Visited in September. Childhood memories as I visited our grandparents when I was little. I placed an order ahead & they were so accommodating. I ordered Co-can cookies( think shortbread flavor with mace) & their fruit bars. The smell of the bakery took me back to decades ago! My order was ready & I ordered a few other goodies to take to local friends. They even have OSU cookies...I even bought these even though i was raised a UM fan. Thanks Ideal for making my trip back to Ohio special. read more

I heard about this place in a movie called Gibsonburg. It was about their state championship winning baseball team. And I am a huge sucker for going to places that I see in movies so I just had to come and try this place out. I just had the best strawberry danish I've ever had in my life and I can't wait to try this blueberry muffin next. read more

I need to visit my Aunt in Helena more often so I can zip up the road to Ideal Bakery to get donuts! Our Uncle brought us a box our first morning there and we all gobbled them down so fast! First, I should apologize to anyone in the downtown Gibsonburg area for the amount of gleeful full volume squeals of my children as we crossed the street to the bakery before 6:30am! (We are not morning people and the promise of donuts is the only thing to motivate us out the door so early!) Our last two family visits we have popped up the road here to Gibsonburg on our way back to Oklahoma to fortify ourselves (and our five kids) for the long drive home. Not only do they have the best Jelly Balls I've ever had, but they have very yummy cream sticks in a variety of flavors! My hubby got maple, daughter got butterscotch, so good. We each got two donuts (because, come on, it's a 17 hour drive, who doesn't need to sugar up!) and not one was a "bummer." The gal helping us even put each persons donuts in an individual bag for each of us and was patient with the kids waiting to figure out what they wanted. Here's to new traditions! We'll be back Gibsonburg, and we'll try to be a little quieter next time around! read more

I had a large event at work and our conference planner suggested these donuts, they were gorgeous and as promised so that was perfect, however, the real treat was that EVERYONE LOVED THEM!!! I had sooo many emails, texts, and calls about where these amazing donuts were from! I've never had that happen with any events I've planned!! My son even took extras to the football team and the football team asked him where these amazing donuts were from and wanted him to put the name of the amazing donut place in their group chat read more

This bakery has wonderful doughnuts. My favorite is the chocolate cream stick, but they have a variety of options. Their service is great, and though the town of Gibsonburg is quaint, people come from all over to have the Ideal Bakery treats. When I ate my doughnut here, I found it so good that I bought doughnuts for my entire family. Their responses were equally enthusiastic. I love this place and would suggest it to anyone! read more

The Ideal Bakery in Gibsonburg is a local institution that has been serving the area for over 100 years. I have know three generations of the family that owns the Bakery and have always been impressed by the attention to quality and the desire to stay current as customer tastes have evolved. I have found the staff friendly and always willing to help find just what your looking to find to satisfy your sweet tooth. The Gibsonburg location in the home of the original bakery located in a century old commercial building in the heart of the business district. When walking in the building you can't help but experience the smells of breads and sweets visible in the showcase in the front of the building. In the back you walk into a very traditional 1050's style ice cream soda shop. Stop in for a fresh cup of coffee or your favorite ice cream confection along with a roll from the case, and leave with a mixed dozen of treats from the showcase. I guarantee you will stop back your next time in town. read more
