TLDR: Hynes minimally communicates key info to customers. Furthermore, Mike is defensive and rude to customer feedback. Customer beware. I was referred to Hynes by MAPFRE after having my car dinged from the rear and being on the receiving end of a no-fault accident. MAPFRE said Hynes would take care of everything on the claims end, and they are a highly-reviewed small business near home: this all sounded great. Shortly after connecting with MAPFRE, I received a phone call from Hynes to bring in the car. Since it was a minor fender bender, I assumed that it would need to be in the shop 1-3 days. When I arrived at the shop, I was told they could not give me any estimate of when my car would be ready and to go get a rental. I explained that I was involved in a no fault accident. They told me to contact the other driver's insurance. This was helpful info, but they told it to me like I was stupid for not figuring this out for myself... No one said anything about typical repair time when they called. I followed instructions and got a rental from the local Enterprise they recommended. I dropped off my car toward the end of business on a Friday. I did not receive a call or update from Hynes by the following Friday, so I called and left a voicemail 1.5 weeks after dropping off the car. No one ever returned my call. I reached out to MAPFRE to see if I could get an update from them. They told me to contact the shop directly. After not hearing back from Hynes for 2.5 weeks after dropping off my car, I went to the office in person and arrived around 2:15/2:30pm. I spoke to the woman at the front desk who was scrolling on her phone when I arrived. She had to ask around and told me that my car was being cleaned and would be ready for pickup in 1hr. Mind you, their shop closes at 4pm and I would need to get things ready to return the rental asap. I tried to explain that it was frustrating not to receive an update for 2.5 weeks and be told with minimal advance notice that my car was ready for pickup. The staff person just stared at me blankly, and said she checks the voicemails and there were none. I offered to show her my cell phone record of when I called, and she just brushed me off. Zero acknowledgment how Hynes' lack of communication can put clients in a bind. I scrambled to put gas in the rental and prep it for return within the hour. At 3:09pm, I received a call from Mike at Hynes: I believe he is one of the owners or senior staff there. I tried a second time to give him feedback about my experience, and how the lack of communication was frustrating and negatively impacted my experience as a customer. He was very defensive and rude, cutting me off several times during the 3min conversation. Mike said there was no voicemail, and would not accept any offer from me to show him the record of the call I had made a week prior. He also said it is typical that repairs take 2 weeks, but made no acknowledgement that the customer wouldn't know this unless Hynes communicated it. Hynes likes to do things on their own time and expects customers to somehow know things without being told: I haven't been in an accident for 10+ years, and am not an expert in car repairs of this kind. Accidents are stressful and disorienting, and Hynes doesn't seem to understand that customers can feel more secure when things are explained and communicated in a timely fashion. They also would rather defend their passive practices vs have curiosity and receive reasonable client feedback. Last but not least, MAPFRE let me know that I would need to cover the deductible until the investigation is complete. Had they not, I would not have known and would have been surprised at the $500 payment at the time of car pickup. I will not be going back. This is a shame, as I was hoping to have a local shop to use in the future and to refer others. My expectation of Hynes was to receive a call/update when they had an estimate of how long the job would take; a call 1 business day before car was ready for pickup; and information that I would need to pay $500 at the time of pickup. They treated me like I was crazy for expecting more communication than a call at the moment the car was ready for pickup. Most people don't have that kind of schedule flexibility... read more

With regard to my earlier review: It turns out that a wire had been pinched and was broken. The mechanic (at a different shop!) replaced the wire and the horns are now working. Hynes insisted that they had tested the horns and that the horns were broken and needed replacing. They wanted a full day for the work. Instead, replacing the wire took a couple of hours. What other explanation could there be besides they were lying to me because they didn't want to take responsibility? read more

I dinged my brand new car by backing into something. My rear tail gate has a small crease dent that was fairly noticable and made me cringe when I looked at it. I did a search of auto body shops in near me (in Roslindale) and Hynes came up recommended in my searches and in the Roslindale FB group. I was initially a little nervous because my car was so new AND an EV (I drive a VW ID.4 2022). I have to say, the service done on my car was quality, quick, and affordable. First, I had my price quoted at a shop associated with a VW dealer, and they were asking for $1000! Hynes quoted me $650, which was significantly cheaper. My car was in the shop for a couple days, and it when it came out, the dent was gone and everything looked like it was new! Color matches perfectly, looks like nothing ever happened. My suv was stolen and when it was recovered, it was banged up all around. Main damage front driver quarter panel and dings and dents everywhere else. The inside of the vehicle was trashed with a very strong and overwhelming odor of cannabis. I picked up my suv from Hynes Auto Repair this week and I was extremely pleased with how good my Chevy Equinox looked! The paint job was gleaming with not a scratch! All the dents and dings were gone! The inside of the suv was very clean, detailed and no more cannabis smell! My auto insurance company had very high marks for this business and I am so happy I decided to have my repairs done at Hynes! I have used this place at least 3-4 times over the past 15 years for various accidents. Every time, my car comes back spot-on perfect, indeed better than when I brought it in. Never an issue with matching color or functionality of doors, etc. Everyone I have spoken to there has been the utmost in friendliness and professionalism, and the car is usually done right when they predict. Not to mention the free detailing. Wow! Hopefully won't have to use them anytime again soon, but if I need them, there's no question that I could possibly go anywhere else for bodywork! read more

Dont communicate with customers to let them know they will be closing after i communicated i was picking up my car . I took my Jeep Wrangler to Hynes Auto after badly scratching the front hood. They did a fantastic job and the hood looked as good as new. Single worst experience I've ever had with an auto shop and numerous industry professionals have told me what happened to me is unheard of. Not only did they let my car get towed off their lot without my permission, but I lost property in the vehicle in the process. In an email Hynes offered to cut me a check to make things right and when I showed up they looked at me like I had two heads and laid a guilt trip on me until I left with my jaw dropped. When I dropped my car initially the rental company was super behind, so the shop gave me a ride home. When I picked my car up, not only did it look as good as new, but it had been thoroughly detailed, inside and out! I've been using Hynes' services for about 4 years now. Last service was on 8/28 for tune up, replacing a knock sensor and LT front axel. My car was done in just two days and the mechanic figured out a way to replace the sensor that significantly cut down on the cost of labor. That being said, I have never been treated so rudely at any business in my life. I understood my car was pretty badly dinged up but the employee who provided the quote was literally looking at me like a piece of dirt on his shoe. Talked with Danny on the phone yesterday about a repair for my front exhaust pipe and catalytic converter. With his help I found out that this is still covered under warranty (something the dealership an hour before did not tell me). This place is great. I had to replace the fuel door on my car. Took it to the dealership on Saturday after buying and paying to have it painted. They were going to charge me $120 to install it, but luckily for me they didn't have someone with a rivet gun there that day. I emailed with Max from Hynes who got back to me immediately. Awful....Brought our pickup truck on April 3 for some minor body work. They said it should be ready by that Thursday. Come Thursday, they said it would probably be ready early the next week. Early the next week, they said perhaps late Wednesday or Thursday. Late Wednesday, they said Thursday. Thursday afternoon, they said if they didn't call by 5:00 to call first thing Friday. First thing Friday they said that they had clipped the wall while backing out of the garage on Thursday night. To really add insult to injury, they then said that the final cost was $200 more than the insurance estimate and, while they had contacted insurance and were told a check would be sent, they would like payment up front. Poor service. Had to bring the car back on two separate occasions after they've released it to me. The second time I had to return the car was because the windshield was installed wrong. Max once again assured me he would take care of me, and just now tells me he needs another day but won't provide a rental. He has been dishonest and argumentative and i'm now considering bringing this company to small claims for having engaged in unfair or deceptive acts or practices. Very upset right now but I will at least give them a two because it's one person that is managing my case over there. read more
