I know that IHOP has always been expensive in comparison to Denny's and Waffle House and even Cracker Barrel, but holy hell, when did everything become $20 a plate?? (Most items were $18, but once you figure in your tip, that's OVER twenty bucks, fam.) Hubbie and I and a moving buddy spent a long hard day ferrying stuff from our storage unit to our new home and we worked up an appetite. We have a tradition that when we finish, we always go out to Denny's for pancakes to celebrate. Unfortunately, when we arrived at Denny's, there was a sign on the door saying they were closed until 6AM. Disappointed, we decided we'd compromise and hit IHOP instead (even though I've never been an IHOP fan). But good effin' lord, that pricing!! I mean, I appreciate that they were actually open for business, because it was around midnight when we got there. The employees were attentive enough and kind to us (though I also noticed a bunch of them grouped together sitting in plain sight doing nothing for several minutes, which was... eh, I get it cuz having to work the late shift blows ass, but also it's a bad look, like maybe do that in the back instead, lol). Service was actually pretty fast from the time we placed our order to the time our food was set in front of us (other IHOPs have disappointed me in that regard before, so this was a nice change of pace from standard), though it seemed to take a weirdly long time to get us our beverages at the beginning. The place was clean. They were actively mopping the floor in one section that they'd closed off for the late hour since they didn't need as many tables. Even the syrup pourers were clean (at Denny's they definitely would've been sticky, hahaha); I guess it's cool they had like a flight of syrups (four different flavors) but again, these are small details that don't truly justify such a price hike in my eyes. =/ I went to use the bathroom and for some crazy reason there was a door code. The employees noticed and gave me the code, but I dunno, I hate door codes on restrooms. I know why businesses do it, but at the same time I kinda think it's lame to gatekeep people from peeing. Who cares whether they're giving your business money or not? Like just be humane and let people who need to pee pee! I also didn't really groove on the experience of paying. It was all done on tablet, rather than the standard receipt and running your card for you. Instead the employee handed over this annoying tablet to my husband for him to do all the work of interacting with the UI to pay. Again like, what are we even paying $20 a plate for exactly?? Why wasn't Denny's open? Ugh. I probably should've insisted on searching harder for a local 24 hour breakfast establishment; I gotta believe they exist in the Twin Cities! (Also admittedly just disappointed because recently while we were watching TV there was an IHOP ad advertising their new $6 value menu. This menu was nowhere to be found. I thoroughly looked through the menus we were given and it wasn't there. We stopped here for a late night dinner for two adults and two toddlers. The staff count was a little light but they were great communicating where to sit while we waited and seated us quickly. Walked in and waited to be greeted for seating. A male walked up and asked us how many people were in our party and we said 6, he gave a crazy look back at another female and walked out. A lady named Leslie, with a neck brace, became our server. She was very standoffish from the beginning. She initially took our drink orders and when she came back with the wrong drinks and we addressed the issue, she shrugged it off like she didn't care. She didn't even apologize for the order or ask to bring the correct drink. When it came time for our food order, it took a while even though it was only like two other families in the restaurant at the time. If that wasn't an issue, the food came out wrong as well and she was so hard to get a hold of, we just said whatever. I had 4 whole kids with me and not once did she come back to offer extra Napkins, silverware, or anything else. She had an attitude when we asked her to replace a set of silverware that had SAND in the napkin. Ketchup container was empty and sticky. It was soaked in dry syrup and tossed on the table with the dirty SALT shaker they placed on the table too. At the end, the total was well over $85 for subpar food. You can never go wrong with a traditional American breakfast platter. My wife and I came here for breakfast the other morning. As much as we enjoy the coffee from IHOP, we decided not to order it due to health concerns. The service was great. There was a slight morning rush, so it was moderately noisy. Our experience at this IHOP was beyond disappointing. We ordered a T-bone steak cooked medium rare, but it arrived rare. When we sent it back, it returned so overcooked it was inedible. We then requested to substitute it with salmon, but it took over an hour to arrive, and by that point, my daughter no longer wanted to wait. When we asked for the meal to be removed from our bill (since we didn't eat it), the waitress became confrontational, accusing us of "making a scene" in front of our kids--even though we remained calm the entire time. To make matters worse, she walked off, loudly saying, "F*** these people," within earshot of our children. As if that wasn't bad enough, the waitress then threatened to call the police on us, even though we never refused to pay. All we asked was for the uneaten item to be removed from the bill after an unreasonable wait. The manager eventually got involved, but the unprofessionalism, especially swearing and making baseless threats in front of our children, was completely unacceptable. There isn't that much fast food in this funky - tidy, manicured, but sort of aseptic and weird - area around Mall of America (MOA), just like there aren't any gas stations. However, this IHOP is one of the better cost conscious options. I went into the "IHOP MOA" twice for breakfast - once alone and once with an acquaintance. On both occasions, they were busy enough yet the waitress and the waiter, respectively - possibly politically incorrect terms in the New Millennium - were in a good mood and put through orders and brought out food fairly fast. The food at IHOP is boilerplate, and so are the prices. (There's an IHOP taste to their breakfast items while there's a Denny's taste to their breakfast items.) That's fine. That's why you go there. And that's why I went to eat at this IHOP twice. Now, there's even "happy hour" pricing for some platters in the afternoon through the evening. However, what's notable here is that the physical plant is in good shape (it seems to be a newer or remodeled store), the location is convenient to this busy node in the metro area, there is ample parking, the clientele appears to be well mannered, and the service is good. That they'll even accommodate seating preferences when busy says something. Additionally, with Metro Transit having its southern terminus at MOA, it's about a block to reach this IHOP on foot, so "hop to it." read more

As you may know, IHOP is such a solid breakfast spot to go on the weekend especially if you have children or with your family. I've been there twice and we had to wait at least 20 minutes every time (not ideal but was worth the wait). The service here is so incredible! Everyone was so energetic, engaging and so fun. I love how you can get unlimited pancakes with a breakfast combo (although it ends up being SOOOO much food), it's honestly so worth it! We had an excellent experience at this iHOP. Perhaps the only iHOP and maybe even the only restaurant in Twin Cities still open 24-hours during the pandemic.
