    Spaghetti pomodoro e recotta (YUM)

**They only take cash here!** they also open at 12pm, despite what Yelp says. Don't bother embarrassing yourself asking for WiFi, there is none - as we found out, but who cares, you shouldn't be on your phone anyway, right? It's also cheap which is great (house wine for 2 Euro? Come on). There are 4 women who run this place, and the food is so comforting, it's like what my grandmother used to make. No fancy, high-falutin' plating, just simple, delicious home cooking. Highly recommend. We will probably go back tomorrow! We ordered: crostini w/ Gorgonzola and walnuts, spaghetti pomodoro e ricotta, roast beef w/ salad (we like this so much we forgot to take a picture), ricotta cheesecake (my husband gobbled it up and ordered one to go also!) Edit: we came back a second time. The ladies did not disappoint! The menu changed significantly since our last meal - equally as good. I love this place!

Stumbled on this hole in the wall restaurant. Ended up being one of my favorite restaurants in a Florence. Please look at the bruschetta al pomodoro pic with this review. It tastes even better than it looks. There are no words. No nonsense woman cooking and running the place had me in awe. Going back to try her tiramisu before I leave.

Cured meats with cheese, bruschetta, and pickled artichoke hearts

Lunch starts at 12:00, and does seem to fill up quickly. You may end up being seated by at a table with other diners, just roll with it. The food makes it worth. As you walk past Osteria Il Buongustai, you'll get a bit of that awesome smell of a kitchen that's churning out delicious eats. It's no joke, and as you enter the establishment, you'll see the kitchen to the left and the ladies working away. The style of food is what I'd imagine I'd get if I had an awesome Italian Auntie cooking me up a lunch (good). My friend and I split a Caprese Salad, Pasta with tomato sauce, and a plate of cured meats, cheese, and a pickled artichoke heart. The meat/cheese plate also came with a bruschetta and (my favorite) beans on a piece of french toast with truffle oil. One of the most delightful combinations that I never would have thought of. Their house wine was 4.50 Euro for 1/2 a liter. Do not rely on Google maps for this location, you'll need to walk a block or two south (same street) of the marked location on Google Maps. Go try Buongustai for lunch. Don't be a sucka.

Beans in olive oil, beef tripe and salad

We are glad we got to eat at this osteria (mom & pop eatery that offers local dishes at reasonable prices) and I got to sample the Beef tripe which I'm told is 1 of Tuscany's comfort foods. I've always liked beef tripe whether it's menudo, chitlins or my favorite Dim sum pick of beef tripe so when I saw it on the menu I knew I had to get it. And at only €7 it was a steal. We got a bottle of the local Chianti as well. My girl had the mozzarella artichoke salad and we shared a side dish of beans in olive oil. We stuck with simple dishes because that's what this osteria is known for....home cooking at reasonable prices. We walked out of there full and happy and when I saw the bill I got even happier.

Three women+one itty bitty kitchen+not too many seats=a really delicious place for lunch in Florence. Prices are super reasonable: bruschetta is €3 (there are a variety of delicious options), salads and crepes are €6.50, panini are €5, and pastas are about €6. And, everything is delicious! The penne with taleggio and pesto was SO tasty--don't miss it is you like pesto. The crepes are hearty; they're basically panini but in a crepe instead of bread (same fillings). I sort of bullied my husband into ordering the crepe with bresaola, brie, and pine nuts; he wasn't thrilled but went for it...turned out to be one of the best things on the table. Thin crepe, creamy, savory brie, salty bresaola, sweet, creamy pine nuts..I could really go for one of those right now. We spent €42 on lunch for four, including beers. The restaurant is tiny and cramped, but very cute...adds to the ambience, I guess. The three women do everything--take the orders, make the food, serve, bus. And they do it like rockstars.

Heaven is on Earth at "I Buongustai"!!!

10 years I'm eating here and they are still 5 stars!!! They never change the quality and everything is still delicious and cooked under your eyes! Never lose this place fellas! Go for it!!! A volte mettono a dura prova. Soprattutto i menù spesso e volentieri troppo appiccicosi. Ci vediamo alla prossima! Non vedo l'ora!

Small little kitchen that is efficient. They actually cook their food unlike the place I dined for lunch in Rome yesterday.

This hole in the wall in the heart of touristy center of Florence exceeded my expectations. The pangs of hunger necessitated finding a place to eat quick after I checked into the hotel. Wandering the streets, I came across this super small establishment that was full except for several counter spaces, and an open kitchen that was hyperactive fulfilling the dining orders. The prices were ridiculously low and had it not been late in the afternoon I would have ordered the standard two-three course lunch with wine. I sensibly tamed the desire to do for the sake of dinner, and ordered the Tuscan crostini (with chicken pate) and Tripa alla Florentina. Was it good? Unequivocally so and a shame that scheduling wise I was not able to come back for a second dine. Generous portions of flavorful tripe did wonders for my complaining stomach.

Probably the best Pasta dish I have ever had!! Don't get me wrong it wasn't "fancy" just good homemade tasty pasta at an amazing price! I paid 7€ for a generous portion size of Porccini Tagliatelle which was simple but delicious! My fiancé ordered the Crab bow tie pasta for 8€ which he surprisingly said he preferred mine! Even though mine was vegetarian (he is such a carnivore).Nonetheless he still enjoyed his dish. We shared a quarter litre of house red for 4.5€ and shared one portion of a simple tomato and olive oil buschetta for 3€ With a belly full on 22.5€ you can't complain! It honestly feels like you've stepped into Mumma's Kitchen it's rustic but warming. The waitstaff knew limited English but we are in Italy after all so that's part of the fun! The menu does have the English equivalent underneath it! The tables are long shared tables I wouldn't recommend here for large groups or if you are after a quiet intimate quiet dinner.

Truffle spaghetti is to die for !! Everything is made daily and fresh ! We came back twice in three days. There is Daily menu and price is cheap!

This little restaurant is very close to Brunelleschi's dome, so it's convenient to go to after a tiring climb. They have amazing food for very good prices and the specials are different each day so I may even go back again. My friends and I got the pasta with zucchini, tomatoes, and cheese, as well as beef. The dessert is also delicious and worth trying.

We ordered the 2.6 lb dry aged Florentine steak and gnocchi. The Florentine steak is a must try steak here. It was very juicy, tender, and it was bursting with flavor. The meat was nice and chewy. The steak was gigantic and it is bigger than my head. They first bring out the raw steak and weight it in front of you. The steak is enough to share for three people. The gnocchi was also very delicious. It was cheesy and rich. It was also in a way creamy and the cheese just melted in your mouth. One of the best things I've ever put in my mouth and eaten. The cheesecake is very famous in this restaurant. We tried it and understand why. The cheesecake was super creamy and soft. I had a great time and experience here. Definitely will be back sometime soon hopefully. This is a place I highly recommend to everyone. Come and try it out for yourselves.

He was awesome and had us laughing the entire night. We peppered him with a lot of questions about the menu, he answered everything and also accommodated my father-in-law, who is GF. He had his own GF bread basket and was able to order almost anything on the menu. We ordered a nice bottle of Montepulciano red for the table that was $48. Others had the Hugo spritz. For app I had the anchovies with roasted red pepper, sea salt and oil over grilled crostini, very good. I skipped first course and ordered the ribeye steak for my main course. Bone in, medium rare, sprinkled with sea salt and a side of onion marmalade. The steak was very good and had way less fat than I expected. The waiter suggested a huge steak for the table, but I was the only one ordering steak that night. Maybe next time. Others ordered the fillet and it was cooked perfectly, the angels and demons gnocchi, and the veal scallopini. Everybody was pleased Really cool spot with a very good wine selection, drinks, excellent food and a fun atmosphere that you don't find at many places. Nugo was an A+ server.

The atmosphere alone is worth a visit, but the food is what truly makes it exceptional. We ordered the ravioli, pappardelle with wild boar ragù, the Florentine steak, a mixed salad, affogato, and fresh strawberries with mascarpone cream. To drink, we shared a small carafe of red wine and a Pinot Grigio. Everything was spectacular. The Florentine steak was easily the best--and largest--I have ever had. Perfectly cooked, incredibly flavorful, and remarkably tender, it was the highlight of an already outstanding meal. The pappardelle with boar ragù was rich, hearty, and deeply satisfying, while the ravioli was beautifully prepared and full of flavor. Every dish felt authentic, carefully executed, and memorable. The wine was another pleasant surprise. Both selections were excellent and very reasonably priced, making the meal feel like an even better value. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, and incredibly helpful. He patiently answered questions, explained the menu, and guided us toward some fantastic choices. Although we thought we were too full for dessert, we're very glad we changed our minds. The affogato was fantastic, and the strawberries with mascarpone cream were absolutely delicious. One of the highlights of the evening was watching our four-year-old happily clutching two spoons and enthusiastically scooping fresh strawberries and mascarpone into his mouth. It was one of those memorable family travel moments that you don't forget. A terrific meal, a unique historic setting, excellent service, and a wonderful atmosphere. This was one of our favorite dining experiences in Florence, and I highly recommend it.

I went to the internet for the best Florentine steak and Trattoria Mario consistently popped up as highly rated. I reached out to the restaurant via email to make a reservation for a Friday. I wanted to get the earliest reservation possible, so the restaurant reserved me for 7:30pm, which was when they open. I was advised to show up on time - even a 2 minute delay would make me miss my reservation. I can see why Trattoria Mario was strict on reservations. They open on the dot, and then a staff member calls out each reservation at 7:30pm like a roll call. Seemed to me that if you don't have a reservation then you're out of luck, because there was no waitlist and the restaurant small and space was limited. Service was great. Our waitress was highly attentive and got us in/out of the restaurant quickly, which was what we were going for. Food came out in a timely manner. We ordered the penne al ragu, salad misto, and a Florentine steak to share. The penne was perfectly al dente, and I liked the meat sauce. I did find the pasta sauce salty, but it could've came from the grated parmesan. The saltiness was not a fluke. The Florentine steak was just pure beef and a ton of salt... too much salt for my liking. I also decided that I'm not a fan of Florentine steak in general.

Am I the only one that thought steak florentine was supposed to be served this way? Maybe that's was my mistake but I thought that's how it was prepared in Florence. Anyways, I was immediately suspicious when our waitress asked how we would like our steak cooked and her suggestions were medium or medium well. Uhhhh what? That goes against everything I believe in! The steak came out on a hot stone slab on top of a wooden box. The slab obviously continued to cook the steak so I immediately took off a few pieces to prevent this. The steak was thick and tender with chunks of large salt grains. It looked nice all sliced up but that's where the compliments end. It lacked flavor and ended up cooking to be more medium rare when I grabbed my pieces and then even medium by the time my dad grabbed his second slice. Our waitress seemed annoyed when we asked for the truffle sauce to accompany our steak (my dad forgot to ask for it when we placed our original order) and walked away with a huff to go grab it. The fries came out cold and limp with flavorless truffle shavings on top. I'm not sure why this place has such great reviews. Maybe it got too big for its britches and the quality has declined? The one saving grace was the crema bruciata! And the very understanding hostess who gladly pushed our reservation from 7:30 to 8:00pm due to travel difficulties. Whatever the reason, this place definitely missed the mark. You can't walk three steps without seeing a steakhouse here in Florence. My recommendation? Try one of those.
