That said, I usually come in here to kill time thinking I won't buy anything, but then I find something amazing and can't resist because I know it'd be just about impossible to get anywhere else... Last time I managed to find a volume of エコエコアザラク (Eko Eko Azarak). They also sell some of my favorite art books, like Curses by George Wylesol and Vermis by Plastiboo... If you're interested in manga, it's definitely worth visiting. I've seen them selling works by some of my favorite classic mangaka like Leiji Matsumoto, Shigeru Mizuki, Kazuo Umezu, Junji Ito, etc. and they even have things like GARO magazine back issues lying around.

I found myself with time today; the Open sign was lit and there were signs of life so I parked and moseyed over, full of the spirit of adventure; I tried the door (as it turned out, too gently) to no avail; the door appeared to be locked. I peered through the glass, hand shielding my eyes, and spotted the suggestion of a man advancing toward me. Out of several charitable hypotheses concerning the store's locked status I did not foresee the misfortune about to befall me, a misfortune that took the form of a jarringly rude missive from what I identified as the owner of the shop that the door was in fact unlocked and required a harder push than my dainty efforts had brought to bear. I was so taken aback at the spitting venom in the owner's voice that I felt my body retreat from the open doorway before the incredibly heavy and hard to open door had even had a chance to open fully. I had called looking for specific comics ( I seem to call hobby stores with very niche requests) and the gentleman who answered said he had what I was looking for, and more. Here's the catch, I called 5 mins before close and was 6 mins away. He generously said he would be hanging around the shop and it wouldn't be a bother for me to come in late. Pulled in, and he helped me get everything I needed. Not to mention the cost was incredible fair and well below the budget I had placed for myself. Outside of the amazing customer service, the store is incredibly organized, clean and bright. I'm excited to come back when they aren't closed and browse around.

The owner is always there, greeting you like you're part of the family and going out of his way to help you find exactly what you need - no attitude, just pure enthusiasm. You'll often see familiar faces around, which adds to that cozy, family-like atmosphere, even if everyone's not actually related. Honestly, it's the kind of place that feels like it should have a couch and some comfy chairs in the corner, but that might be a little too dangerous, because I might never want to leave! Having visited every comic book store in Portland, I can honestly say no other place made me feel this welcomed or was as well-organized. Every time I come in, they have exactly what I'm looking for. And to put it in perspective, I live about 45 minutes outside of Portland, and it's always worth the drive. That's how special Comics Adventure is to me.
