It was hot and humid, like any day in Hong Kong and I just wanted to sit down. At 1pm, we didn't wait long and the server was very courteous to us. It's always tricky to determine how long the wait will be and I appreciated that he kept checking in with us as we stood outside hot and sweaty from our walk; letting us know that as soon as a group pay their bill, we can be seated. Their set lunches range from $40 to $70, which is reasonable. We both ordered their set lunch no. 9 - soy Korean fried chicken wings. Perfectly marinated and served to us quickly. Their drinks are not as desirable though. I ordered their signature ice coffee and it just didn't hit the spot. for a $15 add on, it was less of a bespoke, unique Korean coffee and more of a Nestle instant with a bit of caramel on top. Their signature dishes? Cheese Egg Roll and Oppa Riceball. This foodie will definitely be returning for more chicken, more cheese, more rice and that chilled and friendly service! OPPA!

The service is fast and simple. Menu is very simple as well. Food, even for the spicy kind, is not too spicy. The lunch box included lot of varieties, such as fruits, pickled vegetables, purple rice, and meat of choices. And it comes with tea. Only problem is that when you really want to eat Korean food, you might want to visit somewhere else for a complete authentic Korean food experience. This place is kind of like a fast food place. Overall, it is very healthy choice, considered to be least spicy and least salty than most Korean restaurant offers. And service is fast.

It's a surprisingly large and open wooden space, which is refreshing after bumping knees and getting breathed on by strangers all day, every day. Your first step inside is greeted with TV screens playing Kpop and the smell of sizzle and sauce; it's a Korean fried haven. Goobne specializes in, you guessed it, Korean fried chicken, but with a heavy infusion of Western bar food. They've got salads, pastas, Asian style rice rolls, and a variety of fancy margaritas (one with a shark). Mostly though, you're here for the chicken. On my initial visit, my friend and I shared: Appletiser: Some foreign apple sparkly with a punny name. It's what you expect. Fizzy apple juice in a bottle. Overpriced because of its foreignness and because it's in a bottle. Caesar Salad: This is not a Caesar salad. Caesar sauce (in a cup on the side, no less) with some veggies, croutons, and parmesan does not a Caesar make. Who adds frisee to a Caesar? Or red cabbage? OR TOMATOES AND CUCUMBERS? It's fine for a salad. Just know that you are not ordering a Caesar when you order this Caesar. Rice Crunch Chicken Boneless: Yes, this is where it's at! A well-portioned amount of crispy boneless chicken covered in sweet and spicy sauce, carried out in a cast iron pan. To make it better, tiny rice bits cover the chicken for extra crunch. To make it EVEN better, pieces of sauce-soaked Korean rice cakes are mixed in. SO. GOOD. Strawberry Milk Snow: I don't know what I was expecting for this. Something more like shaved ice? Nope. Milk snow is exactly what it is: creamy crystals that melted on impact. It was incredibly unique and the right amount of sweet with the ice cream and strawberries mixed in. 10/10, will choke on ice particles again. Goobne Chicken is goodne chicken. There, I said it. Though my puns are bad, Goobne isn't. And with this being one of several locations in HK, you can always get your fried chicken on. Whether you're in the mood to hang out, or to grab a sharkarita, or just to get some good grub, Goobne is one great choice in the city with way too many food choices. (52/100) - 100

We ordered 4 dishes: - Tuna Poke Bowl: least favorite of the dishes, too much rice and not very flavorful. - Beef Short Rib Skewers: sublimeeee the beef was so tender and tasty! Would order again! - Kimchi Carbonara Udon: I was most concerned about this dish, but also excited to try, considering the fusion-ness of kimchi, carbonara style with bacon and egg, and udon. It was quite good but not "wow!" - Cheesy Fried Chicken: fried chicken was perfect! What I didn't like was how it was doused in salsa and red sauce, the cheese was not so cheesy and stuck to the bottom. I thought it would be on the side for us to continually dip throughout the meal. Would order the regular boneless fried chicken next time. Good selection of local beers on tap! We were seated at the back so it was a little difficult to get service but overall quite pleased with the quality of food.

The lunch menu has evolved since it first opened and now is a much tighter and more wallet friendly. The lunch set comes with salad or soup, a main and tea or coffee. You can add dessert for 25 hkd. The price ranges from 100-150 hkd per set. There is a service charge here so that will add an additional 10%. The mains are divided into three categories: salads, sandwiches/burgers, rice bowls. I opted for the fried chicken rice bowl. I have had the stone pot rice bowls in the past and those are quite good. Better than Food box and Myeung Ga which are your other choices in this area. The fried chicken here is recommended. The batter is nice and crispy and the meat is juicy and tender. They use a go-chu-jang glaze for the chicken which gives a nice sweet and spicy kick to the chicken. The fried egg had a nice orange yolk and paired surprisingly well with the rice. I will definitely come back again and put this into my rotation of lunch restaurants.

Living in Asia it's difficult to not try the cuisines of your continent so I've tried Korean here and there but have never been totally impressed. Next door First Korean had recently opened and was offering a very affordable lunch set and knowing that anywhere else on Disco-Bay I had to shell out over $100 for lunch. I ignored the voice in the back of my head warning me against trying Korean again. I can't tell you how many times I've been back for the same $65 Stone Pot Rice dish, enough for the waiters to know my order before I sit down. When I'm not sure what to eat - Stone Pot Rice, too lazy to cook - Stone Pot Rice, Hmmm should I try something else? No - Stone Pot Rice. That's a lie. I've tried a couple other dishes and they weren't bad; Sweet and sour chicken with rice, and sizzling beef and enoki mushrooms with rice. The chicken dish would be great save for the bones in each and every little morsel making it more of a mission than an enjoying experience. The sizzling beef is good, no complaints on this dish. But when compared to the Stone Pot Rice, it's crispy rice and tradition Korean sauce there's simply no question. Even listening to the same ten songs on repeat for the past three months hasn't stopped me from returning - in fact I think it's helping me learn to speak Korean.
