This is a great chinese take out place. I've ordered delivery a few times now and I've never had an issue with their food as it's always fresh and tasty. I order food from this place every once in a while. Today we decided to order Thai food. One of the worst decisions I've made when it comes to food. The food was horrible. I took a few bites but decided not to eat it when I saw that some of the chicken looked uncooked. My girlfriend continued to eat and now feels sick to her stomach. I have going to this place for years for my takeout. The last 3 times the food was horrible. I ordered the pan fried dumplings many times. They must have changed them bc they were much smaller and looked like they were store bought not home made like they were for years. The boneless spare ribs were all fat not much meat. Been ordering food from here for many years. Today I found metal pieces in my steamed dumpling. I called the restaurant and got passed around to 3 different people. The last one thought it was funny that this happened. They promised to refund the money for the food that we ordered and even called me back to say they did it. Well the next morning they took the credit and then made it a charge. Now 2 charge to my card for food that had metal in it. Their food is everything you would want from a take out Chinese food place and is the ultimate cure for bad hangovers and the flu (I know from experience). Having been a regular on return visits home, I have not been to Hunan Wok in over a year. Although it is a "hole in the wall" storefront without dining in, Hunan Wok was always consistently good and clean. On Saturday evening during the COVID-19 crisis we opted for Asian food and decided to order take out from our old favorite. While calling in my order I got bad vibes from the horrible demeanor from the owner, she seemed like I bothered her and, at the end of the very brief call she closed with "$27 15 minutes" no THANK YOU. When I walked in to pick-up I almost walked out in shock after walking into the strangest and frighteningly unsafe environment one can imagine. I actually felt like I was in the most unimaginable ghetto restaurant in an urban crime-ridden city. Hunan took the physical COVID-19 barrier to the most rudimentary form possible. The once welcoming countered was covered in filthy plastic that prevents you from seeing the kitchen which is now very dark. To pay and get your food they haphazardly installed an unpainted wood box that can only be opened one side at a time. To cover what was once a swinging gate to allow staff behind the counter, they "hung" and Odd shaped filthy piece of wood that seemed to once had been a bathroom door. With all of that crap in place, NOT ONE WORKER WAS WEARING A MASK OR GLOVES. I cannot believe the Township of Cranford permitted this business to open under such poor conditions. Got a boneless honey rib with fried rice and soup from their lunch menu. When I got it home and tried to eat it the meat was shredded, dry and tough as leather with a lot of fat...nothing like the rolled rib item pictured on their wall. Also, the "pork fried rice" was yellow rice with veggies I tried to return the dish for a substitute or refunded on my credit card, but got no satisfaction. I was told that just because I didn't like the dish, someone else would. It wasn't that I didn't like it , it was such poor quality I couldn't eat it and left it at the store. For the sake of comparison I figured I'd get some standard dishes: General Tsos and Chicken w/ Garlic Sauce. My husband and I actually prefer this location for Chinese/Thai food to others in Cranford. They are quick, get the order right, and it tastes great! Love their shrimp egg rolls, drunken noodle (from the Thai menu) and also the beef curry from the Thai menu.
