Follow up: These guys... it is already not terribly common for someone to take the time to follow up on a review, let alone do it without even a hint of passive aggressiveness. But when I came back for a visit, the staff as a whole couldn't have been nicer. On my return visit, I had not mentioned until the very end of my visit that I was the grumpy guy who had surgery who was miffed about the NBA players shutting down the store. As soon as I mentioned it, the immediate reaction was nothing but gratitude that I had come back. I simply wanted to tell them how much it meant for them to have taken the time to reach out in the way they had. They had other ideas... They acknowledged that it was the first time they'd ever experienced anything like that, and that it was a learning experience for everyone! the security team with the players were the ones pushing to lock the doors, and at that time, the store being empty, they obliged, not realizing it was going to be a longer visit than originally anticipated. At that time, they then would not allow me to make my purchase unless they were able to apply a very generous discount as both an apology and a thank you, which was completely unnecessary, but incredibly appreciated! Well, I ended up stopping in once more a few days later, but with the kiddos along side this go around. The oldest is now joining dear old dad and transitioning into Magic the Gathering while the youngest has as of this last week fully succumbed to Poké-mania... I wanted to swing by with them and let them pick out a bunch of fun stuff, and to again say thank you to the team there. The store was absolutely packed, so we understandably had to wait outside for minute or two due to safety/occupancy limits. Once we did get in, I noticed that one of the individuals I was standing next to was being helped not to pick out and purchase a bunch of product, but rather because the store was donating a big stack of cards for charity! As soon as it was time for us to be helped, bless the staff, they could not have been kinder and more accommodating to two very excited and very talkative younglings! Ands then as soon as they saw me, the staff and the owner again were not only incredibly excited that I made it back with the kiddos, but again insisted on giving them another generous discount upon checking out! You guys are too much! These guys could teach a master class on customer service! Them providing Not one but two discounts was incredibly generous and very appreciated. However, the thing that really stood out to me the most was the fact that they did so because they really care. Not just about a customer who had a less than stellar initial experience, but more importantly, the community. They see the bigger picture and recognized us not simply as customers, but as part of their community. Quietly donating product to charity, insisting on making sure their shop feels like a safe and welcoming place to collectors and players of any age, and take an immense amount of pride in what they do, not just the owner, but the entire staff... If it had not been for that type of community and sentiment in the early days of Magic the Gathering and over 30 years ago, and shortly after the initial wave of Pokémon, there's no way either of these games would have survived being much more than a fad. I practically lived in my local game store (LGS) growing up both because I loved the game and the community that we put our hearts and souls in the building, but more importantly because it was a safe place for several of us. My home growing up was unfortunately rarely a "safe and happy place," and had it not been for an incredibly kind shop owner and a ragtag group of kids who did no less than pull me into their community, I have no idea what I would've done. It was this community that taught me kindness, empathy, acceptance, and confidence. This is one of the few LGS's I've walked into in many years that gave me a similar sentiment. You guys literally turned a detractor into not just a loyal customer, but an advocate. I sincerely hope that you guys are some day soon, able to expand to a larger location with plenty more room to play, trade, and hangout! I have no doubt it will not only be a very popular place to be, but with you and your team at the helm, it will no doubt be a cornerstone and incredibly uplifting addition to the surrounding community of players and collectors! read more

If you are a collector, this place can be dangerous for your wallet. The staff is friendly and helpful. Jon assisted us and was very knowledgeable. Some of the other staff were not as familiar with pricing on certain boxes. At one point they had to ask across the room for the price, which was a little surprising. I feel like that information should be more consistent among the staff. They have a great variety of collectible cards and the pricing is reasonable. I also like that they sometimes give out free sleeves, which is a nice touch. This shop is a bit farther than the places we usually go, but I really like their selection much better. read more

The store is packed to the max and there is a line of people all the way down to Nebulous Tap Room. Gonna be getting my son pick out a selection of $60 worth of cards today. This store has been my favorite by far. After the initial miscommunication (and it was mostly my fault), the service has been spot on and keeps make me wanting to come back again and again. I am so upset at my experience with this store because it is by far the best Pokémon and card shop around and it is horribly far away from my house. so my biggest if they could possibly relocate close to my house so I don't have to hear from my kids that they want to go to the card shop 30 minutes away every weekend!! All joking aside this place has the most competitive prices the friendliest staff and they do it old-school man they just let you pick out of a bunch of packs. The one you want you don't just get handed the first one off the shelf they try to try to show off the wins that customers had so many cards so many things. You're not gonna find better prices you're not gonna find friendly people so just come into this place. You're an adult now you can buy those things your parents said no to as a kid. I mean come on have some fun you know most people in your mid to late 30s collective Pokémon cards at some point why not do it again maybe pick up a different card collection that they're there it's fine. Came in to check out the store and see what they had. The staff were very very friendly and helpful. I didn't end up getting anything because I was just so overwhelmed... no overjoyed by this expansive collection that I didn't know where to start, but I will definitely come back. They have an impressive collection of cards. From singular cards, to packs, to boxes. Whatever you're looking for, you'll probably find it here. They have Japanese and English cards. I'm telling you, this is store has a ton of stuff. I cannot emphasize enough how great the staff is. I came in just to look and it didn't feel like they were pressuring me to buy anything. They let me have time to explore and ask questions. There wasn't this pressure to know what I was looking for or to make the sale. I have been to the 20 card shops in the Portland/Vancouver metro area and this place is one of my favorites. They are going to have the best Pokémon stock and prices around town. They have the largest singles inventory around town. I always come here to complete my sets. They sell English and Japanese products. They get their Pokémon products earlier than any other store. Also, I like using their PSA grading service. It's simple and convenient. Never had an issue with my cards that I sent through them. For those who are criticizing the integrity of the owner and employees, you don't know what you are talking about. The owner and employees are so nice, helpful, and honest. He treats his regular customers like they are VIPs. read more

This is the best hobby card shop in the Beaverton and Portland Metro area!!! I've been to other mom and pop hobby card shops in the area and this shop has the most friendliest, customer-focused, generous, fun, and genuine owner and staff! Upon entering, you are greeted with smiles and sometimes treats (special holidays/events) from the staff. They are official distributors for Topps and Panini so they always have the newest sets for purchase for baseball, basketball, football etc...! They also have a PSA submission service as well so yo can submit singles with them to avoid having the hassle in packaging, mailing, and waiting via snail mail. The store is well-maintained, clean, well-stocked, and organized. They have a few display cases of many graded cards and raw singles. In addition to sports cards, they specialize in Pokemon and One Piece! They offer the best prices comparable or even cheaper than TCG player. In addition, they always have regular sales for TCG and sports cards so there are always great revolving deals whenever you stop by. They announce deals on their IG and have signage at their store. As a bonus, they usually give free toploaders and/or penny sleeves with any purchase unlike any other shop I've been to. They also have raffles for in-store gift cards and booster boxes. Whether you are a sports card collector or tcg collector, this place has it all! Plus the prices are the best for value. Also other collectors and I have gotten many big hits from buying single packs and/or booster boxes from this store. The store values customer loyalty and will take care of store regulars and newbies! I've been to this store several times and been happy with the big selection and competitive prices. Last time there, though, there was a different person in charge than I remembered. I asked for a price on a box of cards, which he gave me. I agreed to that price. I went over to get a couple more packs before checking out, and by the time I was ready to check out he said he had given me the wrong price on the box. He apologized a lot, but didn't actually give me a new price on the box. He said he was going to talk to the manager but didn't actually do so, also maybe mentioned his brother was the owner. I suggested yes to talk to one of them and explain what had happened so we could figure out a solution. I would have been happy to chat with them as well. Instead, he then just quoted me a price about 25% higher than what they had previously agreed to... really weird. I know mistakes happen, but it kind of seemed like he was just trying to upsell me for some reason. I don't think the folks who were in charge the other (many) times I've been in and bought a bunch of stuff would have done that - they definitely would have handled the situation better. Sadly not sure I will go back now. Seeing a couple of other strange things happen in some comments, and other stories I've heard. If you give someone the price of a product, either stand by it - or explain a mistake and give the new price promptly. I hope the manager/owners hears about this. I was hoping for a good mutual win and still a sale, but I lost all confidence in the store by the way it was handled. Sorry - don't review on Yelp really, so this is my first review. I'll have to review some other places, because there are so many great businesses in and around Beaverton that I love! Felt compelled to mention this, especially as we couldn't come to a resolution, and hope it helps other customers as well as a business that I'd love to see continuing to succeed. Glad to see many other positive reviews of Cards N Hobby, which better reflect my other visits. Giving two stars instead of one, because of prior much better experiences. I've been going to Cards N Hobby to buy TCG singles and have been very happy with pricing and service. My last visit I purchased several loose Spidey Magic packs and the rares were in the front of the pack rather than the back. This was different than the packs in the Spidey collectors box that had rares in the back, also purchased there. I went to two other stores for packs later and the rares were in the back as I'm used to. Just giving a heads up they might be using a different distributor or something than some of the other places and not to be alarmed. read more

One of my favorite card shops hands down, Tony and the staff are so kind and welcoming. They have a huge selection of TCG available in store including a ton of pokemon and One Piece (English and Japanese ) and other selection as well. They have an instagram page where you can keep up with new arrivals and product or you can also call the store and they're always very helpful. It has been a year since I've been coming to Cards N Hobby and I just wanted to say this place even after a year still feels like home to me. Tony, Emma, Jessica and the rest of the crew have always welcomed myself as well as my boyfriend and sister in law with open arms. They always have a variety of pokemon cards to which we are interested in and always get our preorders from them. Tony is an outstanding person and he considers us as family since we stop by all the time. I have been to other card stores around the Beaverton/Portland area and we still always come back. His prices are very reasonable and do go by TCG on current prices. I can't even put into words how much a store can make someone feel like they're at home. They offer us drinks and donuts when they have it and they even remember our names to which a lot of places don't know or bother to remember. I have pulled a lot of amazing cards from this place. My Charizard V for brilliant stars, as well as the Pikachu EX the gold one and the most sought after from surging sparks. I'm so happy we have found a place we love! I absolutely will never take my son there to shop again. He had $10 of his own money that he had saved up. He carefully selected 2 sets of pokemon cards that he could afford with his $10. One was $2.99, the other was $6.99 so his total should have been $9.98. When we got to the register the employee said that it would be $10. I asked how it was $10 when one pack was $2.99, the other $6.99 so that should be $9.98? His response was, well...we round up. I said, that's not what the price is and you're taking my son's money. It may only be 2 cents but if they do that to every customer and kids no less, that means they are stealing a lot of their customers' money over time. When my son finds pennies in the store on the ground, he's ecstatic so pennies are not nothing to him. What they're doing is illegal, false advertising, bait and switch. You can't advertise something for a price and then at point of sale, say it's more. They gave us the pennies when I called them out on what they were doing but I know we are not the only ones they have done this to and have made free money off their customers if they don't pay attention! I found this Card Shop when passing by one day and I decided to check it out. They have EVERYTHING you might need for trading cards. I personally am a Pokémon guy so I am pleased to see they had booster boxes, packs, collection boxes, slabs, singles. Everything. Ranging from New to Vintage. They have a wide selection. Best part? The prices are completely reasonable. Pretty much everything, except older things of course are retail or not even a dollar more. They have a wide selection of Sports, Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh and other card trading as well. The owner and staff are amazing. Super kind, friendly and knows their stuff. I have been coming back over and over and am treated with respect every single time. They are not pushy and want me to be satisfied and happy with my purchase. Selling point for me is they sold me their last product of something that they are working on a collection for. I know it was probably hard for them since it was their only one that technically wasn't set for sale but they sold it to me for the quoted price they gave me last visit when they had an extra. I will continuously drive the 30minutes it takes to get there every time I need cards because they are worth it. Amazing staff and legit product. read more
