I spent $250 on Monday 4/27 taking my mom for an early mother's day mani pedi while she was visiting (in cash including generous tips). On Sunday 5/3 I noticed cracks in the gel on several of my nails. Today, Monday 5/4, my nails snagged in my hair and clothes while getting ready for work. I ended up with three nails with larger peels and chips in others. After work, I went straight to Ideal expecting them to honor their work and their seven day guarantee. Instead, I was told my guarantee ended Sunday and the technician who did my nails wasn't working so there was nothing they could do to fix my nails. Unless I wanted to pay for a whole new manicure, then of course they could help. Everytime I go, I feel like I'm getting up sold. Today I went and asked for a basic pedicure and was told that my heals were too rough and needed to buy the next package up. It was only $6, but when I tell you what I want, please listen. Also in looking closely at my toes tonight, the polish is uneven. This is not my first experience with this. What was worse is that my friend, who never gets manicures so doesn't understand the difference, told her manicurist that she wanted just clear. They argued for a bit about color. She just wanted a basic manicure. They put dip on her nails. She didn't know the difference and pointed to the bottle of clear polish. Why did they give her dip? They took advantage to her not understanding the difference and the language barrier and gave her the most expensive treatment. In addition, they never finished the manicure because a regular client came in there was no lotion or hand massage which is usually part of the treatment. We both feel ripped off. I've been coming here for many years now and I have to say that they normally do a wonderful job, between nails, wax, etc, however, my last few experiences have been disappointing and I do see quality declining. Today I found most disappointing as it would have been nice to have been told there is now a $15 charge for soak off, $25 for chrome coating, and $5 for a "special" gel color that I was not informed of. And the only reason it's an issue is because 2 weeks ago when I had the same thing except I in fact got acrylic (more than gel), my total came out $10 less than my total today. My reasoning for the review is that I've noticed this trend almost every time I return. I do believe the staff should be more upfront with the cost of things before doing them and my concern about it seemed brushed off today when I mentioned it. My tech gooped on the dip powder and refused to file my two index nails down to the shape I wanted. The first couple times I politely brought up concerns another tech told me "to leave her alone and she will fix it at the end." Who speaks to their customers like that? I should have left at this point. After two hours in it became clear my nails weren't going to be done the way I wanted so I told them to stop the service and reminded them that I had asked SEVERAL times to file my nails the way I wanted. Other techs got involved saying my tech doesn't understand English and that they'll fix it for me. I sat down again and another tech started to work on my nails but started filing every other nail than the ones I requested. I told her to stop, paid, and left. They gave me a 15% discount for my troubles. The real kicker? Once I got home I touched my toes and the polish slid right off almost TWO HOURS after they had been done. I was in the salon for 2 hours. I went online earlier in the week and requested a specific nail tech and wrote i wanted acrylic taken off and dip set put on. I showed the tech i was moved to the length and shape i wanted from a post on their page (attached). He filed my nails more to try to get more acrylic off and left build up in the middle. Then he put a tip on and i liked the shape. The color i chose you could still see the tip through which i asked if it could be fixed and the tech said i should have chose a darker color and put one darker coat over it. One nail is completely crooked and i didnt notice until i left the salon. My nails are built up looking thicker than before. It looks like jelly beans are stuck to my hand. I'm really sad to even write this review. I've been going here for a couple of years even after having a bad experience with one of the nail techs. I usually come here to get my eyebrows done, and that's it. Michelle always does my brows and they're good. Today she upsold me waxing my lip, and my face even tho I didn't ask for my face to be done. She just did it and tacked it on. Barely anything even came off my face.... Then I decided against my better judgement because I have a regular nail place that I love, to just get a pedicure since I was already there. How I left paying $90 is just beyond me. $12 eyebrows became a $37 face wax. Needless to say, unfortunately now I'll be finding a new eyebrow place. I decided to give this place another shot (I had a decent experience last time) when my go-to spot was super busy two weeks ago. I walked in and was seated within 15 mins for a gel mani pedi.the lady who did both did an excellent job, used new and sanitized tools, and had great attention to detail. My manicure held up strong for 2 weeks with only one teeny little chip. I went back to get another manicure with gel. I made an online appointment for 3pm and was seated and started by 3:10. I had a gentleman this time and he did an excellent job. I was very impressed that he spotted a ruby piece of cotton fluff that got caught in my finished nail and didn't stop until he'd removed it and made my nail look perfect again. Very unhappy...I got a full acrylic set with regular polish. During my service my cuticles got cut with the drill/file 4 times, and I later learned it was because the acrylic was applied too close to my cuticle and was practically on top of the skin. After I left was when I realized there was so much excess acrylic left underneath the nail, so much so that it was painfully digging into my finger while I was driving. I have gotten acrylic nails done a bunch of times with regular polish on top and not gel, and have been completely fine, but the polish first chipped off as soon as I opened my car door. Then I realized it wasn't even dry all the way. I was told to sit with my hands under the fans so it could dry while I waited for my friend and when I asked how long I should sit there for, was told it's probably fine to go now, even though I'd only been sitting there for about ten minutes. Then they sprayed on something I think was supposed to instantly set it or something? Which did not work because by the time I got home the polish picked up textures from everything I touched and was still smudging and coming off. It got so frustrating and u bearable that I had to go to another salon to have it all fixed. We also had appointments for certain techs, that we saw good reviews for but was not seen by them. I don't usually get a pedicure because I can't stay long enough for mani and pedi, but today's visit I got both and it was the most relaxing time I've had to myself in months. Found the go-to salon I've been looking for! Walked in on a Sunday morning around 11, and were lucky to be seen right away. The place is clean and has a great selection of polishes, gels, and dip powder. They used new, packaged tools - everything seemed very sanitary. The deluxe pedicure was fantastic, and included a short hot stone massage. The older woman who did my pedicure was fantastic! She was so diligent and took her time with each step of my service. I have never had my nails painted with such care! Usually by the time the bulk of the services are over and they paint my nails, my technicians rush through. She was meticulous in painting my nails and making sure they were totally neat and fully covered in polish. The man who finished up my manicure did the same. Great experience and a hidden gem! I've tried a few places on 101a looking for a reliable, clean, and price conscious location, and had to keep looking. I came here today with my best friend and her two kids for a fun little mani/pedi day. Her son (5) was so excited to spend the day with us and picked out a navy blue color for his nails. Her daughter (3) picked out a red color. Once we got over to the chairs the nail lady was making conversation with my friend's son and asked him his name. He is very social and loves people so he was very talkative. After asking his name the nail lady responds with, "are you sure your name isn't Jennifer? I think your name is Jennifer because you're getting color on your nails. Next time you should wear a dress too!" He immediately stopped talking and his face got beat red. She then put the nail polish away and said "I'm just doing it clear". My friend then spoke up and said "he wants color so we're doing the color." The nail lady then proceeded to ask him two more times if he was sure because "he's a boy and boys don't paint their nails". I was horrified to say the least. He is 5 years old and was just excited to do something with his mom and sister, he didn't need to be made to feel embarrassed by someone who is being paid to do a service. I really want to write a positive review however, the last three times I've been here have not been so positive. One day I experienced a very hostile situation between two of the nail technicians...it was extremely uncomfortable to say the least, and I felt horrible for the bride to be that they were arguing over. We always receive reminders to arrive on time and sometimes even receive a phone call to make sure we will be on time. I've never been late for an appointment but there have been times I've had to wait - this is not out of the norm, given the nature of the business. I try to be patient but today when I arrived, I waited 15 minutes to be seated and then waited a few more minutes before my nails were started. Before my nails were complete, my nail technician left me to start working on another person. My time is just as valuable and I I had an appointment to get to,. Needless to say, I paid for service that was not completed and still left a more then deserving tip. I used to go here all the time but it had a different owner the last three times I have been there with the new owners have been a big disappointment I just went this week on Wednesday and on Thursday my fingernails were chipped and peeling this is the third time this is happened. The first two times I thought OK I'm up at the lake and I'm in the water so it is my fault that the polish is coming off within days so this time I figured I am not going up to the lake I'll get my polish done on my nails and see if it lasts. The very next day my index finger nail polish was wearing off the next day on my other hand -two fingernails had the polish coming off and I cannot blame that on being in the water all the time at the lake. Also I agree with the last person they did have a price increase that they do not tell to you about I am going to go back today and have them fix my nails and once they're done I am going to tell them that I am not returning due to this being the third time this is happened there!!!! Been going here for years, and I am always welcomed with a big smile. They always do an amazing job on my acrylics, and they have lots of colors to choose from. The staff is highly trained and always very professional. It's often easy to feel intimidated when you go into a nail salon alone with nail tecs that hardly speak English and try to offer you brow waxing or extra spa packages when you are there to simply get your nails done. This is a fine place for a mani or a pedi, but not somewhere I would come back to intentionally. The massage function of my pedi chair was broken (bad start), and the staff questioned my color choices a few times (I want what I want, sorry!). Ultimately the paint job was just ok, but not perfect. When I opted for a mani with no polish, they literally just soaked and trimmed my cuticles and put lotion on me.
