The food was delicious, service is great and the perfect meet up with my husband who's a truck driver. He had a delivery and decided to meet up there, driving in you'll think you're lost but just go a little further in and you'll see it.

Hidden little gem tucked away off the freeway. Rustic western/cattleman decor in an unassuming building. We had been here for lunch and had nice meals before. Finally made it in for their Friday Basque dinner and oh boy what a treat. We hadn't made reservations and they were busy, but they were able to fit us in after a minor wait. Even short handed that night they treated everyone well and provided great service. Plates of delicious Basque set up: Amazing Soup and Beans with crusty bread. Salad, pickled tongue for me, crisp French fries and vegetables. My pork chops with garlic were outstanding and Hubby loved his steak. Both cooked perfectly to order. Everything paired so well with the Melodramatic red blend a new find for me. A date night experience to add to our rotation. Well worth the drive. Thank you Idle Spur

STOP! You must read this review. To tell you the truth I didn't want to leave a review for this establishment simply because I wanted to keep the secret to myself. Judgement got the better of me so here we are. Imagine working on a ranch with horses & livestock since early in the morning. You are starving for a solid, hearty breakfast cooked to perfection with large portions. This is the place you have always looked for but have never found. Now you have! look no further! Driving up you will think you are 100% lost. You will enter an auction stockyard and you will think that this could not possibly be the place . . . But it is! The staff is super nice & welcomes you even if you are a first-timer. Trust me. The local cowboys know this place well. The diner itself is small. It is almost like stepping back in time, a simpler time. It may be small and unassuming but it delivers a mighty breakfast. I had the kitchen sink omelette with hash-browns and a biscuit & gravy. My wife had the steak fajita omelette with home fries. Amazing breakfast! Don't believe me - check out my pics. Thank you Idle Spur for your hospitality, service, and amazing food! We will return!

I just love coming here. The meat is great and fresh. Cooked according to how I want it and I'm here for the ribeye and a glass of wine. The menu is uncomplicated. You have to get here before 2 because by then they are closed. Great stop when you're in 99.

Cafe is wonderful with a good cook and excellent personal service. Delightful. Exceeds expectation. Clean, homey. A central gathering spot for locals. Hospitable to 'outsiders' .. but not so much the two working in the back office not associated with the restaurant, but part of the livestock auction office. One heavy set young one was stuffing her face with a large breakfast platter, and the other was an old bitty who asked icily ' Can I help you '. No. I was back here using the restroom and saw the live auction and thought I'd take a few pictures. Sheesh.

Great breakfast spot! Food is SUPER yummy. WAY BETTER than your typical fast food drive-thru spots!

Little small diner on the side of the highway with food quality like this is definitely a hidden gem. Good service with that small town diner vibe, the ribeye was so good along with the rest of the set up, not anyone in our party not like their entree. Definitely coming back to try out the rest of the menu.

A hidden gem! Delicious, high quality food! Located at a cattle stockyard off of the 99 freeway and the 46, about 15 minutes north of Bakersfield. This restaurant has the best steak and eggs in all of California's Central Valley! They cut their own meat! Take your pick. New York Steak, Ribeye, or Top Sirloin. They have steak nights every Friday. I also like their Stockman Burger. They only use high quality ingredients. The Idle Spur Cafe is a mom and pop restaurant with incredible service.

I found this place and we had like 40 minutes to get there before they closed. As we started to drive there we were wondering if the GPS was taking us on a wild ride because we ended up driving on some rural roads and thought, there's no way there's a restaurant back here but a few minutes later we arrived to a cute rustic looking caboose looking café. The interior was authentic and rustic and even smelled like real food being cooked on a griddle smell. Our waitress came right over and welcomed us to sit wherever we want to. Their menu was homemade country filled items. I ordered the Club Sandwich which was their daily special and I went with their potatoe salad which is something I don't like to order because it's one of those items that I'm never really sure if its going to be homemade or store bought. My husband went with the cheeseburger and fries. It didn't take long for our meal to arrive. I loved how the plates didn't match, just like at home lol, and the potato salad was homemade and it was good. My Club Sandwich was good and the vegetables were California fresh. My husband said his cheeseburger was cooked right and tasted like it was cooked on a seasoned grill. I definitely know if when we are back in the area, we definitely will be coming back to this little spot.

Thankfully Hole in One Cafe provided us with a place to not only gather and catch up but fill our bellies with DELICIOUS food. Every time I'm back in town, it's one of my go-to spots for Mexican food. It's the kind of place where you can sit down, relax, and really enjoy good food while catching up with friends and family. I usually come by for lunch, and it never disappoints. My go-to order is the beef and chicken flautas, which always come out crispy and flavorful, served with rice and beans that hit the spot every time. And I have to mention the horchata, it's sooo good, especially with that small ice they serve it with. It just tastes extra refreshing and perfectly complements the meal. On the weekends, I switch it up and go for the menudo, which is always satisfying and something I genuinely look forward to. It's one of those comfort dishes that keeps me coming back. Yes, we were basically on dirt roads that saw a few scattered homes here and there, and visible old school phone towers (the brown kind) connected with wires (where crows sit on a row) existed, and not much else. We drove around in some circles, looking for this fabled store and found nothing, not even a Bigfoot. We noted how the moment felt like we were on an Iowa highway because we saw expansive fields and experienced a Middle-America atmosphere. I wanted a small stalk of wheat in between my teeth. As we drove, we saw this place and decided that this joint would replace the store we were looking for. At this point I started to listen to Carry on My Wayward Son by Kansas. If you know, you know. As soon as I entered I felt like I had stepped into a diner in the middle of nowhere, the type of spot where brothers talked about saving people, hunting things, you know the family business. My friend Denise did not know what I was talking about and when I tried to introduce the world to her with corny prompts she decided not to play along. Still for a fan the experience was nothing but a win!(chester). I cannot remember the person who helped us but she was a server who reported that she had lived in the surrounding area for most of her life. She was deepening the believe that we were on a route diner neglected by city reality. During this visit, I had fried okra for the first time in my life. It was weird to taste but not in a bad way. More like I had never tasted this texture before in my life. The texture that I had not tried before in my life was a gooey vegetable. Like the texture of the outside was exactly as advertised--- fried goodness. The actual okra was the gooey part. I do not want to sound crass, truly, I do not, but it did feel like enjoying something slimy, and I will leave it at that. Again, not wrong, just weird But I will not get it again. The server- the homegrown one- gave us fried pickles and these were much more to taste. Like, I i have had fried pickles before and I loved them but I had some that were not for me. But these, these, were pickle spears fried to brown goodness, and the mixture hit green- which does not mean go, more like Hulk enjoys, instead of smashes. It was a simple dish yes- green spear pickle fried but sometimes the goodness of a county fair is exactly what a roadtrip snack should be. The fair came to my table and I am not mad at that. On this trip I did have the Willow Dip which I feel is a close cousin to a french dip. What this place did well, at least I think, is putting it on an onion baguette. I am not sure if onion baguette is a middle-of-nowhere bread, but, I allowed it because the taste of the bread was, like tailored made for me, I am a sucker for onion, and not just because it gives me sexy breath. The food was standard, solid fare. Everything was just good nothing wrong with it, all good with it. The sauces were tasty, and added smoky sweet flavor that was welcomed. So this elevated the dish by addding a hickory taste. It did not save the dishes, but did make them better. The decorations were texas heavy. I should have taken more pictures. But sometimes the imagination allows for a space to feel more than at it is.

NY steak was amazingly tender and cooked perfectly, the kind of steak that really does not need much done to it because the flavor already speaks for itself. They served it with chimichurri sauce, which just was not exactly my cup of tea, but once I added Worcestershire sauce, it really brought out the flavor of an already all-star steak. The Chicken Fried Steak 'n' Eggs with hash browns was also very tasty Steak even the batter had flavor and definitely worth it. The chicken fried steak had that good comfort food quality to it, with a crispy outside, tender bite, and a savory flavor that worked really well with the eggs. The hash browns helped round everything out nicely and even the biscuits and gravy which im generally not a fan of was very good. Service from Holly, and I hope I got that right, was amazing from start to finish. She was friendly, attentive, and made the visit feel easy and comfortable. Even the iced tea stood out to me because it tasted like the homemade sun tea I make every year by the pool, and that gave the whole meal an extra familiar touch. Overall, this was a very strong visit with a standout steak, a satisfying breakfast plate, and excellent service.
