Another Update: I gave Hydrex a third and final chance and they are fired FOR GOOD! If you're a stickler for commitment and schedules DO NOT HIRE HYDREX! They were supposed to come on Friday between noon and 4:00 pm -- I called at 3:35 to see if they were on their way, and surprise! They were running an hour and a half behind schedule. Rescheduled to today (Saturday) between 8:00a - 10:00a. And A NO SHOW! I called the scheduling office who tried to contact technician and couldn't connect. Over 40 years ago when our tract neighborhood was new, Hydrex left a flyer about ridding the home of insects and pests. We signed up, and in all these years, they have been so responsive and on time for appointments, we have stayed on with them. Along the way, we have had favorite individuals who knew what our expectations were, and we asked for them until they were no longer with the company or had advanced. Currently, an exceedingly nice man by the name of Andy has been coming here for several years. From the outset, he was so gentlemanly, I asked if he was from the south or had he been in the military. It was the latter, and the last time he was here, he pointed out that the company had given him a military-designation patch. On so many levels, we're delighted to give kudos to this company who has given a job to a military vet who is always reliable, and takes the time to share some friendly conversation. We need no prompting to say anything but good things about Hydrex, and as long as this is our home, we'll count on that company...and Andy...to make this a place where our cats are comfortable and the grandkids can play without concern for bites or bugs. So they call to let me know they are coming out from 8-12 and I stay home to let in my back yard. Well it's 1140 I call them to see if they are coming and they said I'm scheduled from 12-4. I engaged Hydrex to address a rat problem. Paid them to hundreds of dollars to fix several places rats could enter my house, and then signed up for monthly maintenance. We have used this company for five years. I do not know why I did not cancel sooner. I have my service so that they confirm with me before they enter the property. I have a dog that bites. In the last six months the customer service has declined. They show up unannoucned or leave messages on my machine right before they come. The last straw was yesterday when they showed up and sprayed with no confirmed appointment. When I called to complain, Eric had no problem cancelling my service and rudely told me it was not his fault. I would not use this company if you need your service at certain times or expect their customer service agents to follow any special requests. I drove to their office on LB Blvd., showed John (the entomologist) a specimen, and he gave me the run-down -- what is was, how it gets into homes, how to treat it, and gave me a 2-page description from a bug encyclopedia to read up on. All for free!!! No hard-sell -- just expert, clear advice. I inquired about their services to get rid of the said insect problem, and the quote John gave was absolutely fair. I've actually used them over the last 5+ years for rodent problems, and it's just as consistent -- excellent service from friendly, trustworthy, and knowledgeable people, and all for a very decent price. I called Hydrex Pest Control in Long Beach for a routine flea treatment caused by a tenants dogs. I had called three companies but only Hydrex treated beyond a three foot perimeter of a property. I wanted the yards included which they did according to the property boundary guide lines allowed. Due then to a report of fleas by a tenant in the adjacent unit also, I asked Hydrex to include a treatment to this property as well. They did so but reported to me afterwards, that their inspection of this additional unit showed no signs of pests inside or to the exterior perimeter of this unit. The flea problem was resolved. Regardless, they offered a follow up treatment as a preventative measure to both units at no extra charge. I met with the technician, Michael Espegel, who arrived promptly, was courteous and thorough in the follow up treatment that included the sub area crawl spaces. A second report of pests from the same additional unit, had the technician, Michael going to the unit again and as before, no pests were found inside or around the exterior of the unit. He declined to service the unit because of these findings and no charge was made for his visit. He agreed to have some samples examined to give the tenant peace of mind. These were tested by their Operations Manager Brad Craig who confirmed no sign of any pest was present. The report of pests continued. In total, three companies inspected. Service tickets and reports matched those of Hydrex, no pests present, either to the inside or to the surrounding perimeter of the unit. Brad, offered to do a final test and full written report. He came to the unit himself, set traps throughout and picked them up later in the week. A detailed report followed confirming prior results and included photos of each interior room, the surround of the unit and even the roof along with close up photos of all the traps. There was no charge for his time, the service or the report. I can not attest to other branches of Hydrex Pest Control. But I can say, that in my many years of property management, whether Section 8, Rent Control or Privately owned properties, I have never received such support and good service from a company as a first time customer. Hydrex Pest Control treated me and their service for me as one would expect toward a long time repeat client. Landlords depend on reliable, honest vendors. I will not hesitate to call on Brad and team again. Thank you Michael, for your honesty, diplomacy, professionalism and prompt, effective service. We have used Hydrex for year round service and can't say enough about their professionalism, expertise, and overall service. Having a cat allergic to ant bites is what got us initially involved. Concerned about our pet safety, they assured us what they use would be safe. We have not had any any issues for years now. Over the years other issues like bees/ wasps and moths became problematic and were immediately treated and resolved during our regular visits with no added charges. Today we had them over as an apartment nearby cleared out and rats were seen within the piles. Although a few houses away, better to try to avoid a problem. They walked the entire perimeter of my home, identified possible problem or entry spots, looked for evidence they may have been here, set a VERY pet and child safe trap and told me how to close entry ways and make the house wires uncross able. He was friendly, knowledgeable and even playful with my dog, cat and tortoises. No I would never use or recommend Hydrex Long Beach. Hydrex in Long Beach low fees weren't low at all. we still had bugs. Owner, John makes no promises about getting rid of the bugs because he makes more money coming back again and again.... He nickled and dimed us and we kept paying....makes no difference if John is a "doctor of bugs" or not - as an exterminator, your job is to get rid of the bugs. That's what you do. Another local company explained why Hydrex has so many complaints. They make money on the repeat service visits, not the one time visits. If they got the job done right the first time, they don't get to sell you on their monthly service contract. What a rip off. Our neighbors had Hydrex quote for termite services and not only did John bill them for $400 of services he didn't provide he waited until the summer when they leave to go back to their country for a few months and actually SUED in small claims court. They didn't find out until they returned from their country and were blown away. So as if these bad experiences aren't bad enough, if you do use them, be very careful... John will sue you for things you didn't even know you owe - and don't care if they didn't do the work. John - because you have sued people in our own community we put you on the "do not use" vendor list in our community and will share our bad experience with anyone who mentions your name. Read and learn from all these experiences you given to customers and make some changes. Response to BRAD - Glad to see you read these experiences. Hopefully things will change. Sorry, but your comment that Hydrex doesn't sue is incorrect - sadly, we saw the small claims papers from John/Hydrex - it is true. The customer he sued showed us all. Really need to work on customer service. Dispatcher called and left message on my voicemail to schedule service and sent out technician while I was on vacation and billed me for it! My service is for every other month, but they always wait until the last day of the month to call and send someone out with little to no advance notice. I called to reschedule service and the operator cut me off before I can finish talking and put me on hold! Great customer service and scheduling...I cancelled my service. Customer service very poor. Have used them for several years. Required reminder calls for regular scheduled Saturday service as they did not adhere to calendar. Also have a pet that needs to be indoors for application. Complained repeatedly about lack of reminder calls and technician just showing up. Then cane home recently to find they had performed service and my dog sleeping inside proceeded outside after hearing technician leave. They could have poisoned the animal. No remorse or apology by office when I cancelled service the following Monday. Then they had nerve to send the bill!! read more
