I attended Michael C's Ubuntu release party (I may have arrived a little early) with my Dell Dimension 2400, and I'm not sure which one of us had the better time. Upon entering Red Seven, I noticed a long table full of fruit and veggie trays, appetizers, snacks and desserts. In a corner of the store was an actual bartender who was ready to serve up cocktails, beer, wine or soft drinks. Michael greeted me promptly, directed me to a spot where I could rest my computer, and invited me to have a drink and look around while the install technician was finalizing his preparations for the evening's event. That's when I noticed the low prices of their computers. The first system I came across was $250, with others dipping below the two hundred mark. When I initially walked in, Michael was with a customer, so I listened in to their conversation as I browsed. Michael seems like the kind of knowledgeable salesman who doesn't just want to make a sale, but wants to make a fit. When the install area was ready, Chris came out to the store floor, and Michael introduced me to him. Chris carried my mini-tower to the technician area, with me in tow. We chatted for a bit as he removed the side panel and looked inside, where he found some of my handiwork (a secondary hard drive hanging by the ribbon). Immediately, he went into a bin and retrieved a hard drive housing, and secured my hardware. Chris is a very personable guy, who enjoys making music using his computer. He even let me check out a few of his tracks when I asked about them. Michael ordered several pizzas, so I indulged while watching masters of Ubuntu showcase the new product on two of Red Seven's floor models. The place got pretty full, with several attendees being from a retirement community. That's pretty cool. An hour an a half later, the install was complete, and I now had several desktops available within a spinney cube. If you go down to Red Seven, they can show you exactly what that means. So you ask: What was the charge for this service? Not a penny. Because this was a release party, they provided this service free of charge, while providing the attention one would pay top dollar for. PLEASE NOTE - Red Seven is also called Hyperion Works and the Tempe and Mesa locations are now closed. Their ONLY location is at US-60 and Rural. It's a little tricky to find. It's south of the US-60 off a little unnamed street. You pull into the hotel parking lot. Hang a left through the archway. The store is on the first floor behind the fountain. This is the only place I will take my computer for virus removal. No matter who works on my computer, it gets done right and for a competitive price too. Their turnaround time is reasonable compared to other places. You can't ask for anything more. To boot, one guy who did my repair switched out Vista for Windows 8 for free saying that it was more secure. He also installed Microsoft Essentials, my malware detector, for free. read more

I originally wanted to give this company 5 stars. First some fore-story. I assembled a brand new custom PC totaling $2200 in parts. I must've missed a cable or wire somewhere as it would not boot up to bios. I called several computer companies and finally settled on giving Hyperion works a try. They offered a free diagnosis. Drop your computer off and in 24 hours they will give you a quote and what's wrong with your computer. (Allegedly). The next day I received a call and they said they're not quite sure what's wrong yet and they need 24 more hours. (Meanwhile this is Thursday). The next day on Friday I never received a call. I called their office just after 5pm and got to speak with an answering service person who informed me she didn't know anything about my computer and the technicians already went home. Plus they are off all weekend so I wouldnt hear anything until Monday. After I told her how unacceptable that was she said "I'm sure you'll get a discount on whatever you owe" I said uh no I dropped it off for the FREE diagnosis 2 days ago!! Apparently she got a hold of the technician who called me about 30 mins later and left a voicemail that they are still working on it. Monday rolled around and I received a call in the morning that they ended up tearing it down completely and rebuilding it because they could t figure it out or confirm thru a visual that I had something connected wrong. Rebuilding it apparently fixed it as it now boots to bios. I was extremely happy went to pick it up and even tipped the tech (Chris) who is extremely polite and professional by the way. When I got home I noticed a huge scratch down the side of my case and glass. Luckily, it almost buffed out. (Almost) Also there was thermal paste all over my cables and on my GPU (the single most expensive piece of hardware in the machine.) Because of the condition my case was in and the lack of care for it im unable to rate them higher then 3 stars. I took my computer there because it kept crashing on me and I gave up trying to repair it myself. They kept the computer for a few days and inspected it, ran some heat tests because we all thought it was a over heating issue. To my surprise they couldn't find a problem with the computer as it suddenly was working out of nowhere (had it off for 3 weeks before finally swallowing my pride and admitting defeat) they were extremely honest and kept in touch to keep me updated. Although they didn't find a problem cause my computer decided to throw me under the bus and make me look like a idiot and start working, I appreciate there honesty and taking the time to try and figure out the problem. Definitely know where I'm going again if the damn thing starts acting up again, as it's hard to find a reputable and honesty computer place like this. We have been using Red7 for a number of years now. We have all of our office computers on their lease program and that has worked out very well. First of before even getting to what they helped me with, I must say that they're customer service skills are among the best that I've ever dealt with (especially Chris). Very polite, calm and prompt. Now to the technical aspect: I have a custom PC that was no longer booting up and was at my wits end trying what I could at home. After finally swallowing my pride, I took it to this shop after reading other good reviews. After about 24 hrs they called me to let me know that I had a bricked motherboard. They let me know that I should be eligible for an RMA and how to contact support. They took out the motherboard for me. And after getting my replacement they installed the replacement. And the best part is that they only charged actual labor and not the diagnostic :D Will definitely come back if I ever need anything again and refer my friends here as well. read more

I have been her several times and have always had great experiences. This time my computer was having severe issues after installing Windows 10. The looked it over and found some bugs so did a complete cleaning. However this did not seem to fix the issued and the had to do a factory reset. They even upgraded my computer to a working Windows 10. Love this place. I have used them a few times as has the rest of my family. They always have great customer service skills. Most people hold themselves out as IT experts, but I've come to find their skill set is mediocre, at best. Nick Coons, is the exact opposite. I have a pretty good understanding of computers, but Nick is quite frankly a genius. There have been times when I cannot seem to figure out an issue, Nick will come to my office, write some code in the backend, and voila, the issue is fixed. Screen was broken. Took it in and a few hours later told me the costs. $180 for the new screen, $100 for the labor. Pricey from my perspective, and someone told me I should have just gotten a new laptop, but we'll see in the long run if I made the right choice (hope this laptop lasts a while longer)! I have now been to Hyperion twice for computer repairs. First time was fine, I needed a new charging port because mine broke. Geek Squad wanted to charge me $133 to fix the issue. I brought my computer to Hyperion and their initial estimate was $150, after I told them I already had a better quote, they dropped the price to $125. Obviously not much difference from Geek Squad but I guess I saved a little bit. On my 2nd visit, my computer was going through a Windows update which had stopped and appeared to be frozen. Every time I tried turning on my computer, I got the same "update" screen. So I brought my computer to Hyperion and they came back with an estimate of $100 to fix this issue. I was appalled. I said "No Thanks, ill take it elsewhere". I then decided to call Microsoft since this was an issue with their product (which is actually what Geek Squad told me to do). After spending just 10 min on the phone with a Microsoft representative, who walked me through troubleshooting the issue, my computer was fixed and good to go. Hyperion wanted to charge me $100 for something that I was able to fix on my own by making a simple 10 min telephone call. I will say that the people at Hyperion are nice and very friendly, but I believe they see an easy money grab when they see one. read more

I'm just reviewing the Ubuntu release party because I didn't use RedSeven's store as a service, but I did witness them being of assistance and service to several people there. I went to the Ubuntu release party as a gesture of love to my partner. This is their world and I try to be supportive. I thought it would be a cool idea to get them mixing it up with other people who know what Ubuntu is, what OS is all about. We came early at 5 and there were already a few people milling about the showroom. My partner commented over the evening how it was nice to see diversity in the crowd. People might think only cutting edge boy-geeks or CS majors were going to hang out at such a place, but there were women there (and not just as guy attachments either!) There were young and old and middle age users; users who were advanced and users who were new, people who didn't know anything about linux and people who were part of a local linux support group. The bartender for the event was quite fun, making sure you weren't without a drink unless you wanted to be and he chatted up all kinds of stories. No tickets, just a free bar and a tip jar, which meant good times if you're so inclined. The store was clean and was the right temperature for the event. Munchies ranged from chips and salsa to crackers and meats and cheese, macaroons and fresh fruit. Then several pizza's. They had a drawing for some RedSeven swag, but they were also giving away a FREE Linux computer with the new release installed! I didn't know this when we decided to attend and so we felt we had walked into something quite fortunate. Ah, it was Fortunate for Frank as he was the winner and he was quite happy. I ran into a lady there who told me why she comes to RedSeven. She had no idea there was an event tonight, but she was there to get things serviced. She is an extremely happy customer of theirs because they have always treated her so nice, they don't overcharge, they've done kind acts for free and basically she wouldn't go anywhere else. Nice to have your customers provide free advertising and that's what happens when you do the right thing. I also saw a flyer for one of their deals and the price was very reasonable, ok they were much lower than I expected to see in a small business, not big box enviroment. I am very happy to see a small, personally run business do the right thing and stay open. Kudos should go to RedSeven for hosting an Ubuntu release party. Despite the fact that the company has a vested interest in seeing Open Source proliferate, people should not confuse that with a core philosophy of wanting to encourage this way of computing for the benefit of the whole system. It's kind of like GreenPeace hosting an event that draws attention to their market, yes it may bring new converts and maybe donations to GreenPeace, but it's not all about their pocketbook it's about affecting a change in thinking for the benefit of the whole system. I enjoyed seeing the excitement in the eyes of people at that event, talking about something they feel will make a real difference. My partner left with a few networking contacts, I left with a few G&Tonics and a smile. All in all a nice Friday kick-off. read more

After a quick phone call, possibly two and a small flurry of activity, she/we acquired a very good bargain on a slightly used PC. I contacted Hyperion Works because i was having trouble with a pc that was shutting off during operation. They diagnosed the problem (the video card was dying), replaced the graphics card and had it ready to go in 1-2 days...and all at a price that was more than generous. Because my first experience with them was so positive, i had them assemble a custom pc for me (they let me buy the parts and just charged me a flat fee for assembly and installing the operating system.....though they offer pre-built solutions as well for people that don't want to pick out their own parts). They had my new pc fully operational and ready to go the next day. From start to finish, i found all levels of service to exceed my expectations. One thing that i especially appreciated is that every single time that i called in, somebody answered the phone. Hyperion Works are knowledgeable and technically proficient, offer quick turn around times and are extremely affordable. Highly recommend this place for all your computer repair needs! I gave my laptop to them on Friday because it wouldn't boot and into stuck in the startup loop when I tried to do a factory reset. The people at Geek Squad quoted me an absurd price just to run a diagnostic on it. I walked in to Hyperion Works and the lady there was very courteous and polite. I was told I would get a call after they ran a diagnostic which would take 24 hours, since they were closed over the weekend I expected a call today i.e. Monday. The lady called me and told me what was wrong and the first option and if that didn't work she suggested a full restore. If the first option did not work, they would do the full restore and only charge me for that, which I was really surprised by. Their prices are extremely reasonable and they genuinely care about their customers. I would even pay more because I don't feel like they are trying to gyp me like so many other places. I got my laptop back and they did an amazing job, I have no issues at all! read more

We just opened a small manufacturing company in Phoenix and needed a lot of help getting online and troubleshooting various connectivity/compatibility issues. About four years ago, a friend recommended Red7 for a repair I needed on an E-Machines desktop set I owned. The repair was handled quickly and at a better price than I expected (from other shops). When the E-Machine finally was too old to work with, I decided to lease from RED7. After three and a half years, they replaced the leased machine an updated model for no additional cost (besides the same monthly lease payment). In addition, I own a Toshiba laptop computer which helped tremendously when I covered Arizona's 2011 redistricting cycle (you can read about it on my blog http://ArizonaEagletarian.com ). Last week, my laptop went kaput. I took it to Red7. Again, the repair was less expensive than I expected before I went there. As a writer, having good computers is critical for me.
