Looking for a lunch spot on the way to the Springs, Fort Morgan was the upcoming town. Though nothing was really looking too exciting we chose Home Plate. Upon arrival, we weren't sure since there is no signage on the building, but felt better because the parking lot was full, then once inside the place was packed. We did wait awhile before menus came, but our waitress was hustling. Drinks arrived and a basket of chips and salsa. Per the waitress's suggestion I got the shredded beef and bean Sopapilla. It was huge - chock full of beef inside a crispy pastry smothered in a thick, pale green sauce, possibly Colorado Pueblo Chili sauce. (Sour cream and guacamole were extra charges) It was really good. My husband had the smothered Crispy Chili Relleno Burrito. It was crispy, even wrapped in a tortilla and smothered with the same green sauce. Don't know how it was done, but again-very good. This one came with rice, beans, sour cream and guacamole. The entire staff were friendly and helpful always there to offer a refill. I would not call this a sports bar. Maybe they are transitioning into a Mexican restaurant. Though plenty of non Mexican items to choose from and many people were still getting breakfast at 1:00. Met my daughter here for breakfast today. Location is great since it's about halfway between the Front Range and my home. We had a nice leisurely breakfast, and our server noticed and urged us to take our time. She had a basic eggs, bacon, hash browns meal. It included four well cooked strips of thick bacon, which I found generous. I had a smothered breakfast burrito; very filling, and also loaded with bacon. Restrooms were clean and well supplied. Such great food! It was a great place to stop outside of Denver and not have to deal with all the city people. It was super busy when we pulled up so we knew we were at a good spot. Traveling through the area a nice sit down place for breakfast is always welcome and the Home Plate is that place. The wait staff was spot on with service and a smile. The food is good, the eggs cooked correctly and our meals arrived hot. Their green chili was good with regional flavors. The bacon cooked correctly (not overly crispy nor under done). Another home run for Home Plate. This restaurant and sports bar is conveniently located just off the highway. It is not fancy or gourmet, but very good for this type of restaurant. This is the second time we've had breakfast here. We found this spot through Google maps while driving from Keystone, CO, to Minneapolis, MN. When I arrived, it said weat yourself. Several unbussed tables, so I found one toward the back. The waitress was harried and maybe the only one waiting tables. I went to the front stand to get a menu to look while I waited, and she didn't like that- said she'd be right with me. We ordered within 5 min of being seated, and an omelette and oatmeal took 35-40 min to come. Waitress was very blunt about being busy and if you asked for smtg she acted put out. I had avoided home plate recently as it was always inconsistent. sometimes the food and service would be great but more often then not it was very sub-par. Recently things have really seemed to improve the last couple of visits. The chicken fried steak breakfast platter has been excellent. crispy coating, hot hash browns and freshly made gravy (usually is cold and far too thick). Service holds up nicely especially during the crazy breakfast hours as it can get quite packed. They also have some of the best burgers in town! read more

Where to begin, well let's start with the sizes of chicken that came with my fried chicken dinner, pathetic is the only word I know to describe them, as you can see in the picture. Half the staff is friendly, the other half, i would rather not say, but would guess tired and aggravated is all that comes to mind. The food looked and tasted over cooked. The Home Plate Restaurant was found tucked between 2 exit ramps for Fort Morgan, when we arrived we were surprised how busy it was, definitely a local hot spot! The Home Plate is in a newer or remodeled building and is clean with plenty of seating both booths and chairs. Breakfast was good, simple, home cooking. We had omelets, toast, hash browns, and pancakes. Also many Mexican options were available for breakfast or lunch. Portions size was very good, and great service too boot! Very typical restaurant for the midwest. The menu seems a bit wide spread. Service is questionable. Prices are low and I think this slows in the style of place this is. Not sure why they put fish on the menu, be warned its frozen fish sticks. The bathroom is cleaned mostly but could use a update. The locals seem to like these kind of places however I think with lack of choices there not much to choose from. You will find this to be the hang out place for older couples. As one reviewer states it feels like a cafeteria feel and this is do to the lack of decor. Its a very open layout and seems vary sterile. This place missed the mark. Though friendly and doing his best, our waiter was overwhelmed waiting on ten tables at once. My beef vegtable soup was served hot (as opposed to warm like many restaurants) which was the end of the good things to say about the meal itself. I ordered the grilled chicken salad, which arrived with a big hunk of brown lettuce underneath the greens on top. They do not offer a lo cal dressing...do all salad eaters like a high fat dressing with their salad? Hmmm..This was also the first time I have been served wraqpped crackers with my salad....perhaps they were out of croutons?? I guess I will never know. Was in town for a football scrimmage and needed some lunch. It's a seat yourself place and there was a good amount of seating. Our waitress greeted us and took our drink order, took all of 2mins of that to have them back at our table. My son ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with no garnish and fries and I had the patty melt (see pic) with extra onions and cheese and fries. It came out as quick as we ordered it and it was HOT!! It was delicious and our waitress was great! Next time the rest of my family is up here I will definitely be stopping again.
