So stinkin' cute! We felt like we were in a 1950's tv show. The waitress who called me 'hon'? Check! The retired farmer who walked in saying 'ooh it's a hot one out there!'? Check! The local couple enjoying their fried chicken saying 'howdy' to us? Check! We mostly wanted to look around, enjoy the décor, use the bathroom (haha) and get a snack to go for my daughter. She chose a Root Beer Float and said it was one of the best she's ever had- they used Mug root beer for it and homemade vanilla ice cream, scooped out of the machine- nice & authentic. Considering that there are hardly any dining options along the interstate, stumbling into this adorable Starlite Diner feels like such a find! It's easy to get into a rut on a long road trip, especially with (albeit self imposed) dietary restrictions, and I was almost giddy seeing the gleaming diner from the road. It was like an oasis calling me. However, that is pretty much where I stopped being enamored with this stop. After snapping a few pictures out front and coming inside, I was barely greeted by our curt waiter. No matter how polite we were, he remained gruff throughout my meal. He did take and bring our order without mistake, and refilled my coffee at least once. I did notice that the booth and table were clean when we were seated, but the walls, floors, and windows were questionable at best. The bathroom seemed acceptably clean, but the whole place seems in desperate need of a deep cleaning. The food was acceptable but it wasn't anything to write home about. I ordered a salad and the in-house made dressing was good. The omelette my husband ordered looked okay. They were accommodating to replace the potatoes with a salad to make the meal acceptably keto. I honestly had a fun experience eating here. My boyfriend and I were on a road trip and stopped here for lunch because we were starving. I don't eat meat and thought one of their specials was an ultimate bean burger. Come time when our food is coming out it turns out I had ordered an ultimate BACON burger! The complete opposite of what I thought I'd ordered lol and I said I would just eat the fries that had come with my burger. Our waitress went back and told the chef what had happened and they both laughed a little and then the chef said she would not let me go without eating. Neglected service @ 11 am. Came in and only one other customer there. We were greeted and told where to sit. We had menus and were asked our drink order. Then two more tables came in and were seated. Both tables had their orders taken and we had not been waited on yet. Our waitress was on her phone. The other waitress knew we hadn't been waited on but made no attempt to get our waitress. After we decided to leave she did apologize to my husband and offer to take our order. We declined and left. Disappointed. read more

On the way back from Kansas we stopped at this cute diner. Big mistake. It is a true diner. The history of the building is on the back of the menu. It was a long read and I confess I didnt read it. I got a horrible reuben sandwich I only ate half of. Her burrito was adequate. I got a peach pie with ice cream. Her pie was cold but not frozen. My pie was frozen solid.. I just cant believe how bad it was. The fries were ok and the ice tea was strong.That all folks. Denver is not far away hang on for food there. read more

We "found" this place via I-phone queries when we were about 30 miles away. Not mush else around, but very conveniently located near the interstate (easy on, easy off). Definitely a throwback kind of place with lots of nostalgia on the walls, and an old Caddy sedan de ville on a rotating pedestal outside. Now to the food. Standard diner menu with plenty of egg choices and entrees. Friend had fried chicken, his son had eggs, etc, and I had Salisbury steak. No complaints from any of us. Good, hearty fare. We walked in because the place had good reviews, the waitress or hostess looks at us and doesn't say anything but there is a sing that says wait for hostess to be seated... so after standing there i asked her do we just sit anywhere or? And she told us to sit anywhere on the right side (wtf did this woman think I was doing standing by the door when there is only three customer in there, admiring the place?). Eastern Colorado is a somber wasteland of lost population, abandoned towns and failing businesses of all sort. So the fact that recently built shiny diner arrive a few years no doubt gave pride to his bleak stretch of I-70. Little cards on each table please the customers to contact Guy Fieri to come and visit with his sow "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives". THE problem is, other than being bright stainless steel classic looking diner, it has no calling card. No giant burgers, no killer cinnamon rolls, no green chili with an interesting twist. Like a pop song with no hook, this diner just languishes. The menu is boring, the French Dip I had tasted -processed. The fountain Pepsi tasted flat and metallically, the waitress? "Oh yeah, that happens a lot" An d had to remind her to take it off the tab. The windows are filthy, the TV above the counter are 9" portables. Odd for a newly installed diner (2009). Praise to the small town hot shot who decided to make this place go. But it lacks identity and quality which is a perilous mix. In an area rife with failed businesses, I fear for the I-70 diner. read more

We just had honestly the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. If I could give 0 or negative stars, I would. We arrived at about 12:30 today and were seated by a waitress (probably in her 50's or so). She was nice and got us our drinks. We ordered. Then, we proceeded to wait for over an HOUR AND A HALF, long enough to realize how dirty and grimy everything was. I mean, truly slimy and grimy. There was ketchup on the window next to our table and a mysterious greasy substance on the wall. Our waitress finally came back over and explained that somehow our ticket had been moved to the very back and was not even started yet. Needless to say, we left and went to the sub shop next door, where we were able to get food right away. All I can figure is that there was a table complaining loudly to their waitress (really rude younger lady with pinkish/purple hair) that they were on their way to Missouri and could she hurry it up and she must've switched the order of the tickets. Hope funny colored hair girl got a good tip from that table because we will not be back, and we are local so we will be spreading the word about our terrible experience. Also, to the owner: the signs about how you can't get anyone to work and political signs are immature and ridiculous. Instead of making signs, run your business and treat people right. Then again, I don't think you'll have to worry about your inability to get and keep employees if you pull the kind of crap that you pulled today with customers. No customers = no need for employees. And for goodness sakes, clean the place up a bit. It seemed super unsanitary during non-pandemic times, but even worse during a pandemic. read more

What's important was our server was extremely apologetic, and made it right (partially comped the meal). They were obviously understaffed through no fault of the servers. This place is a s***hole. Had an early dinner here today. I have driven past this place 30+ times over the years have always wanted to stop in. I regret doing so. The restaurant on the outside is so awesome, I freaking LOVE old diners. Seriously, I travel across the country for my job and I make an effort to find old school diners where ever I go. The aesthetic of this place is the reason I give any stars. Everything else about this place is subpar and mediocre. The waitress I had was bothered by every request, whether it be for a drink she forgot to bring or hot sauce for my hash browns. I ordered a malt to go and she didn't bother to listen to me, and brought me a strawberry instead of a chocolate malt. I asked for chocolate and honestly one could've thought the world stopped turning. She was so frickin rude about it! I couldn't believe it. When you walk inside it's immediately apparent that this place is not taken care of all that well. The table I sat at had filthy walls and a nasty sun blind full of dust and bugs. The men's bathroom was absolutely disgusting! I mean filthy f****** dirty like a truck stop. I ordered a French dip with hash browns. Very hard to mess any of that up. The French dip was cold, the roast beef had barely been warmed and a lump of nasty cheese was thrown on top with no attempt to melt it or toast the sandwich. The hash browns were undercooked and frozen in some areas. The coffee was old, bitter and burnt and even the effing Diet Pepsi tasted like it had chalk in it. The women working this place are all toothless, older and very short with customers. I'm not exaggerating, there were maybe 4-5 working tonight and there are a total of maybe 10 healthy teeth between the lot of them. If you're not good at math I'll save some effort, that's two healthy teeth PER PERSON. They were all wearing tank tops and dirty jeans, cooking over the flat top with no hair nets. I watched them bring ice in a bucket that one would use to mop with. The counter where they expect you to pay for your future food poisoning has a dell computer on top of it, with a keyboard that clearly has NEVER been cleaned in its life. I wish I took a picture, it was CAKED with dirt and grime. Meanwhile the women taking money was the only actual waitress and not once did she wash her hands. Which means every plate of food coming out, every drink cup is being touched by the hands that touch that disgusting keyboard. The amount of cross contamination going on in this place is CONCERNING. To top off this experience, I look over at the coffee area and see an old "Mammy" statue sitting behind the coffee maker. Mind you, this is a greasy diner in the middle of farmland. Nothing but white trash around here. Seeing this racist propaganda fully visible in a place like this is so disappointing. This restaurant has a cool history and all of that is ruined by the way it's being run. This was one of the worst dining experiences of my life, no doubt. Save your money and spend it somewhere people care about making good food. This place is a dump. read more

I'd driven past this diner sooo many times I finally decided to give the place a try in 2019. After all, it's got that 1950s/60s iconic diner look. Bad choice. It was dirty. The floors were dirty. I could see trash piling up on the floor behind the coffee pot. The service was slow for a weekday afternoon and the burger I had was dry. In March 2021 I decided to give them another try. Maybe things had changed. Yeah, right! It was just as dirty. The floors look dirty. The tables have dried food stains on them. The booth seats had food crumbs all over them. They all look liked they're barely wiped down at all. The menu was sticky. I ordered the steak and eggs. I got eggs over easy and a lukewarm steak. Th service was slow and the young high school age waitress wasn't going out of her way to be nice, inviting, friendly. I told myself I'd never go back. Well, I'm going back on Wednesday, August 17, 2022. I'm on my way to Kansas and I'll give them one more chance to impress me and change my opinion about this diner. Will keep you posted. read more

Well we were in town to visit friends. We head up to diner for supper. Place our order...wait while people who came in after us got their food. Our food came and my sandwich a GRILLED chicken with cheese and tomato only had lettuce mayo tomato cheese and it was breaded. Told the waitress it was wrong and what was wrong... she took it back and scraped and most of mayo off and brought it back. Told her it still wasnt right she apologized and took it back. Everyone else ate their food when sandwich came out again grilled... with everything on it!! Back it goes again so third time it came out with cheese tomato and MAYO. This diner was a welcome break in a long stretch of I-70. We had a super waitress who was friendly and helpful. My omelet was exceptionally tasty and straight off the grill. Service was ok, service should be the main focus in any establishment but this diner won't win awards for its service. Let's focus on the main reason for this visit! For ambiance, this is a 5-star diner! It is a classic 1950s diner car that has all the expected ephemera art-wise. The food we had was great - breakfast burritos, smothered with green chile made with GROUND pork - not a usual find for me, but they did this version very well; VERY tasty green chile! The coffee was great, the service was morose, and the opening time: 8am?!?! I thought diners opened earlier than this. We had to wait for it to open, and were the only ones there - I would think truckers on I-70 would make this a religious stop - being out there on the fringes of the plains, middle of nowhere. You can tell that the proprietors take pride in the upkeep of the place. Breakfast is served all day.
