The crepe with bresaola, brie, and pine nuts was a delicious mixture of smokey, dried beef slices paired with creamy cheese and earthy pine nuts, all wrapped in a thin crepe. There's an ever-changing daily menu of specials too, and I tried the Lasagne al pesto, made of nothing but thin sheets of pasta, pesto sauce, and a crispy layer of cheese on top. I have dined here a couple of times, both for lunch and for dinner, and it doesn't matter, excellent in all. First off, the place is tiny so you may have to wait and be sitting with others. They do speak minimal English and the menus have English translations. We were seated at a corner table on our last visit with kids and had a decent amount of space. I had the meat plate to start out with, which was a great selection of roughly sliced meats, with accompanying sides. For my entree, I had the pasta with meat sauce. The pasta was Tagliatelle, cooked perfectly al dente and the meat sauce was good. Not a ton of meat, but for the price you pay, can't be beat. Lunch starts at 12:00, and does seem to fill up quickly. You may end up being seated by at a table with other diners, just roll with it. The food makes it worth. As you walk past Osteria Il Buongustai, you'll get a bit of that awesome smell of a kitchen that's churning out delicious eats. It's no joke, and as you enter the establishment, you'll see the kitchen to the left and the ladies working away. The style of food is what I'd imagine I'd get if I had an awesome Italian Auntie cooking me up a lunch (good). My friend and I split a Caprese Salad, Pasta with tomato sauce, and a plate of cured meats, cheese, and a pickled artichoke heart. The meat/cheese plate also came with a bruschetta and (my favorite) beans on a piece of french toast with truffle oil. One of the most delightful combinations that I never would have thought of. Their house wine was 4.50 Euro for 1/2 a liter. Do not rely on Google maps for this location, you'll need to walk a block or two south (same street) of the marked location on Google Maps. We are glad we got to eat at this osteria (mom & pop eatery that offers local dishes at reasonable prices) and I got to sample the Beef tripe which I'm told is 1 of Tuscany's comfort foods. I've always liked beef tripe whether it's menudo, chitlins or my favorite Dim sum pick of beef tripe so when I saw it on the menu I knew I had to get it. And at only €7 it was a steal. We got a bottle of the local Chianti as well. My girl had the mozzarella artichoke salad and we shared a side dish of beans in olive oil. We stuck with simple dishes because that's what this osteria is known for....home cooking at reasonable prices. Three women+one itty bitty kitchen+not too many seats=a really delicious place for lunch in Florence. Prices are super reasonable: bruschetta is €3 (there are a variety of delicious options), salads and crepes are €6.50, panini are €5, and pastas are about €6. And, everything is delicious! The penne with taleggio and pesto was SO tasty--don't miss it is you like pesto. The crepes are hearty; they're basically panini but in a crepe instead of bread (same fillings). I sort of bullied my husband into ordering the crepe with bresaola, brie, and pine nuts; he wasn't thrilled but went for it...turned out to be one of the best things on the table. Thin crepe, creamy, savory brie, salty bresaola, sweet, creamy pine nuts..I could really go for one of those right now. We spent €42 on lunch for four, including beers. This hole in the wall in the heart of touristy center of Florence exceeded my expectations. The pangs of hunger necessitated finding a place to eat quick after I checked into the hotel. Wandering the streets, I came across this super small establishment that was full except for several counter spaces, and an open kitchen that was hyperactive fulfilling the dining orders. The prices were ridiculously low and had it not been late in the afternoon I would have ordered the standard two-three course lunch with wine. I sensibly tamed the desire to do for the sake of dinner, and ordered the Tuscan crostini (with chicken pate) and Tripa alla Florentina. Was it good? Probably the best Pasta dish I have ever had!! Don't get me wrong it wasn't "fancy" just good homemade tasty pasta at an amazing price! I paid 7€ for a generous portion size of Porccini Tagliatelle which was simple but delicious! My fiancé ordered the Crab bow tie pasta for 8€ which he surprisingly said he preferred mine! Even though mine was vegetarian (he is such a carnivore).Nonetheless he still enjoyed his dish. We shared a quarter litre of house red for 4.5€ and shared one portion of a simple tomato and olive oil buschetta for 3€ With a belly full on 22.5€ you can't complain! It honestly feels like you've stepped into Mumma's Kitchen it's rustic but warming. The waitstaff knew limited English but we are in Italy after all so that's part of the fun! I ordered Pasta with Ragu and Grilles Vegetables on the side. My dishes came out way too fast, looking "pretty humble". The pasta was absolutely cold and there was no pasta in it. I told the waitress that it was cold and she said something "changed". Maybe 20 minutes later a completely different looking pasta dish has arrived (the correct one). In the meantime I couldn't possibly continue with my soggy vegetables wondering if this was really the Grilled Vegetables I had ordered. Guess what? My waitress said "changed". So she got both of my orders mixed up in such a small small restaurant when she wrote both of them down. An innocent mistake? Hell no! I know what exactly happened here. She just brought to me different orders that might have been left overs from other tables or returned from other tables, thinking that I wouldn't tell the difference. She purposely deceived me thinking that she could get away with it. She apologized to me but the real reason she was sorry was that I had found out she was being a dirty liar. she probably wished that I was an Ignorant tourist but she has picked the wrong person. And she wouldn't have apologized to me if I hadn't brought it up. Don't go here please. Not sure if it was because I didn't speak Italian or I was Asian or I was by myself. But intentional dishonesty with a customer should never be forgiven. This experience completely ruined my day in Florence. Terrible terrible restaurant. Again please DO NOT go here. Osteria I Buongustai was the only restaurant we ate at multiple times during our stay in Florence. Not only is their food incredibly authentic and delicious, but their specials page changes daily, so it can be a different meal experience each time! The first time we went, we ate a bit early and thankfully beat the line. The dining space is really small and the tables are packed in. This place gets SO busy during lunch time, so beating the rush is highly recommended. The restaurant is run primarily by two women who are doing pretty much everything and never stop running around. Even still, they are attentive and food comes out quickly. The menu is pretty extensive for such a small spot, but we only ordered from the daily specials pages. Their pasta dishes are some of the best that we found in the city. Everything we ordered was delicious, but my husband's tagliatelle with spinach and cheese was one of our favorites. My favorite dish was a plate of prosciutto, pecorino and pieces of fried dough (coccoli fritti). The dish was simple but delicious because the quality of the meat and cheese was so high. The price is so reasonable for the quality and amount of food. Our typical order for two would include two glasses of wine, water, two pasta dishes and two coffees, and we never paid more than around 30 euro. Such a great bargain for such a great dining experience right in the heart of the city! read more

This little restaurant is very close to Brunelleschi's dome, so it's convenient to go to after a tiring climb. They have amazing food for very good prices and the specials are different each day so I may even go back again. My friends and I got the pasta with zucchini, tomatoes, and cheese, as well as beef. Love this place!! If I lived in Florence, I'd be a regular. It's a smaller restaurant and only three women operate everything - taking orders, cooking, serving, busing, ect. This place feel so homey and lively, like some Italian aunts just adopted me, think I'm too skinny, and fed me a bunch to fatten me up. I wanted to try some Tuscan food so I got the tripe in tomato sauce. I was expecting it to be tough, but it was so unbelievably tender and flavorful! This is hands down my favorite lunch spot in Florence. I discovered this tiny trattoria a few years ago when I used to work in Piazza della Signoria. It can be a tough area to find decent food (price wise as well) food so this was most welcome and continues to be unbeatable as far as quality and price. I take everyone who visits me here and me and tommaso dream about what we are going to order before coming. They have a daily menu and I highly recommend ordering off that list. I love their pasta alla carbonara, risotto, crostini, and especially their dessert. They have some of the BEST desserts I've ever tried and they tend to go fast. It's always the same three ladies who work there and the kitchen is open to the public to view. It's tiny so get their early between 12-1pm and secure your spot. Remember that Italians are expert line-stealers so if it's crowded and you are waiting for a seat, make sure and remind the waitress or at least remain in sight. Prices vary from 5-8 for a first plate (pasta etc). House wine is good as well as their coffee. read more

6 of us wandered in for lunch and even though it was crowded with (mostly local) customers, we were seated within 5 minutes. Staff was very friendly and patient with our limited Italian. We ordered pici with wild boar, cheesy spaghetti (this was the English translation), spinach, and.... the best part of the meal: WARM ricotta cheesecake and tiramisu. The desserts were the main draw for us, as I'd previously read about them. The ricotta cheesecake was very special and you should 100% try it if you go! The tiramisu was really good too but I haven't really had bad tiramisu yet, so if you have to choose one dessert (which you shouldn't have to if you're on vacation!!) you should get the cheesecake. The service is a bit sparse as there only appears to be one lady taking orders, serving food, and clearing tables in a very busy restaurant. The pasta is definitely al dente but I loved every bite of my carbonara. It's a charming spot run by a bunch of older Italian ladies and you can watch them shave meat, cook pasta, and slice cheese in the entryway of the restaurant. This is also where I had the best slice of tiramisu I've ever encountered in my life. I don't normally order tiramisu but I think I could've eaten the entire cake. It was light and fluffy and mind-blowing amazing. Do yourself a favor and order a piece while you're there. The hours posted on yelp are wrong but I'm not quite sure how the food service hours work here so I can't correct them. Off of a small narrow street, this cozy restaurant is that 'hole in the wall' experience you are looking for while in Florence. The seating is tight but well worth it. The staff was friendly but the star was the food. I started with the Lardo di Colonatta, which is bacon fat on a large bruchetta bread. Doesn't sound appealing but it is delicious. The salty slivers of bacon fat floating atop the hearty crunchy bread gets the appetite going. The different textures between the components is what made this appetizer shine. The entree Paccheri Salsicca Amaretti e Pecorino had the pasta cooked Al dente which is not to hard and not to soft. Still had bite to it without becoming mushy. This is something you want to take your time enjoying. The texture of the pasta, the light choosing of the sauce, the taste of the pecorino all melded together at one point, then you taste each part individually. Just a bit small so be prepared to share a table with others if you're eating alone or as a couple. We had the gnocchi pesto pasta (8 euros) and steak salad (13 euros) - both were so good! The pasta was soft with a bit of chew to it, and the pesto was so flavourful. Some of the best pesto I had while travelling Italy. The steak came as a salad, which we didn't expect but turned out to be better than just a solid slab of meat. Paired with arugula, tomatoes and Parmesan, it was quite large and filling. The steak was done well with a crisp exterior, and they placed the slices on top. We also had two bruschetta slices to start, walnut + Gorgonzola and prosciutto + pecorino sheep cheese. Awesome place. The ladies here do good work! At first I felt out of place because it was all locals which is a good thing but you feel weird. I tried to speak mostly Italian to them but gave up. They do speak good English so don't be afraid. We asked for suggestions and they were happy to help. The women make everything right there so it's small but they are pretty quick. We got the pomodoro bruschetta and it was awesome. Then we had an olive and cheese salad which was yummy and fresh. Delicious! A bit hard to find (Google maps will likely fail you), but I think the place was pretty close to Leonardo Shoes, a somewhat famous leather goods shop. The restaurant had a very homey feel, and patrons were a mix of locals and visitors alike. All the items are well-priced and well-prepared (you won't go wrong with almost any of the pasta selections), but I think their tiramisu deserves special commendation.
