Came just to browse, left with a (very reasonably priced) Princess Fiona Funko. Really pleasant shopping experience & the employee working was really nice. He didn't hound us or try to force us to buy anything, but he did point out some great stuff we really liked & may come back for, as well as just chatting us up without being a bother (as some employees I've come across at other stores.) My kid was jonesing for an " outing" a couple weeks ago and I was refusing trips to the mall or Uwajimaya because, well, people. For my kid ( sadly but understandably) shopping = certain endorphin burst. My depressed child was sure the big anime con that had been planned for a year in Seattle was gonna be cancelled and was pretty down in the dumps. It was gonna be a big parent free adventure on a train and in a hotel with friends. Much anticipated. ( and again, understandably but sadly it was indeed cancelled until 2021). This little store has a few outposts, this one is behind Brickyard Tavern in a weird little building with a small parking lot. There is usually broken glass in the parking lot. I advise street parking. It was mostly empty which is good these days for social distancing but bad for their business. They have all kinds of cool and interesting collectible type things: comic books, pop figures, superhero stuff, anime stuff ( the reason we were here),buttons, some costumey stuff, too much stuff. Honestly, it makes my head explode. We looked unsuccessfully for The Walking Dead things for me, because I have been bingewatching that, and do not really have anything else I fangurrl over but did not see anything I craved. Kid found an anime figure for about $25 I think, which for figures is not bad. Reportedly the kid saw it elsewhere for $40 so it was a " deal." I have no idea which anime it is from, I have mostly lost track of them all. It is not my money anymore which I am happy about. There was a definite endorphin burst for the teenager. I saw it happen. It lasted a few hours. I doubt they will stay open right now given current conditions, but if you get a chance, take a look. It is a fun little outing. read more

They are one of the largest comic book retailers in the country with three locations in Oregon and one in LA. If the title you're looking for isn't here, they will order it for you. I received a friendly greeting the moment I walked in the store. I received outstanding customer service from Amelia. She was friendly and knowledgeable. This place is pretty great if you are a comic book fan by the look of it. I was used to the stores in Portland which go by the same name and are more like interesting gift shops which is my jam. I will say that the store is set up well and looks organized. Didn't really get help or acknowledgement from the counter person but to be fair I walked in....walked around and walked out since they really had very little to draw me in. read more

I went buy during their posted hours, only to find that it was not open. Called and left a voice mail asking about hours, but no return call. The store front is interesting, and from what you can see of the inventory, looks like a cool place. I like this comic book shop, and don't get to visit it often enough. We were there recently for Free Comic Book Day, and it was really cool. We got there 30 minutes before they opened, and the clerk (manager/owner?) was already there tidying up the place and let us browse until they "opened". We picked up some Super Mario Bros toys and a "Lesbian Space Pirates" comic (a #1 issue). There were plenty of mainstream comics and graphic novels (Marvel/DC/DarkHorse) as well as lesser known stuff. They have a lot of figures running the gamut from superhero (superman/batman/spider-man/etc) to television (BTVS, Star Trek, Simpsons) to movies (Star Wars, Nightmare Before Christmas, Serenity). If you still collect comic books (individual issues), you can get a box at the store and have standing orders for whatever title you're in to. I'm not that patient (prefer my comics collected in a graphic novel w/no ads) and I don't have the disposable income (of a teenager) anymore, though, so I have not taken advantage of that service. They're really nice, so even if you're not a comic book nerd, but need to get a gift for someone who is, they can lead the way. Don't be afraid, they won't bite. read more

I was looking to buy some comic book long boxes (golden age, silver age, and bronze age). I buy locally always, unless it is completely unavailable locally. I Googled "comic book long box Beaverton, Oregon" and Things From Another World came up and turns out they charge about the same as the manufacturer (BCW) charges. Other than the price being incredibly competitive for a brick and mortar store, the staff were incredibly nice and helpful. In grabbing the long boxes the clerk instantly knew I accidentally grabbed magazine long boxes and helped me out right quick. Nothing but helpfulness and smiles here. Thank you. read more

I don't consider myself to be a huge comic book fan - I have a passing, casual interest in the medium which can be highly specialized: I loved Sam Keith's Maxx and the old Cerberus comics, to give you an idea. Occasionally, something will come out that I do enjoy, such as Fables, and I need a place to go where people are knowledgeable and able to help a relative noob like myself. That is exactly why I like TfaW: every time I go in, the people are friendly and helpful, not rude and condescending like some other shops I've been to in downtown PDX. They seem to have an encyclopedic command of all comics and games, so even questions about my exact tastes are answered with satisfaction. The selection of simply awesome figurines, books, statues, games and accessories is impressive, as well. I'm amazed that they were able to cram so much into a modestly -sized store. If ever you need a curio or two, and are not sure where to go, give Things a shot. They know what they're doing and they're happy to help. read more

Stopped by here to look around. Lots of graphic novel selection! Lots of collectables. Friendly people! My kids and I wandered around a bit. Even though i didn't find what we were looking for, the place is still cool. Not easy to find a place with a large selection of Japanese anime. But they do have lots of mecha figures and models. As well as other bad ass figures and toys. It was hard to restrain myself and not spend a paycheck on lots of stuff. I noticed the also had a various RPG things as well. Posters. I recently discovered a love of Funko POP items and have been driving around manically getting them. Of course this place was on the list and I checked it out. Stocked full of just what I wanted and so much more. It's a comic/cult bonanza here. Incredible figures, tons of comics and comic collections, so many toys and knickknacks; and the best part is the ship to store. I found a lot of great things online and simply ordered and shipped, picked them up and was very happy. It didn't take long to get to the store and they opened it up to show me before I left. I've had places where they just give it to you and if you're not thinking about it you'll go home and realize the box for the item is damaged. Collectors are NOT happy with damaged boxes, no sir. The staff have all been friendly to me when I start up a convo or ask for help, and of course geeking out with them is always fun. I haven't come in when an event is going on, just missed free comic day! I am sure to keep coming back for their great products. read more

This is a great Store in the tradition of local comic/game stores. What makes it great is the people. So helpful and friendly, especially the manager, James. Good selection overall, but kinda short on back issues. Lots of tpb's and pop toys. Great subscriptions deal too. They host some games but I'd like to see more. She was friendly and helpful and made it a great experience. my kiddos love to come here & the staff is beyond awesome. they really roll out the red carpet for events like free comic book day. the TFAW staff are so enthusiastic & friendly. I also appreciate that they have a selection of comics geared towards younger readers as well as a modern selection of little golden book titles like star wars, ghostbusters (both the 1984 & 2016 versions), Scooby-doo, Disney, etc right at kid eye level. we always find something when we visit TFAW & my small humans especially enjoy the wide variety of blind bags on hand - again, ghostbusters (did you get that we are obsessed at the moment?), avengers, batman, Disney, etc. the shop many be on the small side but believe me, it is packed with wall to wall goodness! read more

I really really wanted to give them another star but.... I just cant. Okay... so I am in no way a comic person. I did however end up with like 6 HUGE comic book boxes full of comics.... dont ask.... they just showed up one day and wouldnt go home lol. so after years of having these around I finally open the boxes. I find that none of them are in plastic or even organized. A friend who knows about comics came over (with the bribe of a good home made meal and movies) and helped me organize them so I would know what I had. I was then given the chore to get the plastic with the cardboard backer so to protect them from any further damage. I walk in and explain what I want..... the guy was just shy of being rude. Giving me attitude for being in his store without knowing what it was that I needed......ummmm I pointed out that I was given these and had no idea until recently what I even had. That seemed to soften him up a bit... however.... dude you are more than an adult still working at a comic store with teenagers....dude... get over yourself I have money to spend and dont need attitude for not being a comic book expert. I am trying to protect what I was given ...... i could take them out back and just burn them you idiot..... I also explain I need to protect them until I can "rehome" them to someone who enjoys comics.... he finally points me in the correct direction and asks what series or whatever ..... ummmmmmmmmm huh??? I did just get done telling you that I have no idea what I am doing I need help and now you are asking me technical questions formed in such a way that only comic book people know??? finally a customer took pity on my constant ..... unknowing and asked me the same questions only in words that a non comic book person would understand.... lol basically he wanted to know the size of my comics.... different eras are slightly different sized. OHHHHHHH that okay that I know... lol so the customer helped me out lol see dont use comic book jargon with someone asking for help nicely ....... so I walked out with over 400 plastic sheets and the cardboard backings.... I will never come back here again. I do not enjoy being treated condescendingly because I do not know everything there is to know.... and frankly he kind of put me off on ever really wanting to learn about it. Dude there is a whole wide world out there that other people partake in..... Not everyone is an expert on cartoons in a book ..... some of us want to learn but I would not treat you like shit if you had questions about beading, or stain glass design or creation or any of the things I know a lot about..... I would help.... maybe you should think about that. read more

I went in here the other day to buy a birthday present for a friend. I don't know much about comics - but thought surely that someone would be able to help me. When I asked for some recommendations for gifts, I got the standard "Well you could buy him a T-Shirt - we've got some on sale." One guy recommended a book - but over all they were not very helpful. It felt like because I didn't know anything about comics, that I was not cool enough to shop there. I was willing to spend a lot of money with them, but ended up buying something that a friend of mine had recommended. I really wish they had been more helpful. Ok so I've been in pdx for about 6 years now. I collect comics and special editions of my favourite titles. But in the past I've always had to spend time looking for release dates of certain items and hoping that I don't miss out in a new series. That all stopped since I've been to tfaw. The staff is awesome they help you find hard to get stuff they always make sure ur comics are waiting in your box and when something new comes out they make sure u know about it. I've been to all comix stores in Oregon (I ran down the Google list) and most of Vancouver as well. If there is one place I want to recommend it would be tfaw. read more

Honestly, I don't go in the Beaverton store that often -- I usually hit up Portland or Milwaukie TFAW -- I only really go in for signings or if I happen to be in the neighborhood, which is rare. However, every time I've gone in, the staff has been extremely friendly, and the store has a huge selection of comics and graphic novels. They don't seem to have as many action figures as the other two locations, but they still have quite a few to choose from! Tons of parking thanks to the parking lot directly across the street, and the store is extremely clean. If you're in Beaverton and looking for a comic shop to call home, I wholeheartedly suggest Beaverton TFAW! read more

I've been reading comics as an adult now for about three years, and in that time I've checked out different stores around Portland, as well as the varying experiences of buying comics and graphic novels online. Things From Another World is my favorite company to buy from. They are a subsidiary of Dark Horse Comics, a local comics publisher famous for titles like Hellboy, and this particular location is my favorite little store in all of Portland. It's a small shop, but the inventory is very large, and they are able to order nearly anything with enough notice. I've had a "box" (a subscription service where a list of titles I read monthly are pulled for me before I ever walk into the store,; a box gets you 10% off all your purchases) for about a year now, and the experience has been great. This store and the staff there, especially James, has been one of the primary reasons I've become a more avid comic reader and collector. They just make the experience more enjoyable. Every other week the whole family packs in and browses through the racks, and there's always something for all of us. My wife is starting to pick up graphic novels to learn more about characters she likes from the Marvel films, my seven-year-old has plenty of comics and toys to keep him busy AND reading, and my ten week old will be spending his future allowance here too, I'm sure. Not to mention I get my fill of all the great comics they carry while knowing the rest of the family is interested too. Staff recommendations are just that, recommendations, and no one will be offended if you don't like what they do. I think this Things store really speaks to the best part of the comics scene--that there's room for everyone and for everyone's tastes. Additionally, you can also purchase things from the website when they're running deals and have them shipped to the store at no added shipping costs to pick up when you're next there. I use this service all the time. If you love comics, are just getting into them, or are maybe curious about what the whole thing is about, Things From Another World cannot come more highly recommended from me, and the Beaverton store is at the top of that list. read more

We took the Max there, walked from the station to it while it rained and you know what, it was worth it. Medium in size but with a lot of things to buy like t-shirts, new comics, graphic novels and toys, lots of toys. They've also included how to manga books and toner paper. Made a stop in here while visiting the area from California. The staff was really nice and their collectibles selection was pretty awesome. However I came in for 4 separate issues of my favorite comics, so I wouldn't miss anything while on vacation, but sadly they didn't have anything I was looking for specifically due to it being sold out or not being carried. Like I said their collectibles were great, so I didn't leave without grabbing four funko pop figures and some friendly convo with the cashier. I would definitely recommend, but maybe call ahead if you're looking for something specific. read more

I just moved to Portland from a place that didn't have a comic book store within 100 miles. I figured it was a good time to start reading comics again. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. They can help me decide if I really want to spent my time and money on a title instead of just trying to sell me everything. I have a subscription box set up and I get a discount based on the number of titles I'm subscripged to. I highly recommend this shop. Greeted by name when I enter the store. One of the first comic book stores I found in the Portland area after moving here close to 20 years ago, The staff is friendly and knowledgable and they keep a decent stock of current issues and offer discounts for regular subscribers. Back issues isn't really a specialty for them though so if you're missing out on an issue you're better served going to a larger shop or hitting an online retailer. read more

As a long-time comic book collector (30-plus years) I can say I am very pleased with the quality and service at this shop. The clerks are friendly and seem to really want to know what you are interested in. I set up my pull-box service a month ago and they have not missed a single issue of anything I collect. In fact, they have been great at recommending new books that I otherwise might not have heard of. Withheld one star for the cluttered layout of the store, sometimes making it difficult to find particular graphic novels. Other than this one quibble, a great place for comic book fans. read more
