So I've dined at other IHOPS before but, never had Me and my wife been asked by a passing waitress; have been helped ?? May I help you and she wasn't even our waitress. When my wife finally responded yes this table is dirty they just sat us hear. Waitress responded by saying " oh they will be there shorty". I was just flabbergasted who does that , you ask may I help you because you are apparently going to help the guests. Then through the whole time we ate our breakfast I noticed she kept on passing by very flirtatious towards me, like wanting me to notice her. Believe me will definitely NOT be eating there again. Atmosphere superb! Customer service spot on !!! Our server Michael Q an absolute pleasure ... The pancakes were fluffy, smothered in creamy butter. I if course tried all four syrups; strawberry , butter pecan , blueberry , and old fashion . The butter pecan won me over .. You know, being from Tulare, I've dined at this location more than a few times. The service has always been decent. But judging by the so-called "service" we received on this morning, I thought I'd caught them on an off-day. That is, until I read other reviews on this page that echo many of the same complaints I'm about to share. My boyfriend and I hadn't been out in awhile, so he decided to take me to breakfast. Inside the lobby, we were greeted....by no-one. It finally took us waving down one of the bus boys before we were seated. So we sit down at our table (yay, it was a booth!) and begin going over the menu. After a few minutes, our server (a girl whose name I won't mention, as I do not want to be responsible for someone losing their job) seemed shocked to see us sitting there. "Has anyone helped you?" Having been a server myself for 4 years, she appeared overwhelmed, and I could sympathize. But I don't like being asked that question because it usually speaks to the type of bad experience we were in for. And unfortunately, I was right. All 3 of us were fluent in English, but the girl acted confused by my asking for bacon to be included inside my egg-white omelet. It was even worse when I asked that there be no melon in my fruit bowl: I simply wanted strawberries, pineapples, and grapes. I am honestly unsure what was so difficult to grasp, especially since she was writing it down. She acknowledged our order and our requests, we thanked her, and my BF jokingly said when she had left, "Watch our order be completely effed up." In spite of my attempt to remain positive, he turned out to be right. From the time we arrived at 9:35 to when we finally received the food at 10:10, it wasn't all that busy. Appeared short-staffed, but that seems to be a theme at budget-friendly restaurants, stores, etc. One woman behind us threatened to leave if her order didn't arrive soon, and another woman actually approached a different server on the floor to help her table. Our food was brought out by yet a different server, and only half arrived. Our original server hadn't bothered to put in my bf's cheeseburger omelet, and guess what? Somehow me explaining during the order that I didn't like melons and preferred a different fruit combo meant that I must have wanted watermelons with a few grapes thrown on top. Cute. Oh, and by the way. After the original server had taken our order, she never once came back. Not. One. Time. Despite us seeing her go in and out of the kitchen multiple times. I literally don't think anyone would have noticed if we would have gotten up and left, it was that bad. The saving grace was the blonde server (the one who brought our food and corrected what she could) apologized for everything and told us that this server had been there for 2.5 months and just wasn't catching on. She was also kind enough without us even expecting it to offer the meal on the house. I know she did her best, (and was trying to pick up all the slack the other server left behind) but I was slightly annoyed that the hash browns I ordered never were brought back to the table after I asked that they be made crispier. Oh, and my fruit bowl was never corrected. But hey, at least the food we DID receive was good. I do wonder what's going on with this store. I hope that the store manager, Scott (whose name I WILL mention because I think he ought to be ashamed of the job that's NOT being done at his store and held accountable for who he brings on board) will read this and use it as the constructive criticism it's meant to be. Screen your servers, for goodness sake. The remodel looks very nice, but it's very disappointing to see how far the service has went down since I last dined there. And by the way. Despite me asking to speak with him, Scott was nowhere to be found and I doubt very seriously that he'll ever read this review, much less address the service issues at his store. I don't like being ignored and neither does anyone else. Paying customers deserve better. read more

We came back to this IHOP location, mainly because I love their New York Strawberry Cheesecake Pancakes. The same hostess greeted us and sat us at a booth and gave us our menus. She was sweet as always. This time we only had one waiter. I believe his name was "D.J?" Anyway, he was really nice and he seemed to be in a really good mood. Only mistake is when he brought me an iced tea when I had asked for an iced coffee. No problemo, it sounds the same. He promptly brought out the correct drink. He remembered the lemon slices my husband asked for and most times the waiters/waitresses forget to bring it with his water. D.J came around often, asking if we needed anything. Great waiter and I liked how he got along with his co-workers, making small talk with the hostess. I know some restaurants and retail stores look down on co-workers who "chitchat" but I think it's great when everyone gets along. Makes the atmosphere of the restaurant/store more inviting. The food was better this time. My pancakes tasted really good, not like they were sitting out for awhile (like last time.) Overall, we were satisfied with our food and with the customer service. Wish I knew the hostess' name. She's super nice and almost walked us to the door as she thanked us for stopping by. read more

Quick and friendly service. Food taste great. I love their potato soup it's super yummy! Only down side is all the extra fee's for extra items like for an extra slice of a pickle was 25 cents and 1.99 extra to add strawberries. Other then the extra fee's I would have rate this place a 5. Stopped off at IHOP on our way home from Arizona. The place was not crowded at all and we sat down right away. Placed our order which was a simple breakfast and a side stack of pancakes. We waited over 45 minutes and our food was still not on our table. Again, it was not that crowded at all. A couple of ladies that sat down after us had their food and a gentlemen also had his food that was seated after us. When we asked the waitress what was taking so long she replied that they were short staffed. They had a waitress, a cook, a manager and two busboys that I could see. There was food sitting on the counter to be taken out but instead the manager was just talking to the cook instead of helping the poor waitress who was sweating and hustling. Very disrespectful! We went down the street to Dennys and they had the same staff minus one busboy and they were packed. Two large families, a lot of smaller groups yet everyone had food. We were seated right away, placed our order and our food was on our table in less than 13 minutes after we walked in the door!!! We thanked the crew for their amazing work ethic and my wife tipped the cook $20 and we tipped our waiter well. IHOP take a lesson from Dennys and hire a crew that wants to work instead of standing around and talking while expecting the one woman that was waitressing to do all the work! read more

I was cold and asked if we could move tables and DJ actually adjusted the thermostat, it was so considerate! Service is too slow... I waited a while before anyone was available at the check in counter. Waitress was wondering off to the other side of the restaurant as we tried to order our drinks and then again when we ordered our meals. We waited a very lomg time to receive the check and we had to wave someone down to get a few boxes because our waitress was MIA. And at check out... we waited and waited and waited... two out of three waitress called the waitress who helped us at the table because according to them, only she could close our tab... and she was MIA... again... Breakfast was good but I have had a few items from the lunch and dinner menu and it has always lacked flavor. Passing through Tulare, we stopped by to pick up some pancakes. We ended up ordering more food than we had planned. The food was delivered in a nice pacakging, it was served quick and hot. Bravo! The establishment is very well kept and clean. The service was good. It is located next to La Quinta Hotel. I would have given it a 5 star if it weren't for the loud 50's rock and roll music playing outside, inside, and in the restriom. It drove me crazy. read more

I came here not that long ago with my partner for breakfast . We got seated ordered our drinks and our food. We waited for our food for almost an hour. We noticed that other tables that came in after us were getting their food before us. While waiting for a long time we would ask our waiter about our order and he would reassure us that our food would be ready soon so we waited another 15 minutes. It was 47 minutes since we've been seated and we are told that he had not gotten our food submitted or something and had to take our orders again. My partner was rather irritated and wanted to walk out but I insisted that I wanted crepes. In 10 minutes we had our food. The food was good but i actually did not enjoy my meal and I was holding back my tears as I ate my crepes. Because of this experience I will never trust this tulare IHOP. We did mention it to the cashier and we got a discount. But never again will I return. read more

One of my bad experiences. To start we got seated and nothing was on the table for us (no big deal, they were kinda busy) finally we get our hostess and ordered drinks (still no silverware) got our drinks (still no silverware) asked for some to stir the coffee. Order our food and one plate at a time comes out mine was the last one of course and by this time the person was nearly done with her plate, we didn't see our hostess again until it was time to pay. I have been to many city's and states and I have eaten out a lot this was the first time EVER I was asked for ID to pay for my $50 meal with my credit card, never has this happened in any restaurant. I always arrive at around 9:30ish, and I always get turned away with some excuse that they are closing, even though heir hours are until 10PM. Today I arrived at 9:38 and of coarse, got turned away. On a wet, rainy night in Tulare, we decided that going out away from our motel to find a place to eat was too big a bother. So, we hightailed it across the parking lot to the IHOP. Amusingly, neither of us had pancakes. I had the hambone dinner, with mashed potatoes, corn and cinnamon apples. My friend had the eggs, sausage and hash browns. They food was what you expected at an IHOP, but decent. I was fond of the cinnamon apples. It's a decent standby on a rainy night when you can't be a**ed to run anywhere else. read more

I only saw my server three times during my visit. When he took my order, when he brought it to my table and within 3 minutes of bringing the meal, he brought me the check. After bringing me my check, he disappeared. I had to get my own extra napkins and bring my glass to the register to get it refilled. There were only four other tables with guest sitting at them. I travel a lot for my company and have enjoyed many IHOP restaurants throughout the country. I'm an early riser and IHOP is my hands down go to place for early morning breakfast. Service was ok but pork special was undercooked, bloody. Sent back for a different meal. That food was good. Only apology came from server, who did fine. Cook needs to be fired. Overheard another customer asking for her dinner to be heated up! Really? It had just been served to her. That is a joke. Do not eat here. The service is horrible, the food is warm at best when it finally gets to your table, and the cooks obviously do not wear hair nets. When I got my food, there was hair in my hashbrowns. I did not eat any of it of course, and informed our waiter. He told me to pick up the hair, put it on a napkin, and after I did so he said he would have them re-make it. After I told him I would not be eating, he took the plate away (leaving the hair on the table) and informed the manager. When the manager came to the table, he gave me a coupon for $10 off my next visit. I told him I would not be coming back and asked if we could just use it towards this visit. After some hesitation, he finally agreed. To make matters worse, when it was time to pay for the other 4 meals that had been ordered, they "convienently" changed their policy on discounts for law enforcement officers and refused to add the discount to our bill. read more
