Went to Hy-Vee to pick up some items and decided to try their Wednesday dinner special. Chicken and noodles with mash potato for $5. The food itself was very good, but I am not thrilled with the service. The guy helping the groups before us piled multiple scoops of mash potatoes and chicken and noodles to fill four large plates. He then proceeded to help a person who cut in front of us and then walked away like we won't there. Another employee came over to help us after a while and proceeded to serve us 1/2 the portion of the other guy. While the amount she gave us was plenty for my kiddo, I didn't care for the inconsistency. If you are going to give more, do it for all or at least do it when no one is looking. Highly recommend giving the food a try, but make sure you get the gentleman giving out super portions. read more

This is the closest grocery store to my house so it's usually the default option for shopping, but this may change as some of the "Cons" listed below are starting to grate on me. Read on: Pros: Big store. Wide selection. Most major brands stocked. They have Burbach's milk, the best milk in existence. Their employees are almost universally friendly, cheerful, and helpful, which is the main reason I keep coming back. Their home grocery delivery has been pretty darn good on the occasions we've used it, but it costs $10 per service for non-members. Cons: They are expensive and their price structure straight-up SUCKS. For example: a large container of Simply Orange costs twice as much as two medium containers of Simply Orange despite having only 50% more juice altogether. In what universe does this make sense? You have to watch their prices like a hawk to make sure you aren't getting bilked, and this gets tiresome. Their meat counter is ok, but not great (Fareway meat market is better). Whoever runs the supply chain for their fresh produce section should be taken out to the back lot and beaten; I know we're a long way from California, but I can't count how many times I've seen less-than-fresh "fresh" produce. Their strawberries, in particular, are often already succumbing to mold in the package WHILE STILL IN THE STORE. Oh yeah. I don't come to a grocery store to buy clothes or cute bath accessories; ditch the overpriced bath and apparel departments, guys. read more

For my schools homecoming dance we decided that my boyfriend and I wanted to go get a corsage and boutonniere and we have previously gotten them from Hy-Vee before with red roses and they turned out beautiful. So we decided to come back, the boutonniere was beautiful turned out amazing but one of the roses once you picked it up from the container looks like it was going to fall off. The corsage when we picked it up a very very small part of the petal was already dead if you look close but over all it was Beautiful! This Hy-Vee is close to home , so its the one we usually go to. We like the MarketPlace Grill area where we sometimes got for breakfast. Long time ago it was dirt cheap but with price inflations it has also gone up. Cost just about the same as a sit down restaurant but it defiantly does have a more of a " home cooked vibe" , you can tell they have regulars as there is usually a table full of the same people every weekend sitting and enjoying coffee. I also do enjoy the fact that a Starbucks is inside and they let you scan the APP for drinks. One thing I noticed about many Hyvee's so I am sure its a corporate thing, they are weird about the sales. I HATE how they keep changing it. You use to be able to have them scan your gas card and you would get the discount, now its coupons for some things,, gas cards for others and then "sale prices" . it gets confusing. Not everyone gets coupons in the mail so your out of luck. Also when they have sales the stock is so limited, and I witnessed an older couple having a fit because everything that they wanted with their coupons were sold out,, sometimes they restock,, sometimes they don't . I have also noticed a price change after a sale on some items. I usually check to see what the regular price is before I grab something on "sale" ,, go back for the same item a week later and the price has gone up from the regular price. The employees are almost always helpful and friendly , and seem to like their jobs, so that is a plus. read more

This is a huge and very busy store. They offer just about every product and service you could expect at a grocery store. This location is about 200% the size of the average suburban grocery store, but has about 120% the selection of brands. Their shelves and coolers tend to be stocked with rows and rows of a single product, rather than offering limited quantities of a wider variety of products. I mostly visit this store to eat lunch at the deli/salad bar. Seating is abundant. Selection and freshness are good. The Chinese and Italian options are passable, but not as good as at local restaurants or other Hy-Vee stores. The staff are very friendly, and it didn't take them long to begin recognizing me. The dining area is the cleanest you'll find anywhere (they employ some very special folks who scrub and scrub and scrub those tables). read more

Store is good but online ordering/pickup is pathetic. I have no idea what their guidelines are for substitutions or choosing not to substitute but it makes no sense. Example...giving me a whole frozen apple pie when I ordered a box of individual ones that you find by the snack cakes. And it's not just this location but on Saturdays during football season when a lot of people are buying alcohol how about not putting underage kids on all the registers. I went to this Hy Vee for lunch today and it was a very nice experience. Right when you walk in you see their HUGE produce department, which is one of the biggest I've ever seen in a company-chain type grocery store. I had some Chinese food with a co-worker and it was great. For some reason, Hy-Vee Chinese food is awesome; and at a good price. Meat department employees work their tail off. They are understaffed so this has nothing to do with them. Good guys working hard. The cuts of steak are just brutal. Been going here for the past 2 years and tonight was the last time. Spent $70+ on steaks and they were just awful. The front of store management doesn't back their cashiers. Many a time I've been in while they are swamped. Cashiers do their best to get customers thru. Seeing upper management chat while hourly employees try their best to tread water. Just popped in for a 4th of July lunch with my son... Had the ribs, mac-n-cheese, baked beans, & cornbread muffin. First off...Someone needs to can the guy cooking these ribs. They are str8-up awful. Smoking ribs is NOT his cup of tea. It's like chewing shoe-leather & they are way over done. Cooking Ribs is an art. Eating them should be a pleasure to the senses... this was my biggest disappointment. The Mac-n-cheese was dry, and it looks(and tastes) like it was made yesterday & dried out under a heat lamp, then set back out again. The baked beans tasted like eating a mouth full of ketchup. BUT... the highlight of my meal was the cornbread muffins. Whoever is baking in this place needs to be promoted!... those things are the saving grace of this establishment. Tender, made moist & literally perfect. The place was a bit messy on the 4th of July, but that wasn't a big deal to me. The food here...Especially the BBQ... needs serious work. Disappointed at the Stoneybrook location. They were supposed to deliver flowers for a wedding between 1-2. I called them at 1:50 asking where they were and someone asked if they could call me back after they check what the status was. After 2 pm they called back and said it was just leaving and on its way. We ended up missing a boutonnière and most of them had flowers totally falling apart. Was not pleased at all, thanks to them failing on many issues; we were late doing wedding photos and the some in the party didn't have flowers or they didn't look right because they were falling apart. read more

This is a review for the Hy-Vee on Stony Brook in general, and the Market Grille in particular. First, the store: I've never had a bad experience with any employee. Ever. They are always respectful and helpful - whether it's the grill, deli, Chinese counter, stockers, or cashiers, etc. I would advise readers to take some of the 1-star reviews with a grain (or two) of salt. I've lived from Alaska to Florida, and several states in-between. I've shopped at Hy-Vee, Walmarché, Fred Meyer, Super Target, Safeway/Carr's, Albertson's, Kroger, Publix, Food Lion, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and more. Hy-Vee and Publix are up there in the store cleanliness, selection, and courtesy departments, even if their prices are a little bit higher (and I'm willing to pay more for a nicer, cleaner, better-stocked, and friendlier store). Second, the Market Grille (Stony Brook location): This was our first time eating here; we periodically get Chinese takeout, but have never done the grill before. It was a good experience. The spousal unit had the "Grown-up Grilled Cheese" (Colby Jack, Cheddar, American, Avocado, Tomato, and Bacon) ($8.99), with fries and a drink. I had the "Spicy Southwest Burger" (1/2 lb beef, bacon, Pepperjack cheese, fried onion straws, fresh diced jalapeño, and Sriracha mayo) ($11.99) with fries and drink. Both meals were very good, and very filling. I thought the fries were good; the other half thought they were very good. But we both really enjoyed the quantity and quality of our meals. Week after week I shop here for a large portion of my family's groceries...and they never disappoint. The produce is fresh, with GREAT selection, the guys in the meat department are a riot, and the meat is better than some of the specialty stores around town. If they don't have what you want in the case, chances are they'll be able to cut some for you right then and there. Checkout is always interesting, as they have a very eclectic staff, but they are consistently pleasant, helpful, and smiling...just like the ads say. I'm always pleased when I leave, and with the "Fuel Saver" card that they offer, I save on my gas almost every week. (sometimes as much as $.40 a gallon!) read more

Looking for the largest beer selection in Nebraska? You found it. Stony Brook's wine & spirits department is ridiculous. There are beers from everywhere and in all styles. Not to mention a fantastic selection of bourbon, scotch, and hard liquors. I love when they have their special edition bottles specifically made for this shop. They have a massive selection of beers. I'm talking tons of sampler packs, six packs, bombers, mix and match, kegs, everything. Their craft beer selection has hundreds of different options including almost every Nebraska brewery. They even get amounts of special edition bottlings that will be found nowhere else in Omaha. And you can't forget the walk-in beer cooler with the fantastic selection of crappy beer! Hamm's, Schlitz, Old Style, Milwaukee's Best, and all your dad's other favorites! Bourbon and scotch selection is amazing. Scotches from all regions and from tons of different distillers. Bourbons that are tough to find and if you can't find it they can probably order it. I don't drink too much of the other hard alcohol but they have a ton of vodkas and tequilas here. I get lost in here for hours trying to choose and so should you! read more

I used to be a consistent Hy Vee shopper, but too many bad experiences have had me avoiding their stores lately. I have been charged twice for items several times, and I recently bought one garlic bulb that cost 2.25. After I looked at my receipt, I found that the bulb had been way over-charged. It should have been .35. Since almost every shopping experience resulted in me having to go back to the store to receive a refund for an over charge or duplicate charge, I have been wary about shopping there. The prices at HyVee are too high for me to give them extra money on a regular basis. Bahhh! read more

The "Wine and Spirits" section of this Hy-Vee needs an entry of its own, since it has to be one of the finest stores in Omaha in terms of beer selections. KJ, the manager of the department, is one of the most knowledgeable brewmeisters in the city, and he will bring in beers no one else can dream of. Their cooled single bottle beer display rivals none, and their make it yourself six pack rivals none in the Omaha Metro area. If you can't find it here, you can't find it anywhere else. We have enjoyed the quick service and food at HYVee for many years our Sunday after church breakfasts have become tradition with our grandchildren Unfortunately our experience with the full service marketplace change was terrible We were told we had to order from the bartender (on Sunday morning for faster service) I had to tell the bartender that indeed there is green Tea He initially argued that they don't have green tea . It took a long time to get drinks , place the food order and then have the food delivered This is the first ever review for me. I can't understand why poor service in the name of upscaling is viewed by HyVee management as a positive. I hope that someone pays attention. I went into the store to buy some specialty items. Most were out of stock. I was a delivery customer at $100 per week every week for almost 4 years. This is the first time I have entered the store, I refuse to pay their $100 membership fee for the privilege of buying their overpriced items. I spoke with a manager named "Matt". He was full of excuses as to why the items were out of stock. He had a surly attitude in general. He was apparently displeased with my comments ( I was not rude, simply disappointed) because he walked away from me as I was speaking. No one in the Deli to help me, several employees walked by me as I was struggling to reach an item. A "smile in every aisle"....hardly. Terrible customer service, horrid management.
