We should have left when we encountered the rude hostess, but we didn't know of any of other breakfast spot close to where we were. She just looked up when I stood at her counter. No hello. No may I help you. Just looked up and stared. She literally closed the door on a family who were trying to help their family member in a wheelchair. She saw them. She called their name for their table and just kept walking back inside letting the door close behind her. Another patron and myself had to hold the door open for them. The restaurant rating is also a bit low. Didn't see that until we were leaving. It was nicely tucked behind the counter. Believe the other reviews, the service is very slow, the food is subpar. Portions are small here. I usually leave IHOP stuffed. I could have ordered something else. The waitress wasn't too nice. Food wasn't warm and it was wrong. The waitress attempted to blame us for the wrong order. No silverware. You are giving small plastic forks. No extra napkins. You have to flag someone down for condiments. Matter of fact we had condiments, she took ours and then rolled her eyes when we asked for it back. Drink refills aren't free. She didn't bother coming back to ask if we wanted more water or anything. Dropped the food off and said pay up front. No ticket to list our items. Sigh... Ok, think I'm officially done with IHOP.

"Banana pancakes"

I knew when I walked in the floor being so sticky I thought my shoes would fall off would be a red flag . Also restaurant was empty in a Sunday afternoon. The food was so bad it was unbelievable the eggs tasted like flour moosh cold and odd the hasbrowns were so old and stale the pancakes raw. FRENCH FRIES WERE STILL FROZEN. I ordered my food and food to go for my daughter who didn't come with us. We didn't eat our food it was so disgusting we paid and left we took a to go order for my daughter ... it was too late to cancel it and this is what it was in the container. We threw it away lol just save your time and health and don't go it's so bad I don't take photos I wanted to get out of there. We paid around $80 for our meal and we didn't eat any of it lol it's so bad but I didn't want to be a Karen. Service was good but the cook kept screaming everytime waiter kept reminding him plates were missing lol

Bread that was suppose to be toast.

Worst service ever. 30 minutes just to get water. Another hour just to get food. It's also extremely dirty.

I am giving it four stars because each time I have gone with friends there is mention of how the restaurant reminds them of segregation in the 60's. It does give a slight boycott vibe that doesn't sit well, and makes me question my support. Have to be honest.

My First Visit to Smithfield's -- And Probably My Last…read more I normally don't take the time to write reviews, but this experience was disappointing enough that I felt I had to share it. While traveling through Burlington, North Carolina, I saw the signs for Smithfield's Chicken 'N Bar-B-Q and decided to give it a try. Since I live in Georgia, where there aren't any Smithfield's locations near me, I thought it would be worth stopping. I ordered the large shrimp platter with coleslaw and potato salad. I assumed the small and large shrimp platters might refer to the size of the shrimp. Nope! The difference is simply the amount of shrimp you get. Lesson learned! I took my order to go, and when I got to my car, I found two cardboard platters in the bag. One had shrimp, fries, hush puppies, and coleslaw. The other had additional shrimp and three more hush puppies. What I didn't find were any napkins or plastic utensils. When you're traveling and taking food to go, those are pretty basic things to include. I also ordered potato salad, but I honestly forgot about it until I was already on the highway heading south to Georgia, so I can't say for certain whether it was missing or whether I simply overlooked it when checking my order. Now, let's talk about the shrimp. You know those tiny little shrimp you sometimes find in shrimp salad at a buffet? That's exactly what these reminded me of! There must have been around 50 of them, although I lost count, and some were ridiculously tiny. They had a little flavor, but they lacked that satisfying shrimp taste you expect when ordering a shrimp platter. The fries weren't something I particularly wanted, since they weren't what I had ordered. The hush puppies were okay, I guess, but they were shaped more like chicken fingers than the hush puppies I was expecting. Overall, this was not the introduction to Smithfield's that I had hoped for. Maybe I should have ordered the chicken instead! If you're specifically looking for shrimp, I honestly think you'd be better off trying Captain D's or even Long John Silver's. Unfortunately, my first visit to Smithfield's will probably be my last. I was looking forward to trying something new while traveling through North Carolina, but I left disappointed. Based on this experience, I wouldn't go out of my way to return.

My husband and I stopped in on a Thursday evening around 7pm and the place was pretty full. We sat ourselves at a table in the back room, and I noticed how laid back the place was, which is something I really appreciate. Sadly, it seemed that the relaxed vibe extended a bit too far and reflected on their cleanliness, as I noticed all of the chair rails were dusty, the floors a bit littered, our table sticky, and the plastic menus in need of replacing. Service, however, was wonderful. Our waitress was friendly and pretty attentive given how busy she was. My husband was happy with their on tap beer selection, deciding on Red Oak ($3 on Thursdays!). I went with a margarita and it wasn't the best, but thankfully I didn't pay much for it since it was also on special. They were out of the southwestern egg rolls I initially ordered, so I ended up going with the Philly cheesesteak and homemade chips. I enjoyed the cheesesteak's fresh bread; plenty of tender meat, peppers, and onions; and gooey cheese. It could have used more mayonnaise, but it was still quite good. The homemade chips were tasty but undercooked; if I had been hungrier, I definitely would have returned them and asked for a fresh batch. My husband absolutely devoured the cheeseburger and fries he ordered. He said that it was one of the best burgers he's had in quite a while, and this is a guy who loves burgers and eats them often. I want to return to Piedmont Ale House in the future. I think there are some things they seem to do really well, namely burgers and beer at really reasonable prices!

Everything was presented well, tasted good, and despite it being later in the evening, nothing about the meal or experience felt rushed or like we were getting the "end of the night" version of anything from them. Our server, Ty, was excellent. Professional, attentive, friendly, and simply good at her job. She stayed on top of everything without being too much, made sure we had what we needed, and helped make the entire experience enjoyable, which meant a lot to her since this was my nephew's first time here. The one area I'd improve is addressing the front door host area. Last night we stood there a bit longer than necessary, waiting for a hostess, before my nephew noticed the sign next to the stand telling guests to find their own seats. Once we saw it, no problem whatsoever. We grabbed a booth and carried on. BUT even better, if there isn't someone dedicated to the hostess stand later in the evening, a quick "Welcome in! Feel free to grab a seat anywhere" from someone nearby or working the bar (about 10-12 feet away from the front door) would immediately make the experience feel more intentional and welcoming. That's a relatively small issue, but it's also the difference between a very good (5-star) experience and a slightly lower one. Overall, good food, great presentation, and excellent service from Ty. She represented Drake's extremely well and absolutely deserves the recognition.
