I remember back in the day this was a crappy Chinese restaurant because I use to work there. Paid ~$20 for salmon & grits and steak melt. I spent 80c extra for the cheese grits because why not? My wife loves cheese and I like fat. The salmon was your standard filet size but the grits were a healthy portion. The salmon was flavorful and simple. I choose wheat bread to be slightly healthier except it was buttered heavily. That's fine. I liked it. My wife's steak melt came on a Texas toast instead of a hoagie roll. The meat was well seasoned and the bread buttered. The hash browns were golden brown at the top but they kind of just reminded me of Waffle Houses' hash browns. I don't think you can customize the hash like Waffle House. The prices were decent. It's a slightly more expensive Waffle House with better grits and I like the WH. Support local. Would I come here again? Maybe. It's kind of a drive for me and I just happened to be in the area. If I lived close, I would try to come here instead of Waffle House. read more

We had at least 20 people, and that's not easy to handle for some establishments so I give them the credit because they were able to see us. I've been here about 4 times already, that's how much I really enjoyed myself. The breakfast here is wonderful, the service is pretty good. I think I'll be sticking to the buttermilk breakfast which is your choice of egg cooked your way, sausage pattie or bacon, two pieces may I add. Three buttermilk pancakes or a waffle. I always order a pecan waffle for a few cents more. This is a wonderful value. My daughter enjoys the steak bowl which is grits with a nice juicy piece of steak on top. When I could finally get someone on the phone I was told to call door dash even though we picked up the food. This was my first and last time I will ever order from here. We often eat here but on this mornings visit it started out less than stellar. Once I arrived meeting a friend (we always meet for breakfast). He had already started and had his drink so when our waitress came over I started with a "Good Morning". She seems to decline. And just asked me what I was having so I said good morning again!! This time asking her is there a problem? I guess my asking was a bit much. So she went to have another waitress care for us. This seem to upset her because I said good morning and expected the same in return. When another waitress came over to take my order (who was super nice). I mentioned about the other one not saying good morning. She said well she's only 18 that's no excuse. So for the next 45+ minutes, my friend and I discussed our experience with a less than customer focused waitress. We eat there often and never really had an issue with any waitress so for this to happen was a bit strange. However, moving forward, I'm gonna question whether or not we eat at Huskers I can't afford to leave my money where it's not appreciated. It's sad because we have so few places that we enjoy eating breakfast and this was one of them. Not sure moving forward. What's wrong with young people. I was young but my parent always taught me how to treat others, clearly this young person needs a refresher course. read more

Arrived around 11:30 on a Sunday but we expected that there would be a wait. There were people waiting to be seated but no employees were managing the line. After an employee just happened to be walking by she told me that they have two hostesses on duty. Apparently one was taking names. But...a hostess is supposed to be out front. We were standing close to a table of six who mentioned they had been waiting an hour for their food. Needless to say we left. And at least two more parties walked out the door too. So 20 minutes of waiting for nothing. Really solid breakfast place in Stone Mountain. Stopped here for to go after running around Stone Mountain park and ordering on line. Really wanted a breakfast biscuit but also wanted another breakfast biscuit. Since that seemed a bit glutenous, I opted for a bacon egg and cheese biscuit and a premium bowl with eggs, ham, spinach, and hashbrowns. What? It made sense at the time. Taking a star off because the bowl wasn't anything special and was very greasy. Not to say it wasn't good, but it wasn't great and they forgot my toast, so that even if it's only a half star deduction, it's enough to round down. The biscuit was light and flakey and made a great breakfast sandwich. I'm a bit disappointed I didn't get 2 instead of the bowl. Anyway, if you're looking to be fat, then be like me and come here and order 2 breakfasts. You won't regret it until after you're done and then you'll regret it. These type of local diner joints can be hit or miss. This was a hit for me and my family. Kayla, our server, made the experience grand!!! She was so friendly and attentive. She was outstanding!! The food was affordable. And it was good. The whiting and grits were flavorful. My husband enjoyed his buttermilk breakfast (French toast, yellow grits and eggs). My one concern were the covid practices. They wipe the tables between diners, but didn't look or smell like they used any disinfectant, etc. The chairs were not wiped in between diners. The line cooks had their masks on their chins. These are things I began to notice as we were seated and could see into the kitchen area behind the register. We stayed and ate. We had a long hike and this was the closest establishment to Stone Mountain Park. We were seated quickly. The noise level was fine. This is not a 5 star steakhouse that requires sport coats kind of place. It's what I would call a hole-in-the-wall kind of place that happens to serve pretty good breakfast. I ordered two build your own bowls! The premium salmon and the recommended white grits and the chicken with cheese grits! Both bowls were what I'd expect!! Hearty, filling, and full of flavor! The chicken was perfect! Not dry, not undercooked and full of seasoning. The salmon as well! I do highly recommend the cheese grits over the white but that's only because I love cheese! The jalapeño with cheese grits was a match made in heaven. I also have to mention the the website ordering was a huge mess. Calling in was no help since no one picked up. When we walked in Huskers was clean and the health rating is an A. It was a crowded Sunday morning, but our party of two was seated immediately. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. My husband wanted waffles. I just wanted to try a new place. It was around 10 am. Thanks to Yelp, I came across Huskers Cafe. Interesting since we go to Metro Cafe after hiking at Stone Mountain a few times. Maybe we should go to Huskers Cafe for breakfast food instead? Huskers Cafe is located in the Walmart plaza. There's a lot of businesses but are gone unnoticed. If you go to the plaza that is on the way left front side of Walmart, there is a NCG movie theater, Huskers Cafe is located on that side and closer to the theater. Honestly, you wouldn't know it's a restaurant unless you just know. It's kept on the downlow. I felt I read enough positive reviews to come by. It isn't packed. We were welcome and greeted right away. We could sit anywhere we want. Husband got his usual coffee and I got just water. Our drinks came out. Hubby loves his coffee but he felt something was off. Lord behold. There were lemon seeds inside the coffee. This completely turned us off. We almost walked out. However, our food came and brought to us by the cook. The waitress wasn't attentive and we had to get her to show her the lemon seeds that were "stuck" to the bottom. Pic included. She came back with another cup of coffee. Hubby ordered the Buttermilk Breakfast and got the pecan waffle, scramble eggs, cheese grits, and bacon. I got the "Before & After" with fried chicken, scramble eggs, cheese grits, and Texas toast. The food is delicious!!!! It was so much food I wasn't able to finish. Hubby finished it for me. The fried chicken is soooo good. It is so moist and juicy. It has inspired me to make it in the future. Gosh, glad we got to taste the yummy food. The waitress came with our bill and said she took off the coffee. I'm honestly sad to leave this review but I can't even explain how disgusted I was with this dish. This experience was not my first time at Huskers Cafe but it will definitely be my last. This time my boyfriend and I took our food to go and when I got home to open the container I was so upset. I chose to order the steak and grits after seeing the picture from the website (included in my review). The steak that was included with my meal was so dry, tough and chewy i am honestly shocked that anyone would willingly give it to a customer. I expected some type of sauce or gravy and more tender beef,as depicted in the picture but it looked as if someone messed up the meat from a patty melt and then dumped it on my grits. The grits and cheese eggs were the ONLY thing that saved my meal and only reason my review is one star.( other than the fact the one star is the lowest you can give) because it should be a 0.5. ***i want to say, I understand this place is not a five star restaurant but an around the way type of place but I feel as though the picture is completely misleading, and that's why I even ordered the meal. I read the reviews and everyone made it seam like the food was all THAT. It wasn't. The waitress/greeter was nice but the food was just ok. I didn't have to add much salt to the grits but generally speaking the food wasn't anything I would make a special trip to have. The restaurant was clean and the cook looked clean so that's always a plus. The portions were normal sized, not generous as some of the reviewers stated.
