We pass through Limon a couple of times a year and always viewed it as a convenient pit-stop, a collection of gas stations and fast food places. This trip, we were in Limon around noon and we were looking for lunch, something better than fast food. Doing what any good Yelper would do, I checked Yelp and found great recommendations for Oscar's. Oscar's was actually at the next exit off of I-70 (the exit closest to Denver). I had a "slipper" which is a cheeseburger smothered with green chili. It's a knife and fork burger and it was exceptional. My wife had the French Connection which is basically a French dip sandwich with fries. Also excellent. Bailey, our server, was excellent and service overall was excellent. The interior decor is unique. Oscar's is a Hollywood themed restaurant with lots of old movie memroberlia including some big, old movie cameras. Oscar's is definitely a hidden gem along I-70. I now have a favorite restaurant in Limon and forward to my next trip across Colorado. read more

Luckily... we landed at Oscar's Bar & Grill in Limon--and this turned out to be one of those "right place, right time" kind of stops. From the outside, it's a classic roadside bar & grill, but once you step inside, it's got personality--movie memorabilia, neon lights, pool table, and that relaxed, local hangout vibe. The kind of place where you just know you're going to get a solid meal. We weren't looking for anything heavy--just something good--and the $9.99 burger special caught our attention right away. Enter Sherry--our server--and she absolutely made the experience. Friendly, engaging, and confident in her recommendations (always a good sign). She pointed me straight to the Texas BBQ Burger, and that was the move. Smoky, slightly sweet BBQ sauce (house-made and legit) Crispy onion rings stacked right on top Juicy burger cooked just right That first bite told me everything I needed to know--this place knows what it's doing. I paired it with coleslaw, which was surprisingly solid--fresh, not overdressed, and a nice balance to the richness of the burger. We passed on appetizers and dessert this time, but based on the menu (and Sherry's confidence), there's definitely more here worth exploring. Bottom line: If you're rolling through Limon--especially on a holiday when options are slim--Oscar's is a no-brainer. Great service, good food, fair prices, and a welcoming local vibe. This place also has tons of bourbon. Make sure to check out the binder of bourbon. But our bartender Sari was amazing and made an epic Old Fashioned. Good and service was excellent. I ordered the tomahawk steak and mashed potatoes with brown gravy and loved every bite. Steak was cooked perfectly and although the mashed potatoes were of a much thicker consistency than I'm used to receiving it was very tasty. I will definitely return. read more

While traveling to Pinedale Wyoming for the annual Mountain Man Rendezvous & Festival, we stopped here to gas up and noticed Oscar's Restaurant so we thought we'd give it a try for supper since when I travel I always try to find one of a kind Mom and Pop sort of places. Once you get inside, you realize that Oscar is not a guy's name, it's a reference to the Academy Awards. It had a lot of dark wood and some old movie projectors and a lot of interesting movie related diversions around the place including a pool table that is only allowed play by people 18 years and older which disappointed my 7-year-old grandson but he got over it. The boy had a Barbecued Chicken Pizza, I had The French Connection which was a delicious French Dip Sandwich on a baguette served with a side of Au jus, as to be expected and it was very nice. For the money, it could have had a little bit more Beef on it but I'm not going to complain because it was quite delicious. My brother had The Slopper which is a burger with cheese swamped with wonderful green chili so much that it had to be eaten with a knife and fork. Our server Jo was very helpful and she explained things and kind of helped us through the menu and the entire experience. There was a lot more high-end to the menu that we weren't taking the time to try or enjoy however I think you could probably get a good steak in this place and the bar business looked to be doing enough to keep things going for a local crowd that stops in there regularly to have a drinkipoo with the truckers. read more

My husband and I lived in Byers, CO back in the early 90's and haven't been back to Colorado since then. However, passing through on our way from Greenville, TX back home to Idaho after buying a travel trailer, we picked this place because I wanted something different and not a chain restaurant. We loved the movie memorabilia all over the place! We met Mark (assuming he is the owner), quite a character! We chatted with him for a few and he gave us a free dessert, the upside strawberry shortcake. I am not a sweet tooth, but I must say this was one of the best (my husband agreed) dessert we had! This was our 2nd time eating here as we passed through for a conference. The first experience was absolutely lovely! Good food and service. Our 2nd stop in was such a disappointment. The food was very good but the way the server treated us was unacceptable. We ordered waters as we were driving through (responsible) and that seemed to have started the service going down hill. The server acted annoyed. We then ordered sandwiches. Again the server acted annoyed as if that would change her tip with us not spending more on one of their more elaborate meals. Again, all the food we have tried has been amazing. She never came back with water refills and when she did return it was with check in hand and hurried attitude. We politely paid and left a very generous tip as this was our purpose that meal, brighten someone's day. The FOH has it goin' on! Excellent, neighborly service, clean restaurant, very clean restrooms, fun movie themed decor. This is obviously someone's labor of love. Yes, the loud "new country" music is an abject horror and should be considered a form of torture, but hey, if SOMETHING wasn't wrong, at a truck stop in Limon, CO, I'd be VERY suspicious... If they ever step up the food game to match the excellence up front, this joint will be legendary. As it is, it's hit-and miss, exactly as the reviews would suggest. My pot roast was just as good as the server said, while my wife's burger and the bacon on it were overcooked, despite being ordered medium. The water is hideous (if not downright dangerous) here, so order soda with lime for refreshment. They have a bar but no cocktail program, and no tap beer, just bottles. But the selections are food-friendly, and worth a look. This place could be as epic and legendary as the stars and athletes whose photos grace the walls here, if they play to their strengths, hone the menu to what they do best, get a cocktail menu happening and quit trying to please everyone with food they're not good at making. They've already got an FOH most owners/managers would give a limb for. Advice to the management: hire and keep a good BOH staff and a knowledgeable barkeep. Don't skimp. Recommended. read more

Similar to what I've warned in previous reviews, Oscar's can get REAL busy. So if your pulling in off the Interstate during lunch or dinner hrs., don't be surprised if you have to wait a few minutes for a table. Thus place is AWESOME. The menu can be found online, and if you think it's just another burger joint, think again. My wife ordered the Texas BBQ Burger, and I had the Hello Lucy "The Cubano." Both sandwiches were excellent, with my wife saying that hers could have been the best sandwich EVER, and we travel lots. My sandwich was also great, with just the right amount of Dijon, ham, and pulled pork. McKinzie, or server was spot on with promptness, a great attitude (even tho the place was packed) and stopping by to see how our meals were. Here it is folks. Like I said, the place was packed and we travel lots. We believe the condition of restrooms are as important as the food. Oscar's didn't disappoint. Great job, Oscar's. Bottom line? 5 stars. Who knew there could be such good food in such a small town - we knew it must be good based on the number of vehicles in the parking lot!!! I am SOOOOOOO glad we stopped here to eat!!
