    Shrimp fried rice, sooooooo good!
    Lorie N.

Everytime I have eaten here the food is excellent, always comes out of the kitchen hot and fast, this is the best chinese food I have ever had. The place is kind of out of the way, so it is not always busy, you can get a seat anytime they are open, with no wait. The atmosphere is very welcoming and also very clean. I noticed they do have delivery for the Excelsior Springs, MO area and the delivery driver is out the door as soon as she comes in. The only problem I have is the waitstaff. There are is one waitress who is always rude. I could see if a person is having a bad day, but she is always this way, plus she smells like a walking cigarette. Went there yesterday, and thank goodness she was leaving. The other waitresses are very nice. Love their fried rice!

Orange Chicken, Fried Rice, Egg Roll, Crab Ran Goon,

Personally I love Chinese food therefore going to any Chinese place I expect good food however with Hunans that was not the result. My friend Sammy and I are currently working on a project for our marketing class in which we had to make a scorecard and go into a business to grade them on their service. We went in there on August 31, which was a Monday, as soon as they opened. It was around 11:05 when we went in and at first it seemed great. There was no one there therefore we knew that we should get our food in a reasonable amount of time. The lady working the front desk was very nice and got us seated quickly. After she got us to our table she handed us the menu in which I expected there to be a lot more of, however there was one side and it did not have much to it. She asked what we wanted to drink however there were no drinks on the menu you almost had to guess what they had to drink. I asked for Sprite and Sammy asked for water in which she brought to us almost immediately. While we were looking at the menu she stood at the table waiting for us to decide which I thought was a little odd. She eventually left and we continued to look through. There were no options for desserts or sides. All meals come with the same sides of fried rice, crab ran goon, an egg-roll, and a choice of soup. While we were ordering it was very difficult to talk with her she spoke extremely quietly and did not know how to answer our questions which was frustrating. She brought out the soup within a couple of minutes which I personally was not fond of and shortly after that she brought out our food. I ordered orange chicken which had came with the fried rice, an egg roll, and crab ran goon. The rice was extremely bland and the egg roll was super crunchy and had a ton of cabbage in it. While we were eating she continuously walked by us watching us eat as if she was irritated at how long we were taking. We finished eating and then took an overall look at this place. The inside was very clean but then I thought to go check out the bathroom. I walked inside and the first thing I smelled was bleach. They kept their cleaning supplies in the bathroom although it was not clean. The bathroom was covered in rust and mildew. The tile on the floor was all broken up as well. I went back to the table and went online to do some research. A majority of their meals cost around $8. Our total came out to be $20 in which I didn't think was too bad. They do not have social media but they have a website where you can see what they have which I can see why this is what they are known for; delivery and speed. They get you your food very fast. Price wasn't too bad very average however at night according to other people who have gone it gets very pricey with most of the same food. All together it wasn't terrible but I personally would not go there again.

All around great Chinese food, you can't complain really about any of the items offered, booze pairs with the food nicely of course.

El Maguey Review -- First Visit Back…read more Well... I finally went back to El Maguey for the first time since the Garcia family was let go. I'll give the company credit: they definitely accomplished their goal of "going in a different direction." They went so far in a different direction that I'm not sure the restaurant knows where it is anymore. The entire place has basically been re-staffed, and unfortunately, you can feel it. When the Garcia family was there, El Maguey felt like part of the community. They knew their customers. They walked around, talked to people, helped people, and actually seemed to care about the people sitting at those tables. You weren't just another customer ordering a combination plate. This time, it felt more like I was visiting a restaurant that had been rebooted with the factory settings. And here's probably the biggest sign that something isn't right: this was a Friday night, and the place was dead. Not "a little slow." Dead. For a Friday night, that's pretty telling. The staff was friendly enough, and our waitress did okay, but the food just wasn't what I remembered. The portions were definitely bigger, though. And I have a feeling that's temporary. When you're trying to win customers back, apparently the strategy is, "Give them enough food to require a wheelbarrow." Enjoy those portions while they last, because once business gets back where they want it, I'm guessing those plates will start shrinking faster than the customer base did. Even the little things were different. The water fountain out front was empty, and all the change had been removed. I know that's a tiny detail, but somehow it summed up the entire experience. The old El Maguey had personality. This one has employees. There's a difference. I don't blame the new staff for any of this. They didn't create the situation. But as a customer, I can only judge what I experienced, and my experience was pretty underwhelming. I hate seeing what happened to a place that used to feel like part of the community. But nostalgia doesn't make the food taste better, and memories don't make a restaurant worth going back to. So, will I go back? Probably not. Unless I'm with a group that wants to go there, I'll spend my money somewhere else and give another Mexican restaurant a chance. Maybe things will turn around. I honestly hope they do. But right now, El Maguey feels like somebody took a restaurant that people loved, removed everything that made it special, and then wondered why everybody stopped showing up. Good luck. You're going to need it.

Bland food with no seasoning. It tastes like they put barely cooked flour in the ground beef to thicken it up.

It's a small little diner but we got lucky as two people were leaving as we walked in - got 2 seats at the counter. It was awesome that they had a breakfast special, two eggs, bacon and two biscuits & gravy. It was so good and the bacon was crispy and very good. We also ordered the lunch special-double cheeseburger & fries. Got pickles and diced onions on the burger. We've been on a tour of top 10 burger places in KS-this burger would be our #1 or #2 if it were KS. It was outstanding. Everyone in the place were super nice and the counter staff made it a fun time for everyone. Great place, great staff and excellent food.

Seating is incredibly limited; like 4-5 booths, a couple tables and 8-10 or so stools at the bar. Unfortunately, walking in right at 11AM on Saturday, I was met with the greeting that "Breakfast is over, the only other place that'll have breakfast is Waffle House on the other side of town" (while the last breakfast order of eggs and bacon were being cooked right in front of me). *My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined* Alas, being the good sport that I am, I rolled the dice on some chicken strips and fries along with a grilled cheese sandwich. The grilled cheese was actually good, but the chicken strips and crinkle cut fries were the standard frozen to fryer items and not really worth eating. On one hand, it's curious why they can't just do breakfast all day (or until they run out). But on the other, there was a significant number of people ready for burgers (which did look good) ready to order once breakfast switched to lunch. Maybe just chalk this up to a weird timing deal, but if you miss out on breakfast, you're kinda hosed unless you're down for a burger. If I'm ever back, I'll try to make it for breakfast since that's really what looks great here.
