This is a good Chinese restaurant right near the Cranford train station. The food is pretty good but the only issue is parking. If it's after 6 PM, I use the train station parking lot which is behind the restaurant. The sautéed string beans are very good. read more

The food is really great! I haven't ever had something I don't like, but some favorites are: crab rangoons, wonton soup, general tsos. I also love the people & service. 1 Walnut has become my default Chinese takeout place in Cranford, even though I pass two other Chinese places to get there. In general, whether you eat there or take out, it's a very pleasant experience. I've always found the food to be fresh and flavorful, especially the very tender Four Seasons dish. My boyfriend enjoys it so much that he refuses to order it anywhere else, saying that other restaurants don't compare. Though Chinese takeout joints are usually utilitarian-looking at best, 1 Walnut has a very pleasant, clean decor. The counter staff is always friendly and enjoys making small talk, and unlike many of their competitors, they're very generous with condiments and fortune cookies. read more

Used my credit card to pay for takeout on Friday, 6/4/21. First of all, food was pedestrian. My Shrimp Lo Mein was overcooked and my Hot & Sour Soup was only mildly spicy. The biggest problem I had, however, was the bill. Later, when looking at the CC receipt in detail I was charged a non-cash adjustment of $2.20, which is over 4% of the food cost. This is bad business. Vendors offer credit card services to their customers for convenience, and I know they pay a fee for this offering. It borders on being unethical to pass this fee on to their customers without advising them. What they should do is offer a cash discount upfront for customers paying in cash. Never again. There are other Chinese Restaurants. read more

Chinese food take-out restaurant One Walnut sits on the edge of downtown Cranford, so if you're picking up, parking won't be quite as difficult as it is in the busier areas of the township. But I, for one, appreciate One Walnut for its delivery, which has yet to have me checking the clock, let alone calling to find out what happened to the order. We live two miles from them and I don't think it's ever taken more than 30 minutes for the driver to show up. Another downtown Cranford Chinese restaurant took more than an hour to deliver our food, which by then was cold; I have not strayed from One Walnut since! One Walnut's food proves average to excellent, so while they're getting it ready in a reasonable amount of time, they aren't cutting corners on quality. I stick with winners, and I'm sticking with One Walnut. read more

This is our go to place for take out. I usually pick up on the way home. There are a couple of tables inside, but I've never stayed.

This establishment has the fastest delivery and highest quality chinese food of their contemporaries. Where as other restaurants in the area (Hunan Wok) has almost exact same menu items and prices, the quality of walnut can be summed up as such. Walnut uses genuine pork fried rice, while Hunan uses disgusting "yellow rice" purported to be fried rice. Give this place a chance and you wont be disappointed. I read the other two reviews for this place and I have a genuine response for each of you guys : Patrick - I agree that their general Tso's chicken is tasty, but I am not quite sure how you can tell the difference of fried heavily sauced chicken or fried heavily sauced turkey. I have eaten the Tso's chicken from this joint at least 20 times and the type of the meat has been consistent throughout. If you like the "traditional" take our heavy brown sauce, overly gummy food, then don't come here. This is not a one brown sauce fits all place. It's not authentic, but it's better than most take outs. The sauces are lighter, the selections and taste closer to authentic than "Americanized" food. Is it great? No, but it's better than most. The orange chicken is very good, the beef and broccoli is not so heavy with sauce. Have tried the roasted pork a few times and it's delicious. Cheap greasy Chinese that is on par with mall food court Chinese. Can for sure eat here for cheap, but not worth the stomach ache that follows. Get takeout from this place once a week and it's very good. If you're looking to get buried in sugar or salt, this isn't the place. If, on the other hand, you enjoy tasting the ACTUAL food, you can't go wrong here. Always friendly and willing to modify selections (less oil, less sauce, etc.). read more
