Well, Hupei's is not what it used to be but many restaurants are not. On this visit the food was bland and cold for the most part. Such a shame because they used to be one of my frequented restaurants. The recipes have even changed maybe in an effort to reduce cost. One thing that is still great in my opinion are the crab rangons especially when they are fresh and hot. Actually this is my favorite place to get Asian food. Been going there for years. I have not been disappointed with the food or the service at all, even when I get the take out, all food is there. Our favorite though is the hot n sour soup. OMG hubby and I think it is the best ever! Decent pricing, plenty of food. Worth trying if you have not. read more

When the family wants all you can eat Chinese food this is where you end up. Just a typical Chinese buffet with your typical foods such as beef and broccoli, sweet & sour chicken, egg rolls, noodles, fried rice and soups. They did have some sushi which was surprisingly really good but everything else was just average at best. The quality matched the price and the was staff helpful. The buffet isn't great, the place is dark and dark places don't seem clean. I've only been here 2 times and wasn't impressed.

The actual phone number to Hupei in Longview, Tx North is: (903)753-3020. I'm not sure why the number on yelp is incorrect, but a quick Google search solved the problem. We called and ordered take out and the food was ready in 15 minutes. The restaurant is within walking distance of the Motel 6 and was convenient. The interior was very clean and the staff were so friendly! Our meals were in very, very large portions. We ordered the spring rolls (forgot to take a picture), the sweet and sour chicken (pictured), and the vegetable lo mien (pictured). The price was very reasonable for the amount of food we got, but the quality was okay. It's great quick take-out but the food wasn't anything to write home about. read more

I was a bit shocked to see the reviews so low on here. I've been going to this restaurant for most of my life. I went with my parents when I was a child back when it was in the shopping center across the street. The owner, Mr. Hupei has always been there and has been very kind over the years. I think recently his kids are running the restaurant more. We've always enjoyed the food here and the prices are reasonable. The variety of food is great and the staff have always been helpful. I usually load up on all the different types of chicken, pickup a few egg rolls, and go back for dessert afterward for the jello. Another big draw to this place is how quickly they can seat large groups. I do think the food is more on the bland side, however that is probably unavoidable since buffets have to accommodate the lowest common denominator. However I think it still has plenty of flavor. I would definitely recommend this place. read more

Went here for an afternoon lunch before I started my day of shopping. Was after lunch so no crowds. This is definitely an underrated and hidden gem of a place. The food is good and staff is generally pleasant and nice. When I was there yesterday I did mention to the waitress that there's a fly in a pudding dish and they promptly removed it from the buffet. Nasty to see, I know but I know it unfortunately happens in the restaurant industry. My wife, mother-in-law and sister-in-law have eaten here several times over the past few months and have been trying to get me to go try it. I finally got the chance to go and loved it. I'm not usually a big Chinese food eater and surprised that many of the reviews say the food is bland. I didn't personally find this to be so. The only problem I had was there is so much to choose from I wasn't able to try it all!!! They had several kinds of sushi but I didn't get a chance to try it this time. There's 3 or 4 large buffet lines full of all kind of good looking food. Several spicy offerings the day I went. Also several kinds of desserts and soft serve ice cream. We were warmly greeted when we stepped inside. Many places I go into now seem like they could care less if you come into their business or not. We were well taken care of with the waitress keeping a very good check on us and bringing us drink refills usually before we even had to ask. I tried several things (I can't remember what all I had) but it was all very good I thought. Everything was either hot or nice and warm. I will definitely be back to try this place and different options again. Especially the sushi. I only hate that it's about 1.5hrs from where I live and I'm not able to eat as much as I'd like! I'm not sure how this place got such low reviews, but I will say I have never actually been to the restaurant. I have only ordered through DoorDash twice when visiting the area. That said, the food is so yummy. We ordered Cho Cho chicken, pork lo mein, broccoli beef, sautéed green beans, wonton soup and butterfly shrimp. Cho Cho chicken is very tasty, moist marinated pieces of chicken on skewers. The pork lo mein had very big pieces of tender pork in it. The broccoli beef was just broccoli, beef and pieces of carrot. Nothing else as a filler, just the good stuff. The butterfly shrimp, were not butterflyed at all. They were just medium sized shrimp deep-fried. They were very good though, didn't have that greasy taste at all and I would definitely order them again. I didn't try the wonton soup but the person that ordered it said it was very good. But, those green beans... I would go back just for the green beans. I don't know what they did to them, but there were people in our group that do not eat vegetables and these were gone in minutes. I noticed a lot of the negative reviews had to do with the restaurant itself or staff. Maybe the secret is to order takeout or through a delivery service. This restaurant is not new anymore, and I think they no longer go by New Hupei. The sign outside simply states Hupei. We have gone here for years (like over 10). During Covid, their selection was small and one of the servers would have to get your food for you. Now, life is back to normal. Many people come in, and that guarantees that the food sitting out is always fresh. This is a family-owned business. If you go there, you will see many of the same servers year after year. No, they do not speak great English, but they know enough to serve you. I try to leave a little cash on the table for a tip every time I go. Me and my daughter were craving Chinese and decided to try this place we went in and were seated. We came in with about a hour and a half before closing. The place had alot of people there but half the buffet had old food on it which made out for a horrible first impression. So we chose foods that looked fresh everything we picked was either greasy or undercooked. I love this place it's one of my favorite places for Chinese food locally around here.Food is always fresh and hot on the Buffett and the staff is always friendly and treat us like family. And the salt and pepper shrimp is the bomb. And hey it's a Buffett . Yes it is. Food here is solid, and at least for lunch it is worth while coming here in tandem with china king, or for a change of pace. Dinner wise you'll get more from china king as they have more selection due to their buffet venus size. Unfortunately, service has really taken a dive here. After hunpei combined with the now defunct chinese buffet that was sold off to a Sams eatery. The service was fine, but after a year or so the service has lost much of its spirit. The wait staff just dont care as much and are going theough the motions. Food is still good though, and the folks working the kitchen are always on top of keeping things checked and topped up. My favorite dishes are the mushrooms, broccoli and steak, sesame chicken, green beans and the hot/sour soup. I recently ate here for lunch and was not disappointed. Everything was fresh, hot and incredibly delicious. They offer a large variety of items (boiled shrimp, crab rangoon, spring rolls, sushi and other various dishes). Friendly waitstaff, the food is okay at best, and be prepared to request seating, as they will place you in the middle of the crowd with another empty section completely open. All in all, the food is alright. There's a larger selection than other buffets in town, but this is quantity over quality. The waiter basically sits you down, and walks off. First off I try to avoid writing negative reviews, especially on the first try but here I go. My Mom and I were driving through Longview and by late afternoon we were very hungry as we had not had an opportunity to eat all day and New Hupei was on our route. As a vegan, I suspected that they would have something to eat and I was not picky in the least, just wanted to get some food. My Mom grabbed a plate from the buffet while I took a look at the menu. It was not busy, only a few guests but I had to go find and interrupt an employee from eating her lunch so I could order. She was nice but don't think it is polite to take my order while chewing food. Since they did not have any tofu or vegetarian marked items, I asked for a basic vegetable fried rice with no egg. When the dish arrived, it was obviously cooked with lots of egg. I tried picking around it and it was impossible. We were on a tight schedule so could not wait for another dish so I paid for our drinks and my Mom's lunch and let them know how disappointed I was and left hungry. I travel often and I can typically find something to eat but in my old hometown, was so disappointed that a simple order was too much to ask for. My Mom said none of the buffet items were labeled and the food was just ok, food seemed stale and the sauces were empty. Excellent! ! I have been coming here for 15 years, Off and on. They had to move because their lease was up and the owner of the first building wouldn't make necessary repairs.
