I love IHOP, so it's terribly disappointing that the IHOP in McHenry is so consistently bad. The food is somehow not as tasty as in other IHOPs, and the service is never great. We've given it the benefit of the doubt several times and made the mistake of going there again, only to regret it later. Now we make the drive to the IHOP in Crystal Lake, despite the fact we live in McHenry because that one doesn't disappoint. read more

My husband and I went there for breakfast. I thought how could you go wrong with IHOP......they're everywhere. I was sadly mistaken. It was dirty and smelled bad (i thought the smell was another customer, but when they left, the smell stayed.) The food was substandard and I was ill all afternoon. My husband took some medication that upset his stomach so he did not eat...fortunately! We were sat in the front next to the cash register and all I could hear was the manager and greeter apologizing the whole time, and another customer sent her food back because she found a hair in it. I will never go to this IHOP ever again. This place is a train wreck. read more

The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't much of a fine breakfast either. Our food arrived quite a bit before our drinks, which seamed odd for just being water and coffee. The waitress seamed friendly and busy, but likely didn't have much experience. The real problems started when I tried to pay with a brand new recently acquired gift card. They told me the card had no balance on it. I called customer service and they said the card was empty, but had just been used minutes prior meaning the card was full when it was run, but for some reason their system didn't show the transfer. When the GM came out I explained what customer service told me, but she insisted the card was empty to start. I called customer service again and had them speak to the GM which resolved the issue, but we were quickly assumed to be wrong on the issue. The GM apologized and tried to make amends, but at this point I'm happy with them accepting the gift card and parting ways. Looking at the reviews prior, I don't why I didn't look here first. They have some serious work to do to turn their reputation around. It's not impossible, but I hope the GM starts with finding a way to streamline conflict resolution. I might try again in a while and I'll update this review if they've turned things around, but it'll likely be a long while. read more

So...this place is a waste of money. The food isn't too bad, but the service was horrible especially the manager. I over heard him let a disabled little girl go because "she was not going fast enough" for them. I was offended at the way he treated this girl who couldn't control what she was born with. I will never go there again and I hope that the people reading this will consider the same. read more

Terrible food! The service was OK for what it was. I had the Colorado omelet with hash browns. The beef was totally dry as were the eggs. The hash browns looked disgusting so I don't know how they taste. Waste of time & money. read more

The food is decent, for a chain breakfast restaurant. The service is usually pretty good, some servers are better than others. Good for late night eating after a night at the bar since it's open 24 hours. read more

The waitress with blonde hair and a pixie cut was very disrespectful. She did not hear me out regarding menu options literally EVERY other iHop offers. They were out of avocados, bananas, and "all other fruits", nor did the waitress allow me to take the meat off of my order plus I would have had to pay full price for the half of meal I was getting. Once we heard all of this, I decided to leave the restaurant. My table of 3 had already ordered drinks that were placed on the table, which we did not touch, but I still had to pay for the hot tea and iced tea lemonade. I was about to walk out the door without receiving anything for the $6 I paid, so I decided to go back and grab the unopened bag of chamomile tea that the waitress mispronounced as well. While we were exiting the establishment, she said "I hope you find a better place to eat", as if we weren't aware that iHop was just a quick cheap food place college kids could afford. We are now headed to an iHop that has avocado and a better attitude. This was a truly pathetic experience. read more

Was just here the other day late at night after a long day of work and wanted a quick meal before going home. I first arrived there and had to wait a while cause the server was all the way in the back just sitting on his phone. I believe his name was Alex? And then he decided to sit me really close to the door so it was very cold. He was not attentive or well spoken and not to be rude or anything but he had bad hygiene overall. Made my visit there horrible. You guys need new staff. Last time I came here a fat server took too long to bring me my food and was being rude. read more

Place was less than satisfactory on numerous occasions and it's only gotten worse. As figured, count on super busy weekends, especially Sunday afternoons before and after church... Many times my wife and I have even considered it, it was too busy and we had to seek an alternative. Note: we probably wouldn't if it weren't for the following reasons: 1. The food, much like everywhere else, has gone up in price. This wouldn't be a problem if it weren't for that fact that: 2. The quality of the food is sub par at best. Avoid lunch and dinner items and stick exclusively with breakfast items or you will likely be severely disappointed. Even breakfast is inconsistent. It seems like every time we go the bacon is a different brand, likely due to the fact that their provider ensures a cheaper brand to cut on cost. Sausage links are the same way. 3. Service at night is even more atrocious than their dinner menu. Avoid this place at all costs at night or you will likely be met with some shallow clientele, including obnoxious high schoolers, and even worse servers that chat it up and spend more time texting than serving. My base tip for a waitress is $5.00. If they provide good service, it goes up in dollar increments. However, when bad, or worse, horrible, they will likely receive anywhere from 2.00-3.00 tops, and a note on the receipt copy explaining why they didn't receive a more generous tip, and how to better themselves. 4. Had great coupons for by one meal get one free of equal or lesser value, but there's a catch, or two... They don't accept them on weekends or holidays, and you must by a drink. However, recently, these coupons have all but disappeared, making it even less worth it to pay a visit to the Mchenry IHOP. Summary: if you expect an empty beverage glass while waiting a sometimes obnoxiously long time for you food all whilst the waitress is more occupied by her cell phone only to receive sub standard yet moderately expensive food, this may be the place for you! Last time I wanted to add toast to my meal only to be told it would be a $2 charge. Could have bought two loaves of bread at that rate at the store and had breakfast for the next two weeks! Looking to treat yourself yet stay healthy at the same time? Don't try subbing their "fresh" fruit for hash browns! Another $2.50 charge! Looking for an alternative? Either stay home and eat an affordable breakfast or pay visit to the little chef in Mchenry. Or, take a drive out to Richard walkers pancake house in crystal lake. read more

$2.50 for a single slice of toast!!! This is a complete rip-off. I asked the manager about it and he stated that prices are set by corporate and each IHOP has no control over it. He offered to reduce the slice of toast price by 10% (which would be 25 cents!) I told him to forget it. This was a side order of a slice of toast as my $9.99 veggie omelette did not have the toast as included for the ten bucks. While I sympathize with the local manager, perhaps this will get corporate's attention. read more

The food is very good! I have had the regular pancakes and the Swedish pancakes, both great! The turkey dinner, the chicken crepe, uand the bacon crusted chicken breast dinners are very tasty. I really like the chicken noodle soup. All in all it is a great place to eat! read more

I took my daughter there for a birthday breakfast. We were ignored by the manager when we came in and a senior couple shoved us aside and were seated before us. We sat in a booth. The carpet below us stunk like stinky feet. The omelet I ordered was cold and the pancakes were hard as if they were left over from someone else plate. The food was tasteless. The food is good, service isn't to bad. But the quality of appearance for the waiters/waitresses is horrible. I don't want to have to stare at your bullring nose ring, obnoxious ear gages, black and brown teeth, and yes tattoos are awesome, but not to be shown during work. I ate here for breakfast and I was very disappointed with the pancakes. This is, after all, IHO PANCAKES, you would think they would be really good pancakes, but they tasted like flour and they weren't cooked all the way. The eggs and bacon were okay, and good coffee but I'd never eat their pancakes again. Also, for only myself, breakfast was over $15.00 including tip, two can eat for that price at other restaurants.
