Really excited to try this location for the first time. We arrived around 5 p.m. on a Saturday and only had to wait about 15 minutes, which wasn't bad at all. Since we had a stroller, we did have to leave it at the entrance and were only able to bring the car seat to the table. We went with the omakase option because we wanted to try the chef's special sushi selections for each person. There were also so many other options to choose from like ramen. Everything was fresh and delicious. They cleared our plates quickly, which I really appreciated.

I came with my fiancé on a weekend 4 PM and there was no wait so we got immediately seated. Place is kind of huge and there are a lot of servers around. 3-4 chefs at night when it gets busy (trust me, they do). And food has been very consistent every time i come here. Appetizer from kitchen or sushi are all very consistent. My favorite is spicy garlic edamame and their tri pepper salmon. New thing I like is buttered shrimp! Lunch special has smaller menu (no yuzu yellowtail, no bluefin tuna, no jumbo scallop, no sashimi) but still worth the price since sashimi, bluefin tuna and jumbo scallop is limited quantity.

Fantastic, fantabulous, wonderful! This was my first time coming here but the experience was great! The salmon was delicious. Every piece of sushi we tried was good and they didn't just load it down with rice. The meal also came with a good variety of other foods and the chicken skewers they periodically brought around were excellent. The restaurant was clean though a bit loud. The servers were attentive and swift, and they did a great job explaining how to order.

Came out for lunch on a random weekday, got the lunch 29.99 special. Good quality fish for the price, especially the eel and the yellowtail! Rice was a little on the mushy side, but the ration of fish to rice was balanced. Also pleasantly surprised and satisfied with the ramen flavor and noodle texture on the ramen bar menu! Usually ramen is an afterthought item to AYCE places, but this was delicious and hit the spot on a chilly day. Thank you TJ for fantastic and attentive service. He carefully walked us through how to order and questions on menu. Would come again!

The nigiri options are pretty good and the yellowtail sushi with green sauce was very nice. The yellowtail and tuna rolls were also very fresh and packed with flavor. The inside is quite big with plenty of tables, but even then this place gets packed even early during lunch hours and we had to wait 45 minutes on the waitlist to get seated. It's a little annoying because their lunch AYCE ends at 2pm and we were sat at 2pm and they told us it was dinner menu only. The ambiance is simple yet modern. The service was pretty good. You basically get a QR code that you can and then you use your phone to make the selections and send it to the kitchen and it is brought to the table. Besides that, this was a great AYCE sushi option in Brea and the locals clearly know because the place is loud and packed the whole time we were dining there. There is plenty of parking all around the restaurant as it's located within a strip mall wedged between other restaurants and Ralphs.

Celebrated our wedding anniversary at X-Fish Izakaya and finally got to try the spot we've been hearing so much about. We came in with no expectations and waited about 30 minutes--not bad at all considering how busy they get. The ambiance was beautiful, with high open windows bringing in lots of natural light, giving the space a bright and airy feel. We decided to go with the omakase AYCE, but it came with a few surprises. It's not exactly a true all-you-can-eat experience--there's a limit of 20 pieces of nigiri per round (up to 3 rounds), plus only 2 hot items per order. It felt a bit restrictive and slightly misleading for AYCE, which was a little disappointing--especially since many AYCE spots have similar limits on premium items. That said, the highlight was definitely the bluefin tuna--fresh, flavorful, and worth it. The omakase option gives you access to more premium cuts compared to the regular AYCE, where you're limited to just a couple pieces. Overall, a mixed experience: great ambiance and quality fish, but just be aware of the limitations before you go in. Still a fun anniversary dinner and glad we finally tried it!

Beautifully yet minimalistic decoration. Service was good, slightly slow due to the lunch rush at 1:15pm. Wait time at check in on the iPad stated 20-45 minutes. But we were seated within 15 minutes. So that was a total plus. Good was delicious. Some of the best miso soup I've had. Nice deep miso flavor. Didn't taste watery or bland. Would have loved more seaweed in the soup though. All of the nigiri were good. Loved the fish to rice ration. Bigger pieces of fish to smaller balls of rice. The tri peppered salmon was way better than the tri peppered tuna. Thought it a bit stingy that you could only order the eel once per person; 2 pieces max. Ordered the shrimp tempura and the vegetable tempura. The dipping sauce for the shrimp tempura was too light and bland for me. The vegetable tempura I found quite lacking. It literally only had 3 pieces of vegetables. Out of everything we ordered, we liked the Kiss You roll the best. I could DEVOUR that one. Lovely flavor and no guilt with the carbs. I could eat DOZENS of them in one sitting! 9/10 would recommend and would return.

Came here on a Saturday at 5pm and the wait was about 1 hour. Checked in on the waitlist for a party of 2 in front of the restaurant and went for a quick drink across the street while we waited. I noticed not all tables were filled when we were seated, probably due to lack of staff that night? Not sure. Either way, you scan a QR code to order your food, including drinks. Service was very slow and the food came out slowly too. Our first round took about 25 mins before arriving - we immediately put our second order in when our food came. We ordered the standard Ayce for weekend, not the omakase. I will say the omakase is a good choice if you're really hungry or if you like bluefin tuna. My favorite nigiri of the night was the seared tuna, so fatty and delicious. Everything else was fresh as well. I will say their regular tuna tasted odd though. X fish is a good place in Brea for Ayce, I've come twice now. I'd say give it a shot if you're craving decent sushi, just make sure you have the time to spend waiting! Overall ambiance is calm, even with lots of people. Parking is easy if you park in the structure. Restrooms are located past the sushi bar.

Price decent and quality was good. Went on a weekday lunch and no wait. So many options to choose from. Definitely top AYCE sushi in OC.

All you can eat sushi! Sign me up! I've had this place bookmarked for some time and finally made my way to brea for a birthday party. I had some time to spend for lunch and I walked in with no reservations. It was around 11am and the restaurant was already filling up. The restaurant itself was brightly lit and the set up looked very modern. Their AC was blasting so it felt pretty cold inside. They have a wide variety of options from rolls, to hand rolls, to nigiri. They also have udon and ramen options. Plus appetizers as well. The rice to fish ratio for the nigiri was perfect. Not too much rice where they try to fill you up. The service was okay though. They did check in periodically but when I asked for bowls to share the udon we ordered, I had to ask 3 diff waiters to finally get me the bowls for our table. Aside from that, they were friendly overall.

UPDATE: my family and I continue to come back every month or so. It's been a fantastic experience. We have found that arriving before 6pm seems the best for minimal wait times for our party of 4. We've come on busy weekends and also weekdays. If you can arrive before 6pm, the wait time hasn't been longer than 20-30 min. It might be more challenging if you have larger parties. But the staff are super friendly and efficient. The quality of the food has been consistent and it's a real pleasure to experience. The fish tastes clean and fresh, and always flavorful. The online ordering of the other non-sushi is easy and convenient to do. Turnaround times are fast despite how busy they get. Still super impressed by this restaurant and HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I've been to Buena Park location before but decided to try this one since reviews seemed a bit better. We came on Valentine's Day, fully expecting it to be busy, but we ended up waiting about 2-3 hours and didn't get seated until 9:30pm. Service here is the same as the Buena Park location, you'd have to flag servers down to place orders. They don't really check in on you consistently like other restaurants do. What I do like about X-Fish is rice-to-fish ratio. Rice portions are small and fish cuts are generous. Peppered shrimp nigiri, salmon, and bluefin tuna were really good. Only item I would avoid is ikura. It didn't taste fresh at all and honestly had an off taste that made my stomach hurt. Appetizers are solid like croquettes, cheese balls, and edamame, but miso soup came out cold.. which was strange. If you're looking for an AYCE sushi spot with attentive service, I'm not sure this location or Buena Park one would be best choice. To be fair, host did try his best to seat us sooner, which I appreciated. Overall, servers could use more training in customer service since they seemed more engaged chatting with chefs than interacting with customers.

Amazing. Everything about this visit was good. We came here right after they had opened. The service was good. The fish were clean and fresh. The restaurant was clean and well-lit. Ordering food was a breeze, and they had a lot of good stuff to choose from. Their premium items were delicious and just leaves you wanting more. I highly recommend trying this location, getting here at opening, and getting the premium set.

X-Fish Izakaya Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - X-Fish Izakaya

Yelp and website state they take reservations, but when I called, they said they do not take reservations. anyone know the real answer?

They are always quite busy. You show up and you sign in on their guest registry and they will notify you when your table is ready. They do not take reservations.

Does everyone in your party have to do the omakase? Or can some of them do the signature?

Everyone in your party must opt to the same one-- either the omakase or the signature.

Does everyone at the table must order AYCE if only one person wants AYCE?

    I would assume so.

I understand it's AYCE, but do the rolls come in half rolls or only full rolls?

Rolls only come in full rolls. No half rolls.

How much do they charge for lunch on weekend? weekday?

Lunch X fish option is only available from open - 2pm, Monday through Friday.

    Do you guys have uni?

    Unfortunately, no uni sushi.

    Is the omakase AYCE?

No it's not. You get an Omakase plate but just 1 plate chef's choice

Can you eat here on your own or does it require groups of 2+?

You can be a party of 1

    Reservations not available on weekends?

Yes, or you can use the yelp app to join the waiting list

How long is the typical wait time at 7pm on Fridays with no reservation? I was only able to get a 10pm reservation

their reservation isn't accurate, you can put yourself online first, and then, on Saturday I had to wait for an hour, luckily the main street in Brea seems to be colorful and worthy taking a stroke down the Birch street

Once I tried their sushi for the first time, they quickly became one of my favorites in OC. They fly their fish in every Friday and you can literally taste the freshness. I always start off with the Blue crab appetizer that's wrapped with salmon on the outside and asparagus. Their sushi rolls are all solid here--I can't recommend the signature Chubby roll enough. Eat with spoon. The delicate potato crisp finishes the bite with a little crunch. Udon picante - bell peppers, quinoa and 2 jumbo shrimp. Love the heat level. Comfort food at its best. Salmon parmesan - Nikkei sushi - seared salmon, parmesan bitter, eel sauce , arare, lime. Amazing. O toro sushi - the fattiest cut of tuna. Eat as is. Again chef prepared. No added seasoning required. Parri maki - fried shrimp, cream cheese, seared tuna topped with chimichurri, aji amarillo, chalaquita, ponzu. Food experience was enhanced by their impeccable taste in music. Super chill, soft beats stream the restaurant. With its perfect lighting too sets all the good moods for us. Don't wait for this fine dining experience of Japanese and Peruvian fusion. Note: when they ask if you want soy sauce, say No, thank you. It would be a shame to kill the taste of a beautiful dish with any added sauce. Kampai! Salud!

At first I thought it didn't look appealing from the outside but when we walked in we were greeted by Thong which we later found out he was the General Manager. This place is super cute inside and the food was delicious. We loved how the setting was intimate and it even had a curtain for more privacy which made us feel like we were excluded from others and felt like we were completely alone on a date, which was extremely nice! Thong was friendly and gave excellent recommendations on food. We also had Elyse serve us with a smile and such a spectacular personality. Before we left with our full belly's, I made sure to let Thong know that we would be back and how much we enjoyed the super friendly service. I highly recommend both the Ramen & Sushi

I had the Crazy Diamond Sushi Roll and the Spicy Egg Rolls. The Crazy came with spicy tuna, which I…read moredidn't want, and they subbed more crispy chicken for me. Both the dishes were so good! And after we ate, the server brought a small portion of Matcha nice cream sur la maison! I have been here a few times but never wrote a review before. The food is always the same high quality. Sorry the photos are not the entire dish. I was so hungry I forgot to take a picture.
