Before I could a he told me to pull right in the bay. he had the wheel and caliper off in five minutes and found the rock. when I asked how much I owed him, he said on the house! Twice we've been to Hunter Brake & Alignment to pursue repairs the dealership mechanics recommended, only to find out they weren't necessary. The staff is very honest with the services they provide. They are not out to make a quick buck, they will only do what is necessary. Today we stopped in to get an estimate on new brakes that our dealership said were at 5%. The shop was very busy, yet one of the staff came out and did a quick assessment to make sure we weren't in danger. He told us our brakes were over 50% and we were good until at least next spring. He encouraged us to come back earlier if we had problems, but didn't see any reason to do it otherwise. We will certainly continue to use Hunter Break & Alignment, and recommend them to others. read more

I would strongly recommend that you NOT have your car wheel alignments done at Hunter Brake and Alignment. I had to take Rick Holifield (owner of Hunter Brake & Alignment) to small claims court to get reimbursed for an improper alignment on my car. I won the case No: 20Sc08382 in the Circuit Court of the State of Oregon for the County of Lane in Eugene. In his sworn testimony Mr. Holifield stated that he routinely does NOT adjust the CASTER on cars when he does an alignment unless the owner complains that the car pulls to the right or left when they are driving. This amounts to his admitting he routinely does NOT do a proper alignment on many cars coming into his business. This is because performing alignments requires setting the (1) toe in (2) camber and (3) caster within the manufactures specified settings. The caster is the angle of the steering and suspension components as they meet the wheel. Proper caster adjustment would appear to be the most important as far as driver safety since its proper setting causes the car to naturally drive straight ahead. When the caster is not properly set a car will tend to pull to one side or the other. If the settings are off significantly this will be obvious to the driver. If instead the caster is off only a little, the pull of the wheel may not be obvious to the driver and may only pose a problem when they are tired or distracted. In those cases the car may pull to the side and side swipe a car in the adjacent lane, cause a head on collision, or run off the road into a ditch. When I took my car into Hunter Brake & Alignment I asked for an alignment and a print out of my incoming alignment settings. Rick put the car on the rack and took the measurements. He then said my toe in settings were off a little and turned the adjustment tie rod nuts a minimal 1/8 of a turn then locked them in place. I paid him the $70 fee, got my initial settings print out and left. When I got home I looked at the print out and saw that my initial toe in and camber settings were within factory specifications but the caster was off. I had watched Rick perform the alignment and knew he had not adjusted the caster. I decided to take my car to the dealership the next morning for an alignment. I requested a pre and post alignment readings printout. This printout showed that my caster was outside the required limits when I brought the car in. I returned to Mr. Holifield's business and asked him for a refund. He refused and got very angry (others have commented on this: see Cat S and Seth F comments at this yelp website). He told me that a caster adjustment was not a requirement of a wheel alignment. It appears that if he can get away with skipping the caster adjustments he will do so as it makes his job easier and quicker. If you are going to get a car alignment at this establishment you may wish to insist upfront that you be given a printout of the pre and post alignment measurements. If he refuses or becomes angry you may want to go elsewhere. One last bit of advice: ask for a written quote for the alignment cost in advance. I had Some front end work done on my truck and was in need of an alignment . So I took my truck to Hunter's. While doing the alignment, something broke and power steering fluid stared leaking out. The owner Rick, started getting mad and blaming my Machanic. So I asked Rick if he could replace the part that had broke. He said he would only replace it with a new part ,not a refurbished one. He said " let me call around " he dialed a number and the phone rang in his shop. I thought " does this guy think I'm this dumb, that I don't know he dialed his own number." Then he started preaching to me about the President having dementia and that he was a Trump supporter and what a terrible country we live in. I tried to switch gears by talking about my truck again. He then told me that " he was the only show in town" . I googled where to get an alignment and the top 10 places came up and he wasn't on the list. He offered to do a second alignment after I had the part replaced for free, but I chose not to Go back. He charged me $120. When there was a sign behind him that said $100. He said it was because he did something special. I went some where else they did it for $89. I feel like he is going through some sort of crises. So, I bought a car that needed an alignment, cuz the previous owner had gotten new tires on it 10k miles prior, but chose not to get that done. What started as a simple alignment, turned into a nearly $700 ordeal. That wasn't what bothered me the most, though. There were damages done to my car afterwards that they did not take responsibility for, and told me that these were things that were "going to happen anyway". They told me that doing the tie rods on a car like mine was a pain, and they didn't like doing it. If they had told me that this was gonna result into lots of unexpected things adding so much money to my bill, or that they would prefer not to do it, I could've taken my car elsewhere, no problem. They broke one of my brand new window wipers, damaged the fascia surrounding the driver side wiper blade, exposing part of the windshield, and the driver side wiper knuckle/assembly was not properly fixed. BOTTOM LINE: Do not go here unless you are literally going to just get brakes done or an alignment. If anything else needs to be done to your car, take it elsewhere, then bring it back, because these guys don't like to do advanced/extra mechanic work. read more

I chose Hunter from my mobile yelp app for an alignment on my 03 Chevy 4wd truck and was impressed by the price of $65. I was in and out in less than an hour. It would have been closer to a half hour if the owner had not been on the phone with his home internet provider for at least 15 min. while I was waiting to talk with him regarding the history of my truck which is why i give 4 stars instead of 5. I noticed another reviewer mentioned they were not thanked after paying which I understand after being there but not everybody has a super friendly attitude or personality, I would say the owner was more friendly than my neighbor to the south but not as friendly as the one to the north of me. So be it. They did perform task well, and when I asked if he could tell me in degrees how much the alignment was off he gladly explained by 1.6 deg and showed me on his computer. My truck drives straight now. By the way, had a terrible alignment by Schweitzer Automotive, just blocks away one year ago. Hunter fixed what the other shop did wrong. read more

I'm thinking great but after I gave him my keys, he's writing down my name and i said well how much is it? He said $70. I said well maybe i should call around because I know I can get it cheaper and he takes my keys and literally throws them on the counter at me like he's all pissed off. So of course I went off and said wtf??? Why did you just throw my keys at me?? I handed them to you and you should've handed them back instead of throwing them!! Was recommended to do my alignment here by America's Tires. They did my front alignment in under a half hour, for $55, and test drove it afterwards. I brought my truck back the next week to have my brake pads replaced and brake fluid flushed, since I'd liked their service the first time. They did the work at one of the most reasonable rates in town ($220 for pads and flush). The brake pad cost includes rotor resurfacing. They also repacked my bearings, and adjusted my rear brakes and emergency brake for no additional cost. They told me it'd take around 2 hours, and they were done in 2:10. Overall, fast and efficient work, some of the best prices in town, and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I'll be back! read more

Unfortunately I went here, and got totally ripped off. My truck is over 20 years old, which they seemed to keep pointing out to me. I drive it cause I'm broke! My rear axel was busted. Rick Holifield quoted me at $500... for a used part and $900, for a new. I checked with B&R., the price was similar, if I sourced it. Granted they are hard to come by. However I ended up paying almost $1,000..!!!! I was under the impression that it was a new part that I was paying so much for. I left grateful to have my wheels after two weeks, no ride, waiting for a used part!!... to top it off. Within two weeks of having my truck back, I go to use my 4 wheel drive..? No dice!! They neglected to check to see if my 4 wheel drive worked, after changing the axel. Which is paramount in deciding even which axel to buy, so that it is compatible. When I friend of mine looked under my carriage, to see if he could fix my 4wd he told me it was an old part. When I complained to Hunter/ Rick, he had no remorse, no resolutions, and even raised his voice to interrupt my dissatisfaction. He made sarcastic remarks when I expressed feeling ripped off and left with no four wheel drive. I do not recommend this shop in any shape or form. I am literally thinking about suing for the cost of the repairs I need to fix my 4wd, just to gain minimal satisfaction in any regard, with this horrible business. Really feel taken advantage of, cause im a girl? cause im naive?cause my truck was filthy? cause my trucks a piece of sh''!!! Really,??? I cant say why they chose to swindle me so badly. Most anyone can do an alignment -- just throw it up on the rack and let the computers figure it out. I brought in my vehicle that was pulling to the right. Another alignment place in town had tried unsuccessfully to fix it a few times. Jeff spent more than hour on my vehicle rotating tires, test driving it four times, and fine tuning the specs until he got it just right. It was so nice to drive down the highway to Portland today and not have to compensate for the pull to the right. It's a bit of a drive for me to get to Hunter, but so worth it. read more

Today after trying to be pro-active and get the alignment on a problem car "before" it was wrecking my tires for once....I took it in for my appointment. When I came to pick it up...My bill was $0. Rick & Jeff are truly stand up guys & clearly dedicated to going the extra mile to do right by there customers & performing high quality work at very reasonable rates. In the last year they have installed lift kits in 2 off road vehicles for me & done 4 wheel alignments. Their customer follow up has been excellent & they had me bring one vehicle back in to complete a torque check after a couple of weeks just to make sure everything was was still torqued to spec. No charge, of course! On the most recent install on a new vehicle they had not done previously, they spent 4-5 hours in the install, with both guys helping part of that time. I'd asked them to drill 2 holes in my front bumper to mount a light bar, a small job I was sure. It ended up taking Jeff about 2 hours, I'm sure, during which he'd consumed 4 or more drill bits. And the bill? 2 hours labor & standard $99 dollars for the 4-wheel alignment. And no drill bit surcharge, even when I prodded them to add one! Who in the service industry does this! My car was having trouble. I took it to Rick and he told my dad there was nothing wrong with my battery when he tested it. A week later my car died. Believing it couldn't be the battery I had it towed to the dealership. A lot of money later they told me it was the battery that needed to be replaced. I find it hard to believe that in one week a battery can go from it's good to needs to be replaced. I appreciate that Rick is an honest guy but if his tools and equipment don't work right I don't think I'll be bringing my car there in the future for work. read more

I was recommended to use Hunters by a person in my car club. Other people in the club said to watch out and understand that the owner is not going to win any personality contest. I didn't go there for personality but I do expect respect which I did not get. Rick treated me like i was an idiot. I needed my front end aligned after having some extensive repairs done on the front end. I at first said it might be difficult to get it aligned but after a short while he said he was successful. He did not test drive the car but told me to come back in a couple of days to let him know how it was driving. When i came back he was outside the building talking to someone so I waited till he was done. When he was done he walked right past me without a word and went on about his other work. I waited a few minutes and he came to the office area and asked what I wanted. I said I was returning at his original request and I thought my ElCamino was still having problems. He got on me light a freight train hitting me saying what a piece of junk my pride and joy was. He said if I wanted it checked out I would have to pay $90 an hour with 1 hr min. All I wanted was a simple check to insure that the alignment was ok. I thought that's what he wanted me to come back for. If your problem is a tiny bit out of standard normal he hasn't a clue what to do. read more

I went here in need of a front wheel bearing on a Saturn. Rick charged me $374. He charged me $259 for the bearing! I can buy the best bearing made for less than 1/2 that even at full retail price. He also said he would have to align the front end afterwards, a total lie. The bearing failed before 100 miles. When l went back Rick was on vacation so Jeff dealt with it. He replaced the bearing but it still made a noise. He said the one he took out was definitely hammered. I had brought a bearing with me so he tried mine. Still a noise. He said he didn't know what the noise was and said he would take my bearing back out, after driving on it, and I could return it to the store, and he put his 2nd bearing back in! He should have left my bearing in and refunded my original $259. He said he could swap them in 10 minutes. So why do they charge an hour's labor? Also he didn't even mention an alignment this time. Curious. I've been to many, many auto shops over many years all over the country and I've never felt more ripped off than I was at this one. read more

I was told that this place is the best in town by my mechanic. I was desperately needing an alignment on my 88 suburban so I decided to try this place out. There wasn't a problem with customer service or anything and the alignment was done for the price quoted. The problem came when the alignment was first done (in order to complete an alignment, you need to align it again after the vehicle is driven for a few hundred feet). When it was first done, the worker approached me and told me that he found a hornet in my door jam and did not want to drive it anymore. I'm not calling him a liar because I do know that this is common in older cars. However, prior to that encounter with a hornet in my car, I had never seen one in there before. Even when I went to inspect it, there was no sign of any hornet, not even a dead hornet that he supposedly killed. I had to drive it off the rack and drive it home. To this day I have never spotted a hornet anywhere near the suburban. And the suburban is still out of alignment. read more
