This shop is piled from end to end with goods to look at. There's only a small walkway to browse stuff in which can make it a little difficult to get in and out of the store if other people are there too. They have so many classic books, figures and cards that I haven't seen in forever. The shop keeper was more than happy to chat about where and how he got his merchandise too. The prices are fair, most things they sell are bought from Japan or from a Lootcrate. If you collect things this place is a haven. A upon back on Saturday the 14th I was making alternate route 2 home cause of construction through Tv highway, I saw this store has finally opened it's door so I pulled to the side in parking & finally walked right through the squeeze door (which because the sign said), this person has everything that around when I born & WAY b4 I was born. Every old toys & comics everywhere in 1 circle & very rare & mint condition. The prices r a gr8est deals & I got some good old comic books. And also not only that this store has toys around & WAY b4 but I spotted 3 very toys that r from Japan as well, I think I now know where 2 find 3 rarest from Japan . Owner is very nice & really knowledgeable in so many different topics. Exactly the kind of person you'd hope would run a store like this. I'd come back solely based on the conversation & friendliness he provides that you don't see a lot of these days. Very fair with his prices & there's literally something here for everyone. A lot of vintage & nostalgic pieces, things you can't find anywhere. There's a lot of goodies to go through, if you wanted to, you could spend hours here & find so many hidden treasures. Unbeatable comic shop, owned by a true comic book lover who always has his shop piled high with cool comic books that you want, cool figures, and vintage posters ect. It feels like I walked into Ollivanders wand shop when I walked in. The owner, Max, ended up talking to me about comics the whole time and turned what would've been just a quick stop at a big comic book store into a memorable experience. I live right next to Excalibur comics but this is my new favorite spot, it's worth the 30 min drive, 10/10 would recommend! read more

The negative reviewers, to me, come across as upper-class collectors who came looking for a modern corporate environment; people who have never set foot in a place this authentic. This is one guy's breathtakingly extensive, life-long collection of everything imaginable. It's packed so dense you can barely turn around, yet he knows exactly where everything is, he will talk and talk about your interests with you and find anything you're looking for. He knows what every single item is, where he got it and how long it's been waiting for a buyer - sometimes 20 years or more. It's a treasure hoard for people who actually care about and love these things, rather than a place to buy and scalp the latest Funko Pops or whatever. It's open at night, and if you can't figure out when, just call him on the phone. He calls back and is friendly every time. It may be shutting down soon, so if you've never been here, catch up while you can. The sign on the door says they open "after" 4:30pm certain days of the week. I have tried to visit this place twice well after 4:30pm on days they're alleged to be open. The owner doesn't bother to open the store. I won't try a third time. After reading other reviews of this place, I honestly feel lucky they weren't open. As you might expect of a store that can't bother to be open, the owner sounds like they have no clue how to run a business or treat customers respectfully. How is this place still in business? This is hands down one of my favorite vintage toy stores. The store is packed full of some really cool finds. The owner knows his stuff and takes the time to help you find the right product. O.k., so I went to Oregon to visit some friends and the first thing I did was search out the local comic and collectible shops. In the major city area, we found a few that were small and overpriced, but when I had just about lost all hope, I found Heroes and Hobbies. I spent a small bundle on Transformer stuff there and they were packed to the brim with all sorts of treasures from hundreds of Star Wars toys from every era to the standard Magic players arsenal. This place had it all. I myself, collect Transformers and this place definitely had them. They put all of the other stores I checked out in the area to shame. They had a whole full sized glass cabinet and a half dedicated to Transformers and a lot more outside of them too. They mainly boast collectors toys at decent prices, but they do have a comic section too and although I did not look as much through it, I am guessing it is pretty substantial selection. My only fallback with this place is that I didn't get to spend more time shopping there. Definitely great if you are a collector of WST and the Act series PVC figures too. If you are in the area and planning on doing some toy shopping, then I suggest you start here. They also have a large amount of Star Trek, Yugio and Pokemon items too. read more

VERY rarely do I stop what I'm doing to review an establishment right away. But today is one of those days and all it took was a mere phone call before I even laid eyes on the place. I just got into Dice Masters and am looking for new places to buy my boosters When I Googled card/game stores, I found Heroes & Hobbies, it said they open at 6. I remember reading that a few times. Open....at.....6? PM? PM still means nighttime, right? Okay, I get it, you're self employed, you can set whatever hours you want. No problem. But what follows is a 60 second exchange that left me feeling confused as to what I did wrong, just by simply calling with a question. Because nothing that transpired was pleasant, or inviting as a customer. I didn't leave them a message when I called earlier in the day and got voicemail. Meh...I already found out Ancient Wonders closes at 10 and Rainy Day Games closes at 9 if I can make it. I'll do the drive in the rain and dark. I busted my butt at work today, I'm going to indulge! Pshhh...this is Oregon. Does rain stop our fun? NO! So flash forward to 745pm. I get a call from a number I don't recognize. Convo goes like this: Him: 'I missed a call earlier [unintelligible words] Heroes & [unintelligible words] when we were [awkward pause]....not....available.' (If you need to imagine a tone to accompany this intro, imagine one of disbelief that you would call ::gasp:: outside business hours.) Le moi (realizing it's one of the 4 game stores I called): 'Ahhh!...Are you a card/game store?' Him: '[awkward silence]............... ....................... yes' Le moi: Oh! Hi! Yea. You guys really do...open...at 6 at night?....? Him: '(long awkward silence).............. ..............yes' Le moi: '.....oh okay....do you sell Dice Masters starters or boosters?' Him: (long awkward silence)'.............(still awkward)........'nope' Le moi: '....okay...Thanks for your help!' Him: (long awkward silence) '.......... .......yep' I'm not sure what happened but I'll tell you what. When I called other stores, they were engaging, didn't make a customer feel like you are an inconvenience and dare I say, welcoming. I even got a 'Hope to see ya!' before I hung up with Ancient Wonders. And we all know the awesomeness of Rainy Day Games. This place here though, screams 'Why are you calling? Don't come in here! We don't want you here!' Believe it or not Mr. Heroes & Hobbies, how you carry yourself over the phone speaks VOLUMES as a business. It can make or break whether or not someone even wants to step foot in a place. And guess what? I don't. I'm all for supporting local, but not local jerks. Truth be told, this guy I can guarantee, doesn't care. This review isn't meant to give this poor man any form of 'You're a douche...be nice to your customers' kind of epiphany. He's way past that. It's for YOU reader. Seriously, you really don't want to spend your money at this place. Lots of stuff but it's easier to get around in my grandmas attic then this store. Most stuff out of box, and still priced same as if new-in-box with all it's attachments. However, if you leave voicemail, they WILL call you back. However they don't usually show up till after 8pm. Regardless of all the bad reviews this place has received, I decided to stop in today just because I was in the area during hours of operation. In my opinion, it's worth your time to read these reviews than waste it going over there. When I opened the door, my first thought was geez, it's like a storage unit full of so many toys, comics, and boxes with a very narrow walk path that loops in a small square surrounding more of the same stuff. Then somewhere near the far left wall is the front counter where the employee just sits and nods his head as I said "Hi." Doesn't even bother to offer assistance on finding something I might have been looking for. But then again, I wouldn't want to be rummaging thru all the stuff that's packed into this place. I was really sad because I love the store and all the stuff in it. However, I had to go back 4 times to actually go in during a time it was actually open. We even called ahead of time, the guy said he would be open at a certain time, so we go, it's still closed. Then he calls us back at 8 o'clock at night and tells us it's open. He also has the gall to lie to us and say that it was open at the original time, we just weren't patient enough. Then, when I talk about what I like, he starts bashing me like I'm some fake comic book geek girl. I tell him I don't collect so I like trade paper back because I don't have the space to just collect and he blows up. He literally calls me stupid. Then he tries to sell me 40 bucks worth of comics that I DON'T WANT telling me it's a great deal. He also tries to sell this Nightwing comic for like $20 that he claims is so rare and valuable when I know for a fact you can get it for one dollar online with free shipping. I think the guy is nice underneath it all, but he has no idea how to run a proper business or treat people. read more

Came here due to my younger siblings. I would say this store is very messy and unorganized. The person who was working at the time of my visit, didn't seem friendly or interest to help us. At the end try to be nice to us to due to misunderstanding of the butt-ugly-used action figure toys behind the glass. This pace also has a weird disgusting smell. He even helped me find things that were a good price and better items than what I was looking for!! We've gone all over Oregon to many little collectibles shops but this one left me quite dumbfounded. What a peculiar place, with a quite peculiar owner. First off, the hours or so strange! They don't operate on set hours so you have to call ahead and leave a message so that the owner can call you back and let you know IF he's open or WHEN he'll be opening that day (more like night). So we get the call back and head over there one night and as we enter, he's arguing with a guy who's trying to make a deal with him and honestly, he was being quite rude and condescending. So anyhoo, we proceed to walk around and check out what this place had to offer. They had a lot of anime, star wars, transformers and more toys along those lines. The place is really unorganized and there are boxes upon boxes all over the sales floor. We basically had to walk sideways in a single file line trying to weave through the aisles. We particularly wanted to see if he had any collectible G.I. Joe items that we'd be interested in. He pointed to a stack of boxes in the distance and said he "probably had some in there". So we went towards it and tried to open one up. Bad Idea. We got scolded for that. Apparently we weren't supposed to open up boxes on the sales floor?! So #1: Then why did you direct us to it, and #2 if WE weren't supposed to open it, then why didn't YOU do it for us? So strange! My daughter found a shelf with little disney toys that he was selling for $5 for 10 items. He started being very friendly and chatty with my daughter and me as she was rummaging through the shelf. (Bi-polar much?) At the same time, out near the front door, my son set his eyes on some lego figures in the glass display case. My BF asked about them and I guess when he pointed to the ones he was interested in and an alarm went off. From behind the counter, he yelled out "Okay, what did you guys break?!" OH EM GEE!!!! Are you serious?! My BF, my son and my niece just about had it at that point and walked out. My daughter still wanted her little toys so I paid for those and wanted to bolt out of there. He continued to try to chat it up being all smiley and friendly but I was already disgusted with the way he treated my family that I had to just cut him off and leave. He's lucky that I even bought those stupid little disney thingies for my daughter. So that sums up our little Heroes & Hobbies nightmarish adventure. NEVER AGAIN! Oh and as far as the prices, they're higher than the item's worth! Don't waste your time! You'll be buying second-hand stuff for higher than retail new item prices. Ugh! read more

Action Figure Madness! Ever see Robot Chicken? Then you know what I mean. The guy who runs/owns this store is really nice. He has a lot of comics and good comic book stuff but the store is stuffed to the gills. And with so much stuff its easier to ask him if he has something then look for it yourself. Star Wars, Star Wars, and more Star Wars! This place is a must stop for any Star Wars fans. I can't understand why this place has so many negative reviews. Staff - I called in advance after reading all of the reviews to make sure they were open. They were open and the guy on the other end of the line sounded super friendly and helpful. Upon walking in the store there were three people chatting it up (two people and the owner). They were all immediately friendly as well. Price - Yes they are high but this is one of those awesome, classic places where bartering still exists to some degree. I got some sweet deals on sale and he even gave me a multi-item discount on the fly. Item Condition - A lot of the stuff in there is VERY old and rare. Old things age. If you are a super OCD collector then a lot of the stuff in there wont be for you. This guy may not be the most approachable but he knows his toys, he's fair, and I got some way cool Star Wars vintage toys and picked up some great vintage comic books to frame and display in my office. The place is full of decent artsy and great toys. I'll be back because of his great inventory, sourcing ( asked him to find a couple toy parts for me, and he's wealth of knowledge. After managing to come back to this shop four times and finally see that they were open around 7 p.m., well after their stated hours, I wish I had never stepped foot in this store. I have never been treated so poorly for simply walking around a shop and browsing the things for sale. Forget that I was interested in buying some action figures, I was told I shouldn't touch the merchandise. This is stuff hanging on pegs, not in a display case. How am I supposed to figure out if I should buy it? I picked the package up gently and put it back just as gently despite how I felt after being chastised. This is a great place to find stuff. unconventional hours? yeah sure, but i remember the time I went there looking for Superman trading cards and the store was closed, so I called the dude and he was there within like 15 minutes to open for me and find what I was looking for. This is a review that is at least 15+ years in the making. I have stopped by this store ever since I was roughly 8-10 years old. I was completely obsessed with star wars toys, and this seemed to be the most promising place for any prepubescent with a hard-on to 'return of the Jedi' Leah action figures. My first encounter, I want to say around 2001, I was in 5th grade. what i vividly remember is my dad asking questions on my behalf (me being shy) and the gentleman giving him short and condescending answers. Even my 8 year old self recognized that this guy was being rude. roughly 10 minutes later another gentleman asked to see a action figure that was behind the counter. Here is how I remember the exchange: -The owner "Do you have money for it?" (Fair enough, it was probably expensive). -The gentleman "yes, id just like to see it though" -The owner: "Well i need to see the money before I go grab it, i don't know if you're going to run off with it or not" (regardless of if the gentleman was going to steal a toy, so much confrontation and mistrust from the get go) -the gentleman: "You can hold it, i just want to see it up close" -the owner: "your wasting my time, get the fuck out of my store" -the gentleman: "Fuck you" -the owner: "I'll slam your head right into this fucking counter dude" (Examining this display of behavior, the look on my dads face was priceless) they shouted at each other for a few more minutes and the customer left. shoot forward to 2009 I'm 17 going on 18, my friends and I got done at the 5 cent arcade across the street. we decide to stop off here and see what was new. its the same claustrophobic closet of a store. I remember 3 very specific interactions 1. The owner was complaining about opening display case because the item I wanted was in the way back. He proceeded to ask me if I was actually gonna buy it, or just gonna look (it was a sealed Pokemon trading card game for the game boy). I did end up buying this game for about $18.00 2. My friend asked about whether or not a certain comic was good and if the owner knew what is was about. the owner proceeded to harass him, indicating that everything he needed to know about the comic was in the title. (it was Alien versus predator). Then he made fun of how my friend mispronounced a star trek characters name on one of the toy boxes scattered around. 3. The owner found some original Pokemon Boosters laying under another box (10+ year old cards by now). He said he would sell them to us for like $4.00 since I had already shown interest in the sealed pokemon game. I was stoked and said that's awesome, ya ill buy some. the owner, measuring my interest, raised the price to $5.00 per booster because I sounded "super interested" followed by "these are probably pretty rare by now" After my friends and I left and got into our car to go home and play Smash Melee, I began to open my new pokemon game. I come to find that there's a seam of scotch tape on the edge of the games packaging. I peel open the packaging and open to box to reveal that the pokemon card game had been replaced with an entirely different gameboy game. I have been a customer of Heroes and Hobbies for a few years now. Granted, I don't go in much any more due to a change in my work schedule, but I will make it in again soon. I'm an avid Star Trek collector, and have found some really good pieces here before. Max, the owner, is up on his Trek and just about anything sci-fi or comic related. You should really check it out.
