Ichiban - Japanese Near Me - Taylor, Michigan

Picked up. Lunch Hibachi; steak and shrimp. Service was 5-star. The little side salad that comes with it was outstanding because of the dressing. The fried rice was as bland as could be. VERY oily. I've had Chinese food fried rice that was fluffy, light and flavorful. This reminded me of sticky rice on Susie. Not sure if the steak was even seasoned. It was also very oily. Not even sure why oil was used in the cooking process. I understand this type of food might not travel well... but at the same time, regular Chinese fried rice travels just fine. But add some flavor and use LESS oil. read more

I had a great time! Our waiter Koby I think was great, I think it was his first waiting job but he did great and was personable. The chef was fun and entertaining he engaged with everyone at the table. The food was a little different for me I did not care for the ginger dressing on the salad but my kids loved it. The clear soup was good. I loved the hibachi chicken, lots of mixed vegetables and the rice was really good. My husband only complaint of his food was that there was no seasoning on his steak. read more

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THE PLACE IN TAYLOR! THEY DO NOT DO THE WATER OR SAKI IN THE MOUTH. ELIZABETH LIKES THE WATER. WE COMPETE TO SEE WHO DOES IT LONGER. ITS FUN AND PART OF THE HIBACHI EXPERIENCE. THEY DID IT IN DECEMBER. IM kinda pissed. Manager said they no longer do it bc of some law suit with a AA recovery. I'm calling bull shit! Other mid scale places do it. This place I think is just cheap! After further review of 6 places, no one has a no squirt in mouth policy! Not even the Ichiban restaurant in Ann Arbor per Madison who was super helpful on the phone! Shawn Green is the VP he is unaware of this being a policy! Todd at Taylor's location made this up or formed a excuse to make it sound good! I asked for water for Mt 12 year old. We have always done this and it's a fun competition. The Taylor location is just making stuff up! .Madison is a manager and there most days. She was delightful. She cared and listened. No mid grade hibachi grill follows this as I researched and called. When I called Taylor to ask the persons who answered the phone was unclear of the policy. When I called Todd back and informed him of the information I found out, he had nothing else to say! If ur looking for the full hibachi grill experience do not go to Taylor! Steak and shrimp and was given 3 or 4 shrimp. I know 2024 is inflation, but December of 2023 we were given 6 to 7 shrimp with our order! Todd the manager offered no solution, just BS about a law suit. I googled about the law suit and nothing came up. Sounds pretty convenient to make stuff up TODD! I await the call from Shawn Green about this situation. Sincerely a hard working citizen taking her husband and 12 year old daughter out for their April birthdays! Maybe next time the manager will do their job or at least try to make the customer feel valued! I've worked in customer service of all kinds all my life. A bull crap law suit sounds pathetic. All I can say is do not go to Taylor Ichabin unless someone else is buying or you have a great coupon. Food was ok, service can use improvement and all 3 times drink service was slow! My family of 4 went here for dinner last night for the first time. We called earlier in the day and made a 7pm reservation. We arrived about 10 min early and was sat exactly at 7pm! Others were coming in with out a reservation and were being told about a 40 min wait, so you don't have to make reservations. This is where they lost a star...while we were sat at 7pm, we didn't receive a drink or the salad/soup till 7:30. The waitress came over pretty quickly after we were sat to take our drink order, offer us appetizers and tell us their specials this month. Then nothing for 30 min. None of us or anyone else that were sat with us ( the table holds 8 people, so if you don't have 8 you are sat with others) so we all sat there. Waiting. Looking and feeling awkward..lol. She finally comes out with the soup and salad and our drinks. The menu calls it a ginger salad and a clear soup. We had no idea what that meant but were excited to try something new. The salad is iceberg lettuce and what I can only describe as a sweeter ranch type dressing. It was sooo good. Even my teens ate all the salad. The soup is a broth with a couple mushrooms and green onions in it. I had started on the salad first, so by the time I ate the soup it was cold. So start with the soup. It was good but I'd rather have 2 of the salad..lol. Just as we were finishing up our cook came to the table. His name was Chef David and he was amazing, though while we were sitting there for 30 min we had a chance to watch the other tables and they all seemed to be having fun. He was very interactive, teased my teens which made everyone laugh and seemed to love his job. Going into this I thought that it would be good but that your probably paying for the experience. Well not only is the experience amazing, the food was phenomenal! My whole family had the chicken and steak combo. Which was about $28 each. The chef starts with making the rice,p and then puts it in your plate, then his does the veggies and puts them on the plate and then he does the protein. You can start munching on the foods he puts on your plate or wait till he is done. We tried waiting but it looked so good we dug in after awhile. The steak was amazing! The chicken was good took..but steak was a tad bit better. I would love to try the shrimp next time. For our family of 4 with 4 pops it was $135. I don't think that's horrible. We've spent close to that at Applebees for far worse food. I didn't think ahead of time to bring cash and tip the chef, so please do that! I felt so bad that I didn't. Everyone as super friendly and we can't wait to come back. We are lucky to have this in our little city of Taylor. read more

well if your into 80-90's dance hall music turned up to 11 like your teen age years you'll love this place!! could not talk to person next to you let alone hear wait staff( or vice Versa). leading to mixed up orders and to say the least an unpleasant dinning experience.... did I ask to maybe turn down the music ?? yes and watched as waiter talked w manager who just shook his head and shrugged his shoulders listen I get it these places can be loud with everything going on but you could not hear anything but music. food was average even once they fixed the orders. Btw the name makes me think of another 90s Favorite.... All I could think was "itchy bunghole" being said in a bevis and butthead voice which is what you may have after eating here read more

I've been here a couple times and both times was just god awful. I love japanese food and go out alot. This restaurant has big shoes to fill, taking the spot of O'Samurais. Ichiban has failed in ever aspect, from the staff to the food, even the portion size is an insult tobthe face, and the price for it all is not worth it at all. read more
