I have been to both locations. The downtown location has more comfortable seating. The donuts are a novelty and are covered in things like Captain Crunch, Oreos, Lucky Charms , even bacon! The downtown location is very hip. The flavor of the doughnuts are ok, you are paying for the atmosphere. This is another fairly new independent place that I hope sticks around. The donuts are fairly good (although they are not as good as St. George's or the "donuts" at Legacy) and it's nice having a place like this downtown. I also appreciate that they're trying the 24 hour thing in downtown Springfield. That's admirable. That said, their marketing has shot well past the line between cool/cute/uniqueness and cloyingly obnoxious. I don't know if it's elaborate ironic performance art or if they're aching to be of Food Network, or if they're just more tolerable when stoned, but man. I mean, try looking at their facebook page sober. The tired cliche name, the cutesy/overly-saccharine and -colorful donuts... The ambulance. Just look at it. It wasn't enough that they're apparently using a vehicle more accustomed to transporting the dead, dying, and infirm to deliver donuts. Oh, no. They painted the darn thing with a coating (glaze, if you will) of sheer ridiculousness. I want to start my review by saying that the donuts here are not bad at all. They're fine, and tasty to boot. The taste of the donuts isn't completely why I've rated it as I have, but it is to some extent. If you love donuts, you will like this place just fine. At a little over a dollar a donut, if you're in need of a sugary pastry, you'll find something you like here and not for a lot of money. When we stopped in during the mid-afternoon, a handful of people were inside eating their donuts, and there was no line, which did pleasantly surprise me considering Hurt's very good reputation for miles around. Here's the thing though - these donuts, while fine donuts, are nothing special at all. The thing that people love about these donuts, I think, is the wild combinations of toppings and flavors that they come in. It's gimmicky. Many of them, someone could easily make at home if they wanted. The donut bases are nothing new, and a lot of the toppings are stuff one could buy at the grocery store - a lot of varieties, for example, were covered in cereals like fruit loops and chocolate rice cereal. So that's my review. This place is definitely overhyped, and I would not drive for 45 minutes solely to get a box of them like I've known some people to do, but they're still fine donuts. If I had a sweet craving and were in town, I would consider stopping in again, because while this place isn't necessarily a good gourmet donut shop, it's still a great typical donut shop. read more

Hurts donuts came highly recommended by many of my Springfield friends so when we came back to visit our college friends we decided to check it out. We got a dozen donuts and the baconator of course. Our bacon obsessed friend liked it but I was a bigger fan of the blueberry streusel...which doesn't sound like a donut but it's soft and crumbles into a delightful light powder sugary melt in your mouth blueberry heaven in your mouth. I came in for a 2 donuts and a drink and I had ate them and drank ed my monster and when i got to my second donut it was but but old so i just went to watch my movie at the movie theaters and when i got through I had went to hurts donuts and went to buy another one and i didn't want to be a a-hole and be like the donuts was old and disgusting but i just casually said it was old and the guy was like i can charge you just for the drink because i came back to buy another drink and a donut and i was like i can pay for it i just wanted to let you know but he insisted that i just get charged for the drink so i just but $3 in the tip thing and went about my day. Great varieties& opened 24 hours! Walked around downtown Springfield and smell a great smell of donuts!!! The yeast dough was a little bit too heavy for my taste! I'll admit. I haven't been in to Hurt's yet. Instead, I have really really really awesome co-workers who have both brought me tasty morsels of donut-y goodness from Hurt's. Because I haven't been there to pay for donuts--what's better than donuts within walking distance from my work but FREE donuts purchase by my co-workers cuz they think I'm coo'--I can't attest to the actual prices, but my boss said that they were a bit pricey (some were around $2 a donut allegedly). I had an apple fritter and a chocolate long john with peanuts (spanish peanuts, I do declare), and they were both really good. I think they'd be even better if I spent my own hard-earned money and stopped on by earlier in the morning when the selection was more bountiful (that's the other comment from co-workers: Hurt's was low on selection by the time they stopped by, one person around noon, and the other around 8:45am). Do not expect basic glazed and blueberry cake donuts when you come here, although their sour cream donut is AMAZING. They put anything and everything that is sweet on a donut and pair it with a complementing frosting. Cereal, cookies, marshmallows, candy, whatever. They have great hours. Happened upon this place while exploring Springfield on a weekend getaway with the family. We got a half dozen donuts so we could try several different types. All of them were crispy on the outside, moist on the inside... just the way a good doughnut should be! Our favorite was the blueberry streusel, followed by the peanut butter cup chocolate and salted caramel chocolate. The Andes mint was almost too sweet, but still very tasty. The cheesecake topping took away from the red velvet donut, so I would get it without next time (they had red velvet donuts with and without the topping!) My son loved the Cookie Monster donut, which was his favorite! We can't wait to come back for more! read more

Downtown Springfield is really a fun place these days. Lots of coffee shops, night spots, restaurants, and this really cool donut shop. Yes, that's what I said, a really cool donut shop. Now, I know another reviewer claimed to be a donut aficionado, and by that meant that they were searching for a Dunkin Donuts. That's sort of like claiming to really be in to steak and searching for a Wendy's. I'm no donut aficionado, but this place is cool and here is why: Location: right down town. Just off the square in an old building. cool. Menu: Donuts are donuts, right? Nope. These have cereal, candy, bacon, and some normal toppings too. Vibe: Busy but comfortable. The reaction of some to Hurts Donuts is painfully predictable. If its a downtown place that attracts hipsters then it must be terrible, right? Well, feel free to stick to your Krispy Kreme or Dunkin that way people who like real food don't have to worry about not getting to the store in time to secure a certain flavor. All sorta-kidding-but-not-really aside, Hurts Donuts makes some great fresh donuts. There are typical flavors but also some pretty unique ones. I am reminded heavily of Voodoo Donuts in Portland (sans innuendo) and would readily say Hurts is on par with that store. I have yet to eat any stale donuts and they've all been cooked to perfection with quality toppings. If the price bothers you then you may be eating donuts too much. read more

The biggest knock with Hurts, for me, is their donuts being stale most of the time because the store is open 24/7. I find the over decorated types (candy bar) a little too much to handle richness wise, but their classic sprinkle, glazed and cinnamon Jèsus are solid. The prices are also a little on the high side. Not looking to take out a second mortgage to purchase a dozen. I would only recommend if it's late at night and this is your only option. I also don't like the option where the worker picks the donuts for your dozen & it's cheaper. Just make all dozens cheaper. read more

I came in late on Monday morning to grab a dozen donuts for the folks in my office. Unlike in the past when I came in, the girl working the counter was super friendly and nice. I ordered a 'Hurts dozen' to save myself the trouble of trying to pick out 12 types of donuts, and she quickly created a nice mixture of donuts. The donuts were delicious, the service was great and the place looked remarkably clean compared to some of my past visits. I also became the most popular person in the office that day!
