I come down from Ventura to see "Shady", and his name couldn't be more ironic, because there's nothing shady about him or his work. He's been maintaining my 2005 Lexus SC430 and has saved me a boatload of money on repairs and maintenance over the years. He's respectful, friendly, and clearly takes pride in getting things right. My most recent service made the car run like it did when it was new. The engine is humming smoothly again, something I've honestly NEVER experienced after a repair or routine maintenance anywhere else and I've owned this car since 2007. And while the name S & M Automotive might make some people do a double take (hahaha), the only thing painful here is realizing how unnecessary other repair bills can be once you find a mechanic this good and dependable. He very quickly assessed the issue, asked us to park closer, fixed it immediately (even though we ordered a misfiring part). And then didn't charge us a dime. He said it was a safety necessity for our kids on board. I will be coming back for all future work, he was clearly an expert and natural. I'm not sure if the negative reviews just met a completely different man? He does not care about juicing customers for money. He is fast paced and knowledgeable. Works well on the fly. Took it in as the engine was severely underperforming; didn't know whether or not it needed rings, an engine rebuild or a complete new engine. They not only diagnosed the engine and issues but do the complete inspection on the vehicle. After the repairs, it's running better than ever. All in all I would recommend this shop but maybe just for simple repairs and nothing too out of the ordinary since they do not specialize in any particular area of autos. *Also, it would've been better if they just said that they dont or wont touch the transmission. Unfortunately the repair that was done here may have ultimately damaged the internals because of lack of knowledge with this vehicle. *On another note, I called the number provided on Yelp (and also what I had saved on my phone) and another "Sergio" answered claiming to be a car wash person and he was confused on how I got "his" number. If they did change the number they should disclose it on Yelp so others wont call the wrong person/ repair shop. (Number I called was 805.483.7901 as it shows on Google and Yelp.) This is not to bash anyone, im simply stating that if a shop is not knowledgable on a particular vehicle they (the shop) can choose to offer the client an alternative shop instead of taking on work they cant fulfill or diagnose correctly. He even suggested things I could try to fix it myself before bringing it in. Needless to say he was very helpful, polite and accomodating. He told me to bring it in whenever I could, which was right away. When I got there he came and greeted me and went straight to checking my car out. He said he would give me a call in awhile when he looks more into it. I received a phone call about three hours later with the exact price and that it would be ready the next day. I was extremely pleased with the job and service. He even topped off my oil and made other maintenance suggestions without being pushy. Reasonable priced, great, fast, friendly, and their helpfulness has turned me into a return customer.
