I placed an online order at 5:30. I walked in the restaurant at 6:30 thinking that my order will definitely be ready after 1 hour. The customer service here is horrendous, no server or anyone came to talk to me for 5-10 minutes even though I stood at the front waiting for someone. They stared at me, yet did not say anything. Finally, the lady at the front confirmed my order with me, but she was saying something that I did not order. I told her what I had ordered and then she said "Shoot!" And ran in the back of the restaurant. I did not see her for 20+ minutes. I just sat in the front and had no updates on what had happened. This was extremely frustrating. After 30 minutes, they gave me my order that I ALREADY had waited an hour for. All she said to me was "I'm so sorry" THATS IT. They did not offer me a coupon or anything for waiting a total of 1 1/2 hours for the food. I'm extremely disappointed at this restaurant customer service. Just be wary of this place customer service and DO NOT RECOMMEND ORDERING ONLINE! AS FOR THE FOOD: Also extremely disappointing because I've been a customer of ichiban for years. I ordered steak teriyaki and it tasted like it was heated up in the microwave. Absolutely gross because I've had it here before and it's been good but NOT this time. My family happened to be at the Brea mall after the holiday season and it was so ridiculously busy there was nowhere to eat so, with a quick search we thankfully found Ichiban. Upon walking in, I noticed the photos of locals and celebrities that visited the establishment. The restaurant's ambiance is cozy and comfortable. We sat down and not long after was treated by a very friendly waiter, in fact all of the waiters were so happy, nice and patient. We ordered the 3 item entree special ($20.50 each) and wow, it's an amazing value. Miso, salad, pickled cucumber, and pickled bean sprouts. I selected shrimp and vegetable tempura which was light and crispy, steak tempura (actual steak) and California rolls. Everything came out quickly. Hot foods were hot and cold foods cold. Our drinks were never empty because the servers were so attentive. At the end of our meal, the owner even hooked us up with deep fried oreos, which were deliciously decadent. All in all, for our first visit Inchiban didn't disappoint. I will certainly be visiting again when I'm in Brea. read more

Nice little sushi place in brea. I got their salmon and tuna- both was pretty fresh and tasted amazing with their housemade wasabi ($3 extra). Surprisingly, they have pretty limited options here. This was my first time here and everything was amazing as soon as you walk through the door, It was a warm greeting. The vibe was cozy and welcoming. This was sort of an accident....had to find last minute reservations on Valentines Day because the new Tempo in Brea cancelled everyone's reservations on the day of Valentines Day! Anyways, I've always seen this place because I go to the bike shop in the same strip mall, but never tried it. I'm glad I had the opportunity to visit. Great food, great service. Brea, CA Ichiban has been in business for 34 years, owned and operated by the original owner. We've visited this Japanese restaurant about 4 or 5 times but twice within this past year. The restaurant is located across the street from the Brea Mall closest to Nordstrom side, off of Imperial and Randolph, North-West corner. This is a Japanese owned business and their warm personalized service as well as delicious food is what really earns them a 5 star in my book. When I dine here I really feel this is the next best thing to dining at the owner's home. Masako and Tom are so welcoming and the staff here just goes above and beyond to provide excellent service. Business Hours have adjusted and they are no longer opened for lunch which is a shame because we would come here more often. Now they are open for Dinner service only, but 7 days a week. Sun-TH 5pm - 8pm, Fri.-Sat. 5pm-9pm. Most recently I ordered: 5 stars Beef Sukiyaki with California Roll The Sukiyaki is served with rice, miso soup and salad, but instead of Miso soup I doubled up on the salad with Masako's home made dressing which is SO good, in fact, they sell it by the bottle it's that good. I have not put my finger on what is in it but it is slightly creamy and tangy, it's so so good! At most Japanese restaurants Sukiyaki beef is super thin but not always tender or edible...here they use a slightly thicker cut of the beef but it is super tender and flavorful. The broth is clear and flavorful but not too salty, accompanied by tofu and vegetables like cabbage, carrots and onions...so good! The Sukiyaki had such a homemade taste to it, so warm and comforting on an Autumn evening a delight to enjoy, served in a large shallow cast iron dish. I love the California Rolls here as well, probably more than any other Japanese restaurant I visit . Free Parking, complimentary hot green tea and usually edamame too. Dine in and take out. Parking is free. What's not to love? I look forward to my next visit. read more

Hard to find these family owned places given that many family owned places are now either being retired or sold off to new owners. Lunch is open for take out only and the portions are very generous. Everything I want in a bento is there, high quality ingredients. You really can taste the love and thoughtfulness in every bite here. Dinner is only open from 5pm to 8pm. Although that's a short service time, they get really busy, even on weekdays. You can really tell alot of their customers are repeat loyal customers from over the many years they've been open. We came early on a Saturday night and were greeted by a friendly host who seated us right away. The restaurant had a very family friendly vibe and the service was great. This place has been here as long as I can remember. Not much has changed in that time either. Dimly lit Japanese restaurant with soft spoken, friendly wait staff. It's really like a "mom and pop joint" for Japanese food. Typically I order the salmon teriyaki. This is a delicious option with a nice amount of sauce as to not overwhelm yet be tasty. Of course, I always add some shrimp and vegetable tempura too. Who doesn't love that? If you care to share there are many boat items, I really like the Ichiban Boat, which has my favorites, above, as well as other meats. You can swap out the salmon for some sashimi, if you like, instead. This menu item is charged per person and I think for 2 of us it was around $30 on our last visit. The Family Boat runs a close second. Sushi rolls are a decent portion and seem to be fresh, nothing too amazing just basically good. I did have a hearty steaming bowl of Chicken Udon, and I will definitely be trying that again on a future visit. Filled my tummy with warm love. Main dishes, noodle dishes, sushi, and rolls aside... this place has wonderful salad dressing! Normally the salads are just a skip through thing to eat while you wait for the main course, but the dressing on the salads here at Ichiban is out-of-this-world!
