signature ayce (assortment of nigiri and agedashi tofu)

finally got to try x-fish as we've always gone to aburi for ayce and can say we probably won't be back. we came on a friday afternoon and it wasn't that busy as the wait was only 5 minutes. we still had to check in on their ipad and wait outside in the heat when there were plenty of empty/open tables. it's a casual establishment with plenty of seating and i liked the kitchen being right in the middle of the restaurant. service was just okay as well, didn't really provide any warm or friendly service. while the quality was decent and they do have a decent variety of sushi, ramen, udon, and other appetizers/dishes, i can say everything was just mediocre. i do enjoy that their fish to rice ratio is great but the only nigiri that we really enjoyed (for both taste and quality) were the bluefin tuna, jumbo scallop, unagi, ikura, salmon/katsuo salmon, and yuzu yellowtail. even for some of the nicer nigiri, there was a limit to only 2 orders per person. we also tried their truffle salmon roll which luckily their rolls come with 8 pieces but this one didn't have any truffle notes as it was overwhelmed with the crabmeat notes. the shrimp tempura udon was also decent but it had a fishy taste from the shrimp. i'd say the best things we had were their garlic edamame and gyozas. they're also called izakaya but our server told us they don't really offer any skewers unless the chef chooses to cook some and they start passing around their "pass around menu". for the price ($42) of their ayce, you could definitely find better places. unless you really enjoy rolls, this might be the spot for you.

This ayce sushi spot has been on my radar for a minute so I'm so glad I finally gave it a try! The quality of the fish is pretty good! I went on a weekday, so the waitlist wasn't too long. There's not much room to sit and wait for your table to be ready, but you can walk around the nearby shops. There's a QR code menu that you can order from and your server gives you a paper to write down how many pieces of sushi you want. Even though you can order a lot, you're not compromising on quality for quantity. I recommend the hamachi, tri pepper tuna, and unagi. Service was good. The wait for rolls didn't take too long. I would definitely be back with friends!

My family and I happened to try this Brea location of X-Fish Izakaya by chance and it has been one of our favorite finds of the summer. The service is always friendly and attentive. The restaurant is laid out nicely and always clean when we visit. The sushi is also tasty and fresh. X-Fish Izakaya is probably one of our favorite AYCE sushi spots in the area. Located in Downtown Brea, X-Fish Izakaya is situated in an area with several shops and restaurants. There aren't any parking spots directly in front of the restaurant, however, the Downtown Brea area has free parking garages, one of which is very close to the establishment. Their menu offers several options, mainly sushi, but also a good amount of kitchen items and ramen selections. Some of my favorite items include the: - Bluefin Tuna - Tri Peppered Salmon - Truffle Salmon Roll - Salmon Lover Roll Flavor is perfect for all of these items and the freshness and quality, especially for it being AYCE, is on point. If you're thinking about giving this Brea location of X-Fish Izakaya a try, definitely do it. We've been to one other location, and this one blows them out of the water on all accounts of food and service.

TLDR; Fresh fish, friendly service, and lots of options. Walk-in or reserve on Yelp. Order the pepper salmon and the yuzu yellowtail. Recommend trying all the limited options (carpaccio, jumbo scallop, roe, bluefin, smoked salmon)! SERVICE Great service, delicious fresh fish, and a spacious clean dining area. Shout out to the wonderful hosts! The food did take a little bit longer to come out, but there is no limit to the amount of rounds you can have. You can order up to 50 pieces per round on their paper menu and then order rolls and apps with their QR code. PARKING Free plaza parking or street parking! Located in a beautiful plaza with lots of eateries including boba, Thai food, coffee shop, desserts, and more. RESERVATIONS Join the waitlist on Yelp or walk-in. COST Around $40 pp and well worth. There's also a more expensive premium option. FOOD The rice to fish ratio was PERF, a slight bite of rice with tender fish. The pepper salmon was my favorite. Sadly you can only get some premium items once so make sure you get those! I also really liked spicy scallop and yellowtail. The eel also surprisingly wasn't boney and delicious. Their rolls were also really good but super filling. Def recommend trying their baked scallop or crawfish rolls. APPS Their miso soup and garlic edamame were perfect to refresh your palettes. Also really liked the mussels! I'd pass on the sweet tamago, it didn't really taste like a typical sweet egg. OVERALL A great place to get your sushi fix! Clean, spacious, and quick to get seated during off hours. Friendly servers and lots of sushi options include sashimi, apps, ramen, skewers, and rolls. Would have liked some kind of dessert like fruit or icecream at the end but that's just me being phat :-) .

Okay... this place is SO good. We finally tried it and everything we ordered was honestly a hit. The fish tasted super fresh, the quality was definitely there, and the presentation was beautiful without feeling over the top. The menu has so many options, so it's a fun spot to share a bunch of dishes with your table. We didn't realize this place is AYCE which WE LOVE! Service was friendly, our food came out pretty quickly, and the whole vibe inside is really nice for a date night or dinner with friends. Definitely one of those spots we'd come back to when we're craving good sushi and Japanese bites.

I came here and had AYCE for an early dinner date. I didn't have to wait for seating. The taste of everything was good. My favorites were some of the sushi rolls. I also had the edamame, cheese balls, and ramen. The staff were helpful. I was stuffed and there were still plenty of more options to try. Previously, I came to this same location a few years ago for someone's birthday dinner and it was probably one of the worst service I've ever had, so I was hesitant to come back. I'm glad to say I had a positive experience this 2nd time, and I would be open to returning again.

We took advantage of their lunch price on a weekday. For a table of seven, we waited about 20 to 30 minutes to be seated. We all opted for the all you can eat menu, but I believe that X-fish also offers an Omakase option or just à la carte. The server provided us with a paper where you'll order all of your nigiri. There's a limit of 10 nigiri pieces per individual per round, but there's unlimited number of rounds within the 90 minute eating period. To order the other items, you scan a QR code and place your order using the website for your table. Just note that if there's multiple people placing orders on phones, there's a five minute wait. before each order can be submitted. I loved the rice to fish ratio for all the nigiri. The fish quality was superb. I also really enjoyed all of the rolls that we got, especially the no rice ones. The ramen and the udon were equally phenomenal. Overall fantastic experience at X-fish. Be prepared to wait because they don't take reservations unless the party is 15+.

X-Fish Izakaya is one of the better AYCE sushi spots I've been to in SoCal. Their service, food, and ambiance all hit the mark. I dined here recently with my husband and his cousin. We wanted to take his cousin out for his birthday. He'd never been here so it was a great introduction to this establishment. This is located in Downtown Brea. There is a parking garage near it. We arrived around 6:30pm on a Friday and the garage was getting full. We checked in on their kiosk and waited for 30 mins, not bad. The restaurant is spacious. They offer table and bar seating. This is great for casual dining. I love the neutral tone paired with the warm lighting throughout. My husband and I have been here before two years ago. The food is just as we remembered! The sushi was fresh, S I L K Y, and packed with flavor. It's the time and effort put into their dishes that I appreciated. We ordered some of the same pieces in the second round and they were consistent. Even when the restaurant was filling up, the quality and customer service stayed the same. We also ordered two beers to share among us: Sapporo and Kirin. The Sapporo was especially smooth and crisp. It made the ingredients of the sushi pop more for me. The Kirin didn't compare, but did the job. The servers would check on us periodically. If you can't find yours at the moment, there is always someone available that you can flag over. We requested to have more ginger and that did not take long to fulfill. By the end of the third round, I asked our cousin if he would come back. He undoubtedly said yes! We were happy to hear he had a great time. Thank you, X-Fish Izakaya, for being a dependable AYCE spot even after two years since our last visit. I can't wait to return!

Make sure to join waitlist unless you like waiting in line!!! One of my favorite sushi places. I really liked the riceless rolls like the kiss me roll/tuna and shrimp tempura one and some of the peppered salmon sushi. Service was pretty fast. Inside was casual. A bit loud though so hard to talk. Would come back for more!

Got seated right away on Thursday 2:30pm! Lots of seating available and staffs were friendly and attentive. Went for the omakase option and was left STUFFED and satisfied. My favorite was the scallop, salmon sushi, and omakase set! i love how there's also finger foods, tempura and ramen included in the AYCE!

Came here for their lunch time special all you can eat, which was $30 per person. Such a great deal! Their fish was super fresh and they had a great variety of fish, rolls, and other dishes to pick from. I would say the stand outs for me were the salmon nigiri and the kiss me roll.

    Eric L.

Sushi is very fresh and very little rice in every piece, make it taste even better. Service is super fast and friendly Ambience is a bit loud for me, may be because it is crowded, and they have I think techno music when i was there, but not an issue overall experience is great I will be back

Ask the Community - X-Fish Izakaya

If we choose the Omakase option, can we skip some of the sushi and just order the ones we want on the omakase set? thanks.

Typically, that's not how omakase works, but if you don't like something, you're not supposed to be able to choose. Omakase is chefs choice. If it's an already known set, then it's just a set. Now, you can tell them that you do not want…

Yelp and website state they take reservations, but when I called, they said they do not take reservations. anyone know the real answer?

They are always quite busy. You show up and you sign in on their guest registry and they will notify you when your table is ready. They do not take reservations.

Does everyone in your party have to do the omakase? Or can some of them do the signature?

Everyone in your party must opt to the same one-- either the omakase or the signature.

Does everyone at the table must order AYCE if only one person wants AYCE?

    I would assume so.

I understand it's AYCE, but do the rolls come in half rolls or only full rolls?

Rolls only come in full rolls. No half rolls.

How much do they charge for lunch on weekend? weekday?

Lunch X fish option is only available from open - 2pm, Monday through Friday.

    Do you guys have uni?

    Unfortunately, no uni sushi.

    Is the omakase AYCE?

No it's not. You get an Omakase plate but just 1 plate chef's choice

Can you eat here on your own or does it require groups of 2+?

You can be a party of 1

    Reservations not available on weekends?

Yes, or you can use the yelp app to join the waiting list

How long is the typical wait time at 7pm on Fridays with no reservation? I was only able to get a 10pm reservation

their reservation isn't accurate, you can put yourself online first, and then, on Saturday I had to wait for an hour, luckily the main street in Brea seems to be colorful and worthy taking a stroke down the Birch street

Our server wasn't very personable but also not rude or terrible. I felt a little rushed even with a small menu. Being that I had never been there before, I wasn't sure what to get so I pretty much just blurted out whatever. What we ordered: 1) Black deluxe chicken paitan with pork - the broth was so tasty, it was absolutely delicious. The pork slices were generous, however, it was DRY. 2) Pork chashu - for my kid. They loved the broth as well and also felt that the pork slices were dry. I wanted to give 4 out of 5 stars, but I am going to hand them a 3. I loved the tasty broth, but the pork was too dry. How could you mess that up as a ramen restaurant? The portions looked a little smaller than what I am used to paying for much less money. That photo of my black deluxe chicken paitan with pork is very deceiving. It looks like a lot, but it definitely wasn't. I usually can't finish my bowl of ramen in one sitting and take the other half home. I barely had any broth in there, and being that the broth was very good, I was disappointed to run out of it before I was even done with the noodles and meat. Would I return? Sure. I liked the food. It's not a place I would go out of my way to eat at, but if I was around the neighborhood and wanted ramen, I would dine there again.

The restaurant itself is VERY small, with about 4 small tables indoor max. There's outdoor seating available but it is not shaded, so it isn't the best option if you're eating a hot bowl of ramen on a warm summer day. The layout of the restaurant is very strange, because the seating area is literally smacked within the restroom and the kitchen - so you're either seated right by the bathroom or beside the kitchen area. Parking is located in the rear. Service was very good. I was greeted right away, with the order taken and my food served promptly. It was our first time here. It was pretty slow for an early Sunday night dinner around 6. Nobody…read morewas there, but by the time we started eating, the place got packed. It's a small, quaint, unassuming place, but their kitchen cranks out rich flavors. We all got different things so we could try out what they have to offer. I was the only one brave enough to try the (bulgogi) mazemen, and it did not disappoint. I followed the instructions on the table & I liked it w/ the vinegar! Another person at our table got the donkatsu w/ rice; it was gobbled up pretty quick so I imagine it was delicious. The other 2 were in the mood for tonkatsu ramen - 1 got spicy, the other, plain. It looked like there was a lot of green onions for my taste, but they didn't complain. Another hit was the karagge chicken and gyoza - both came w/ tasty sauces! It's a great restaurant in an area filled with other great spots, so we'll be back!

The service was great and our server was incredibly friendly! My husband got the bulgogi mazemen and thought it was flavorful. They do give rice at the end to help you soak up all the leftover flavors. I got the tofu veg mazeman and was incredibly surprised with how flavorful it was. It was so delicious. I did take the kale out of it because it seemed like it wouldn't fit the flavor profile and I think it was a good call. No additional sauces or additions are needed. Highly recommend stopping by the next time you're in the area.
