To me this is the definition of a 3/5 star teriyaki spot starting with the flavor and quality all the way down through the portion size and cost/value. The sauce is goopy and a bit too salty. The dressing for the salad isn't the classic teriyaki stable, but a sticky poppyseed dressing. The chicken and tofu teriyaki were both decent, my nod actually goes to the latter. When driving through the Renton Highlands and looking for that teriyaki spot, you may find yourself on Northeast Sunset Boulevard, and then you see it. In a well-known local strip mall is 'I LUV Teriyaki'. It is definitely a family run and has been around darn near close to 20 years (way before 2006). Long enough to have great local customers, which include some Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks from 2013. Be advised that it's not the snazziest place, and typically nothing special on the interior. But this place is clean and consistent in their service, and the food they present. It's tasty, and you be happy to come back for more. You can definitely ask for their teriyaki combos, which can include chicken, beef (sliced), salmon, and pork. Rice or yakisoba are definitely available with the right amount of sweet yakisoba seasoning. Don't forget to look on the wall of the photos of their specials to include curry and a very wide selection of sushi rolls. Today, I get my old stand-by, regular chicken teriyaki. This includes flavorful thigh and rib meat, but lean chicken breast is also available and also tasty. All meals come with a salad. And miso soup can be had for a little extra. As for drinks, a nice selection of Coca-Cola products are on display - no fountain drinks at this location. But not to worry, many orders are take-out and they are happy repeat customers. Dining is available, but be advised when it gets busy. Seating can be limited. And there is usually only one person behind the counter, taking orders and serving the customers choosing to dine-in. And that person, either the owner or staff is friendly and efficient as possible. Please be kind. Are there better places in the city? Sure. But this is YOUR neighborhood teriyaki joint. And you will happily come back, not only for the convenience, but because it's tasty and you can really say 'I LUV TERIYAKI' Stop by again!!! I will!! read more

I enjoy the teriyaki here. What you see is what you get. Food is ready within 10-15 minutes and if you want delivery, a lot of the app places do them. If you want fried rice with teriyaki, it's extra. The workers are nice and they seem to have a lot of regulars. My parents stopped coming here for a variety of reasons. For example, they mentioned that they ordered the beef short rib, but it appeared that most of the meat was missing. I told them to give this restaurant another chance and ordered the beef short rib to see if I had a different experience... unfortunately not. At first it looked like plenty of meat, but hidden underneath it was a bunch of short rib bones with the meat cut off. Either the cooks are taking some of the meat for themselves or the owner is trying to cut costs this way. Most of the ingredients (e.g. meat, vegetables) didn't taste fresh, although I did like the overall flavor of the food. Some of the meat was burnt, which apparently is a consistent issue here. I've been coming to this little place every since Toshi Teriyaki place closed down it was good at first until Everytime I've gone I always got a hair on my spicy teriyaki and it was always that nothing else's I got a hair around 5-7 times and the last time I got fed up and never went again. But not only did I get a hair in my spicy teriyaki there was hairs on the teriyaki saw bottle and she denied everything saying we planted the hair ourselves and declined a refund when we asked and she had the audacity to ask me if I still wanted the food. read more

This last time I went, the gyoza was super yummy! They are quick to make orders. I've ordered in person or on the phone and it's always ready in 10 minutes or less. Is it the best I've ever had? This negative review is not about the staff. The woman who helped me at the counter was very nice and pleasant. However, the chicken teriyaki was underwhelming. They don't mix the chicken with the sauce fully - they only squeeze the sauce on top. Personally, not enough sauce for me. Got the standard Teriyaki and the rice was kinda mushy and the new sauce they have isn't great, it's got no sweetness and it is weirdly blob like. These guys do good work! Pulling into it makes me feel like I'm about to armed-rob somewhere, and the ambience continues. Amazingly, this is exactly what I want in a teriyaki place. I want divey, I want somewhere that feels like if I went at the wrong hour, alone and unarmed - I might become dinner. I want an element of danger with my teriyaki when it's late! I mean, yes, this is Newcastle and Renton's disputed border so there could be rebel ambushes from the various, separatist, factions. In other words, the danger associated is more than in my head. Thing is, on top of the "Port Authority during the Ed Koch years" ambiance, which is really why you need to come here - their chicken breast teriyaki is off the chain! It actually has the right level of char, it actually has the right level of char! I had to repeat myself because so few teriyaki places left within the county seem to remember that a good, grilled, bird needs to taste grilled. They also do an exceptional job on their rice and salad. Is it five stars, no. Five stars implies literally perfect. So in this case, my criteria for a teriyaki place to earn five stars means I need to be begging to eat more as the paramedics load me into an ambulance after I got shot in the parking lot. So, to conclude. Two things. 1. If anyone knows a seriously divey/sketchy teriyaki place with a good chicken breast HMU. 2. Either this place needs to be more dangerous, or they need to charge more. The food is absolutely disgusting here. Very angry we spent almost 50 dollars here for sushi, gyoza, and inedible shrimp teriyaki. The teriyaki was not flavorful at all. The shrimp had no grill marks, was cold and NOT cleaned or fresh, and served over a bed of lettuce? Yuck. What a way to rip customers off!!! At least clean the shrimp!!! It was obvious it wasn't grilled, it was precooked shrimp that was boiled. Absolutely unacceptable. I don't care how nice she tried to act, they are serving bland crap! It's been the same for years! My new favorite teriyaki! I love that this place has more than just teriyaki, they have a great assortment of rolls, tempura and even curry. I tried chicken teriyaki, spicy tuna and spider. Wonton soup to die for!! Mongolian beef, also excellent, tender, flavorful. General Tso's chicken more of a sweet/sour and a bit too sour for our taste. The General Tso's chicken was so moist and delicious, and both the regular and spicy teriyaki were terrific! They're always so nice and fast! It's a great place to get some rolls if you're looking for something low key. Everything is fresh and the portions are large. My kids love the katsu and we like the wide variety of menu items. The short ribs are good, they do the job when I need a quick kalbi fix.
