I don't expect anything amazing from chain restaurants like IHOP, but this location in particular has the worst management and service I've ever experienced at any IHOP. Not to mention, their "fancy" pancakes are nothing even close to what they advertise and look more like a kindergarten project! I wish I took a pic of the winter wonderland pancakes from late last year. It was ridiculous. I don't even expect the real thing to look like the advertisement, but it was just a complete joke. me and my family come here every once in a while and every experience has been wonderful. so comforting, cozy, and warm. as much as i'd love for this place to have more business, i prefer the slow & quiet ambiance as the service is more attentive. the food is soo good every time--it never disappoints. and it doesn't take very long to come out either. i love the burgers and sandwiches here, while my sibling is obsessed with their pancakes. there's just so many classic flavors, i have no complaints. all of our waiters / waitresses have been super kind and welcoming. we'll see you guys again! read more

Today's order was especially bad. This was far worse than any cafeteria food I've ever experienced. In fact, meals off the frozen aisle tower over this in terms of flavor and quality. My mother passed away in the early morning and to swallow the grief I decided to wash it down with a large breakfast order from the breakfast people of my town. I ordered takeout and got a T-bone steak and eggs (includes 3 pancakes), biscuit and gravy, a side of sausage and a side with of toast. I wanted to eat my sadness away. I go pick up my order.... Get out to my car and lady runs out and says they forgot the gravy for the biscuit. Cool. Mistakes happen and many thanks for catching it before I left. I got to my destination, opened up my bag and laid out the whole order before me like a feast made for a king. Except no, this feast was made for a complete sucker. Let's start with the side of sausage links... $5.10. Two skinny sausage frozen sausage links. Except one was half gone. So I literally received 1 and a half obviously frozen sausage links for $5.10. Thanks for your quality control IHOP. Next, biscuit and gravy... $5.99. The smallest biscuit you've ever seen cut in half and BURNT. Almost didn't get the gravy! Thanks for rushing out with the gravy but the gravy couldn't help this charred two-piece excrement extravaganza. Thirdly, T-Bone Steak & Eggs (with three buttermilk pancakes) $22.99. Steak was asked medium rare however it was burnt and cooked through as more than well done. The buttermilk pancakes came as advertised except one important component... there was no syrup. WTF? It's called "International House Pancakes" and you can't get one of the main traits of pancakes correct? I'm supposed to eat a dry pancake? This is absolutely preposterous! Who eats a plain pancake? You guys are the pancake people! It's in the freakin' name! I'm so insanely upset about this. The other things were passable I supposed because my expectations were already super low; but no syrup? From The International House Pancakes? This isn't international... this is third-world-country. You guys should be heavily embarrassed! Oh and I got a side of white toast $5.10... the bread is the size and quality of wonderbread. Hey, but at least they included 10 things of jelly for 4 tiny slices! I spent $52 for a pile of unsatisfying BS that was cold the minute it said the order was ready to pick-up. Yet not one syrup? I hate you. Don't go here! I ate here today and my order and my guys order were not as we requested. Brought me out French toast when I ordered Pan Cakes and my eggs were not scrambled soft! Nor was my guys egg order not as requested. No water refills! Had to go to the cashier area to request more water! Paid for our meals and accidentally left my card in the machine. Stayed there at our booth for at least 20 more minutes and this same young lady did not bother to let me know my card was still there! Wow! We don't know her name, but our server was exceptional. My husband and I dined at IHOP yesterday afternoon. We were greeted at the door by an employee who just started her shift. She held the door open for us and with her personal belongings in hand, proceeded to seat us. "Take a seat here, I'll be right with you," she said. My husband and I chatted amongst ourselves about how considerate she was. She could have easily let someone else attend to us or wait on us after she put her belongings down. Her good service did not stop there. She was pleasant, positive, helpful, and patient while my picky husband crafted his own custom and complex order. She checked on us frequently, refilled our drinks, removed used plates, and provided take home boxes timely. We thought her service was great, yet she apologized for being forgetful. Again, we both thought this was the best service we had at an IHOP. Eventually, she revealed her husband just passed and she was in the middle of making arrangements, prior to work. I thought, what a gracious soul. In the middle of a tragedy, she can still serve customers with exceptional service. What an example to so many. The tip we left her could never make a difference. I hope this Yelp review gifts her something more. IHOP, you have an an exceptional employee. I hope you can do something special for her (e.g, bonus time off, bonus check). This is of course a rhetorical question because they're not. Besides the tiny booths the food isn't that great. Have not been here since before the pandemic and the food quality has gone way down hill. Not to mention the terrible service. Saw the waitress three times only. Once to take the order, second to deliver the order, third to bring the bill. Otherwise, they didn't stop by at all. Didn't offer refills for the drink either. Let me say I am so impressed and satisfied by our visit to ihop in Martinez. Darianna was our server and if I could give her a 6/5 I would. So sweet and attentive. Please ask for her and give her a big tip :) we got a hamburger, a chicken sandwich, and some kids items. I have zero complaints about all the food. Everything was hot and crispy and fresh. The only thing was that they didn't have the promised red hot sauce for the tenders and they were out of jalapeño bites. Just told my husband I would absolutely come back in a heartbeat. Not So Fresh at IHOP - Just got back from breakfast at IHOP. Hadn't been to one in over 25 years, We recently got a coupon so we figured we'd give them a try to see if it was any better. The short answer is - NO. I've given it 2 stars because the place was clean and the service was prompt. It's the quality of food and the prices that are out of line. Just about any other place you can go in Martinez for breakfast is cheaper with better/fresher food. I not sure where to start. First off there are big posters posted about how fresh their food is. ALL LIES! The hash browns I had came fresh out of a box. They are dehydrated. You add hot water to a box of freeze-dried shredded potatoes and let them sit for a while before they are fired. They have the taste of onion powder and a strange texture. I even asked our server if she would ask the kitchen if they were dehydrated. I wanted to see if they would lie about it. To their credit I was told that they were in fact dehydrated. Next up - their french toast. It was tough. That's because they had been twice cooked. At some plant the bread it dipped and fried. If eaten then they might be pretty good. BUT - they are then frozen and shipped out to the IHOPs. When you order them, they are placed frozen into a deep fryer, fried and served. The entire process makes them tough and adds a bunch of calories. NOT VERY HEALTHY! The pancakes - what a disappointment. You'd expect a place that specializes in pancakes to have really nice, rich, fluffy pancakes. WRONG. They were flat and bland. Hey guys! Add a little buttermilk and vanilla, and whip some air into them! They'd be a 1000% better. All this wouldn't be too bad if the prices were lower. $14 for pancakes and bacon!! You can get better anyplace in Martinez for half that. And if they weren't already making enough money, selling tasteless pancakes they charged $3.88 for ice tea!!! WOW! Well maybe I'll give them another try in 25 year to see if they get any better. That's if they are still in business. Don't waste your money! Aaron was our server. We had to ask for Silverware, Splenda,water refills, my complete order. Aaron walked by our table noticing I had half my food and didn't stop to ask if I needed something. I spoke to a shift leader she said she said she would the manager know. She did not. She also had to go find the rest of my order. The food was very bland I ended up eating a 25%. I spoke with the manager after having to ask for her. I received $5.00 off. Aaron came up to the register as I was paying and "well they got a discount" implying that should make up for his lack of attention to detail. IHOP Guest Curbside Pickup Instructions: Upon arrival to our restaurants, please park in one of the designated curbside spots, call the restaurant to notify them of your arrival, and wait in your vehicle. One of our phenomenal staff members will bring out your pickup order. My Order was NEVER filled!! when I arrived and spoke with the woman I watched her through the glass window as we were speaking then was told no order was received until I said I ordered online for curbside pickup. I then watched her as she walked to a machine and pulled the ticket then read my order to me. I waited almost 25min for just pancakes(mind you no cars or customers were around except myself!DUH!! I wonder why!!) I called in to check on my order and same woman answered and was told I had to go in to pick up my order and it had been ready for a while! WHAT?!?! Told her per web instructions above and she says "we don't do that you have to get it yourself!" I went inside and not a single customer, server or manager was there! I ordered to go the Belgian chocolate pancakes they sure do love ok tasty in the picture and i love pancakes and chocolate mousse so match made in heaven right? WRONG! As if the pictures of what I got isn't self explanatory enough whatever pudding they are trying to pass off as mousse (by definition mousse is light and airy whatever this pudding is was not at all) they didn't even put between all the pancakes just wasn't good which is really sad because they smell amazing but that's the end of that in terms of food. Terrible customer service. I kept giving this location chances but I just can't anymore. They have no order when it comes to seating and service it's not first come first serve it's wherever they feel like going first. On the most recent visit I watched as tables seated after me were provided drinks and order taken before even offering drinks to my table ever. On previous occasions I even tried drive up to which my food was given to the wrong person, they didn't even ask for a name. & to top it off they are short and rude with patrons. There was also a foul odor coming from the kitchen. Would not recommend. The times have been poorly served my food was cold and soggy after waiting for long periods of time. Went in today for the 58 cent short stack deal. To my surprise there were only 3 other tables with customers. Expected quick service since it was so empty, boy was I wrong! We were seated right away and told the waitress(the only one) that we were waiting for my nephew before we ordered. We asked for 2 glasses of water and waited 15 minutes while she talked to other customers and stood behind the register doing nothing. When we finally got it I asked for straws. I had to ask 5 times before we got them! When my nephew arrived he had the same problem. A man ran off without paying his check and she left the restaurant to follow him leaving people wanting to pay their checks too. Other people were trying to place their orders and she ordered 3 short stacks for one table without even asking what they wanted. Their son wanted a hamburger! After finally getting our check we had to wait 10 minutes to pay it because she was taking other orders. I realize she was alone but she needs to learn to pay attention to her customers, listen to their needs and prioritize. There were a lot of angry people in there today!
