. We were looking for a black-owned restaurant for breakfast and Huskers kept coming up. I ordered the southwest omelette with toast and side of cheese grits. Everything came out piping hot and fresh. My guy ordered a ham and cheese omelette with a biscuit and cheese grits. His ham was way overcooked, almost burnt, so he asked for it to be recooked. Huskers Cafe is a hidden gem in Stone Mountain at 1825 Rockbridge Road SW. Huskers opened in 2016, and has consistently served true southern food. My favorites are fish and grits (white or yellow), omelettes with your choice of ingredients, pecan waffles and real southern biscuits. I was born in Georgia and we know how true Southern food should taste. We often order and share because it's enough to share. The service has always been courteous and timely. The restaurant has an open seat policy. I have not had lunch here because breakfast is my favorite meal. I would highly recommend given this place a try. read more

Yesterday, 4/25/24, I called in an order, but we had a little issue with the options for the number of pancakes and bacon slices since they had changed their policy on a few things. However, when I arrived they were so accommodating and helped me find a solution. The chef, Mr. Troy, hooked me up. My food was piping hot, and he cooked my eggs and pancakes to perfection. I requested hard fried egg (i hate when it's still runny) and dark pancakes. He did not disappoint. Everyone was so kind and pleasant. Nice service-- prompt, friendly Food-- solid & straightforward Ambiance-- nothing fancy, folks there seemed to be there to enjoy their meal Being in the South, I appreciate fish & grits done right. Fish was well seasoned, not overly done, had a good cornmeal crisp to it. Grits were fine. Biscuit was moist & buttery without needing extra butter. Eggs done just right, neither dry nor runny. Bacon cooked to a good crisp, not greasy & neither too hard nor too soft. Waffle was good. *We learned afterwards that you can request to add pecans to the waffles for an extra charge. My wife and I had breakfast here the first day we arrived at Stone Mountain Campground. We ended up having breakfast there three days in a row and the food is excellent cooked consistent and great service. This place is a solid 4.5 stars for me so I suppose I shall round up. It's a causal cafe where you seat yourself. My pick of the steak melt was really good. The hubs had the salmon & grits. Though the description for the steak melt says it's on a hoagie roll, it was made on Texas toast -- I was just a tad disappointed. The sandwich was flavorful though and well buttered. The steak pieces were thin and oh so tasty! The hash browns were delicious and crispy on the top. I thoroughly enjoyed how crispy it was! The salmon sat upon a bed of cheese grits (you can choose the type you want). There was a good portion of grits that were pretty much the color of cheese. You know. That orangey color. The salmon was a decent size and flavorful. The slices of wheat bread that came with this were even buttered. Pretty much every part of this dish was spruced up with delicious butter. The prices were pretty decent with pretty quick service. It reminds me of a homely sort of Waffle House with more of a Southern twist to the food. read more

Low key breakfast spot with awesome grits, if you don't like grits there are still items on the menu to enjoy. The dining area is very no frills with seat yourself open seating. The menu is right there in the table and the waitstaff are pretty quick to approach and take your order. This is not the place for instagram posts or fancy brunch. I had their chicken and waffle for my first time there and had the sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit the 2nd trip there. The chicken and waffle were great! The chicken was breaded, seasoned, and cooked to perfection and with the waffle and syrup was a perfect pairing! Their syrup comes out in preheated bottles which is a nice touch. Their syrup isn't as sweet as I am accustomed to so keep that in mind. The sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit was amazing. Biscuit is moist and buttery but held its own on the sandwich. read more

Now, the service was good, the speed of order-to-table was pleasing and the food was adequate. While I'm not a food snob, I was underwhelmed. Huskers has pretty consistent service and quality. I order the veggie omelet with ham, spinach, onion and cheese and its always good. The coffee is bare-able but I do wish they had the vanilla creamer pods. The wait was 20 minutes the very first time we visited but then all the other times were 1-5 minutes. There are busy times here so its best to go super early or somewhat late morning. The seating are from small table to high tops and then a community table. I would say this is a redefined waffle house. read more
