I've rented there a few times a year for about 5 years. I just rented this week and I rented a scooter with 13k miles. Make sure you video tape moped before you rent!! I was on the hook for a 1/2" scratch until I provided video proof it was there. The gentleman I returned moped to was rude and did not know how to handle himself professionally. The scooter barely had rear brakes and I filled up on my own. Did not complain or mention, units are older- it is what it is, I understood that. Not a difficult customer but customer service on the return side made a difference for me to shop elsewhere next time. Beware and go somewhere else, I miss Manny. read more

We rented a six person golf cart from these folks to get our party of Seven around Old Town Key West. They were very helpful and had our car ready from the reservations we had made prior to sailing. They also told us not to park in any areas with yellow or red curbs or they would tow it at a $300 dollar expense... Yours! As we drove around Old Town Key West we quickly found out that it's mostly yellow and red curbs!!! When you do find a spot you can park you have to find a meter and pay for parking! Everything in Key West is all paid for parking!!! However you can use that ticket to move around if you can find another parking spot! We did find a place closer to Margaritaville so we parked and walked around some of the places there and close to there. After that we pretty much resigned to take the cart back and just walk around places close to the cruise ship dock from the rental place. I talked to the guy I turned the cart into and he suggested that the next time rent scooters as you can park them all over the place!!! I'll keep that in mind. The best way to get around in Key West is a golf cart. You can rent them from here in increments of 3 or 8 hours. Do consider the price of parking throughout the island though, if you're trying to budget or factor in the total cost. Since we rented the golf cart all day, we decided instead of worrying about parking sporadically all throughout the day, that we'd just purchase a day long parking pass. Pretty much everywhere is 'pay at the meter', but the ticket is good throughout the city. The ticket also comes with a receipt stamp, just in case someone takes your ticket from the window of the golf cart. We rented it at the kiosk at cruise port very early in the day. They picked us up in a new Mercedes van and whisked us to the showroom rent floor. Nothing like I'd ever experienced on vacation anywhere and I've used and rented golf carts on several other islands before. Even the one in Boca Grand was sketchy compared to this one. They're golf cart are like the Mercedes model of the golf carts, if there is such a thing. You get my point, I wouldn't hesitate renting from them again. It was a great way to set the bar for our entire Key West experience. read more

We rented both jet skis and scooters from them at the Hyatt Centric. Well maintained equipment, efficient staff, easy in and out.

Our experience with Hydrothunder was abysmal to say the least. We payed $200 a day for a rickety, unsafe golf cart with a broken steering mechanism. We could not believe the quality of the cart and ultimately decided that it was unsafe to operate. To top it off, the customer service was terrible and when I brought my concerns to the management team, their response was: "that cart gets rented about 10,000 times a month, so that's what you get". Please save your money, and go somewhere else. read more

Thanks to the team for getting us set up with our scooters. They paid attention and made sure that we took video of the scooters prior for any damage so no one questioned anything when we returned them. Great way to see Key West! We planned to rent a 4-person electric golf cart as we walked off the cruise ship, as recommended by a friend. They have a booth right at the port. Unfortunately, no one was manning the booth when we got off the ship. We wandered aimlessly for about fifteen minutes, almost got suckered into buying a "City Map" for five bucks, but thankfully someone finally showed up. They reserved a cart for us (called the main store), and told us where the van would pick us up to take us to the shop. Very glad we did it this way, because when we got to the shop, we found out we got the last 4-person cart. The family behind us had to rent a 6-person (which was quite a bit more). We filled out some paperwork, paid for the cart ($90/ 3 hrs), got a quick tutorial, and we were on our way! We were able to drive ourselves to Hemmingway's House, Smathers Beach, the Southernmost Point, Truman House, Kermit's and a few other spots. Parking was not difficult, since the cart is small enough to fit in tight spots. We paid for metered parking once, which was pretty reasonable (I think only a buck or so for 45 min). Returning the car was simple, we just parked it in front and handed over the keys. They were pretty slammed with returns, so the only hiccup was that we asked for the van to shuttle us back to the ship, and after waiting 5 minutes, the employee still handed called the van. We told him to forget it, and we hoofed it back to the ship. It was actually pretty close, though we had to get directions. But overall, I recommend doing the golf cart thing- we covered way more ground than others who had to walk! read more

We had a blast all day riding around and seeing things we would have never if we were just walking. Parking it was super easy. It was just as cheap for 8 hours to rent this as it was for two scooters. We loved having it. Returning it was simple too and they would take you back to your hotel if you wanted. Came in to rent an electric car. The surly guy behind the counter stated that they had no cars they were all charging. Asked how long to wait and he said about 1 hr. Another guy in the shop came over and said that one was almost charged. 1 bar left. I asked how long to fully charge and the response was 30 mins. So I asked if we could make the arrangements and then we would pick it up later. The helpful gentlemen looked over to the guy behind the counter and he said no. We could not reserve the car. The attitude of this guy is enough reason not to do business in this place. Went online and reserved a car in 5 mins with a competitor. I'm in the service field, so I know the value of making sure the customer feels that I care and will help to the best of my abilities. unless this guy is the owner, I would fire him and get a more customer service person. Came to the keys on a cruise. A three hour rental with them was $107 total. I paid with Sam at a kiosk near the ship. I then went to the warehouse to pickup the Golf Cart in which they told me that I was too young to rent (I'm 20, and had already paid in full), and luckily my buddy was 22 so we still got the rental. The cart itself was fine, a bit jumpy here and there, but overall okay. My issue was the workers. The guy outside was nice, but didn't give you any time to talk without walking away. Sam was kind, she clearly wasn't knowledgeable seeing as she rented it to me even though I wasn't old enough, and the guy inside the warehouse should be retrained in customer service. All he wanted to do was argue. He said to me "you can't even rent a car at that age", in which I responded that I have rented a car before at 18 and that sites like Turo and Foxrentacar allow under 21 to rent, in which he replied in a snarky way "I've never heard of those". I didn't ask him for his opinion nor do I care about it. Fact is that he should've handled it differently and he didn't and that's why I'm reviewing it like this. read more

This is a good way to see Key West if you have limited time like we did. We were in for only 7 hours so needed to get around faster than walking. This worked great for us. Rented a four seat electric and went everywhere we wanted. We were able to drive all the way out to the bridge and all around town for drinks (definitely go to Fat Tuesday), Hemingway's house, the southernmost mile marker, etc. Parking can be at a premium but we managed. read more

We booked the jet ski through our hotel the Ocean Key Resort. It was a super fun experience! Jo-Jo was an amazing tour guide and while I was interested in learning about Key West while riding around on jet skis, my boyfriend was only interested in riding in jet skis. Jo-Jo accommodated us both and even gave us a bit of free time to swim, ride around, and do whatever we wanted. The tour was cool and informative, and the jet skis were really a blast. We rented a golf cart from Hydrothunder this past weekend as my 81 yr old mother was with us and she can not walk long distances. We did not realize that it would be so difficult for her to get on and off the golf cart with her past hip replacement. Also, the carts can not go anywhere a car cannot go, therefore it was not any less parking nor easier to find parking. We rented the cart for 24 hours at 180 dollars. After two hours we took the cart back, realizing it was not going to work out, and mom could not get on and off well. We explained this to the manager/owner at the front desk. I even asked if we could exchange it for a couple scooters, which were cheaper, and he would not give us the time of day. He would not even refund us a partial amount and said all cancellations had to be ahead of time. There is no way we could have known my mom would have difficulty getting on the cart. The shuttle lady told us they were sold out for the weekend, which means he no doubt re rented out the cart. I would not use this company again. They are rude and thoughtless. read more

AVOID!! I came here because I needed a mobility scooter, and I got what I needed... hence the one stars otherwise if I could it would be zero. I paid more for this scooter that I NEEDED than you would for any form of transportation in key west. We walked in without booking prior, and the guy gave me what I needed, but he was incredibly unfriendly. I had another guy show me around the scooter and told me he doesn't know how long the battery lasts so don't go too far or too long without charging. Thanks for the help (insert sarcasm). I had a few problems where the scooter would tell me it was charged and then all of the sudden it would completely die out. The third time I had this problem was the day I was returning my scooter and their solution was for them to pick it up and give me a ride back to my hotel. The driver was beyond nice and my best experience of this company. When speaking to hydro thunder about my anger for the malfunction of my scooter they had no remorse, my problem wasn't theirs. I told the associate I spoke to I wanted to speak to someone who would make this problem right... did I ever hear from them? No. I would never recommend this company. It's far from your only option in key west unless you're looking for an unfriendly business who doesn't care about their customers. Hydro thunder never made their inventory malfunction right with me, and they have unfriendly customer service. Stay away !!! I did notice they had a large inventory of golf carts but they are over priced. Go somewhere that deserves your business and is happy to have it. read more

A friend suggested we rent scooters while visiting Key West. HydroThunder was right by the drop off point for NCL. Convenient! We wanted an electric cart, but all were being rented at the time. We ended up with a gas powered one and had an absolute blast! We were able to (legally) ride this on the road and hit a top speed of 26 MPH! We were given good directions and a map by the staff that got us started and hit the road! We were able to see everything we wanted and even escaped the rain (somewhat) since it was covered. It was $90 for 2 1/2 or 3 hours I think. We loved it! read more

Asked for a 2 seater golf cart, quoted $130 by our hotel and once we got there we asked for the two seater and evidently they didn't have one available so they gave us a four seater and charged us $190. Never said a word about charging us extra because they didn't have a 2 seater available. we returned it after our 24 hour rental and asked for $50 in difference he refused to refund the difference even though they didn't have what we asked for and we were told by our concierge at Margaritaville that we have a special rate. A 4 seater for 2 seater rental of $130. It's really unfortunate when a manager of a business like this will lose a customer over $50. read more
