My first visit to this Thai restaurant under the new ownership, which has been years already. Got shrimp pad thai, chicken pad see ew, Thai fried rice, and shrimp prak kow (total $67). I asked for "medium spice" on the prak kow, but the lady said it only comes one way, extra spicy. It was good, but more like mild spice than what I would even call medium. Everything could have used more flavoring/seasoning and/or chili. The pad thai was particularly bland. Both were good, standard thai dishes. I appreciate they didn't put bell peppers liKe I asked...some people have an issue with modifications. Been living in the area for 20+ years and have visited this restaurant several times. I usually do not give reviews especially bad ones but today's visit was absolutely horrendous. Upon entering the restaurant, we were led to our table at which the staff threw the menu on the table. He was steps away from the table when he threw them without a single word. We seated ourselves and politely ordered what we wanted. The entire time he kept slamming plates and glasses down on the end of the table which was away from where we were actually seated. We had to reach across every time to retrieve our dishes and drinks. This didn't just happen to our table but to the entire section he serviced. The other customers around us were also very upset. I almost left the restaurant but my companion had more tolerance. The food itself was also horrible - the flavor was either way too salty or too sweet. It was as though the dishes weren't cooked by someone familiar with the taste and flavors for each of the Thai dishes. If you want Thai food in this area then please look elsewhere as there are so many better options to select from. read more

Came here all the time growing up and stopped by for takeout after raving reviews from family. But was disappointed. Seemed like the other people picking up were delivery drivers so there must be an option for that. I'd recommend going for delivery since it was confusing placing the takeout order over the phone: I ordered a Tom Yum soup and asked for a side of hot sauce that both got missed. We got disconnected when I initially ordered so I had to call back to get an estimate of when to pick up the order. Massaman Curry - 2/5. Got it mild, which I think was a mistake, but still felt the flavor was weak. There were large chunks of vegetables that didn't add much and the sauce itself had the characteristic nutty notes but just didn't have any pop. Curry Puffs - 2/5. Generally love this dish but the puff was overly crumbly rather than crisp and the inside was an overly pureed texture. The flavor itself was again characteristic but not great. Spring Rolls - 3/5. This is my first try at this location. The noodles tasted old/maybe sautéed in old oil. The flavor was basic. I prefer a more flavorful Thai dish. The shrimp in both the Pad Thai and the pad se ew were good size compared to other restaurants. I think if they had sent Some lime it would have helped a bit with the flavor. This place is always so lively with its festive decorations. My cousin and I love coming here every now and then catch up over lunch or dinner. Highly recommend this place for vegetarians as they can customize based on preferences. The food is always served pretty quick as well, within 10-15 mins. Forgot to take pictures sadly but went to this Thai restaurant after a while. It's pretty decent. We got the pad Thai noodles, pad kee mao, green curry, red curry, and hot spicy Basil dish. Few comments. The noodles were 3.5/5 - noodles texture and flavor was on point but not the best I've ever had but definitely not the worst. I would say their food is more authentic tasting than not which is really important for Thai food. Red curry better than green curry. Green curry was lacking a bit of flavor. Also did not feel like the spicy Basil dish and deep flavor. If you like spicy get the "hot" version. It's still not that hot compared to other Thai restaurants. Overall even though 3/5 stars I would go again because it is one of the better Thai restaurants in the area! read more

We used to dine here years ago and returned today. We had heard that it was sold some years ago which is why we stopped coming. Finally decided to give it a try. Deep down inside me is a reservoir of affection for Americana. Whether it is a certain style of brick and wood decor or diners covered in silver panels, I love style that calls back to an idealized version of America from the past. Whenever I see a diner as described above, it always catches my eye. However, when I first saw this restaurant many months ago it was not a diner, but rather a Thai Restaurant that had taken up residence *in* an old diner. That alone was enough to warrant my curiosity. Months later I finally got to visit and it was just as I expected. When you walk in, the smell is very similar to many Thai restaurants I have been to in Manhattan. There are also pieces of Thai artwork spread throughout the restaurant, so you even if the smell didn't tip you off, the decor will tell you that you are in a place where Pad Thai, not burgers rule. My girlfriend and I were seated quickly but I have to say, on a Saturday night this place is *busy*. As we ate, we watched some tables empty out and immediately get filled again. This went on for a half hour (if not longer) and I was very impressed. Some of the folks coming in appeared to be regulars as the staff knew them on sight. These are always good signs in my book. Our waitress was at our table very quickly, and we did not have to wait for water very long. Eventually we ordered, but during the process we were asked about the level of spiciness we wanted. The waitress seemed to advise us against "spicy" and instead recommended "medium" at the hottest. I followed her advice. Here's the rundown: FISH CAKE Fried mince fish mixed with curry, string beans, and lime leaves served with ground peanut and cucumber sauce There is a dish similar to this at some Chinese restaurants, so I was very curious how different this would be. I was happy to find it was very different. The curry in particular gave the fish cakes a spicy flavor that was unexpected and delightful. They also had a nice, meaty chew to them which was great. The dipping sauce provided some sweet and savory flavor that balanced out the spice level nicely. MASSAMAN CURRY Curry with coconut milk, potatoes, onions, carrots, peas, avocado, bell peppers, and pineapples I had never heard of Massaman Curry before, but my understanding is that it is a fairly standard curry dish in Thai restaurants so I wanted to give it a try. This version looked a lot like a red curry, however I found the flavor very plain. It did not have any of the richness or spice of a red curry. It was cooked well, but I think this flavor profile simply is not to my liking. CLAY POT NOODLES I could not find this dish on the menu so I will do my best to describe it. This was a noodle dish, using rice noodles with shrimp and various vegetables including celery and baby corn. The dish comes in a clay pot. This was perhaps my favorite dish of the night. Everything in this dish had a savory and slightly smokey flavor. The shrimp were not overcooked at all and even the vegetables were very flavorful. I would definitely get this again. We did not wait long for our check to come and our table was cleaned up very quickly to prepare for the next customers who were already waiting. I really enjoyed my visit to this unique spot and I look forward to coming back to try some of the other items on the rather extensive menu! read more

We have driven past this place for years. Heard that the food was delicious and spicy. Very spicy. We stopped in the other night, not knowing that the glory days of this place ended with the management change that took place last year. Curry puffs seemed to be of the frozen variety. Tasty, though, with an adequate dipping sauce. My wife ordered steamed chicken dumplings. These were good, too. My red curry duck was good. The sauce was better than the duck which was tough and low on flavor. My wife's green curry was very nice. Nothing extraordinary and both dishes ordered medium spicy were mild at best. Green tea was incredibly bland. A note on service. Slow down, man. Several times, the folks tried to clear my plate while my fork was still in the air. I appreciate attentive service but this was just over the top. The folks next to us were asked if they wanted dessert while they were in the middle of their entrees. Surviving day 3 of training I figured I deserved a nice dinner. But I still not keen to drive myself. So I managed to get the other trainee and my trainer to go out to dinner with me. A very good decision. We ate a good food and it was good companion. We all left happy and full. My colleague all ordered apps and shared. They ordered curry puff which very interesting and actually good, yes I kind of skeptical. They also ordered fried shrimp which I didn't try because I have mild allergy to it. And the last one egg rolls. The egg rolls quite good, nice and crispy. For entree's we ordered crispy fish, panang curry, shrimp fried rice and for myself I ordered duck. Ordered dinner for pick up on a Friday night. I ordered vegetable spring rolls and fried tofu. They were both generously portioned and very fresh. The only thing I didn't like was the sauce that came with the tofu. The tofu was very dry and tasteless without any sauce. We ordered pad Thai, pad kee Mao, fried rice, and curry puffs. The curry puffs and fried rice were delicious and something I'd go back for. I've had pad kee Mao at other places so I do have my favorite spots for this but still like trying it at other Thai restaurants. Being one of my all time favorite restaurants, it was a great disappointment when Thailand Restaurant closed it's doors. While still searching for a halfway decent Thai spot, I was ecstatic to hear of its reopening (even with new ownership). My girlfriend and I returned around 6 pm Sunday expecting there to be growing pains at the new establishment. Others didn't demonstrate the same patience as we noticed 4 different tables walk out due to long wait times on orders. My girlfriend ordered the spring roll appetizer and pad Thai with pork and I ordered the hot basil entree with beef. The spring rolls came out in about 15 minutes and the entrees came out after about 30. My girlfriend said the pad Thai was excellent and I felt the same about the hot basil dish with beef. I will definitely return. The only bummer is my favorite dish from the old restaurant is no longer on the menu in the "pad ped ma kam" but I am looking forward to exploring this new menu. read more

So Thailand restaurant, Thai Diner, has now reopened with new ownership and what seems to be new cooks as well. They redid the inside a bit and changed up the menu. Weave course had to go back opening week to try it out. We were a bit disappointed though. We got our usual dishes the ingredients seemed a little different in my husband's dish had a little bit of a burnt taste to it, not sure if it was over use of the pan and the residue getting into the dish. It was still good, but it's not the same. we'll give it another shot but not sure I eat in the restaurant again, it took so long to get served. Again, I think they are working overtime with call in orders and people waiting. I think I'd rather call and pick it up next time. Oh, they also ditched the salad before your meal which always helped to break up the wait time. Bring back the salad! At least we still have a good Thai restaurant in town. read more
