuff here is OK furniture-wise. The names of some of their products are just plain silly. "Hmm, is that the bookshelf billy you have there?" The place is spread out to make you walk past every single product they have, no matter what!. So it's an Odyssey getting in, up to the top floor, grabbing a coat hanger or whatever, and then down to the checkout- block out an hour on your calender. Schaumburg needs more traffic near the mall!?! Now a convention center!?! Yikes! THE BAD My personal hell is Ikea on a weekend. HELL. It's too crowded, there are tiny humans who have no interest in self-preservation who dart out in front of my cart, throw tantrums and also get in my way. When I do make a trip once a year, and I either go VERY EARLY on a Saturday/Sunday or go on a rare weekday off. If you are getting small items bring your own bag, because I think a large bag costs $1 or so. THE GOOD Their catalog/website make it very easy to get out of here quickly if you do not wish to browse. You can go through their show room, eyeball what you think will look good in your home and pick it up quickly. While there are other furniture stores that will offer you items of similar quality/price, Ikea also has kitchen items, glass ware, silverware, comforters some of which are good quality, so it can save you a trip. Still, I cannot bring myself to come here but once a year or less. Write down where you parked and measure your vehicle before you buy things. read more

I hope this post will serve as more of a "heads up" to naive customers like myself who have only been in a select few IKEA's down south. I do not recommend going alone to this one. Continue reading for why... I walked through the enormous store and found the outdoor patio set I had my eyes set on. Of course everything was laid out very well, and I had no issues whatsoever with product availability or customer service. What I did have a problem with was wheeling my cart outside and being met with a gate around the entire sidewalk. In other words, that's as far as you're allowed to take the cart. I get it that this IKEA is in a much larger populated area than I'm used to, but still. I don't understand why I'm not allowed to carry my cart full of things to my car. Instead, I had to leave my purchased items unattended, run across the parking lot to my car (all while dozens of others are around my left behind items loading their own cars), and hurry back before anything went missing. Moral of the story: have someone stay with you to, at minimum, stand by and watch your things. read more

The crowds aren't as bad as they used to be being that there's another Ikea in the area (which I have yet to go to). Ikea is sort of like Target where you go and you end up buying something. It might actually be something you might need. If you're going to buy a 14 level wooden shelf unit... DO NOT GO ALONE or you will be like em and make multiple trips back and fourth from the aisle of goods to the checkout line to the car. What a pain in the ass. Thankfully, I am quite handy and I have enjoyed the use I've gotten out of dressers, a shelving unit, my wire pantry rack and another wire rack I'm using in an empty closet as a workout clothes/gear area. My toilet's been cleaned by Ikea's cheapy toilet brushes for years. The clock in the kitchen keeps time nicely and my cutting boards have served me - and my countertops - well. The wine glasses are durable enough to have survived my tipsy, wildly gesticulating hands (mostly). The clips I bought for my chip bags perform wonderfully, although I accidentally melted a handful of them once (don't ask) and I didn't cry over their loss. Yes, Ikea is a good place to go wwhen you know you need one or two "big" things, but you're happy to be distracted by any number of smaller, oddball and occasionally genius little things for your home. Now, don't be foolish; attempting to shop at Ikea between about mid-November and mid-January can kill a person. If you're not attempting to navigate upstream nomatter which direction you float, the huge suburban strollers will get you. You think we have it bad here in the city? The strollers here ain't NOTHIN compared to what you'll see out in the heart of suburban mall area. So watch your toes. And save your allen wrenches. read more

Everyone knows that you don't have to tell me twice to go to IKEA. I will go into every little room, sit on every bed and touch all the linens. I walk around IKEA quite erratically and drop random items in my cart. I could live here. Based on the previous reviews, people often get lost at IKEA. This is impossible if you walk in the intended direction: counterclockwise. And it also helps to bring a map. The bathrooms are disappointing. It would be more suitable if they were furnished with IKEA stuff, but they are just big, plain, blah and kind of gross on the weekends. Checkouts and returns are tedious. If you need to return something, bring a magazine to read. It takes forever even on a weeknight. An important thing to remember is to prepare yourself before you go. If you are looking for a place to pick up a couple of things, check out and take them home, you may wanna try Target. In order to truly enjoy IKEA, you must prepare yourself with the right mindset, namely, an expectation that you will be there all day. read more

Not my first time at an ikea store but this one didn't make me as happy as the one in Atlanta. I went in for some led lights (Ramsta) and they were out of stock. Complete bummer and when I looked for other alternatives they were out of stock as well. I must say I have been trying to find a skyline of Chicago and I finally found one at this store! That did make the hour drive worth while. Okay so for the food everyone praises Ikea for their Swedish meatballs. I am not praising... I tried their chicken meatballs and my cousin had the regular Swedish meatballs. Bland bland and bland is all I can say. We even tried the gravy and that was a waste as well. I didn't try anything else at the little cafeteria area but the desserts looked good. I personally would just shop and wait to eat elsewhere. If your in the area stop by if you want to do a little interior decorating shopping. Definitely not as busy as some I've been in so that was positive. read more

There are just some things that Ikea does well. While we stopped by here to get ideas for the kids' room, my son was able to rampage around in their kiddie playground area which was great. Also, the food court is definitely affordable eats for the whole family with their Swedish meatball plate (Swedish meatballs, mashed potatoes and some lingonberries) for only $3.99 or a kid's plate for only $2.49 which includes milk and a side dish, too. There were several kids options from mac n cheese, chicken tenders, pb&j sandwich, and some more. Or if you can wait until the checkout line, they have 2 hot dogs, chips and a drink for only $2 or just one hot dog for 50 cents. It's definitely a must stop by place for those who are looking to furnish a place cheaply but decent quality or the soon to be college students trying to furnish their first apartment. read more
