My Review of ICON Moving
As a consumer and as a black woman, I will never refer ICON moving to anyone.
The owner and manager, Tim, is not professional and from day one made disparaging comments regarding black consumers, however I was still willing to give him an opportunity.
Day one he constantly stated that black customers don't want to pay and ALWAYS want him to discount his services. He said so much that I had to stop and remind him numerous times, I never asked for a discount, I asked what his cost would be to pack and move my 1-bedroom apartment with my small storage ( on the property grounds). He asked my budget, in which I said around $1500. He stated it would his cost is $7000. I simply stated it was out of my budget.
Later we talked again and he had someone to come and help pack my minivan, in which I paid for the services. I did tell him that one person was moving slower than I would like. He also was supposed to send boxes with the employee and did not.
He had one of his employees, Kim, to come and help pack my apartment. Kim was efficient and moved quickly. I had no complaints about her services. Tim offered to have his guys to come and assist me loading my UHAUL for $50.00 in gas and $150/hr for 3 men. I chose to work with him with this service and cancelled my request with another company ( 150/hr travel and $150/hr for two men).
Tim arrived at 9:30 AM with his men, I did ask not to have the last guy that assisted with then minivan because he moved slower.
My UHAUL was originally parked across the street from the apartment complex on a busy street ( also it was a major football game going on so the traffic was heavier than usual). With permission from my complex, I was able to move the UHAUL in front of the apartment building in a no parking area ( the area in which all residents use when they are loading and unloading as well as Amazon, and UPS.
This is where things took a change. I advised Tim that I wanted to move the truck to this area and turn on the hazards and he stated he did not want the truck moved. I stated I wanted the truck to be moved because it is easier AND safer than crossing a busy street. I took the keys out of his hand ( he claims I snatched them and I did not). I asked the other employee would he move the truck for me, in which he said he would because he also felt it was safer and easier then where the truck was located. Tim went downstairs and called my phone and asked was I sure I wanted to move the truck. He asked me this question 3 times and each time my answer was yes. The 4th time he asked I did snap and ask him why he is continuing to ask the same question when my answer has not changed. He stated he wanted to make sure that is what I wanted to do. About 15 mins later he came upstairs and said he was ending the job because I was rude. In the middle of a job, he left with his crew and left me stranded because I did not want my truck in an area that he wanted it in. I live in the complex, I know what I am allowed to do and what I am not allowed to do. Not only did he leave me stranded, but he also told my cousin, neighbors, and other people, that he DID NOT KNOW, that he was leaving because I was disrespectful. The fact that he is a business owner and talking about me to people that he does not know and don't know if they know me is really another part of his unprofessional attitude. I will NEVER refer him to ANYONE and the people I did refer him to, I told them to not call him. Also, I was able to do my move under $7000. read more
