This place is my go-to for a local breakfast. Service is good, prices are reasonable and portions are decent. Plenty of free parking, no EV charging stations. This is a no frills type place. I had the General's Old Fashioned Ham. Three eggs cooked to your preference, hash browns or country style potatoes, one-pound of ham and your choice of toast, pancakes or biscuit. The ham piece is enormous and definitely enough for leftovers. 5/5 My friend ordered the tri-tip salad with Italian dressing. The meat was tender and greens consisting of chopped romaine lettuce. The salad was served with a side of garlic toast. 4/5 Service is always good and waitstaff come around frequently for beverage refills. The ambiance is very casual. read more

Welp--"disappointed" is the best way to put it. I ordered the New York steak and eggs and was served what looked like a thick, small slab of carne asada. I was asked how I wanted it cooked and said medium, but regardless of what I said, the meat was going to come out well done. The cut I received looked nothing like what was pictured on the menu. When I mentioned it to two different waitresses, I was told the steaks come in "different sizes," which didn't address the issue at all--the cut itself was entirely different. Instead of feeling heard, I felt like I was the problem for questioning it. Overall, it was a pretty frustrating experience. read more

Any time I'm in Delano I never think to grab breakfast here, even though it's on my mom's side of town. On the last few visits, we decided to take my mom here and it did not disappoint. The wait time was not long and I really liked that they put us in a different private area since my mom is disabled and has to push her little cart that's a little bulky. The staff were super fast and friendly. At one point we had thought they forgot about us, but when I turned around here she comes from behind to ask if we were doing okay. Amazingly I was impressed with the food, It was served fresh and our food came straight from the kitchen because everything was piping hot just the way we like. The place could use some updated decor. I believe the decorations are the same ones from Fruit Tree and Perko days and that was some time ago. It looks super outdated and you can tell all the decorations, tables and chairs are super old, but the servers do wipe up after someone's finished eating, but the place would look nicer if they updated a little. Restrooms are not too friendly with people who have disabilities as my mom struggled a bit in there, so if you bring your elderly relatives then they will need help in the restroom. read more

Came for Sunday breakfast because I had business in Delano. Haven't been here since it's name change to Generals so it's been a long time. I had the country fried steak and I loved it! It came with two steaks so I saved one for later. It was so crispy and flavorful. The eggs were just eggs. The country potatoes were a little mushy but it did have some crispy moments to it. And Im so glad that I was able to get pancakes with it too. It comes with a choise of biscuits and gravy, pancakes or toast. So thankfully I got to try the pancakes which were also great as well. My husband got the oreo French toast. The bread was soaked in an egg mixture. You could definitely taste that. It wasn't dry. He finished it all. The only think about their speciality items, which it all looked good....it would cost almost $25 to make it a meal with the eggs and meat. Hence my option of the country fried steak. Otherwise their strawberry cheesecake waffles were looking pretty good on that menu. Only gripe about the place...sticky yucky menus. read more

I readily admit to being a food snob, as many of you who follow me should know. Frankly, on a road trip down Highway 99 from Sacramento to Bakersfield, and back, there is very little in the way of good food options. Sorry, but just as I see it, and I have tried again and again to no avail. That takes me here, the General, which I hoped as an independent cafe/diner type restaurant might be the Holy Grail. Unfortunately, no. It's just another roadside 'greasy spoon'. It's not particularly clean looking, but I did see servers diligently sanitizing seats, booths, and tables when people left, a very good sign. The place, however, is a bit weather worn and in need of a good sprucing up. The menu is OK, typical of this type of establishment, plastic and pictures, and not too inspired. I ordered the Santa Fe Grill Sandwich with fries, plus an iced tea. The sandwich was just OK, and yes, alas, greasy. It came with a beautifully grilled pepper, which I typically would love to eat a pepper like that, but it too looked greasy. I could only consume half the fries, unusual for me as I typically woof them down, but not here. Service was good, friendly, which was nice. Lots of local families seem to eat here. I've came here in multiple occasions with my girlfriend after church, usually we try ordering something new everytime. One week I decided to try their steak omelette. Usually I would have annihilated my food since it's a huge portion that's usually delicious. This time though, the steak smelled funky like a disco ball. I decided to go against my judgement, I bit into it and....BOOM a mouth full of a rubber shoe. To make matters worse, the steak was watery. They obviously didn't properly thaw their meat and cooked it on high. The outside was charred, and the inside looked raw. You're better off making a steak at home. I couldn't get myself to finish it, and my girlfriend couldn't stomach it either. Worst $20 I've spent there, and the worst steak to ever touch my tongue. I do like their tri tip sandwich and grilled chicken sandwich. Pretty good fries too. Customer service could be improved, sometimes the waitresses are a bit rude, especially the younger ones. Try not to look so angry and judgmental. read more

The end of an era. Old Perko's was amazing!! Then name changed and everything went down hill from there. Why the difference? It's still the same family that owns it. This was a staple for our family; Birthdays, graduations, anniversary's.... You name it, we always gathered here. These days. It's empty, dirty and the food is horrible. Today we got watery ranch, hair in our salads and dirty cups for our drinks. Just horrible! The bottom of our salads were pooled with water... The experience was the absolute worst! For the money we spent, we will not be returning. They have lost a loyal family of customers. read more

No condiments or sauce for the burger. Tri-tip meat was dry, like it was reheated. Service was less than mediocre. The place also smelled of sewage coming from the restrooms. When I come to Delano. I enjoy stopping by for breakfast. The Traditional breakfast, your choice of meats as in; bacon, sausage/sausage patties, ham or beefy hash. Also, comes with your choice of toast, pancakes or biscuits and gravy for $12.99. The food is really good. I definitely recommend it if your passing through. Prices are reasonable.
