My wife and I have been coming here for the Mumbai Jini dosa, and it never disappoints; flavorful, crispy, comforting, and just absolutely hits the spot every time. Stopped by on a weekday late lunch after a nice hike. Park near the Cheese Factory and walk towards the mall entrance. They'll take your order at the door then show you to your table (if the guy walks away suddenly after you order, you should follow). They prioritize getting groups/families out quickly. We love ID Cafe for a quick Indian snack. Their Filter coffee is so good! We usually get their Onion Samosas, Masala Dosa and enjoy it with a cup of their masala chai tea or Filter Coffee. Heavenly! Great spot at stoneridge mall to get ur desi fix . The dosas and idllis are so good , specially their vijaywada chicken , keema and paneer dosas. They have tons of other speciality dosas and also have the option to customize ur dosas . Their newest addition is a to go mini dosa wrap that you can take out ( cone fashion , think the folded pizzas on streets of Naples or Rome ) while on the go . I decided to order from them when visiting the Stoneridge Shopping Center. We got the beyond karaikudi dosa (vegan) and the tikka fries. Beyond karaikudi dosa: It is described as their famous karaikudi style dosa made with ground beyond meat vegan protein, onions, tomatoes and coriander. It was quite a bit spicier than I expected since it supposedly did not have peppers (I am weak to spice, unfortunately). It came with 4 sauces, green one was cilantro, the red orange one was spicy, not sure what the tan one was exactly, and the other orange one was more soupy but was not spicy. Tikka fries: This was really good, savory, I loved the tikka flavor and the fries are thin but crispy. Food was okay but service is pretty bad. Waitstaff never makes eye contact with customers so you have to literally stand up and flag them down. No specific instructions on anything. Left sitting at my table for almost 10 minutes only to learn that one is expected to walk up to the front to pay. Then there was the ridiculous interaction when I pointed at my empty glass and asked for some more diet coke. The guy said, do you want to refill or do you want a new diet coke? I said, I'd like a refill please. He says, I'm sorry we don't do refills. Then there are the sick customers. I was literally sitting at a booth surrounded by three families who were violently hacking and coughing. No one was covering their mouth. All in all this was a very unpleasant dining experience. We came here on a Saturday night for dinner. The ambiance was lively and there was little wait and we were seated promptly. Our server was very attentive and friendly. We ordered the Andhra Karam Dosa and the Matka Dosa. The Andhra Karam Dosa was delicious and the spiciness hit just right. That and the combination of the four different chutneys available were absolutely delicious and flavorful. The Matka Dosa looked super aesthetic but I found it be slightly on the blander side (even with the filling) but with the chutneys did help add flavor to the dosa. The food here was SO good! We decided on ID Cafe when looking to try a new cuisine nearby - they seemed to have just recently opened. ID Cafe is found in Stoneridge Mall, tucked in a corner right behind Cheesecake Factory. They specialize in South Indian dosas, which is a thin savory crepe made from a fermented batter of ground black lentils and rice. We ordered a few things to try out: + Tikka Fries (5/5): We enjoyed this the most out of everything we ordered! I was surprised to see how crisp the fries stayed despite the mountain of tikka sauce. The onions in the sauce helped with balancing the heavy and savory flavors. + Vijayawada Paneer Dosa (3.5/5): Comes with spicy vijayawada sauce, green chilis, shredded paneer and tomatoes. The dosa stayed nicely put together but the filling wasn't the best I've had. + Punugulu (4/5): Fun to eat! The green sauce that it came with was delicious - this was def a must to combine the two because it could taste rather dry on its own. They have a decent amount of indoor seating, and a beautiful outdoor dining area. New south Indian restaurant in Stoneridge Mall - opened three months ago at the location previously occupied by The Counter, which was a family favorite. We were shopping at the mall this afternoon and there was an hour-long wait at The Cheesecake Factory, so we went to ID instead. We were welcomed and seated right away. The menu has a variety of Idli and Dosa options, which I am guessing what the I and D in the name of the establishment stands for! Our daughter ordered a Thums Up (Indian version of a Coke) and I ordered a mango lassi to start, and my wife and I ordered Madras filter coffees to be served at the end of our meal. We decided to split two dosas - spicy goat Keema and mild Malai Paneer - and also share tandoori nuggets (aka chicken nuggets) and punugulu (deep fried rice and lentil balls). The food arrived quickly, and was served with assorted chutneys (such as mint and tamarind) and spicy hot Sambar. The dosas were thoughtfully cut into thirds as we had told them we were sharing all the food. The goat keema was loaded with chillies, and probably too spicy for my wife and daughter, but they bravely had some. I enjoyed it thoroughly, having preemptively ordered the mango lassi, which I sipped to absorb the spice. The Malai Paneer dosa was much more to their taste - full of flavor and with the right balance of spices. The nuggets (5) and punugulu (12) were plentiful and enjoyed by us all. Best Dosa in the entire Bay Area! They have a wide variety of both traditional and non-traditional dosas. You have to try the pav bhaji dosa, masala dosa, veda bites, ghee roast dosa, and the idli. 4.5 stars ID Cafe is a brand new restaurant in Stoneridge Mall--just 3 days old on my visit! The setting was surprisingly elegant for an eatery that served its dishes on paper plates and trays, and the service was super friendly and welcoming. "ID" stands for "idly dosa," and South Indian tiffins (in a variety of traditional and creative forms) were the feature of the menu. We started with the simple Ghee Roast Dosa, a thin, crispy rice and lentil batter crepe served with sambar (a spicy and sour vegetable-lentil soup) and three different chutneys: green coconut, tomato, and peanut (my favorite!). From their Signature Dosa menu, we ordered the Hyderabad Bandi Dosa, filled with onions, tomatoes, coriander, upma, kandhi podi (a spice powder), and a spicy Bandhi sauce. Uniquely, you could order any dosa here to be made with a moong dal batter, which had a dark brown color when cooked. Another signature dosa was the Vijayawada Chicken Dosa, filled with minced chicken and a spicy Vijayawada sauce, but my favorite dosa of all was the Karaikudi Goat Keema, filled with a mixture of meaty minced goat along with onions, tomatoes, green chilies, and coriander. In general, all the dosas here were super flavorful and delicious, though some of them could've been crispier. So I'm really disappointed to leave this review. Since ID Cafe's soft opening, my family and I have been here 4 times...yes you read the right, 4 times. I have a dosa obsession as of recently, and they make excellent, crispy dosas!! That is not the complaint at all. The food has been very good every single time. But below I'll share my experiences at each visit! First time: excellent. We were the only people eating there as it was the second day it was open. Service was great as was the food. Second time: food was wonderful again, but we had to ask for water. Between three people we were given one cup of water. Strange, but someone must have seen my reaction and they brought more water. Third time: we brought friends with us for dinner. The drinks our friends ordered were not given to us until the end of the service. Our bill was completely wrong, and so we paid, had to be refunded and then had to pay again. No apology, nothing about the drinks or the payment situation. Food was still good. Fourth time: omg by far the worst experience. I asked three times to order, I asked for water twice (as we were done with the meal), and had to get up in order for others to respond to me about my requests to pay/for the check. This left me super annoyed and questioning if I would be back. (This time, another patron also found a fly in their meal. The staff did not even apologize for this rather they just seemed stunned by this...) All the food we have tried: kids cone dosa, vada, pongulu, plain dosa, idly 65, pav bhaji idly, chili cheese dosa, tikka fries, mysore masala dosa, and chicken dosa were all really tasty, delicious, and made very well. In my opinion, when requests are made, staff shouldn't be gossiping, or bussing tables. Rather if a paying customer asked for water, why was that not done first? Why does a table need to be bussed? If someone complains about a fly in their food, why was no apology given? When someone has to ask three times to place an order why is it always we will be right there? I feel the staff is not properly trained on how to respond to things, there is no separation between wait staff/bussers, and there seems to be no logical flow of things when requests are made. Again I'm super sad I had to leave this review as I absolutely love the food. The fly thing is gross though and they need to figure that out to prevent that from happening again!! read more

Was at the Stoneridge Mall recently and came across the new ID Cafe at the old Counter Burger location (Across from California Pizza Kitchen). Having recently been introduced to dosas and a variety of South Indian, I had to give ID Cafe a try! Upon walking in there's a bar to your right with the majority of the seating towards the left. There are booths that line both sides with some individual tables in the middle section. The restaurant has a very open feel. We started out with the recommended tikka fries. The fries were amazing!! A very generous amount of freshly-fried French fries topped with an abundance of tikka sauce, paneer, onions, and cilantro. This is sharable for at least four people! I ordered their Vijayawada chicken dosa which consisted of minced Halal chicken, sauce, onions, tomatoes, and green chilis. Because these are made fresh and cooked to order, expect at least a 10+ minute wait for the dosas. The dosa was worth the wait and was served with coconut, peanut, and tomato chutneys. It was my first time trying peanut chutney and it was very refreshing. You're also given a side of sambar, which was also very good! If I weren't so full I would have ordered a plain dosa to use up the rest of the chuntneys. My friend ordered Karam podi idly and shared a few pieces with me. Freshly-made and light. It was the perfect medium for the chutneys. The restaurant was clean and service was attentive and friendly. Our orders were repeated after we placed them and also at the time of payment to confirm accuracy. All the dishes were served on bamboo plates. Running joke among a lot of Indians is if you want good desi food, then you must fill in the 3 checkboxes. 1) Bollywood videos on wall mounted TVs 2) Dirty bathrooms 3) Clientle is overwhelming Indian. Nice amount of spice, which was interestingly hotter than the sambar I got with my dosa. Karam spicy idle is also a winner. Get the 2 chili variety. It isn't going to make your tongue melt, but your stomach will love it. Egg dosa and plain dosa. You cannot go wrong with either. Besides the sambar, it comes with 3 different chutneys. Tasty tasty tasty! I was in Pleasanton for a wedding this weekend and after a long drive I was looking for some food. ID Cafe was right near my hotel and I love Indian food so I went straight for it. I've never had a dosa before and I wasn't even sure what I was ordering, it kinda looked like a crepe on the menu so I went for the chili cheese dosa and of course an order of samosas. I learned that the dosas are BIG. It came in a huge box with 4 difference sauces, I wasn't sure what they were but they tasted great. The dosa itself was delicious, bursting with flavor and spice. I finally had a chance to try this new modern place in Stoneridge Mall. At the time of my visit they had been open for 8 months and the decor was unusually but pleasantly modern with clean lines. I ordered Combo #6 ... which had a beautifully crisp dosa stuffed with fluffy spiced potato, a lovely steamed idli, a vada with just the right fried texture and spice, 3 fresh chutneys and sambar. Initially I wasn't too sure about the pongal, but it was a very tasty pudding like sweet made out of moong dal and spices. The flavor was really nice and not overly sweet.
